Bottomless steak and chips were lovely. I really recommend the quality of service and food. Also big thank you to Hennett, she cared well us and her hospitality was top notch!

Seems to have gone downhill a bit since I was last there. - Food overcooked - "Optional" service charge added to bill without asking - Had to be prompted to bring out drinks that had been forgotten Ok for a meal but could have been much better.

It's been a few years since I last are here, and the fact that they have weathered the storm of the pandemic, indicates the food quality, service and price are all off a high enough standard to retain customers. I went on a Friday night, and you'll be best served if you book in advance as in addition to the standard menu, off some lovely choices, they offer a 90 minute unlimited steak and chips experience. Well I had to try this. Our server for the evening was attentive from the off, even though one of our party was running a little late. A nice selection of drinks were available, including an unlimited wine for an additional fee. When our steaks arrived they were well presented and I upgraded to the posh loaded fries. The combination of parmesan, trifle and rosemary was very rich and delightful to eat. The streaks were cooked medium rare, and presented our cut making them very tender to eat. I could but work out what the cut was, but it was delicious from first to last forkful. I then had another 4 round of the steak and each arrived quickly and grilled to the same level of perfection. Suffice to say there was no room for dessert as the food was very filling, on fact I turned down more if the fantastic bit and crunchy fries as it was too much for me. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble and our server really maintained a great balance between attentive and privacy, something that cannot be underestimated in my opinion, I just hope she gets a bonus as a great representative for their brand. In summary a great meal for around £45, in a well decorated and maintained location at the end of the high street. I'll be back, but won't leave it so long next time. Thank you team Middleton's

Middleton's steak was amazing, bursting with flavour that melts on your tongue. Their burgers are a 10/10 too. The desert was okay. Overall me and my partner had a great night.

Wife's bday meal, both had 16oz sirloins and couldn't fault then at all. Cooked the way we wanted too.

We visited yesterday for my friends hen party and did the bottomless brunch. This was my first experience for bottomless brunch and it definitely won’t be my last. Food was very nice and the service we received from Kasia was amazing, we where never left without a drink and she was always on hand to assist. Thanks so much x

Attended for a hen do recently, and we had the bottomless brunch as a group of 12. Staff could not have been more helpful, they were always on hand to get more drinks in - Kasia in particular was extremely helpful. Our food was hot, fresh and good quality. I would recommend and return for sure.

Beautiful food. The steak is always delicious and flavourful and the accompaniments were also lovely today. Kasia was a very attentive and efficient server making the whole process smooth and enjoyable

Food was great and reasonably priced. Lauren was a great, patient and accurate waitress, very helpful. We all had a great time at the restaurant.

The food and the ambience are really good. The staff are really friendly and helpful, especially Maisie. They are really cheerful and welcoming. Definitely will come Back to try more food.

Staff were very welcoming and they looked after us well. We were served by kasia. My kids are 5 & 2 and kids are kids the staff made us feel welcome and interacts with my kids which was nice. Food was nice I had the 8oz rib eye and my mrs a burger and kids the fish fingers. The kids deal for £5 was a bargain! Really good experience would definitely recommend and come back.

About 8 rugby boys rocked up for some steak action. Service was pretty quick and friendly and also accommodating considering most of us were already half cut by the time we arrived. We all ad starters, steak, mixed grill and desert and several bottles of red. Great venue. Good service and the steak was really tasty.

Food was marvellous place was quite but good staff

Never been there before. Went for Mother's day lunch. We were served by Rhea who was very warm and friendly. It was a steady service so you were not rushed between courses.

Great place for change of our usual faves in town. Early dinner Light bite for us before cinema. Maia was our top class server attentive and helpful without being intrusive as we pondered our choices.

Absolutely beautiful, had a great lunch with family. Fits was very tasty and nicer portions. Definitely recommend..

Very nice venue, good food and great service

Okay so the first thing my husband said to me was "now that's service" soon as we sat the waitress bought us a bottle of water and glasses. Honestly that alone tops the board as great customer service we have had in many restaurants in the UK since the pandemic. Our waitresses and host were so friendly, helpful and informative. The food was delicious, the steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. The music was a bit of a let down as it sounded like my 90s NOW CD didn't quite fit the occasion listening to sclub7 on our dinner date. The wine was fabulous and my espresso martini was yummy It was a great meal one of the best we've had in a while which was mainly because there was well trained hospitality staff.

We went for Sunday Lunch. The food is fairly average, only made reasonable by the price. It felt mass-made and wasn't anything amazing. Service was fine, fairly dull atmosphere in general. Has a Toby Carvery vibe to it. The most disappointing thing was the roast beef, you'd expect it to be decent considering it's a steakhouse. However it was tough lumps of meat rather than slices. The nut roast was cold in the middle. 2 Roasts and 1 Orange Juice - £36.

Three of us went for a bottomless Brunch and we were amazed at the great value for money. The cocktails were incredible, those of us who opted for the steak (at an extra charge) thought it was cooked perfectly. We had the privilege of being hosted by Maya who was super attentive and an all round lovely person - thank you for making our experience so great. Will definitely be coming back.

