For Mother’s Day the place was so busy but the staff especially Stella worked above and beyond for us and she honestly made the afternoon for us, the food was also amazing !!!

Perfect place for a bottomless brunch, great food, staff are attentive to drink refills. Our server Mia was amazing, so lovely, so helpful and made the experience 10/10. Thank you Mia, you make us want to come back!!

We had a roast lunch and dessert from the lunch menu but there was only sorbet on offer to me as a vegan so I asked if I could have the vegan cheesecake from the main menu which was happily agreed and still got my meal at the lunch menu price which I really appreciated. Also, I was served with vegan cauliflower cheese with my roast which really took me by surprise as that has never been offered anywhere else so I totally appreciate your great efforts towards vegan dinners. I will be back!

My vegetarian roast dinner was delicious, however my fellow diners would have wanted proper roasted meat with their dinners rather than sliced deli style meat. My dinner was worth the price but theirs was disappointing. The manager was very efficient but food took ages and the servers had to be reminded about desserts, there wasn't much enthusiasm on this occasion!

Slow service didn’t like having the drink in a glass thought it was Pepsi Max but tasted strange, peppery my daughter is diabetic and did not like she could not see make as too much sugar could make her very ill did not drink it. Enjoyed pizza with dips and tortilla chips made a nice meal meal took 1.5hrs too long, wanted,to leave earlier but long wait for main and granddaughters dessert which was part of the menu

We love Acanteen, we visit regularly as a family with our children and for events, music and comedy nights. You are always greeted with a warm and friendly smile, nothings too much trouble and the food is always A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

Bottomless brunch was lovely. Glass never left empty! Waiter very friendly and professional.

Great vibes and music. I enjoy going to ACanteen and listen to music while having some cocktails, service was good as always, comfy sofas, nice dj music on the Saturday, I can't wait to go again. People was super helpful and friendly. I will high;y recommend. I went with my friend and she was impressed in a positive way too

Lovely food in a great atmosphere. Staff were polite and helpful!

Food was okay, i do not mind very crispy bacon, but mine was unfortunately very over done and tricky to chew. Very difficult to get wait staff's attention, it took about 30 minutes and a lot of waiving of arms before we were served and also to get the bill. Very little sound absorbing material at the back of the restaurant, difficult to have conversation without yelling at each other.

Had an amazing lunch with my mum, and had the most delicious dessert! Highly recommend the deconstructed mango and passion fruit cheesecake it was incredible!

We had a 2 course menu for an event night and the food was amazing! Service was excellent and we had a great night dancing after!

We recently visited A-Canteen in Chelmsford on 8.03.2025 and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with incredibly friendly staff who made us feel right at home. We ordered the full English breakfast, and it was beyond top-notch! Every component was cooked to perfection, with flavors that danced on our taste buds. The sausages were juicy, the eggs were fluffy, and the baked beans were simply divine. You can truly taste the quality in every bite! Now, let's talk about the banana bread—wow! It was hands down the best we've ever had! Moist, flavorful, and just the right amount of sweetness, it’s a must-try that pairs perfectly with a cup of their fantastic coffee. To top it all off, the service was impressively speedy without feeling rushed, allowing us to fully enjoy our meal. Hired the private room for an event. The food was nice but the service depended on which staff member you interacted with. Some were helpful, but it took us five attempts to order 2 bottles of water at one point. Each request was met with hesitation and there was a general unwillingness to be helpful.

Free range products make the food really delicious here. Management is really nice and brought me new latte on the house when my one went cold. We'll definitely be coming back again.

The food here is fantastic, no complaints at all. It comes out quick and piping hot with plenty of vegetarian friendly options. The only issue is we were left waiting quite some time to get our bill, to the point we had to go and find someone ourselves to pay. Apart from that a really lovely spot to grab some great food!

First time visit for us as Jaki Graham is my favourite soul artist. To see her perform up close in a more intimate environment was fantastic. Will definitely look out for upcoming events as absolutely loved the venue, atmosphere and location 🫶

Best night ever at Acanteen with Jaki Graham. Food was absolutely delicious (especially the monkfish!), Jaki Graham still has an amazing voice and she is such a lovely lady. The DJ afterwards was spot on too. Well done Emma for organising such a brilliant evening 🤩

We went for a cheeky valentines day lunch time meal and I must say the vibes on entry where on point. The staff where more than friendly helpful and attentive to ours needs. The food was absolutely amazing we both had the Braised Shortrib with tatter tots and we are still talking about it the morning after cause it was so delicious. We also had the sticky toffee pudding and I think I can still taste 😋. The price i thought was on point aswell Would 100% recommend

Food was lovely when we eventually got it but the service was abysmal. We had to get their attention to ask for service then waited 20 minutes for just a drink. Restaurant only a quarter full and plenty of staff but they didn’t seem to know what to do or how to take an order. Took three people to take our food order!! I think they’d have to train their waiting staff a lot better before I’d think about going back.

Amazing vibes (we’re over 30’s and 40’s for reference) and delicious meals. 6 of us met up for dinner and there were 6 clean plates at the end! Lovely cocktails and beers and great music. Loved it. Service really attentive and polite. Will return soon!

We waited over 45mins for our food despite preordering. When we asked the waiter (twice) he didn’t seem to think waiting over 45min was a problem.. seemed odd When it did come it was very tasty and hot

My 7 year olds favourite place to go in Chelmsford. He enjoys the waffle, bacon and maple syrup - which isn’t actually on the menu but the staff always offer to do it for him, which is super cool. I had the small breakfast in this occasion and it was very tasty. The big stand out was the sausage which was rich and flavoursome. Staff were fun and welcoming which is always the case and we had a really pleasant time Saturday morning. Will be back no problem.

