The best restaurants in Allestree Derby East Midlands

The White Elephant Kitchen did a pop-up at the Shiny Tap, we had the best of everything, good ale and good food, what more do you want on a Friday evening.

What a fabulous little gold mine of a place. Visit most days for a coffee ( if we can get a table) but Saturday nights with entertainment & food Is really good. Well done to everyone involved in the running of this establishment.

The cod fish was the best I have tasted. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The fish bar has very recently been completely refitted.

Superb little place to grab a cuppa and bite,dog friendly with treats. Clean and very reasonable prices. If the Eggy bread is on, get that, really enjoyable. Staff very pleasant. Worth a little bit of an extra walk out of Markeaton.

Decent place and good beers. I found the short haired bar staff sound (doing all the work) but the long haired bar supervisor was unprofessional. She engaged in conversations with regulars about the owner. For example, she spoke about earning a pound more than minimum wage, said the owner smiles but it’s fake and that the owner is thinking about relocating but she need to have a conversation with them about it. She criticised process and also said the owner accursed her of not admitting to their mistakes and of not doing enough and won’t answer her text messages. There was no acceptance of any responsibility. She came across a corrosive force who is out for herself and not a team player or sharing in the vision of the business. She spoke frequently about how hard she works but did absolutely no work in the 1.5 hours that we were there. There were more than 20 people sitting in the bar and hers was the loudest voice. Overall, she seemed very unhappy with the leadership of the business which left a sour taste and in my opinion, this undermines a decent business. P.s - I am a small business owner (brewery and 3 pubs) and I know what a good business looks like and what is needed to make it a success. The criticism she is venting to the customers is unjust. This is a decent business. This level of unprofessionalism will quickly take a business down.

Loved this place, a little gem for me. Found this by accident, but what a gem.

Food was excellent and service attentive will definitely be back

We popped in today after a walk around the nearby park for Mother’s Day. The selection is only ‘to go’ due to ongoing pandemic but food - all freshly prepared to order - was well priced and delicious. No complaints. It would be nice to come back and eat in once life returns to normal.

Visited here for the first time last night. Menu was great, food was lovely and service from all staff was very professional. Would recommend.

I had a fabulous introduction to Birds Cafe in Allestree. I visited the cafe this morning for breakfast with my daughter whilst I waited for my dog to be groomed at The Hound Hut around the corner. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my daughter's needs. They were so thoughtful and nothing was too much, even when some of my requests weren't on the menu. Thank you for such a pleasant experience - we'll definitely be back. The food was great too and the breakfast tea. The cafe is really nice inside, clean and modern with a great selection of bakery products and lots of seating available. There's always a small queue which is a good sign! Parking is ample within a minutes walk, and the doors are big enough to fit a a large pram/wheelchair through. Plus, it's dog friendly too!

We dropped in for beers on Thursday night and Friday night. Thursday was quiet, Friday was very busy. On both occasions staff were prompt helpful and polite. The Pedigree was good. My dog was made very welcome by both the staff & the customers.

Easter Sunday visit with family, all had Sunday dinner and a couple of sweets, with an additional few pints of Ay Up. Service was prompt and as always friendly and the quality of food was excellent..

Superb ! We went as a group of friends and family and was just expecting bog standard pub grub ! But we were very very impressed! We were told there was about a twenty minute wait and we only waited about 15 but it was well worth the wait ! The food was excellent greatly presented , almost above the standard of pub grub in my opinion , whoever was in the kitchen clearly knew their stuff but it was also really tasty almost like home coked good quality food I should have took pictures but forgot and the deserts were as good , we will be back and I’d even be tempted to book my birthday there if that’s something they do ! Drinks served up well and all staff really polite but seriously though the food was the best thing about the place and I’m glad we found you ! Please pass on our gratitude to the chef and their team they run a great restaurant ! Oh also one last thing the restaurant is well presented and lovely and clean especially the bathrooms

When we come up to Derby we always have these fish and chips but this time it was very poor 23 rd of April 2025 ☹️

Their food is fine and tasty, but its very strange that their Credit Card machine is always down and out of use ! So cash payment only.
