A sunny Sunday and a nice coffee and pastry at the Chatsworth Farm shop reminds you how beautiful Derbyshire often is. The service has been sharpened considerably over the last couple of years and is now friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks are also better value. Happy to once again recommend a visit to anyone living or visiting the area.

We have been customers of the cafe for well over 15 years, visiting at least weekly and have experienced the quality of food vary from visit to visit. We had lunch there last week and the food was really poor. My mum ordered the braised beef brisket with Colcannon and struggled to eat it. The cabbage within the Colcannon was almost raw and was stringy, chewy and very unpleasant. The slab of beef was dry and the green vegetable sides were not cooked properly. I had the roast beef which was flavourless, with watery gravy and roast potatoes and parsnips which were dried up and tasteless. Very uninspiring and disappointing as we had been looking forward to our visit. Please can the cafe and kitchen managers look at the reviews and actually do something about the standard of what is being served? The location and views of the cafe are beautiful but the food is really not good enough.

Such a disappointing roast beef lunch…. My jaw aches from trying to chew the slabs of overcooked beef. Roasties were old and dried out, other veg overcooked. Tasteless watery gravy. Yorkshire was burnt. £16 for sub standard meal.

Having been to this restaurant on numerous occasions we decided to go again on Wednesday the the 14th.We were early for lunch but that didn't matter as we would wait.We ordered two roast beef dinners and ,two still waters. The waitress brought tap water not bottled as requested. The roast arrived pretty quickly, and then it went downhill. The beef was very tough and to my mind undercooked, but that is subjective. The mange tout and green beans were cold.We ate what we could and decided to leave. On paying I pointed out to the girl my disappointment. She then without question gave us a 10% discount, welcome but not what I was looking for.I couldn't fault the staff or service. The food on this occasion let the day down.

It was a lovely place to eat lunch especially when the weather became misty. The service was excellent and a very large meal which tasted great. One thing we were surprised at that the rose wine we ordered came in a can like a soft drink, but it wasn’t bad.

My annual visit to the farm shop cafe. We had to wait quite a time and I was just about to complain when our waitress came and apologised profusely and completely defused the situation. So full marks to waitress Nicola for being so friendly and efficient. Our food and drink were both good as well. So we will look forward to our visit this time next year.

The cafe is in a beautiful location with magnificent views. Staff were very friendly and service quite quick. The food is usually very good and a bit of a treat to visit. However lunch on Friday was far from good, 1 star for the quality of the Roast today. The beef was mostly ok, thick cut and lean, but some slices were dry, suggesting they’d been warmed up or kept under a heat lamp too long. This also went for the roast potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding which had definitely not been made that day but were decidedly warmed up, left over from a previous day or frozen. The roast potatoes were very tough to cut into, not because they were nice and crispy but because they were rubbery and rather dried out. We left rather disappointed and unusually we were not asked if we enjoyed our meal.

My friends and I visited for breakfast this morning. We were shown to a table with a lovely view out over the valley towards Edensor. We perused the menu and made our choices. Two of our party chose the small breakfast, which it states is “A smaller version of our Full English”. However we were then told that this dish does not include the mushrooms, the black pudding or the hash Browns!!! If this is the case then it should state what it does includes and not that it is “a smaller version of the full English” as it clearly is not. One of our party is lactose intolerant and does not drink tea or coffee, so instead asked for a hot oat milk with a Shot of caramel - which is something that we have never been unable to get elsewhere. However, she was told that this was not possible under normal circumstances, but as the kitchen was not busy they could possible accommodate this today, this drink arrived in a glass and not a cup and saucer and she was asked if she needed a straw!!! Once the meals arrived she also asked for a sunflower or vegan spread and was told that they did not provide these. The bacon was smoked which it does not say on the menu - again not everyone’s choice and I would have preferred plain myself. All in all not the best experience for breakfast I have had and will unfortunately not be paying a further visit, as this was a most disappointing experience.