Went here for Christmas meal.lunch.food was very salty.i feel the meal would of been better if we had ordered a steak.wouldn't recommend it for Christmas lunch.at time service was slow

We have had a few christmas’s at the Colchester branch which has always been fab and all the wait staff were lovely unfortunately the food was the biggest let down. Raw/undercooked potatoes hardly any veg, the worst stingiest Christmas lunch we have ever had. Again the staff were lovely however we initially were seated for at least 20 minutes without even waterwe had to wait for quite some time after for any food even though we pre-orderd at nearly £400 for 3 of us the food was a complete let down and we will never dine there again for christmas. such a shame as staff before and during could not of been more accommodating!

We had a Christmas do there which they ruined. The service was appalling despite the place being not very busy on a Tuesday lunchtime. They took an eternity to serve the starters, and my calamari was dried out where it had clearly been kept warm. Mains were okay, but one person was left waiting 15 mins extra for his. The deserts took so long that three quarters of our party of 30 had left by the time they remembered we existed and brought them out. The 'Service' was awful, no sense of leadership, no care or consideration. they were useless. We had to go to the bar to order drinks, and they actually had the gaul to add a service charge when you bought drinks!! Never again!!!

Visited on a quiet weekday (Tuesday) lunchtime. Food fine and perfectly professional attentive service even with someone being sick our waitress was running the show with just one chef very well indeed. Full credit to your team...

Lauren was a great waitress and was very accommodating to our very confusing allergy requests and made sure we were looked after. The food on the other hand was a little disappointing, the Roast dinner was very chewy and gristly- very hard to eat. Although the gravy and sides were nice, everything was quite cold. The starters were nice though.

My first visit since it was a Jamie Oliver restaurant and much preferred it! I had a crispy wings to start and Ribeye steak for mains, both cooked to perfection. The food and service was fantastic.

Wasn’t great. Steak wasn’t cooked correctly and service was slow. Wouldn’t come back again.

Friday night, early evening, not very busy but had to wait ages for food once ordered. When it arrived burgers were dry and only luke warm but chips piping hot, obviously cooked burgers and then had to wait for chips. Complained and cost of burgers reduced by 50%, not the point would have preferred hot tasty food.will not be going there again😖

Good choice on the menu with plenty of fish and meat dishes. Mixed grill was a good size and the meat was cooked perfectly, drinks choices were fairly standard but very nice.

Very disappointing. We had our graduation ceremony and decided to have a meal afterwards. Considering that we don’t know the area decided to sit at this place. It was a bad decision. Table of 10 people and half of the table had only water for an hour and a half. Everyone around us was served but we got nothing. Don’t start me on the attitude of the management. As it was very well noticed that we are foreigners and that impacted the attitude towards our table. We felt unwelcome in this place. And one of the few starters we got nearly broke the tooth of the person. I’ve never seen such bad service and will never come back.

Order was taken quickly. Waitresses were lovely and efficient. Food - Starter was over cooked and very tiny portion. Steak was OK after waiting 50 minutes from eating starter. Would not go back to this restaurant. They obviously need to up their game In the kitchen

Food was great. Had the beef wellington. I think there are probably a few subtle touches they could add to build an even better atmosphere such as plants or something, but overall it was a very enjoyable and tasty evening.

Had set lunch today. It was very good value and food was of a really high standard for a set menu. Had calamari to start and a burger while my wife had mushrooms to start and minute steak for main. I have been to Middleton's as few times and was pleased to see the waitress that had served me in the past. Excellent service, very attentive and and will definitely be back.

Edit:Had to lower the review from a 5 star, to a 3 star. Food was still absolutely lovely but the service was extremely poor, Got seated straight away (Wasn't busy), and got our drinks ordered instantly. Took about 5 mins till we ordered our meals. The food took about 30-40 minutes, even though it wasn't busy (about 5 tables full). After the meal, one waitress half cleared our table. Then went off and started chatting, it took another 25 minutes to get the dessert menu, the gentleman who was also on waiter duty had to clear the rest of our table about 10 minutes after that because the waitress never came back to finish, it then took another 10 minutes to get to order a dessert, by which time we wanted to leave. There was also another table left uncleared 40 minutes before we left, and was still uncleared after we left as well. Was disappointed with the service, as I have been here 4 times now and it was exceptional each time. Would recommend for the food, but expect a wait even on non-busy days. Also was weirdly loud for a 1/3 full restaurant, not a bad thing just felt weird. Maybe the music is too loud, I don't really know. Just the atmosphere felt off Lovely service, very friendly. Portions were good, could have done with a couple extra mushrooms with the steak meals. Went with family, and we had the Prime Surf and Turf, Steak Grill, and the Middletons grill. All with some extra sides (which were very nice). Steaks were cooked exactly how we ordered them, Lobster was delicious, Couldn't fault the food honestly, acouple extra onion rings on the Middletons Grill would have been nice too, but overall a really tasty meal and would highly recommend. Will definitely be coming back for more

We like the ambience and the grade 2 listed decor and style building and furniture's. Even the toilets have character. Music playing while we enjoyed our meals. Plus prices are reasonable.

