The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere with friendly service. The breakfast combo is outstanding! And is my favourite menu as it has 5-6 items together and is heart filling as well. A perfect start to the day! Highly recommend.

Very friendly staff and incredible food

Chelmsford chennai dosa makes me feel like home away from home. They are so consistently making the real authentic South Indian food like exactly how its served in south India. Kudos to the chef and support staff for your hard word. I would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to have hot idly ,crispy dosa with number of chutneys and many more they offer.

The place was empty and food wasn’t good bring us something else also staff I’m not gonna rude but not clean at all and charge us extra

Chennai Dosa serves south Indian and North Indian dishes at a reasonable price. We visit that place regularly mainly because food is of decent quality. However noticed that they don't maintain good hygiene. I have never seen any of their staff washing hands after cleaning dirty tables. The portion of food is not consistent and on the top of that no one cares about the feedback given by customers.. Last weekend I ordered mix uttappam and the size was almost half of the usual size, but they charged the full price. If you tell anything to the person in charge who is there most of the time taking orders, he would just smile, never apologise or acknowledge the feedback. Instead he will give a long list of excuses with big smile, instead of apologising or correcting the problem..Having said that, still the food is tasty. But surely they need to improve on hygiene, consistency on quality, quality of food and customer care.

Standards are slipping unfortunately as the months have progressed

Food was lovely! The staff were very friendly but did forget a few items but to be honest we were so full it wasn't an issue and there where no quibbles when it came to the bill. It's a No-Frills place to eat. Not overly expensive. Didn't go for the ambience or decor, just decent food. Like I say, just make sure you get what you ordered!

We were pleasantly surprised to find Chennai dosa in Chelmsford and quickly decided to dine there this evening. Service was outstanding with very kind and attentive staff. Food was delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Initial days it was good..food and service was good but now it's getting bad to worse..especially the commercial way of cutting cost one quantity of take away and it's only bones in chicken biriyani..quantity is reduced in curry's...

First time experience was an extremely bitter one. Had so much expectations for a South Indian restaurant in Chelmsford but was totally not worth it. The service was absolutely terrible and the waiter or the manager, I’m not sure, served a different item than what I ordered. More like forcing me to eat something that I didn’t order. Utterly disappointing ambience and worst service ever. Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to any South Indian friend :(( it is not worth the money paid at all. The food was very bland and there weren’t any spices or taste to the dish, pretty much all the dishes we ordered were bland and tasteless. Spent around £80 for 5 people, is a total waste

Used to be good but , very poor customer service and the order of service wasn’t professional at all . Starter came last , my mains came after everyone was done eating. Food is way below average. I shouldn’t be saying this , but this is after number of visits and a couple of hundreds spending there . , my verdict: provide good service and quality of food please

I had high hopes for Chennai Dosa, given its reputation. Unfortunately, my experience was a huge disappointment. The service was incredibly slow, with our orders taking nearly an hour to arrive. When the food finally did come, it was lukewarm and lacked the authentic flavors I expected. The dosa was soggy and the sambar was bland. To make matters worse, the restaurant was not clean, and the staff seemed indifferent to our complaints. Overall, it was a terrible dining experience, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. Remember, reviews can vary widely, and experiences may differ, so it's always good to check multiple sources before forming an opinion. The way they treat their employees is also worst.

Went as a team there to try a few Indian dishes, the food was average but we all started to experience stomach issues too quickly, one after the other. Haven't experienced a horrible food poisoning before, God! Took us all a few weeks to recover. Wouldn't go there again.

I had waited ages to have a couple of mins to get a takeaway from this place. It's smells divine from outside. Staff were lovely. Meat was good quality. Unfortunately, when I got home, I couldn't eat it. Every mouthful just burnt - so no flavour, just burning chilli. As it was late, I waited until the next day and covered it all in yoghurt. Managed some of it - a few pieces of chicken, but ended up throwing it away. I used to work in Whitechapel, and enjoyed many Indian meals, full of the taste of the spices. I will stick with Rafi's Spice Mixes in future, as she right my says, heat is just chilli and it kills the actual taste of the dish.

Been there recently and had a terrible experience.

