Our second time here. First time absolutely amazing, staff couldn’t do enough for us and food was outstanding. This time, well let’s just says standards have fallen. The chap at the entrance and who served us seemed to have a chip on his little shoulders. Left a generous tip last time but made sure to leave nothing this time, so well done to him. As for the food, would have been nice but both our risotto starters and mains were over salted. Next time we visit chatsworth house we won’t be back here. A shame, the first visit we were stunned at both the food and service.

Absolutely horrendous customer service. Me and my boyfriend went in this Sunday for a quick drink were we struggling to open the door, we motioned to the man behind the bar (Grey hair with a strange man bun) to help us, as he open the door we asked if it was okay if we could pop in for a drink he replied in the most condescending way with such a disgusted look on his face “you have 3 minutes” we couldn’t quite believe the response we had been given so swiftly decided we weren’t going to bother spending a penny in that pub. I wouldn’t recommend this pub to anyone with manners or morals as clearly their staff have none.

We had a booking for Sunday lunch and sadly we were late due for our booking due to us getting lost on our long walk to the b29 crash site at bleaklow hill ,glossop. We rang and explained we would be late and expected our booking to be cancelled. However the person who spoke to us was so friendly and helpful. They managed to still get us in. We finally turned up over an hour late (sorry). The guy behind the bar was polite, smiley and friendly and was like a breath of fresh air. We were served and the food was OMG! divine. Just wanted to say a huge thank you for accommodating us and the outstanding customer service by your bar staff and waiters. Massive thanks also to the chefs for the best Sunday roast we have all had in a long time. Will certainly recommend and be making future returns. Thank you. Louise W

A nice looking pub. Traditional outside, contemporary inside. A small celebratory lunch. The fish and chips were excellent. The beef burger is disappointing. A pretzel bun. Pretzel is actually a pastry rather than a bread, so very heavy to be used as a burger bun. A mixture of pulled beef and beef pattie did not really work. Pickles were not good either. The chocolate desert with banana, toffee and praline was delicious. So a mixed review. The service was good and the young lady who served us attentive.

Went here for our 5 year anniversary. Won't be returning. Food is chain pub quality for a 5* price. We were shoved in a side room where you can see the kitchen yet food came cold. Mains followed the starters like almost immediately so I'm not sure how 'freshly made' food is. I ordered the burger without sauce (as I don't like blue cheese) and with being in view of kitchen could hear them moaning about my order. Followed by a member of the kitchen watching me eat it. Had our server been around this is something I'd have brought up but we didn't see anyone and being that we were hungry we ate the food. Having read other reviews I have to agree to the burger being overpriced and bland the meat dry even after adding plain mayo to it. The wine we chose was £50+ but is £24 in Waitrose. We finally saw our server again to offer us dessert however once we'd declined dessert that was it. No one came back to us, another round of drinks would've be nice but nothing. The other half had to go find someone to pay the bill. Whilst he was gone (I'm assuming it was the places accountant that was seated next to us as someone brought them a large bag of receipts which felt somewhat unprofessional) our server reappeared and stood next me only to talk to accountant. To which the person had to tell her to move so I could leave as she was blocking my way. We were never once was asked how the food was or if everything was alright. Just seemed like they'd got our money and were done with us. Not how we wanted to spend our Anniversary. £130+ wasted, money doesn't bother us when it's worth it. This wasn't. As locals to the area we'll stick to the pubs we know. If you want a fine dining experience try the Maynard because this is just an overpriced weatherspoons.

In the restaurant we had a truly awful meal. The first course (crispy lamb) was charred but not in good way. It was burnt. It tasted of cinders. The main claimed to be onion tart. In fact it was a small disc of pastry smeared with something brown (don't ask) and covered in a horrible white goo and some bits of salad. A side of seasonal veg was, predictably, overcooked and sad. How this place has achieved its reputation is beyond me. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid

we booked a meal for two on Friday, we arrived at the POW at 6.45pm, it was very busy we were taken to our table which was down stairs, the staff were very friendly and attentive, we choose the fish and chips as it was Friday special with a free glass of prosecco, the menu is excellent with a choice of meals, the food came quickly and it was delicious, choice of normal frys or junky chips, we both enjoyed the meal, followed by sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream which was again delicious, we would recommend the Prince of Wales just for a drink or for a meal, strongly recommend to book online as it was very busy,

We have just had the most amazing meal here. Every mouth full was absolutely delicious. We both had the pork knuckle. OMG. So Blummin good. I’ve not tasted anything so good, and we only eat in good top quality eateries all over the world The price was spot on averaging around £20 and under, or top price £25 under. Worth every penny. The ‘young’ staff (I’ve put in inverted commas, because someone posted a negative. ). They were fabulous. Very efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back on our next visit up here. Tbh I’m glad we don’t live local, we would be in here at least twice a week. It is truly amazing. Hats off to the chef (chefs) and thank you for the wonderful food. Great team work.

We had the roast beef Sunday lunch. I’m always reluctant to order beef when out for a Sunday lunch as it can be hit and miss, but with it saying on the menu it was Derbyshire beef and with my husband ordering it too, I took the plunge and I was not disappointed! The beef was beautifully cooked and lovely and tender. The accompanying veg was also beautifully cooked and very tasty. It was a tad on the pricey side at £21 and the portions weren’t overly large but I would definitely order again. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert whilst by husband had the chocolate mousse. Both were delicious, but we both thought the mousse was slightly over-priced at £9.50 as it was a small portion. Service was good and all staff were welcoming, friendly and accommodating. It was our first visit but we will definitely be returning.

