Costa Coffee in Chelmsford

Coffee was somewhat disappointing, even for a Costa. Each of our drinks was effectively a milky coffee regardless of what was ordered. Not sure we'd go again.

Coffee, tea, smoothies, cakes, sandwiches/rolls. Clean, well designed and the staff are fantastic!

Great place for a business meeting. Only thing was that my large mocha was huge! Quite embarrassing to have such a large cup (small bucket) in front of me whilst my colleague drank a small flat white! Lovely girls serving, really quick and polite.

Super staff! We went in just before closing time and nothing was too much trouble, excellent service, well done

Nice Costa coffee with efficient staff who do their job well, coffee is good and it's one of the cleaner cafes. It's a very popular place.

Was very disappointed. I waited in line for 25 minutes to order and then 10 more for my hot chocolate and black coffee. Wasn't over busy but service was poor today Won't rush back here

The toast was put in the toaster after a sweet bun was heated and therefore tasted sweet from the icing

As of this day of typing this, never a bad visit. The service is always welcome and cheerful, coffee is on form and the cakes? Well, they're cakes 😋 the staff does the company credit here. I say that as weekly returning customer. Great work gang. 👏

Excellent service, tasty food and the same warm welcome I've received every time no matter what staff are in - new or old. We ordered a bacon bap, a toastie and 2 drinks. The shop was fairly busy but service was quick enough to get everyone moving at a good speed, without missing any details or a polite word or 2! :) Regular customer here and will continue to be.

I went into the Costa with a friend and my father. It was a busy day but the overall customer service was poor. I didn’t feel welcome at all. The barista was being short and blunt with me whilst I was ordering. Then proceeded to get two of the three drinks wrong as we had ordered to go, but the hot drink had been brought out in a mug, which another barista had caught an attitude when corrected on the mistake. Whilst the caramel frappe that had also been ordered alongside was made wrong (it came as just an iced coffee with no caramel whatsoever - it was dead). Not happy at all. Will not be returning.

Ordered through just eat from this costa on a few occasions. There is an item missing from order almost every time and they make no attempt to contact you to let you know your items are unavailable and to ask if you would like anything different. They just write on the receipt that it was out of stock, which then leaves you with no lunch and chasing for a refund. Can’t speak to service in store as haven’t been.

Nice place especially in a hot day. Unfortunately cream in an iced coffee was artificial 🤦.

My daughter 'treated' me to lunch from here to cheer me up. She ordered via Deliveroo App. When our order arrived and we unpacked it we were surprised to find approx half our items missing. 2 of the items were possibly substitutes but no explanation one looked like a toasted sandwich with tomatoes(ordered mac and cheese) I can't eat tomato's as react with my medication. Luckily we managed to make a sandwich from items at home but not what was planned. I tried to ring the store to see if a bag had been left behind but when I rang the number from from Google maps got told phones were not available contact on line. We managed to get lunch sorted out. Not a great first order, not sure if it will be repeated. Last week we ordered from another well known coffee chain who did not have 2 items on our order we had a card for each item apologising for the lack and asking us to call in store for a free drink, this leaves a much more positive feeling about the whole experience than no explanation at all.

Nice little Costa with good seating areas inside and out. Food was fresh and hot but prices were advertised wrongly and we were charges more than the stated price. When we went back inside to use the toilets prices displayed had been changed....

Why go anywhere else for coffee when you can go to a Costa

Shocking place I was just sat in this restaurant for an hour they have 4 members of staff and not once did they clean a table or clear up half the tables had used cups and plates on when the manager is away you can really tell the difference

It seems I have shares in this company as I'm very rarely out of one of their stores. Brilliant as always.

It's Costa, does what it says on the tin. But mcd's and greggs better value for coffee

Lovely hot latte I love going to this costa.

It was lovely and the manager like a super Clean seating area. There were no trays left on tables waiting to be cleaned away. It was refreshing to see someone who really cared about the client experience. Well done!

It was good we got take out and I had the KitKat mocha I recommend

Really like Costa coffee, and this is an easy shop to visit as parking is usually ready available - UPDATE opening times have changed so closing at 6 weekdays, still earlier than pre covid

Lovely staff and the usual treats. Strange though they have locks on toilets now but are happy to give you the number. Lots of notices explaining what you have to do.

Well placed next to clock tower shops, oddly placed at edge of carpark as if it was going to be a drive through but its not. Really nice staff, never been overly busy when I've been and plenty of seating. Handy stop during shopping trip or picking up a takeaway if leaving town.

Trays left laying on 4/5 of the tables... Customers are having to clear them to have a place to sit. What a depressing place to be.

Tables not clean, food on floor under table's. Coffee and food up to Costa standard.

Ambience is lovely, however almost every time we go there all the seats and tables are either occupied or are dirty with old cups and crumbs. It really is hard to get a nice, clean place to sit. The lattes/hot chocolates here are always so creamy and delightful to drink though.