We had an extremely distressing experience at this restaurant. Our group, consisting of over ten people, dined there and subsequently suffered severe gastric issues. The following day, many of us experienced stomach pain and diarrhea. The quality of the food served is highly questionable and raises serious concerns.

this is such a great Indian restaurant in the area, and the food is top notch (especially the dosas and the breakfast thali). they also do fresh juices and the watermelon juice is out of this world. the customer service is great, including krishna, who is a great host. would definitely recommend <3

Visited this restaurant last day. Ordered a coffee and Onion Rava Dosa was really nice . My friend order so called Kerala Thali. I think that name is target to attract kerala customers but dish would be better named as Madras Thali or Chennai Thali. Sadly there was nothing which can be called as kerala dish even rice was white rice 🤦🏻‍♂️.. moving forward.. I decided to order Sweet Lassi.. OMG .. Lassi was like someone put some water and sugar in yoghurt. It was so bad I couldn’t drink .Informed staff in there but they mentioned that’s how they make it but they don’t add water in it 🤔🤔. To make it worse at the end they charged more for Thalli and Lassi than its written in menu.. So sad that I noticed when I reached home .. otherwise definitely would go and ask them .. finally no parking space . So I personally wouldn’t recommend anyone. If you like to go have dosa . But make sure you check how much you are paying.. Hate when people cheat to make money 💴😡💴

We visited this place twice, the food is super delicious...but unfortunately the service was not so good. On our first visit we ordered, and staff forgot to bring us our drinks. On our second visit, my partner asked twice during the meal for an extra portion of his meal, and this was also forgotten about. It seems that the wait staff don't listen to their customers. I've never had this problem at the Ipswich branch of Chennai Dosa...and because this has happened twice at the Chelmsford branch, I won't be visiting again.

Had an amazing meal here today with my wife and my daughter. The food was absolutely 10/10 delicious and very reasonably priced. The service from the staff was amazing and the two girls working their today were so attentive to my daughter keeping her smiling throughout. I would like to mention Moni in particular (apologies if I spelt it wrong!), she was excellent and so good with our little one :). Will definitely be visiting again soon and highly recommend, thanks 😀

Love the taste of the food here. Halal chicken available. My fav dishes are Paneer manchurian, chicken 65, tandoori chicken and onion rava dosa. Masala tea is a must have in the cold season and mango lassi is loved too.

Food tasted great, authentic Indian food flavour. Nothing like any indian restaurant in the area. Speedy service. Atmosphere could be better but not relevant as the foods so good.

Reasonable price and satisfies my south Indian food cravings 😊 But some dishes are a bit too spicy these days like biriyani, kothuporotta, beef fry which used to be fine.. Chicken fry that comes with Chappathi chicken fry combo is not cooked inside.. We eat there every single week as this is our only south Indian option with so many varieties and also priced reasonably. Taking one star from service rating as they miss number of items in the take away parcels which we often realise after reaching home.

Bad experience. The person who took the order didn't know about simple ingredients if it was present in certain dishes, one of orders were vegetarian Tali and after an hour when enquired about the delay they said Rice is just boiling. The person could have reported the reason far earlier so we could have changed the food. Further to the frustration, there is no card machine for paying. There is no information written anywhere, they should have mentioned as a small display at entering door. The food that came the last was not properly cooked as there was a hurry because it was too late. And after long wait, after eating, then one person who ate have to go find an cash machine and come back to pay. Such a disappointing business. Anyone, going through this town thinking to have a meal after a long drive, this is not the place.

Staff are incredibly friendly, the food is authentic and delicious. Very quick service. Thoroughly recommend the paneer 65 and vege manchurian. The dosa is the best I've had since leaving London. A hidden gem in Chelmsford

I recently dined at this restaurant and had a fantastic experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by Senthil Kumar, whose customer service was exemplary throughout my visit. The restaurant's exterior may not be flashy, but don't let that deceive you. I ordered a variety of dishes including Veg Biryani, Dosa, Chilli Paneer, and coffee for dining in, and also got Poori for takeaway. Everything was delicious and exceeded my expectations. In fact, the Veg Biryani was an absolute standout, earning a solid 10/10 rating from me. It was so good that it made the 30-minute drive to the restaurant entirely worth it. Even my friend, who ordered the Chicken Biryani, was impressed and thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Despite the slightly dated appearance of the building, the restaurant was clean, including the restrooms, although they could use a bit of a facelift to match the quality of the food and service. Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food and exceptional service. I'll definitely be returning soon.