Came here for an event on Saturday night and had a great time! I didn't eat but the food looked delicious. The bar staff were friendly and it had the right amount of people in without it being overcrowded. My only thing but this is common nowadays is that it's a cashless bar. I would still like the choice.

We didnt eat this time but had a fantastic time at the Sultra gig on 1st Feb. Great welcoming venue, awesome sound system, and friendly crowd alongside fantastic dj’s made this a night to remember. Would definitely return. Cheers!

Acanteen is one of those rare venues that just knows how to treat its customers. Staff on the door, the bar staff, security, chefs (food is eclectic and delicious), and all the fabulous DJ’s conjure up an experience and atmosphere that makes you want to return time and time again. Kudos to the owners.

This is a venue that offers everything! Great food, great service and great entertainment. The food was so good on Saturday evening that we went back for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere Saturday night for the Sultra event was incredible

We often call in here for a roast on a Sunday and it’s always good but yesterdays roast was 10/10 Hats off to the kitchen! Front of house are all lovely as usual, however always found the service a little bit lacking and literally every visit we’ve had to ask to order drinks, and even follow up drinks which gets a bit tedious. Maybe some better systems in place would help the experience at the customer end instead of leaving the (albeit very polite) waiters to deal with the floor haphazardly. Overall love this venue and the knock out roast is reason enough to visit 👊🏼

We really enjoyed our mum night-out here. We went when they hosted the Magic Mike-inspired event. The food and the drinks were really good! I think the audio system could be improved but the show was great nonetheless. Really fun!

Service was poor & food was below average, mostly overcooked/burnt, was sent back & refund requested. Wouldn't be in a rush to return.

Food was nice overall but the service was fairly poor in terms of timing - it took about 20 mins to get our drinks after chasing. The serving staff however were more than pleasant. It was a busy Sunday morning so quite loud but a good atmosphere. We've eaten in A Canteen several times and generally always have a good meal and experience. One request - please bring back the hash benny!

It was alright food, but the service was not the best, once we were seated and our orders taken for our mains, we were not approached again by any of the staff and they were not short staffed.

The coffee service was really slow, our food came and it was after that our coffee came.

We visited Acanteen today and had a fantastic experience compared to a previous slightly negative experience which I was reluctant to post. The service was excellent and as always the food was delicious. It has changed my previous experience and I would certainly be revisiting with family and friends and recommend highly. The food and environment were great. My partner said she felt incredibly cold. Though I didn't notice anything, perhaps as it was still relatively early in the morning, the venue was still warming up.

Had Excellent meal in here last week with work friends. Our waiter (Red) was incredibly attentive and a great laugh.

Great main meal 9-10 v poor desert it was not a chocolate brownie it was chocolate mousse

Evening buffet for works party no where near up to standard of normal food we have normally. Very little choice and was expecting a great deal more choice.

Meeting a friend in sofa lounge for coffee. Had made a booking which was checked. As always a relaxed atmosphere. Succumbed to a mince pie 🥧 that was heated up for us- a nice touch.

Our worst visit, have been loads of times and it’s always been good, we had a table at past 3pm on a Sunday, the roast wasn’t nice, maybe our mistake for eating late but it all tasted like it had been sat there all day (which it probably had). Was not impressed, sorry.

Always a great night at A Canteen, my favourite place to go out in Chelmsford for an evening. Great food, great wine & always a friendly crowd. We saw an Oasis tribute band & they were brilliant, such a brilliant cool venue. Looking froward to the raving frog event in April next :-)

CHANGED MY REVIEW TO 5 STARS. New gluten free menu is amazing. Well done. I came on Saturday for lunch. As celiac I can't recommend ACanteen, in fact I would avoid. Confusing menu where each item has to be cross referenced to a large dirty looking folder with limited help from the waitress. In the end we walked out and went to Bills where they had a separate menu specifically with GF items. No fuss. I have eaten at ACanteen before I was diagnosed with celiac disease and the food was good. But they seem to be behind the times when it comes to dealing with intolerances. Up your game ACanteen. Just stick a GF on the items that GF at the very least. At best print another menu with options and advise staff how to deal with customers with intolerances.

We visited Sunday lunch time and the 3 of us had the Set Menu a roast and a dessert. We was not disappointed the roast was really good with plenty of food and very good value . We all had the different desserts and they where so good with the Cheesecake so tasty . We will visit again very soon. Well done to the Chefs for great food.

Not as good as previous visits, beef was slightly overcooked, cauliflower cheese was bland, and food took 45 minutes to arrive after ordering. Two of our party were there for the first time so as a first impression for them it was underwhelming, we have had much better from Acanteen previously

First time at Acanteen, came to see Dave Lee play at their Love Sensation night. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. Bar staff was pleasant. Would come again.

Good food, good-sized portions, good atmosphere at the beginning, but as it emptied, the atmosphere dropped off.

We used the front lounge area for a birthday party for 26 people, then had a Sunday roast for all of us after. Staff were exceptional, attentive and we had a fantastic meal. Couldn’t be happier, thank you guys 💫🙏

Great, child friendly place to eat with a great selection of food. The staff are wonderful (especially Red) and always make us feel like VIPs and experienced in understand want customers want.