It's a coffee shop so usual standard. We went twice on the same day early morning and late afternoon. Both times the floor needed cleaning and tables were sticky. Chairs were dirty with crumbs and stains. I'm not sure how much the staff are to blame as at most there were 3 and very busy serving.

Expensive for what you get. £4.50 toastie was lovely on top bottom was just soft white bread. Latte wasn't hot enough for sugar to dissolve.

Had a meeting in Costa drinking coffee and having lunch. A week later I received a parking fine from the car park operator as we had stayed over 3 hours. Please be aware…

Clean friendly and fast service at an outlet on the Chelmsford Clocktower retail park. Standard Costa outlet so you know what to expect. Coffee was good, latte milk not over heated or scorched as at some other chains and outlets.

Went one week, had no coffee. Went this week no ice or coconut milk.

Yesterday I order a toasted sandwich and a capiccino , there was a delay with the sandwich and I can only commend thier quick and pleasant response to rectify the mistake and the helpful staff.

My daughter and I went to this Costa and were appalled. My daughter ordered a gingerbread hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Firstly her hot chocolate was cold. Secondly the barista put her marshmallows in a separate cup (when not asked to) and made her put them in herself. It tasted like plain, cold, effluent water. It took over 10 minutes for our drinks to be ready (keep in mind that there were 4 barista’s there). We also ordered a chocolate hot cross bun which we were told had just chocolate chips and no raisins. But of course they were wrong and there were raisins in it. Appealed by the service, quality and hygiene of this Costa.

Coffee good but you should really send demante (apologies for the spelling) on a course to learn even the most basic set of manners. Appreciate it's a Sunday afternoon and I really don't expect much... but shes just plain rude.

So my daughter and I ordered food to take out.. As apparently they were closing 2 hours early received a luke warm half toasted cheese and tomato toasty with matching luke warm tea. Yuk. Visit Costa drive thru on a weekly basis and always good. Won't bother with Clock Tower again

Very poor service, such a long wait

Honestly the dirtiest food and drink place I have been since Covid began. Floors filthy, every table dirty, half the tables with dirty cups and plates on them. This was midday on a Saturday. Was there for over an hour (serving took 20 minutes) and no one wiped down any tables during that time. I have no issues with Costa generally but I would never come back to this one given the approach to hygiene. No idea where the floor manager was. Crazy given the times.

Great coffee like always, however the Batista allowed a complete stranger to touch and hold the lids of our take away coffee!! So couldn't drink our coffees till we poured them into a cup at home, completely defying the point of going out to get a take away coffee!

Popped in here after a quick shop in another store on the retail park. Queue was long but got served quickly and efficiently. Made a mistake with my order but they fixed it for me. Apologies once again.

The visit was ok but the place had no spoons as they where in the dishwasher, and also had to ask for napkins and they added a sandwich to my order.

Went for coffee this morning as per usual on a Saturday noticed how dirty the tables & floor were no excuse as it was 730 this morning

Unfortunately they decided to close already when I arrived at 17:40 despite the sign on the door/website stating 18:00. They had locked the doors and were cleaning up / moping the floor whilst myself and another couple of cars tried to stop for a coffee. Please try to close at your official time or at least only 5 minutes early!!

Shuts at 6 not 7pm as advertised! Idiots!

The Baristas were lovely young people but it took 20 minutes for them to take my order, forget my order, serve about 5 more customers while they pretended that I was invisible and then another 10 minutes to make my drink after enquiring what might be going on. God forbid u order anything more complicated than a flat white. I would honestly walk a further mile to get a drink somewhere else in future. Do not recommend.

My daughter was at Colchester A and E and I needed to kill some time. I prefer McDonalds coffee if I'm honest.

Having a Latte with my hubby which is great, but am sitting here freezing cold because the aircon is on so high.....why are all Costa's so cold??? !!!

Sat outside. Some seats were benches could seat around 6 others were 4 seats, which is pointless because groups of 2-3 sit on the benches. We had a group of 5 and so couldn't sit on the seats without child sitting on a lap. The coffee was alright, but the tables were not cleared, every table had used cups on that (unless those current occupants) had bought more than 1 coffee each, had been there for a while. Nice coffee, but poor views, daft seating and tables are not cleared regularly enough.

You know exactly what you're going to get and a good cup of coffee is sometimes all you need

Service far too slow. 10 minutes stood in the queue, 5 more minutes to receive 1 Cortado. Looks like they're taking too many orders via Deliveroo and not focussing on actual people in the store. All wrong. Sort it out

Staff friendly but had two on till and 1 on coffee. So u had the till staff pushing trough all with food and payment. But then waiting a long time for the drink to follow . Nothing wrong with staff think manager just needs to support coffee machine more than till person

Safe covid practices (staff appropriately distanced and behind perspex screen, hand sanitizer available at entrance, social distancing markers on floor. Staff always friendly, effecient at making coffee - currently they are only allowed one staff member at coffee machine at a time for social distancing, but the staff are amazingly speedy and coordinated at making several drinks at once all by themselves.

Hot chocolate was very hot which was lovely due to the cold weather. Thank you
