Great place for a drink post workout. Big shout out to all the staff behind the bar on a Wednesday evening.

Excellent, friendly service and a warm atmosphere. Recently had a refurbishment too.

Met friends 4 drink very busy food looked good will try next time.

Came here for Sunday lunch. The pub was relatively busy inside so I would recommend booking if you have a large party. The staff seemed quite stressed and flustered, and forgot to give us cutlery. When they did, they just dumped it in the middle of the table. I don’t know if that’s how they do it there but I expected slightly better service than that. They were all very friendly but obviously very busy and evidently understaffed. The food was quite average. I got the lasagne which was fine but nothing to write home about. I don’t think I’d come here again.

The place has been freshly refurbished. It was average before the refurb. It’s now really really average. Food is average. Atmosphere is average. If you want an average evening out, this is your place.

Went with a friend for lunch 24 feb 25. The staff were great,very welcoming. Food was very good. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is cosy and welcoming. Would definitely dine here again and would recommend to family and friends.

Your burgers are rubbish, poor quality and taste.

Such a lovely pub, I love the homely atmosphere, and it’s always nice when the staff give it that personal touch, we were served by one of the management, Anna, and you can tell that they care how about your visit, whilst it’s cold outside go there and warm up, and to be fair the beer garden looks great, so when it’s hot i’ll be going back to give that a go

Menu was okay but the dining area were we sat was quite cold.

Susie our waitress was friendly and attentive The Sunday roast was one of the best I've had

My food took more than an hour to come

Was in here yesterday afternoon poor service with lots of time waiting. A lot of the time only one barman occasionally a bar lady would assist. Slow delivering food as well can do better in my opinion. Food was good though with was nice.

I want to say I have been here a few times but tonight was awful! There was no food which when I phoned today there was food available if it wasn’t for the dj tonight I would have left a lot earlier must say that dj needs praise he saved tonight!

A disappointing Christmas Experience Christmas food was very ordinary and mass produced and it felt like it had been prepared well in advance. Starters were very disappointing, main course was acceptable. Desert was lovely. Service was friendly and responsive but there were too few bar staff at the busiest time of the day. Overall I would say the experience was not value for money and food had at other visits was far better and value for money

Went for Christmas Dinner 9 of us 2024 2.30 sitting .Turns out we were the only one and felt like the food was past it's best left over from the early sitting Luke warm and over cooked didn't complain as the pub was busy .Felt as if the drinkers were the priority not the dinners first family chrismas Dinner out and probably won't risk another no atmosphere and the dining area was cold .

Decent spacious sized pub with plenty on tap and decent food. Wait times vary but not usually too long.

My wife and I decided to go to the Markeaton Pub to enjoy the night. We were impressed by the wonderful view that the place offers. The atmosphere is cozy and lively with beautiful people. The service was impeccable, the waiters were friendly and quick. The food was divine, we ordered some appetizers and some meat that were mouth-watering. It was an incredible experience, I highly recommend this pub to anyone who wants to have fun and relax.

Everything was delicious and the waitress was so nice. The atmosphere was brilliant and i felt at home. I would give this a rating of 6 out of 5 but sadly i can only give 5. Keep it up markeaton I'm looking forward to eating with you again!!

Great Sunday dinner Service good Good value

I've been a regular visitor to the Markeaton pub and, can honestly say it's always been a pleasure with a great relaxed atmosphere with great food, staff and friendly service all round with Simon the landlord at the helm. Highly recommend a visit, you won't be disappointed.

My wife's salad had onion in (not mentioned in the description), my daughter's sausages were absolutely tiny. My steak was supposed to be medium rare, but instead was burnt on one side and raw on the other. Neither of my kids enjoyed their puddings. First and last visit.

Delicious food for a good price. Lovely, friendly ambience in the pub. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Great place for just a drink too.

