Lovely quiet afternoon nice food glass of real ale sat in the garden

I just popped into the Markeaton on my way home from work and decided to try the Sunday lunch, wow just wow, the beef rib is amazing and proper roast potatoes too, will be bringing the family next week

Great place for food and drink. Good atmosphere. Great garden in the summer with loads of space for kids. New menu is good and the steak night on a Thursday and curry night Friday are great value. Simon the landlord is on the ball and always accommodating. Keep up the good work.

My wife and I came in for a few drinks and ended up staying for the quiz, apparently the previous week someone had won over £300 on the game after the quiz, will be back every Thursday to try and win some cash

I’ve not been here for a while, food was great and so was the service, I will be back again soon, the new menu now has hallumi fries

We were contacted by Izzy from the pub earlier to tell us there would be a reduced menu as the chef was poorly. However, George the under chef was great, we enjoyed our pub favorites and the deserts were splendid. Customer service from Izzy and staff was great. Thank you.

Been going to this pub for years...great beers and choice lovely food and a great welcoming atmosphere...

Nice location and pub. Food was OK but food we wanted wasn't available. Apparently quite a regular occurance according to locals sat next to us . Maybe been a one off but not enough bar staff. Very reasonable prices and good range of beer.

Good food , very friendly helpful staff.

The food was mediocre and not particularly good value for money. A pity, we quite like the atmosphere. The service was good and the staff were very pleasant.

Very disappointing experience. Booked a table for 1300 for Sunday lunch. Ordered drinks & food at the table via the app. Took about 20 mins for the starters to arrive but no sign of our drinks. Member of staff explained that the drinks ticket had got lost! After waiting a further 30 mins, there was still no sign of our main courses. Was advised it was going to be another 10 mins. Whilst waiting, the table next to us had their main courses served but without roast potatoes & sides. These came out in several batches over the next 5/10 mins! Our main courses finally arrived, but we were missing the bacon wrapped stuffing & the quality of the food was poor. Very small amounts of fatty meat and overcooked vegetables. Clearly, there were huge problems in the kitchen. The poor serving staff were run ragged & constantly apologising to customers. If it wasn't for the fact that our meal had already been paid for via the app, we would have walked out. Will not be returning any time soon.

Food took double the 45 minute wait advised and was served missing items advertised on the menu (half chicken served as just a chicken leg and 3 meals missing bacon wrapped stuffing, also portions of meat were below size. Drinks ordered at the bar we were advised would be brought over but were forgotten about. Deserts also took 40 minutes but were very nice but small portion of ice cream. Wouldn't recommend eating at this venue.

This is the best pub I’ve been to in derby. The staff are all great and the beer is good. I wish there were more days in the week as I would go more.

Lovely staff , nice garden . I like the manager he’s a nice guy . Overpriced depressing food that frequently comes out lacking an item or two due to ‘ running out ‘ … if you can’t make the dish take it off the menu , don’t leave items out hoping that your customers won’t notice . I will return ever hopeful .

Simon and his team gave us, as usual, fabulous service. The drinks were great and the food was amazing. Everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks Simon.

I like the Markeaton, the staff mostly are quite nice. The food is ok we had a wrap and the actual wrap was a bit thick. You get a lot of filling tho' .. too much to roll it up and it comes with skin on fries or side salad.

Excellent private room for an afternoon funeral sandwich and coffee, pre-booked. Amazing amount of food.

We ordered fish n chips , burger n chips and a rump steak. Looked good and tasted amazing , served quickly and with a smile by the lovely friendly staff. Was a nice atmosphere and very clean. Thank you for your hospitality.

Great staff and landlord. The food is good and reasonable prices. Has a large beer garden so good for families. Definitely recommend

It is what it is.. Don't expect top food or top service its cheap and functional.. I personally wouldn't eat there again.. not fir any other reason as its not my sort of food..

Building is nice. Staff are useless morons who can't get orders right and are too stupid to rectify it when they get it wrong.

Have you changed the chef. Very disappointed with my meal. It wasnt up to the usual standard this week

Nice place with great staff and Landlord . The food is good and at a fair price as well. A fantastic garden with loads of room for the kids. Would recommend to anyone.

Excellent pub with good decent food. We don’t live nearby but we found it while travelling and we needed somewhere for lunch. Much much better than any service station. Would recommend.

A good local pub, in need of some TLC. Typical deep fried pub grub. Toilets upstairs.

02/5/24 Still good value for money for food. Ample parking. Nice polite staff. Problem with online booking,had to call in to book a table.

Food was ok but one of the staff was surly and obviously didn't want to be serving members of the public. They need to understand that treating customers with courtesy and a smile is the absolute minimum.

A nice park to spend quality time

Plentiful portion of well cooked tasty food. The kitchen grill was out of action which limited the choice but there were enough options on the menu. Polite, friendly and helpful staff.

We didn't have food , but was a lovely pub we could eat there at some point as it was very comfortable.

It's lovely to have a table near to the fire. The Markeaton is a very cosy place. The food was delicious which it usually is and not expensive.

