Best pub in Chelmsford, the staff are very friendly and the food is good.

Came here for food one evening recently. There was a large group of us and they handled us brilliantly. Coming in here feels like stepping back 20 years but that’s a good thing, it’s different to most places but I was most impressed by the menu. There was too much to chose from which is a good problem to have, slight bit of nostalgia with some of the dishes too. The food was brilliant and the portion sizes generous. The staff always had smiles on their faces and they were really friendly and attentive. Our waitress was excellent and had a great sense of humour. There is plenty of parking out the front of the building. Will come back again.

Our waiter, Zak, was excellent & front of house member of staff, Kane was very friendly. Both had a great sense of humour. A good time was had by all!

Recommend this hotel. All staff we encountered were very friendly, without exception. Husband chose cooked breakfast, but mushrooms had run out. Chef offered to bring some over to our table once cooked - exemplary service. Suggest your motto might be "going the extra mile is standard for us".

Lovely food and drinks as usual, however they didn’t send my cinnamon bun, they sent a different item instead. Not sure if they accidentally put the wrong thing in or if they had run out of cinnamon buns (if this was the case it would have been nice to have been told this and allowed to choose my own alternative as opposed to them just putting in whatever they felt like!). But I’ve ordered from this branch several times and never any issues so hopefully just a one off.

Whenever I'm in Chelmsford, I visit Costa for a quick bite and a nice sit in the front garden, in the sun, or under an umbrella in the summer. A big advantage, they tolerate smoking, they have ashtrays ready on the tables.

Booked a table to break up our Christmas shopping trip with lunch and a bottle of wine. Really glad we booked as almost every table was taken. The place was decorated for Christmas and the atmosphere is lovely. The food was delicious, great choice of wine and the waiter was attentive and friendly. We will most definitely return!

This is my fourth visit to the restaurant. As usual all the food was good, minus the black sesame ice cream which was refrozen thanks to the big ice crystals in it. The service left much to be desired. After starters and mains, we ordered hot drinks and desserts. After 10 minutes the hot drinks arrived. 15 minutes later one dessert came. Another 15 minutes later two more desserts arrived, exactly the same type than the first dessert. Keep in mind that the restaurant was close to empty. Sure enough, when we asked for the bill the waitress was there within 30 seconds with the machine. Not impressed.

Large car park, easy access, off beaten track so not busy. Warm, comfortable seating, clean tables. Large selection of drinks, coffees, cakes etc. Quite speedy service. Usual prices, around £10 for 1 cake and two coffees.

Really disappointed in the food here. Menu was very limited and we were surprised by the prices. All options were fried food, with chips. £17 for cod and chips and it came right out of a freezer packet. Something I could have cooked at home for less than £4. Husband had a burger, which was more reasonable at 6.50, but imagine the quality. Bar tender is super friendly, and it's a cute pub, surrounded by a nice walk. Kitchen needs to seriously improve!!

Had a wonderful family afternoon tea last Saturday. Easy to book, staff were quietly efficient, friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and more than enough. Highly recommended in a lovely setting.

A perfect place for lunch when having the Day Spa - food is always excellent as is the service and the staff - always on hand