Excellent pub with a great Manager Simon along with a great team of staff, always a pleasure and I visit as often as possible,. I'd recommend that you pay a visit and I'm sure you won't be disappointed 👍

Great pub for an after work meal service good and foods ok

Called in today (Sunday) with other family members (just 3 of us) for a quick lunch. The intention was sandwiches which unfortunately are not available on the Sunday menu. I therefore chose the Hand carved gammon from the Sunday roast menu. It didn't seem particularly busy in the pub but the wait was about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The quantity of food on the plate was acceptable except for a single tiny slice of gammon. I queried this with the server who returned with an additional slice. Surely its not standard for such a small amount of meat? The food was okay & that of my family too but I'm unlikely to return any time soon.

Large pub with a nice atmosphere. They usually have some good beers apart from the standard Pedigree and Bass. London Pride, Ghost Ship, Dark Star etc. Have all made appearances. Usually kept well

Simon, the best mein host and his team run a great pub. Friendly and welcoming. Good quiz nights and great atmosphere.

Lovely pub and can get busy, sometimes a bit quiet but who cares. Quizzes Tuesday and Thursday which is fun for everyone.

We were contacted by Izzy from the pub earlier to tell us there would be a reduced menu as the chef was poorly. However, George the under chef was great, we enjoyed our pub favorites and the deserts were splendid. Customer service from Izzy and staff was great. Thank you.

Excellent food - beef lasagne was delicious Serve a good pint of lager, and pinot grigio and lemonade was lovely Lively atmosphere but quiet enough to chat Comfortable seating, well spaced out

Excellent quality real ale and the food was very good and good value. The staff were very good too. The pub itself is looking a bit tired and could do with a bit of a refresh.

I just popped into the Markeaton on my way home from work and decided to try the Sunday lunch, wow just wow, the beef rib is amazing and proper roast potatoes too, will be bringing the family next week

Great place for food and drink. Good atmosphere. Great garden in the summer with loads of space for kids. New menu is good and the steak night on a Thursday and curry night Friday are great value. Simon the landlord is on the ball and always accommodating. Keep up the good work.

My wife and I came in for a few drinks and ended up staying for the quiz, apparently the previous week someone had won over £300 on the game after the quiz, will be back every Thursday to try and win some cash

Worst in service. Took more than an hour to serve a bowl of chips and soup. Felt like they hand picked the potatoes for every order and then fried

Nice location and pub. Food was OK but food we wanted wasn't available. Apparently quite a regular occurance according to locals sat next to us . Maybe been a one off but not enough bar staff. Very reasonable prices and good range of beer.

The food was mediocre and not particularly good value for money. A pity, we quite like the atmosphere. The service was good and the staff were very pleasant.

Very disappointing experience. Booked a table for 1300 for Sunday lunch. Ordered drinks & food at the table via the app. Took about 20 mins for the starters to arrive but no sign of our drinks. Member of staff explained that the drinks ticket had got lost! After waiting a further 30 mins, there was still no sign of our main courses. Was advised it was going to be another 10 mins. Whilst waiting, the table next to us had their main courses served but without roast potatoes & sides. These came out in several batches over the next 5/10 mins! Our main courses finally arrived, but we were missing the bacon wrapped stuffing & the quality of the food was poor. Very small amounts of fatty meat and overcooked vegetables. Clearly, there were huge problems in the kitchen. The poor serving staff were run ragged & constantly apologising to customers. If it wasn't for the fact that our meal had already been paid for via the app, we would have walked out. Will not be returning any time soon.

Food took double the 45 minute wait advised and was served missing items advertised on the menu (half chicken served as just a chicken leg and 3 meals missing bacon wrapped stuffing, also portions of meat were below size. Drinks ordered at the bar we were advised would be brought over but were forgotten about. Deserts also took 40 minutes but were very nice but small portion of ice cream. Wouldn't recommend eating at this venue.

This is the best pub I’ve been to in derby. The staff are all great and the beer is good. I wish there were more days in the week as I would go more.