This place was recommended by few friends to me, I was eager to visit and taste the so called meals. I totally agree with them as I had a lovely South Indian meal at Chelmsford for today’s lunch. Food was so delicious and amazing, we really liked Sambaru (best in UK up to now). We had Methu and masala wade, chicken biriyani, dosa and chicken devil. It was good spicy. Staff were so welcoming and friendly. Good service. Price is so reasonable. Toilets available. Definitely visit again if happens to come Chelmsford. Highly recommend for Indian food lovers. Only negative thing is no on site parking, you have to park in a recent public park and walk to the restaurant.

Best indian restaurant in Chelmsford. Authentic taste of the South Indian dishes, very close to home or just like home cooked. If you like a bit of spice, this is the place for you. If you don't, get some extra raita and you will be sorted! There is a wide variety of breakfast dishes! Indian cuisine is not all about Curries:) All in all, a must visit in Chelmsford!

I moved from Chennai to Chelmsford recently and got to know about this restaurant through my friend. It’s a restaurant which made me and family feel not to miss South Indian food in this area. Best price, best taste, Best quality and best quantity. If you’re coming in a car it might be bit of searching you have to do for parking. A meter parking is there in Victoria road side and that’s the best place to park or May be in river side retail park. If you are in Chelmsford or nearby area do not miss this restaurant which is pocket friendly and has amazing taste, you will not regret choosing this restaurant. Our regular order is Chenna batura and Dosas. Tried Sambar vada and veg meals and it was awesome too. Chicken curry and plain biriyani was a great combo which family enjoyed. We have become a regular here. Overall the best South Indian restaurant in the vicinity.

Quality wise one of the finest South Indian food in Chelmsford. Quatity wise I would say poor. Good Customer service. But Parking is a nightmare.

Great portions, satisfyingly tasteful, professional service and a plethora of dishes I had not seen before. The customers, by a large majority, have roots in the Tamil area of India. The low prices are quite remarkable. My only niggle about the restaurant is the brightness of the lighting.

I have tried Chennai Dosa at East Ham then how can I miss one that is near. I was eager to visit this place and have been setting up the order until it was officially opened. After a lot of planning, I finally managed to visit the restaurant. A family of 5, ordered fish biryani, mutton biryani, mixed noodles, non-veg thali, mutton kothu porota and natholi fry. The food was awesome, service was quick, and the atmosphere was pleasant (not crowded or queue). Highly recommended

Dropped in to have dosai for lunch after a visit to Broomfield hospital. Food was delicious. Staff are friendly.

Went in the afternoon and had Masala Dosa. The staff were very friendly. Food was as good as one would expect back in India. They were late with my order of Lassi and not only did they apologise but did not charge me. The place is bit small as the it seems like quite popular restaurant. I hope they can soon expand so that they can accommodate more customers. Certainly will recommend this place and visit at the next opportunity.

Worst experience ever had with a South Indian restaurant. We were not happy with the food, it is not South Indian taste.

Food were really good. Tried gobi manchurian, masala dosa and beef & keralan paratha. Specially loved the beef roast and keralan paratha 👌. Service is great as well. Very friendly staffs. Food suggestions were great. Will visit again.

I have been to this place 3-4 times till now and everytime its a great experience. Food is very good and taste authentic. Kids will love the kids dosa. Chilli paneer is good too.

Stunning authentic South Indian cuisine. Dishes were ample and spices were perfect. Texture melted and was succulent and buttery in the mouthfeel. Superb spices and cooked perfectly. Ate here for the first time yesterday with a large group for breakfast. Slick service by happy staff. The breakfast combo is a must have. So tasty and varied plate of delicious foods. Closed my eyes and could have been in Kerela. One of the best Dosa I have had anywhere in the world. 10* from me.

I keep forgetting to take a picture of my dosa because the minute it hits the table I have to tuck in to it immediately. Best south Indian restaurant in the country. Authentic food, excellent service. Krishna always greets us with a lovely smile and we've gone back so many times he's probably wondering if we ever eat at home!!

I just came with my friends and the taste was very delicious. Atlast service was really good and am really happy with that and the staffs are friendly and highly recommended.