I hate to be over critical but this was not a good experience, we had prebooked a table well in advance and on arrival was sat by the main entrance door. What a mistake! My wife spent the next hour or so closing the door which kept being left open, I had to place a coat over my legs to avoid the terrible cold draught that kept coming in each time the door opened. For the price, £20 for fish and chips, the meal was just about average, I still felt hungry after we had eaten. You can give a pub a posh description but at best it was still a village pub, drinks over priced and food over rated.

My son and I visited for Sunday lunch. My son chose as a main courses roasted beetroot , I seared cod. The beetroot dish was like a starter, very small compared with my dish and terrible value for money - and embarrassing. On mentioning this to the waitress, she shrugged her shoulders. Dessert, - my son’s sticky toffee pudding was fine but the panaccota was the smallest I’ve seen. The quality is good but the portions do seem to be thought about with more care.

I was quite underwhelmed on the whole to be honest. We went for Sunday lunch and thought the food was average at best, lots of reviews mention tasty food but we found it to be quite bland - I've definitely had better. Lots of the veg was plain boiled, no seasoning. The green puree at the bottom was unnecessary, it added nothing to it. Not sure if the carrot was meant to be roasted but it was a bit sad and soggy, as were the roast potatoes. Yorkshire pudding was nice but quite small. It was all slightly lukewarm to say it came so quickly. Menu also misses off the sides for Roasts like Cauliflower Cheese. I had plenty of meat but my husband had a lot less, more gravy would also have been welcome. Drink service was slow, one gentleman was running round trying to do everything while the 2 girls behind the bar did what looked like the minimum they could get away with. Overall, quite expensive for what it is, lots of room for improvement and was quite disappointed in terms of what I've read online!

The Prince of Wales is situated in Baslow not too far from Chatsworth House. It has it's own car park with space for about a dozen cars. The premises were well presented, clean and welcoming. As well as a bar area there were three dining areas on 3 different levels. Two real ales were available, Sharp's Doombar and Abbeydale Moonshine as well as three premium expensive lagers: Staropramen, San Miguel and Madri. The food menu was focused on high end cuisine but 3 sandwiches were available. The service was good and the staff were very pleasant and efficient. The food was cooked and prepared in an open kitchen and was very well presented and of good quality. The price of food and drink was high when compared to other pubs in the area meaning the value for money was poor. If you are prepared to pay top dollar for drinks and food meticulous prepared and carefully presented the Prince of Wales may be worth a visit.

We had a delicious meal at the Prince of Wales last week. I took my husband for his birthday and he was delighted. Most people seemed to be ordering the excellent looking burgers and fish and chips, but we were attracted to some of the creative menu items and had the monkfish tikka masala (which was so good I am going to try to copy it), the venison and the beetroot tart tatin. It was the little touches and garnishes on the dishes that made them so delightful. We should definitely must stop just coming here on birthdays and visit more often! Bar staff and staff in the restaurant were lovely and very helpful.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday. The menu is limited and expensive. Fair enough. You don’t mind paying for quality. Food was ok. Nice chicken starter. Main of burger was good. Barnsley lamb chop- £18 for a chop with some green veg. Stated on...

The pub is lovely, however, nearly £9 for a large white wine and soda is a little rich for me!! I certainly won’t be returning anytime soon, unless a get another mortgage out on the house!!

We called for lunch ona Sunday after walking in the Peaks. Lovely modern but comfortable interior. Menu was enticing. We went for a mix of bits and pieces as was a bit too warm to fancy a full roast. Husband had French onion soup (apparently...

What a fabulous find. Having been at a wedding the day before and had plenty to eat and drink, we were looking for a pub that served something more than traditional roast dinners. We both had the fattoush salad and what a great choice it...

Sunday lunch for four upstairs in clean rustic lines. The menu is reasonably short as room for traditional lunch. The Caesar salad has a great twist, fish & chips battered to perfection & others sea bass delicious. Even made room for affogato. Peak ale &...

From the photos the outside looks dreary. The car park is very small. This put us off dining here. However we did pop in for a drink one evening and were shocked at how modern but homely the inside was. The staff were extremely friendly....

Guaranteed a welcome and very good standard of food. The only problem as a local is the menu does not change often enough, at least a speciality de jour would be helpful. None the less our go to and never disappoints. Watch the chefs cook...

We were all very happy with our food. It was really great to see a much more interesting and well executed vegetarian option too. My bbq celeriac with Jerusalem artichoke and blue cheese purée was so delicious.

I visited these tearooms with my daughters on Friday 24th May. I have been to other tea shops in Bakewell, but Toscas is by far the best. We had afternoon tea for three of us, we sat outside in the court yard. The afternoon tea arrived and there was lots of lovely cake and sandwiches, beautifully presented, and our host friendly and gave us a warm welcome. We really enjoyed our afternoon tea, very civilised, we will defiantly be visiting again. In fact we will have a day out to bakewell just to visit Toscas .

We only live about 20 minutes and driven passed many times. We stopped on the way back from Buxton. They weren’t officially open however they were more than happy to serve us. It was awful weather outside but they had the log burner going so was gorgeous and warm. Cafe was all clean. Food delicious. Cakes scrumptious. The staff are so friendly. Car park is close and large. Definitely will be going again.