Not the best experience. Our waitress had an attitude all night, just rude towards us. Food was somewhat okay, except for the baked Camembert. We had to wait a long time to get it and when we did, we didn’t even get a chance to try it and already been asked how it is, we said we are about to try it and she said she’ll wait (very weird, she was just standing behind me) - bread was old and horrible and she just said “oh sorry” and left. We heard other people in her section complaint and it seems she just had an attitude towards everyone. Other staff were amazing and the manager was lovely. If you get served by Zoe, I’d run. (that was the name on the bill) I’d say it’s okay for drinks but overpriced for the quality of food. Expected way more from a £30 steak. It just wasn’t good. It’s a shame as we celebrated my moms birthday.

Don't eat here probably very good for drinks buy wow the food was poor. Poor quality, poorly cooked and poor in taste (new potatoes black and the few white ones were just over cooked and watery tasting, the vegetables were over cooked and tasteless and the mixed grill meat was almost inedible).

First steak experience in a restaurant. Wow...it was nice. Tummy yummy satisfied. It was really a nice and new experience. Affordable cost, nice ambience and excellent customer service. We ordered the Lunch fix menu as it was early afternoon around 12:30. We ordered Calamari, Piri-piri chicken wings, minute steak, with fries and diet coke. Food was great and met the expectations. Highly recommended

Really great place to have steaks. I came here with a group of friends and the staff were really great and all the steaks were perfect.

Went for a Sunday roast. Service was friendly and attentive. Roast was a tad underwhelming. It looked impressive but the gravy was tasteless and the potatoes were not crispy. The lamb was slow cooked, so it was delicious and melted in the mouth but there was not much of it and some of it was quite fatty on my plate. My friends all had better pieces. I prob would go back as it was reasonable and saved me cooking but hopefully next time the potatoes & gravy are better.

We went to Middletons Steakhouse and tried the bottomless prosecco brunch. A good choice of food, with availability to upgrade the steak (which we did!) The prosecco was kept topped up without us asking. Lovely waitress who was attentive and friendly.

Went for Mothers Day, had to wait for wait for 30 minutes to get a drink, food took about an hour. Had to repeatedly ask for sauces. Food was very average. Took another 45 minutes to get the bill. Shocking service. Will never go back there

Perfectly good food, if nothing memorable or exciting. Had a quick 2 course dinner one Saturday evening, steaks and seafood. All food was completely adequate and as described but lacking any love or pizazz to lift it above ordinary. No special seasonings, glazes or finishes. Nothing offensive yet everything by the numbers. Service was adequate. Food was fast and drinks were slow. Atmosphere is fine but quite difficult to hear different servers. It's in the old Barclays bank site and benefitted from the refit Jamie's Italian did to it many years ago. Just nothing here to elevate it when there are so many competing options in Chelmsford Town centre.

Horrible. The waitresses are friendly but not really on the ball. Missing cutlery,had to ask for everything The food is not great at all and expensive for the quality. The sides taste cheap,the baked camambert was liquid on my plate. Disgusting. It was so loud in the restaurant I cldnt hear the conversation at our table.wouldnt recommend at all. Came home and had to cook something to eat.

Loved the steak was soft and juicy the staff were so nice and friendly especially given that I had gotten there late they were not trying to rush me to leave as most place would. Would definitely go there again when I have more time.

This restaurant is amazing, I went here for valentines day. We arrived early and they still sat us straight away. Our server Mate was attentive and charming. The food was so flavourful, my steak was the best I have ever had and cooked exactly how I like it. I will certainly be returning here.

Had high expectations starter was average but fish main was overcooked. Service was quite slow and deep fryer had broke! So doubt i would return.

Service has dropped to a very poor level. Restrictions on when you can use the Blue Light Card Discount now means that I have been unable to use it on my last 3 visits.

I aim to give you a completely unbiased review. So firstly we were in a party of eight so always timings are more difficult to cope with form the kitchen point of view, but notice I never said chefs points of view because there is no chef working here. The environment here is ok, nice comfortable seating and good music and they don't rush you, if anything you will be asking where your food is. The waitress was excellent which is such a shame as she knew the food was poor and tried her best to keep a brave face on. From our table a couple of orders were made for Mac and Cheese. This came up late following a reminder and was watery and putrid also a couple of orders for calamari and this was ultra cheap pre produced rubbish with so much breading and coating with virtually no squid inside as to be virtually tasteless. Its expensive in this place upto £50 for some steaks. So some of our party splashed out and paid for nice steak. It was not good. Incorrectly cooked and served cold. Also the quality was not what you might expect. Having seen the kitchen staff come and go it was not likely we were going to send food back to the kitchen only to have christ knows what done to it.if you dine here it's at you own risk. One of us came down with bad guts and We will never frequent this place again. Avoid this place.