It’s a popular place, hence state your name/number of diners, then wait in the pre-entry area until called. We waited around 15 minutes in this seated ‘corridor’, but one of the staff occasionally appeared to let us know how it all worked. She couldn’t give us an approximate wait time as they were short of staff, but the fact is, she did communicate with us, which made us feel cared-about. Eventually we were escorted through to a nice clean table in a dining room where tables were comfortably spaced. The large glass windows gave you a great view of the local scenery. I had the Mushroom Gnocchi and my Mother had the Haddock and Chips, all washed down with a couple of teas. The food quality was great, and any staff in the restaurant who we encountered were lovely. It’s a nice place with great food and wonderful staff. Having not visited since Covid, we will certainly return.

My friend and I went today, we have been going here for years and the food was exceptional staff wonderful. Sadly this has all changed. We decided to have the roast dinner which was pork, all we got was a small half slice of carrot underneath the pork which wasn't that great, roasted potatoes which in my opinion were not roast potatoes and left an after taste in your mouth, the only veg we got between 2 of us was a very small bowl of cold green beans over cooked mange tout and hard peas the portion size was small. Our server Lilly was fantastic and we told her about our meal and she said it was under new management as the old one had left, well bring her back I say. She ask if we wanted to see the supervisor but to what end I wonder. Suffices to say we will not be going back which saddens me.

Food was delicious, staff were lovely, attentive and even though it was busy it seemed calm and organised. Our only suggestion was portion size, may I suggest an extra roast potato, stuffing ball, facility to order a side dish, such as cauliflower cheese or leeks in white sauce, mash. Had tea and cake after to fill me up, which was very good, just felt a bit short changed on the dinner. Other lunch varieties looked good that were coming from the kitchen. Beautiful setting and great staff!

We enjoyed a recent trip to the farm shop and cafe. We (all four of us) wanted vegan cakes. There were five to choose from so we decided on one of each: It loses a point for not having any of the vegan bakewell or vegan sponge but the other three were great (sticky toffee pud, almond and pear tart and a chocolate cake) we shared them out between the four of us. Not often we have so much choice!

The food was so disappointing here. Really basic and bland, not tasty at all. I came for breakfast and I was expecting high quality, fresh, local ingredients (as it’s Chatsworth’s “award winning farm shop”) but this wasn’t the case at all. The quality of the food was very average. Almost got the impression that because it’s Chatsworth and the view over the gardens is stunning, the food is secondary. Very disappointing, have much better food at our local Pub. Pie came with a portion of mashed potatoes which would have fed a family of four. Chips with another dish were inedible (they did remove these from our bill when we complained about them). We won’t be going again

We were given the Spring lunch menu, on July 9th?! And the selection was quite disappointing, with very little seasonal produce. My toasted sourdough with tomato and mozzarella was soggy. And the red pepper salad was saved by the extra chicken only. Sitting outside on...

We stopped by for a coffee and cake, and was tempted by the sticky toffee pudding. Ordered a coffee with oat milk and was told that their coffee machine doesn’t work with exotic milks. The food arrived about 40 mins later, nuclear hot and swimming...

I had the full English. £12, drink sold separately. Comes with egg, 3 back , sausage, black pudding, 1/2 tomato, mushrooms, beans and toast. Swapped the black pudding for an extra egg. Very nice, no complaints really, little overpriced. Wife had avocado on toast with...

We have been for breakfast on Saturday mornings quite a few times. It has never been without some disappointment. First of all, the mature waitresses, except the Swedish waitress seem tired as though they would rather be retired. They don’t smile or look happy in...

Friends glowed about the breakfasts and invited us to join them It was extremely disappointing. We had the full breakfast but the fried egg was solid and the toast suitable as a baby's rusk! Felt as if they had been cooked a long time before...

Beautifully decorated with blazing log fires and a welcome to match, this pub is probably the best in the area. Great menu at realistic prices and unsurpassed quality and presentation - what’s not to like. We could not fault anything - thanks to all the staff for a wonderful evening.

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!

Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend
