I have lived in Derbyshire all my life and of course, this is a case of ‘what’s on your doorstep’ you hardly ever consider! My friend arranged for myself and another friend to meet up and discuss all things countryside and veer onto other topics, at a rate of 19 to the dozen - as you do when you have not met up for a while. Walking into this little place was like stepping into a storybook … it has an astonishing atmosphere - I felt I was walking into somewhere I’d been before and it was so wonderful and cozy. We ate … the food was gorgeous and I don’t know who has put four ££££ signs at the top, but I can tell you, it’s not expensive whatsoever. I had a lovely posh toastie, with goat’s cheese, sweet pepper, rocket and tomato chutney and it was delicious … certainly filled a gap (was quite tempered with pudding). What was so nice was the fact that the area we were in was really snug and you had no choice but to say ‘Hello’ to those around you … so if you’re a miserable sod, this isn’t the place for you. I blummin loved it and will definitely go again!

This is an absolutely gorgeous pub. Small, unspoilt, award winning for its unspoiled qualities. There was a roaring log fire when we visited, the landlord was friendly and attentive. Great beer and food was simple but definitely creative. We realised on arrival that we’d visited before, a few years ago. I would urge folks to make a special effort to visit.

Came for a family get together. We had already booked and analysed the menu from the one we were emailed. Some of us have dietary requirements and preferences so when seating we told the waitress. She was very rude and cut us off saying ‘can you let me speak’ as she wanted to give us the menu. However, as we already seen them prior to the visit we just wanted to empathise the importance of our dietary needs as soon as possible and did not need to second check the menu. She was very impatient as we were discussing the dietary needs and made us feel uncomfortable. Considering you pay £45 per person and it suppose to be an experience, it was not enjoyable. The food and bottomless tea choices was lovely and the rest of the team were great. However, the negative at the start ruined the afternoon tea experience for us.

There is nothing I love more than an afternoon tea that ticks all the boxes: ambience, beautiful crockery, quality savoury bites and scones, and of course delicious tea. This afternoon tea delivered! Eating off the beautiful Wedgewood crockery is a real treat, and even better is that the food is so delicious. The knowledge and helpfulness of the staff is wonderful, our server Adele promised that this afternoon tea would wow us, and she did not disappoint. She gave us personalized tea recommendations, which were spot on. Her enthusiasm for her job contributed to a truly special afternoon tea experience. We loved everything about Chatsworth House and the gardens, and this delightful afternoon tea was the perfect complement to an outstanding day out. Highly recommended!

What a lovely afternoon tea, the food was excellent, I really liked the other little touches like the mackerel pate to start and sobet cleanser between sandwiches and cake/scones. The wedgewood tea set was beautiful and staff were warm, friendly and engaging. They couldn’t do enough for you and made great tea recommendations. The restaurant decor was a little tired and it was tucked away from the main house in the stable building overlooking a courtyard.

The staff are exceptional, attentive, efficient and cheerful. The starter of salmon gravalax was all style but minimal substance. The selection of finger sandwiches was excellent with lots of different tastes to tickle the taste buds, but where's the savoury options? A slice of quiche, a duck scotch egg? The tiny sweet offerings were interesting and the scones with strawberry jam and lashings of cream were delicious. Top ups of coffee and tea, as much as you want.Overall a lovely experience, but please consider offering the savoury alternative .

We visited for afternoon tea as a special treat having got married a few days before. We had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent and the afternoon tea itself was lovely. Really unique cake and sandwich options which tasted delicious. They were very accommodating for me as a vegetarian and made special options as opposed to just giving extra egg sandwiches as a lot of places do! The only downside was that we put that it was our honeymoon on the special occasions bit of the booking form. We noticed two other couples being given plates with chocolate work saying congratulations, happy birthday etc (with some extra goodies!) but our special occasion must have been missed. Otherwise it was a perfect experience.

Very expensive for the experience. Was invited by 2 friends for afternoon tea. We arrived at 11:30 nice staff , but that was it. The sandwiches (4 fingers) think it was the day before bread very dry, the scones were a joke and the coffee was from a machine. The salmon to start was nice but a very small portion would have been better if it had been served with a side of crust less brown bread & butter. the finale was the cake that seemed to be days old. £50 p.p. With a class of champagne.I sent an email to Chatsworth customer service, they say they will reply in 5 days....3 weeks later no response.

The scones fruit and plain and served with homemade strawberry Jam and clotted cream. The mini desserts tray was so yummy and well thought out. Chocolate and cherry tart, mango and white chocolate all went well together. Finally was served beautiful shared dessert that I took home. The teas were refreshing. The Flying Childers at Chatsworth is in a lovely setting and the cafe itself is bright, airy and has a high ceiling. The cafe is nothing special though. The tables were appropriately distanced to take account of current circumstances. The service by the waiting staff is very good indeed. The afternoon tea seems to be very popular. There was certainly a wide choice of different teas - many of which we have never heard of. The 'tea' begins with a nicely presented bit of salmon with pickled fennel. See picture of menu. Then follows a small portion of hand cut sandwiches. I was looking forward to the next bit - scones with cream and jam. However, the most disappointing thing of all was the size of the scones - they were mini scones (see picture and we had two each. Next up are the cakes. Once again, these were delicious and the portion was probably just about adequate for two people - and given how many calories they contain. Finally, there is a small piece of Buxton opera cake to finish off with.Whilst it is true to say that what was served was nice and of good quality - but at £37.50 per person - this is really not worth it. Adding a glass of Laurent-Perrier Cuvee Rose comes in at £50.00 per person. The other disappointment is that the savouries and cakes were served at the table on plates - I think the use of a table stand would have enhanced the presentation. Overall, the cost of £75.00 for afternoon tea for two was just not worth the price tag. I think that we were primarily paying for the location.

Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon tea. Arrived a little early, however the staff were able to accommodate us which was good. Great choice of teas and you can try as many as you want. Food excellent. Only minor issue was that we heard the staff telling a couple that came in after us that if there was anything they didn’t like in the menu (the afternoon tea menu is fixed) they would try and change it. We weren’t given this option and my wife would have changed the salmon given the choice. Everything else was great.

It’s a shame really, that my review is similar to so many reviews that date back quite some time. Don’t get me wrong the food was beautifully presented and of course the Chatsworth estate is the perfect surroundings. However the afternoon tea itself was not worth the £37.50. The sandwiches weren’t the best, the odd one being dry and underfilled (no option to replenish the ones we did like, like most other afternoon teas would offer, which is a shame for the price). The options for teas and coffees was very good and as mentioned before it was beautifully presented. The staff also gave a lovely touch by giving one of my group a birthday message in chocolate with a macaron on the side which made the birthday girls day. I had a lovely afternoon with friends but wouldn’t recommend or return.

There are lots of great things about this place. The location (in the stable block at Chatsworth), and its stylish background music. The Wedgwood China was beautiful - three of us ordered tea and we each had a beautiful teapot and a different cup and saucer. We liked the look of the menu - a choice of teas and a brunch or afternoon tea, and for us arriving at lunchtime then brunch was perfect. It was a limited menu, but included oatcakes and eggs Benedict with rosti - enough range to keep our omnivorous teenage son and our vegetarian wheat-intolerant daughter happy.

It’s a nice treat and the food is tasty but for what you get, it’s vastly overpriced. As with many things related to Chatsworth there’s a huge mark up based on it’s name and then added to that there’s the ‘served on Wedgwood pottery’ justification for the price. It’s not really even ‘Afternoon Tea at Chatsworth - let’s face it, once you’re in the restaurant you could be anywhere, with views of a busy courtyard.

Visited this restaurant for the first time for a birthday lunch with a friend. Lovely location with views of Chatsworth courtyard and very professional service. We chose the brunch option rather than the cream tea and the mushrooms on toast with champagne and the Eaton mess we choose for after we’re delicious and well presented on beautiful china. The selection of teas were equally impressive and again served in traditional china. A perfect place for a special lunch!

Had mediocre Panini there before but came back as was back looking at the house . Was told that we are abooked at 2 , all booked at 3 and all booked at 4 . Owners, look at this mess as these lazy dumbsters are losing you money. The place was empty at all above times . Staff did not want to work - it’s crazy . I took these pictures just to prove the point.

What lovely place. So peaceful and refined. Brunch was lovely, with the coffee served in Wedgewood cups. Wonderful.

Have just got back after enjoying a lovely afternoon tea experience, in the great surroundings of Chatsworth House. The staff were very attentive. There was a wide selection of teas. The food was perfect and thank you for accommodating the menu to our dietary needs. We would definitely recommend this as a lovely gift experience.

Delightful surroundings looking onto the courtyard of the stables adjacent to Chatsworth house and with the highest quality Wedgewood cutlery and crockery pleasantly and skilfully served. The menus are presented in a slightly confusing manner on two separate cards of similar appearances that paradoxically do not list everything that is available.

I took my husband here for brunch on his 50th birthday. We both had the Eggs Benedict which was divine. The service was very respectful and efficient. Would highly recommend.

We booked afternoon tea for my mum's birthday and it was definitely a birthday treat! Due to snowy weather we were the only people in, and our waitress Rebecca was lovely, really friendly and attentive. The china is beautiful, and there are lots of different teas and coffees to choose from. The food was lovely, there is a starter as well as a variety of sandwiches, and the cakes were delicious. My mum also got some extra chocolates as it was her birthday which was a lovely surprise! It was a really nice day out, definitely worth it.

Had a fabulous afternoon tea at Flying Childers. As the photos show, the salmon, sandwiches, scones and cakes were outstanding, all served on beautiful Wedgwood crockery. A good selection of teas were available. Service was very polite and efficient and they made it very special for us when they presented a Happy Anniversary sign in chocolate!

Lovely setting with crisp tablecloths overlooking the courtyard on a very busy Christmas Market day. Wedgwood china is a beautiful touch. Gin and tonic smoked salmon was tasty but didn't get any G&T; taste. Quiche and tart were tasty and traditional sandwiches. Cakes and scones were good and a varied selection of tastes and textures. Didn't get Earl Grey flavour in panna cotta. Service was just right. Bit pricey.

Booked a table to celebrate a special birthday having seen the excellent reviews on trip advisor. The setting was lovely, overlooking the court yard & it was nice to go inside on a chilly day.

Great location for a special afternoon tea (my mum's 88th birthday) in the converted stables area. Very friendly service and top quality teas, food and wedgewood china. The traditional tea made up of gin&tonic; salmon, a selection of sandwiches and a traditional tiered plate of macaroons, panna cotta, cherry and raison scones, etc. The place felt relaxed, airy and friendly. What more could you ask?

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
