Most certainly do NOT recommend. My disabled son and I were really hopeful when we saw the outside. We traveled a long way to visit the area. We were told we couldn’t come in without booking and even then could only eat in the garden! I’m hoping they’d have said the same to everyone and it wasn’t because due to my son’s disabilities but it was very strange. A terrible advert for an otherwise lovely area.

This used to be one of my favourite places to go for afternoon tea, but not anymore. Cost - used to be £15 for a standard afternoon tea. Now it has jumped up to £19.50 and the only tea/coffee included is standard breakfast tea/Nescafé coffee. Everything else costs extra on top of the £19.50 so I ended up with tap water as I cannot drink standard tea/coffee. Hygiene issues - server repeatedly wiping her nose on her hand and sniffing whilst serving us. Allergy issues - server told me she didn't know what was gluten free and what wasn't. To the point where I was taken into the kitchen and asked what I could eat! Non-existent theme - I had specifically booked in April because of their Easter-themed afternoon tea they had advertised with Easter cupcakes, Easter fudge etc but ours wasn't themed. There wasn't even a Mini Egg on the plate. Not relaxing - our slot was 3pm-5pm but at 20 to 5 the server came in, turned off the music and walked out the room. Making it clear it was time for us to go. She then cleared the table, including our drinks, so we had no choice but to leave. She then rushed out and jumped in her car as we left. Takeaway food - we asked for ALL of our remaining afternoon tea to be taken away with us. This was given to us in the bottom of paper bags (not boxes) and my sandwich had been thrown in the bin. Inappropriate conversation - the server pointed out two guests who had been "moaning" and told us more information than she should have about a couple who were not happy with their accommodation at Frasers. I emailed Frasers with an incredibly kind email saying I wasn't trying to cause any trouble and just wanted to let them know my bad experience so others didn't encounter the same. I received quite an unprofessional response that did not address all of the issues and even said that my email had upset their server! No concern for the customer. I emailed back again that hygiene issues and allergy issues are very serious and that their response was quite hurtful considering I had been a regular customer for years and was only trying to help. That email was ignored by them and I haven't heard anything since. Safe to say I will never be returning. Anyone with allergies or wanting a relaxing time or concerned about hygiene should steer clear. Obviously their concern is not customer care.

Met a friend here for lunch having pre-booked a table. Told that we were only allowed 90 minutes which was a disappointment, the small table was old and rickety and the chairs were very uncomfortable. Ordered egg and cress sandwich which turned up very runny and minus cress. Sent it back only to be told that they had run out so served it without. Changed it for ham instead. Tea arrived in a paper cup, extremely weak and without a tea bag also with no sugar or spoon. That went back and was replaced. Ordered another tea afterwards which again arrived without sugar or spoon. When I asked for it I was told that they had already put a sugar lump in which was not what I wanted as was too sweet. Must say that I was disappointed as have enjoyed previous visits, this was not up to their usual standard.

Sandwiches had little filling. I asked before ordering what type of ham it was and was told ‘off the bone’. It was pale processed type ham and only one very thin slice. We were not told that we had to order at the counter. Cakes were brought out before sandwiches (worse on a hot day). Everything was served in cardboard packaging and thrown in black sacks after, but as it is all lawn there was no chance of breakages anyway and very environmentally unfriendly. I had pre booked. 1.10 hour after we’d arrived they called me on my mobile to say we hadn’t turned up when we were still sat at the table!

Advertised breakfast on their website was half the size for the same price, egg was over cooked as well as tiny portions of other aspects of the breakfast. Bagel was stale, with salmon mushy. Weirdly breakfast bagel served with crisps and coleslaw at 10:00am. Coffee tasted straight out of a vending machine half measure in takeaway cups. Plenty of people complaining orders taking a long time and broken/soggy seats. Shame as much potential to be worth the travel to visit.

We 3 had to sit outside, which in these Covid times is fair enough. Nobody came to seat us so we had to go and ask for menus. Nobody explained how to order,or what the specials were (turns out despite the menu saying ‘quiche of the day’ there wasn’t one. We placed our order and sat in the cold and waited. And waited. And waited. Another table who arrived after us got served, so we asked where ours was. Just coming they assured us. It wasn’t. Eventually two of our drinks arrived. I’ll just get the other one the girl said. She didn’t. Eventually she came back with the 3rd drink and our sandwiches. They still managed to get our order wrong, but having sat in the freezing cold for the best part of an hour we weren’t going to send it back. The food itself was nice, but 3 sandwiches and drinks for £30 with lousy service and sitting in the cold didn’t feel like good value. I don’t think we’ll bother again

This used to be a super little café and I hope it will be revived to meet the same standards as in the past, but it should not be open until safety measures re Covid19 are in place.

We like to come here for the lovely cake and friendly service but when we came the other day the poor quality sandwich with absolutely no filling in and the thin bread is not justified by the expensive prices. We asked for honey (a kitchen basic) and there was none. The quiche was also expensive for what it was, very thin. The salad was very basic, some rocket and balsamic. Service and staff are always lovely, but the money doesn’t warrant the food or drink quality.

Had a sandwich lunch here with a friend. Good choice, lovely sandwiches, service may have been slow but we weren’t worried. However, very unhappy about toilet facilities. Two separate loos. Both had liquid hand cleaner, the sort you use on dry hands, but no actual soap apart from some manky tablet soap in one loo. One toilet had an electric hand dryer, the other only had a fabric towel. I would NEVER dry my hands on a fabric towel except in my own home or that of family/close friends. So I’d hate to think my food had been prepared by someone who was using these facilities.Do I recommend? No, for reason above. Will I go back? No, ditto. A quaint little tea room located on the same site as the antiques centre. We visited on a quiet day so the venue was clean and tidy and very welcoming . The afternoon tea was pleasant but not necessarily value for money in my opinion. Sandwiches were limited which I suspected but I was discouraged from ordering more at the time of booking so maybe it’s just me being greedy, but the entire party were left slightly dissatisfied. The scones were lovely , but again the sweet treats were not spectacular. The lady , the owner I think, was lovely and I am all for supporting local business so I will return. Would make a nice venue to hire for a hen party or baby shower , but if you want the afternoon tea experience head to the hotels that specialise in this service .

Big windows and a bright and airy feel. Battlesbridge is a lovely little place with riverside walks and a big antiques centre. There is also a little motorcycle museum which has limited opening but very quaint. Battlesbridge is more for adults than children as I think kids may get bored but the tearoom seemed to do children focused treats which were going down great. Recommended, nicer than The Barge pub.

As per most other reviews for this establishment, I was expecting to be able to give it five stars, but unfortunately not. We booked a table for five, in advance, for a set Afternoon Tea and paid a deposit. On arrival we were shown to our table but it was a while before our order for tea or coffee was taken. The tea eventually arrived, but no coffee. This was rectified, but it was over 45 minutes after our arrival before the food arrived, after being prompted by my husband. Four, not five, knives were then brought and, when we paid, four, not five sweets came with the bill. A nice touch, but one sweet each would have been good! I don’t think it unreasonable, if you have booked in advance, to expect the food to have been served promptly, especially as those coming in after us were served first. I can only put this down to lack of staff. We only saw one waitress, who did her best under the circumstances, and a young man who looked to be the chef. The food itself was fine, although perhaps too many sweet things and not enough savoury.

Situated at The Battlesbridge Antiques Centre, it was well patronised when we arrived but it wasn't too long before we were seated. The sandwiches were well filled with very tasty coronation chicken although the discrepancy between doorstep white bread and the granary was noted. (Would have prefered the white to be the same size as the granary). Although the presentation of the food was good the choice of greenery was unpalatable and was left by virtually everyone in the room, doesn't that give a message to the owner? What a waste, I suggest a nicer alternative is sourced. Tea was served in a pot with china cups and saucers which always makes my heart sing and the milkshake was delicious if a little impracticably served, difficult to get it all when the bottom was reached, a sundae spoon needed.

I went with my husband, cousin, son in law and our 3 dogs, we loved everything about the tearoom, inside is cosy and beautifully decorated, the gardens are a delight, the staff are so helpful and friendly and the food is freshly cooked and delicious, they are liscenced so the men enjoyed a beer, my husband is a bit fussy but they were happy to tweak the menu slightly so he could have what he wanted, they were busy and explained there would be a bit of a wait as preparing everything freshly takes a little longer but it was fine, the food, and we all had something different was delicious, they didn’t rush us to leave, I was interested in the antique centre and the very sweet young manageress gave us some interesting information and tips, will definitely be going again when we are in Essex

This place is absolutely adorable. It’s quaint and it’s chintzy but I love it here. We’ve visited before for lunch in the garden and enjoyed ourselves so much that we decided to return for their afternoon tea. We were not disappointed. Food was delicious and varied and more than enough for us. Good selection of cakes and sandwiches all made by hand. Love the mismatched cups and saucers and teapots. Love it!!!! Service excellent. Surroundings gorgeous. Going to bring my Mum and sister next time. Don’t change a thing !!!!!!

This was my second visit to Tea room @ Frasers and it was just as good as the first time. This time it was my birthday and I went with family for brunch. It was a warm day so we sat in the beautiful garden. Our drinks and food was served quickly by a very friendly waitress. Will definitely be back again, next time for some yummy cake!!