Lovely staff , nice garden . I like the manager he’s a nice guy . Overpriced depressing food that frequently comes out lacking an item or two due to ‘ running out ‘ … if you can’t make the dish take it off the menu , don’t leave items out hoping that your customers won’t notice . I will return ever hopeful .

Simon and his team gave us, as usual, fabulous service. The drinks were great and the food was amazing. Everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks Simon.

I like the Markeaton, the staff mostly are quite nice. The food is ok we had a wrap and the actual wrap was a bit thick. You get a lot of filling tho' .. too much to roll it up and it comes with skin on fries or side salad.

We ordered fish n chips , burger n chips and a rump steak. Looked good and tasted amazing , served quickly and with a smile by the lovely friendly staff. Was a nice atmosphere and very clean. Thank you for your hospitality.

It is what it is.. Don't expect top food or top service its cheap and functional.. I personally wouldn't eat there again.. not fir any other reason as its not my sort of food..

Building is nice. Staff are useless morons who can't get orders right and are too stupid to rectify it when they get it wrong.

Have you changed the chef. Very disappointed with my meal. It wasnt up to the usual standard this week

Nice place with great staff and Landlord . The food is good and at a fair price as well. A fantastic garden with loads of room for the kids. Would recommend to anyone.

Excellent pub with good decent food. We don’t live nearby but we found it while travelling and we needed somewhere for lunch. Much much better than any service station. Would recommend.

A good local pub, in need of some TLC. Typical deep fried pub grub. Toilets upstairs.

02/5/24 Still good value for money for food. Ample parking. Nice polite staff. Problem with online booking,had to call in to book a table.

Food was ok but one of the staff was surly and obviously didn't want to be serving members of the public. They need to understand that treating customers with courtesy and a smile is the absolute minimum.

A nice park to spend quality time

Plentiful portion of well cooked tasty food. The kitchen grill was out of action which limited the choice but there were enough options on the menu. Polite, friendly and helpful staff.

We didn't have food , but was a lovely pub we could eat there at some point as it was very comfortable.

It's lovely to have a table near to the fire. The Markeaton is a very cosy place. The food was delicious which it usually is and not expensive.

A great late lunch. Tempted on this occasion by birthday offer on my E Mail. Spacious - nice atmosphere. Lots of different areas to sit. Good service by a friendly team. Excellent Hunters Chicken and Rump Steak.

Pub cosy with. Fires but not many in early on a Monday to be expected, typical pub meal pleasant staff.

Table top was wobbly, sticky and not clean. We were put on a table with very low light, needed phone torch to read the menu. Had fish and chips were OK, but nothing special and not very well presented.

Excellent and polite service but I ordered seabass and it was lacking in vegetables, except potatoes and the asparagus was stringy.

Wow the food was awful. The so called posh fish and chips was two small, very sorry looking pieces of fish with cheap oven chips. The scampi was bullets of batter.

Great pub. Great cask ale choices. Great atmosphere. Good food. I think my meal was let down purely by the small amount of potato. Chicken and Portobello mushroom pie was beautiful.

Food a bit overdone/burnt, service ok no better than any other pub. Its a bit hit and miss, previous visits have been better.

Wheelchair access from the car park needs improvement. Everything else is great

Everything was good. Warm and welcoming on arrival and comfortable seating and decor. Drinks were reasonably priced as was the food. We had the 2 course lunch menu, fishcakes chips peas and ham egg chips with warm waffles for dessert. All the food was great, the waffles were really delicious. The waiter was excellent, friendly and efficient. We left feeling really full and will definitely return.

Usual pub fayre, not particularly expensive. A good selection of drinks. Quiz nights on Tuesday and Thursday, live music occasionally. Clean toilets. Log fire in winter. A nice place to pop in for a drink or a meal.

Decent food a chain pub usual type of meals, and coffee served with a smartie was a nice twist. Just needs a bit of dusting and a bit of tlc around the walls, but still well worth a visit.