A great late lunch. Tempted on this occasion by birthday offer on my E Mail. Spacious - nice atmosphere. Lots of different areas to sit. Good service by a friendly team. Excellent Hunters Chicken and Rump Steak.

Pub cosy with. Fires but not many in early on a Monday to be expected, typical pub meal pleasant staff.

Table top was wobbly, sticky and not clean. We were put on a table with very low light, needed phone torch to read the menu. Had fish and chips were OK, but nothing special and not very well presented.

Excellent and polite service but I ordered seabass and it was lacking in vegetables, except potatoes and the asparagus was stringy.

Wow the food was awful. The so called posh fish and chips was two small, very sorry looking pieces of fish with cheap oven chips. The scampi was bullets of batter.

Great pub. Great cask ale choices. Great atmosphere. Good food. I think my meal was let down purely by the small amount of potato. Chicken and Portobello mushroom pie was beautiful.

Food a bit overdone/burnt, service ok no better than any other pub. Its a bit hit and miss, previous visits have been better.

Wheelchair access from the car park needs improvement. Everything else is great

Did n't have the food so I can't comment on that but service at the bar was very good and the ambience was great! Be aware the toilets are upstairs!

Everything was good. Warm and welcoming on arrival and comfortable seating and decor. Drinks were reasonably priced as was the food. We had the 2 course lunch menu, fishcakes chips peas and ham egg chips with warm waffles for dessert. All the food was great, the waffles were really delicious. The waiter was excellent, friendly and efficient. We left feeling really full and will definitely return.

Usual pub fayre, not particularly expensive. A good selection of drinks. Quiz nights on Tuesday and Thursday, live music occasionally. Clean toilets. Log fire in winter. A nice place to pop in for a drink or a meal.

Decent food a chain pub usual type of meals, and coffee served with a smartie was a nice twist. Just needs a bit of dusting and a bit of tlc around the walls, but still well worth a visit.

We turned up as a fairly big family group on the off chance , quite a few of us had food , which was lovely , service was great , friendly staff , good prices

Attentive friendly staff and bright clean and tidy place let down a bit by rather dried up food, as if it had been left under the heat lamps too long.

Although food came quickly one of the meals was late as it had to be redone would have been better to wait and serve all at once.

Popped in here for nibbles with the duchess of Burton and baroness okerthorpe

Food is reasonably priced but could have done with being warmer. Plenty of parking. Will visit again when in the area.

Sea Bass portions were very small and too many potatoes on the plate and only two pieces of asparagus . Another vegetable would have been nice instead of bulking the plate out with so many potatoes . Sea Bass is a light meal !

My wife and I decided to go to the Markeaton Pub to enjoy the night. We were impressed by the wonderful view that the place offers. The atmosphere is cozy and lively with beautiful people. The service was impeccable, the waiters were friendly and quick. The food was divine, we ordered some appetizers and some meat that were mouth-watering. It was an incredible experience, I highly recommend this pub to anyone who wants to have fun and relax.

Bar staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Food lovely, vast choice available will have to return to try something else. Convenient halfway point between my house and my friend’s house hence the dinner

To give cutlery out with the meal as delay in being able to eat the food. Listen to the customer when they want a change to their order. Friend had unfinished drink removed whilst ordering pudding.

Weekend Breakfasts are a must Absolutely love the food

Always had a good welcome here, prompt service and classic good pub food at sensible prices. I've moved away from the area but still return when I can.

Landlord and staff were great as usual, lovely food and catered for gluten free.

Expensive and the food was rubbish

A lovely pub with really great portion sizes. My partner ordered two starters which was more than enough. There is a designated adorable area for digs with treats and signs which is a great idea. Lots of private tables too. You have to climb quite a few stairs to get to the bathroom but toilets nice and clean. Staff are attentive...they bought me extra gravy for my roast and let me order a smaller portion as I can never manage the larger sizes.

Saturday lunch for 4. Excellent food as always. 1 lasagne, 1 sausage and mash, 1 full breakfast, 1 child's chicken strips meal. Meals enjoyed by all. Desserts and drinks also very good. Staff friendly and helpful.

Rowdy family in the garden area shouting and yawping at there dogs . You don't really need it on a nice Sunday afternoon

The posh fish finger sandwich was good, as was the coffee. The addition of smarties in the saucer is a lovely idea. The service couldn't be faulted.

Staff are nice, parking is ok. Large garden with plenty of cover if the rain suddenly comes to get you. Prices are reasonable 👍

May not be a chic stainless steel pub, but I thought it was brilliant. The staff were friendly and looked after us with our meals and drinks. Breath of fresh air to be treated like they wanted your custom its a forgotten art these days. Food was good with a diverse selection and a selection of different ales All in al,l I would recommend this place and wish it was my local.

Not the most interesting range of beers with the standard Pedigree and Bass but they also have Hophead from Dark Star and another light draught ale so certainly enough choice and generally kept well.

We had a delicious salad with chips on the side! Perfect for a summer's day. The waiter was excellent and looked after us very well.

Food was excellent, good service and sensible prices. A few people were a bit inconsiderate they were doing a conference call on their laptops which was very loud.

Food was very good and came hot too considering there was 10 of us and all together good atmosphere, out with friends. Would definitely recommend to friends