We booked six weeks in advance I had been before for afternoon tea and it was very nice. . We booked for 5 afternoon teas and two off the lunch menu. we waited 15 mins before anyone asked us if we would like a drink some ordered tea others cold drinks. we placed our order for lunch to be told 50% of the menu was not available as the delivery had not arrived from makro. we ordered a salad to be told they have no salad only lettuce. so we ordered jacket potato to be told they had no potatoes. so we said we would have the ploughman's with no bread or cheese as on slimming world so could we have ham and chicken x 2 the other one was a tuna sandwich. we waited another 15 mins still no tea !!! the food came up it must be the worse afternoon tea I have seen the scones where stale the cakes where rock hard and did not look nice at all the sandwiches where ok. the ploughman's came up with ham cheese and smoke salmon not ordered !!!! no tuna sandwich still no tea. we went in and asked for the tea at last it came with the tuna sandwich. out of 5 people only two cakes where tried and two scones. we asked for another pot of tea and it was as week as it could be they must have just put hot water in the same pot (Bad). the managers attitude was very take it or leave it but the young girls where very polite. Sorry Frasers that was out last visit and I will not be recommending you in the future. we did complain and got a whole 10% discount it wasn't even worth paying for to be honest.

I would have left zero stars if I could, Absolutely the worst afternoon tea I have ever had [ and I have had lot's of them ] , cheap ingredients served by a very stern and abrupt waitress. They had no salad except for lettuce even though it was pre ordered weeks before [ no excuse for that ]. If it hadn't been my birthday treat by my friends I would have walked out. The cakes were so bad we didn't eat them. The gardens are untidy and unkempt. The staff had an attitude and left the tables dirty and uncleared. I'm sure if this place was based anywhere else if would be closed within a month. AVOID !!

Sorry folks, avoid this place if you are on a special diet. arrived at 12.15 requested a poached egg on toast due to diet. Was told they stop using the kitchen range and this my request would be a breakfast item I was told I couldn't have it. I asked for a jacket potato and again they could'nt do it. I had already ordered the quiche of the day for my partner which he said was very nice but took ages to arrive. I had to sit there with a diet coke and nothing else.

We visited tea rooms today 19th July at 3pm, after a lovely day at a flower exhibition at Ingatestone Hall. As the weather was hot, we opted to have tea outside in the garden. However there was only 1 table available in shade, and all the other tables without parasols, were full to overflowing with the crockery and left over food from previous clients (at least 6 tables). Our table in shade, also had used crockery etc. and this was never removed!! We ordered tea and a beer, 1 cake and 1 toasted tea cake inside at the till, and on looking at the inside there were no customers inside at all. Only one other table outside, a group with dogs had just received there order, so expected a quick response.

Visited 9/6/18 for afternoon tea . Walked in from the back of the garden and decided to take one of only 2 outside tables available. I took in the last customers cups on my way to getting a menu indoors . On returning back to place our order and pay at the same time,I mentioned that the table needed wiping by whoever was going to serve us, which the girl duely acknowledged. After waiting 35 minutes and a couple that took a table and got served before us, we were served, first with drinks then cake ( 2 of each ) I didn’t bother mentioning that the table needed wiping and nor did either waitress notice , which was disappointing.

Lovely staff, lovely setting. We both had a chicken Caesar salad which was generous and very clean tasting. We were visiting the various antiques outlets and like Frasers so much that we went back for tea, sharing a scone with cream and jam and this time sitting outside in the lovely garden.

I visited here with a friend. We had a late Lunch. I ordered the cheese and caramelised onion quiche and my friend has a jacket potato. My quiche was served with homemade coleslaw, salad and crisps. It was delicious. The jacket potato was served with a side salad and a choice of fillings. We sat in the garden as the weather was glorious and it is a really lovely setting. As we were chatting so much we ordered a cream tea which was lovely, lots of clotted cream and jam. I noticed there are a few reviews regarding service but the service we received was fantastic. There were a few people inside and 2/3 tables outside during our visit. We'll definitely be back.

Really disappointed. Popped in on a quiet afternoon and was only one of two tables in the tea room. However it still took 15 mins to get tea for 2 and 2 slices of cake! When it did arrive was really not impressed. No tea spoons with the cups and although we didn't take sugar there was only sugar available from the vase on the table(Very strange)! At £4.40 you would expect a decent tea but that's not the case here. The Tea is cheap Lichfield tea that is bought at cash and carry and for some reason the teapot was only half filled will hot water, hence why we only got one teabag each! The only reason it got 2 stars was that the Bakewell tart was half decent although the Cinnamon loaf was poor. Everything in the tea room is the same colour and very unimaginative. The cobwebs do add to an antique feel I suppose! By the time we came to pay(£11.40!) We felt really unwelcome. Won't be returning.

Visited here three times now, the last two very disappointing service. Waited today for over half an hour for a pot of tea. However the next table arrived after us and had got their coffee and almost finished it before we had got our tea. And that was only after going to ask what had happened to it.

We called in here Bank Holiday Monday. Lovely outdoor setting. Tables set out on the lawn - shade and pond! The tea comes in large pots and they are happy to freshen up. The scone menu was extensive - and all seemingly cooked fresh. I have to say the best scones I have had in England.
