Our second time here. First time absolutely amazing, staff couldn’t do enough for us and food was outstanding. This time, well let’s just says standards have fallen. The chap at the entrance and who served us seemed to have a chip on his little shoulders. Left a generous tip last time but made sure to leave nothing this time, so well done to him. As for the food, would have been nice but both our risotto starters and mains were over salted. Next time we visit chatsworth house we won’t be back here. A shame, the first visit we were stunned at both the food and service.

We booked in for 3 nights from a Monday to a Wednesday on a bed and breakfast basis. We were aware that there would be no evening restaurant service for the first two nights. The location and grounds are beautiful and the front line staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Unfortunately the bed in our room was very uncomfortable - for a lightweight person the mattress was extremely hard with no give in it at all. As a result I had no sleep on the first night and was in a lot of pain by the morning, so much so that we reluctantly decided to end our stay. In accordance with the terms and conditions we were liable for the full cost, which we understood, and we paid without any fuss. However, as there seemed to be no other guests in residence at the time it was clear that our late cancellation had no impact on the ability to re- sell the accommodation to someone else, and I believe that meeting us half way with the costs would have been reasonable in the interests of good customer relations. We were offered another room but obviously the mattress was likely to be the same. I know everyone has different needs and there have been some very favourable reviews but I can only tell of my own experience. Our breakfast was well served and prepared but the choice was limited for a hotel of this standard - there did not seem to be any pastries/croissants on the menu.

Our choice of the tea cottage for a light lunch turned out to be a great one. The menu isn’t long but it doesn’t need to be because there is plenty of choice and freshness and quick service are the hallmarks. Delightful, apart from the difficulty parking.

5 of us booked Sunday lunch. We often visit Charley’s for breakfast as we know it’s good. We ordered the Sunday roast 3 choosing beef the other 2 lamb . It was amazing and all the vegetables , cauliflower cheese included . Clearly the best Sunday lunch you will get for miles . Well done , we will be returning.

Remarkably good. Excellent coffee (made properly) taste of the coffee is different to anything you would find around. It actually tastes how you would want a coffee to taste if you were to go out and enjoy one. The breakfasts and cakes look insane and we will deffo be back.

I have lived in Derbyshire all my life and of course, this is a case of ‘what’s on your doorstep’ you hardly ever consider! My friend arranged for myself and another friend to meet up and discuss all things countryside and veer onto other topics, at a rate of 19 to the dozen - as you do when you have not met up for a while. Walking into this little place was like stepping into a storybook … it has an astonishing atmosphere - I felt I was walking into somewhere I’d been before and it was so wonderful and cozy. We ate … the food was gorgeous and I don’t know who has put four ££££ signs at the top, but I can tell you, it’s not expensive whatsoever. I had a lovely posh toastie, with goat’s cheese, sweet pepper, rocket and tomato chutney and it was delicious … certainly filled a gap (was quite tempered with pudding). What was so nice was the fact that the area we were in was really snug and you had no choice but to say ‘Hello’ to those around you … so if you’re a miserable sod, this isn’t the place for you. I blummin loved it and will definitely go again!

Lovely little cafe, excellent breakfast. We booked a table in advance to avoid disappointment. We really enjoyed both drinks and food, the only thing was our first drinks took a while, but the place was busy! Would recommend and definitely go again.

The Cavendish takes its name from the illustrious family that has occupied Chatsworth. It's located in the former stables--there were a lot of horses back in the day! I thought my arancini appetizer was delicious even though the tomato sauce was not made with fresh tomatoes. I was disillusioned when I saw the same arancini at the Farm Shop deli. The vegetable garniture for the lamb had been sautéed too much and had a charred taste. Parboiling and a quick sauté in butter or olive oil would have been better. While service was up to par for such elegant surroundings it could be improved by more attention to detail such as uncorking the water decanter, moving the sugar bowl within reach of the guest, and never leaving the reception area unattended at any time. Actually I got the impression that they were understaffed. I couldn't see the rest of the dining room and perhaps they were swamped. That would explain things. I assume Chatsworth will not find these comments too fussy as the follow up visit questionnaire is quite long and detailed.

A sunny Sunday and a nice coffee and pastry at the Chatsworth Farm shop reminds you how beautiful Derbyshire often is. The service has been sharpened considerably over the last couple of years and is now friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks are also better value. Happy to once again recommend a visit to anyone living or visiting the area.

We have stayed and eaten at The Cavendish before and been impressed. They have had a refurbishment since which we liked. We had the tasting menu one night then had 4 friends join us for dinner the other night and the food was excellent. Unfortunately the whole experience was let down by the service which had previously been very good. Some staff were good but most were inattentive, lacking in knowledge and not really interested. I asked the restaurant manager to advise me what white wines were medium dry as one of our guests didn’t like dry wine and he looked at the wine list then said “maybe try a Chablis”. That’s about the worst advice he could have given as that is one of the driest wines. He should have said he didn’t know rather than bluff. At breakfast a waitress cleared my crockery from the first course but left my wife’s. 2 other members of staff came to the table but neither cleared her crockery. It wasn’t busy but they were not looking to see what needed doing. On the second night when we had guests there was a wedding on in the other room and we felt very neglected. After the first round of drinks, which took ages to come, nobody came to ask if we wanted any more. Once we had finished coffee, which we had to ask for, nobody came back to ask if we wanted anything else and there was nobody around to ask for the bill. Luckily I wanted it all charged to my room as I was treating my guests but if we had wanted to split the bill we would have struggled to find someone to do that for us. Finally, while most of the refurbishment was an improvement the chairs in the gallery restaurant were incredibly uncomfortable while the old ones were very comfortable. Maz, who was very helpful and friendly, did get us some comfortable chairs from the private dining room though.

Stopped of for a quick bite for breakfast before a walk. Both me and my husband had a bacon sandwich which was generously filled on lovely fluffy white bread. Very dog friendly and lovely coffee also. It was a tad pricey but is in a good and convenient location.
