There are a few pubs near the station, this is the best. The best kept ale and the best service compared to the others on the same vicinity. Nothing spectacular but a proper boozer , good ale, good snacks , darts and dominoes. What more do you need?

Traditional pub (& hotel) with an uncommonly large selection of rotating cask ales, real ales. Fairly typical, simple but comfortable-enough interior, competent staff, neighbourhood atmosphere (unlike at the rowdier, nearby The Brunswick). This place has a good reputation among Derby real ale drinkers, and it's conveniently located close to Derby Midland Station - and thus, a 10 minute walk from the city centre. Open till late. Had some fairly good ales there, including a relatively rare can of Thornbridge Chaipur, not to be confused with Jaipur. Moderate prices.

My twin brother Stephen and I had just been in The Brunswick Inn and sampled some great beers in a fantastic pub and it was so good to find another pub only a couple of minutes away from The Brunswick Inn but that also serves great real ales namely The Alexandra Pub. This certainly is one cool looking pub,the interior is awesome ,decor and features reflect Derby's proud railway history with all manner of bric a brac adorning the walls and ceilings pertaining to the railway industry, there's also a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, it's just one really good pub. We were here on a Thursday afternoon, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff, after a quick study of the real ales on offer I opted to have Magpie Brewery " dragons lair " while my brother opted to have Castle Rock Brewery " harvest pale ale " both these real ales were served in pristine condition, we got a nice positioned table near the serving bar were we just chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My real ale was an exceptional brew,a really well balanced and full bodied real ale bursting with taste, very easy to drink,a real ale style I am particularly fond of as I have a tendency to opt for real ales brewed by Magpie Brewery as I find their range of real ales very tasty and innovative, my twin brother also gave the thumbs up to his real ale. We both really enjoyed not just our real ales in this pub but the welcoming nature of not just the staff but of the patrons who frequent this pub,we had a great time before we moved on and for a first time visiting the wonderful pub. The Alexandra Hotel Pub is easy to locate on Siddals Road,it's not to far from Derby Train Station. A great pub, well worth checking out if your in the area.

Me and some friends regularly meet here when we are in Derby. It was introduced to me by a friend who worked on the railways who came here regularly after a hard days work. It has a great connection to the local railway station and a lot of train themes running through the pub with a part of a train even in the beer garden. Aside from that the staff are excellent and very knowledgeable of their beers. The Gwynt Y Ddraig cider served here is definitely my personal favourite of mine but there is a very wide range of ales, porters and continental beers on offer too as well as a wide range of snacks (watch out for the Scorpion chilli chocolate mind). There is always something going on here too with posters for themed events on the wall all the time however I haven't made it to one yet. The place is friendly and full of rail memorabilia and a much better place for me than the trendy Brunswick around the corner. I met an old friend at this pub in Derby. They chose it for the ease of being able to park in a car park. However, they did forget to tell me that a train engine takes up the top right hand side of the car park, which isn't very big to start with (will park about 6 cars). The pub inside reminded me of when I was a little girl, with a lounge area and a tap room. Very 70s feel to it. Staff have been great, with a bit of banter too. There is a outdoor area at the back which isn't very big but does have a patio table. One of the best bits is that is a five min walk to the train station, which is a bonus too.

I visited this pub yesterday for a catch up with an old friend. I don't know Derby well but found this pub close to the railway station. On first impressions it looked very uninviting due to the location and the very small car park that holds about 6 cars at a push due to the big locomotive in the top right hand side of the car park, so i struggled to get parked. However, on entering the pub, i felt like i had gone back to the 1970's. It was full of wall decorations and different beers advertised. I thought it was amazing, small but amazing. It was like the tap rooms which i grew up with. The young lad behind the bar was lovely, very pleasant and friendly. He is a real credit to the place. That may sound like a bit of an odd title but it is well deserved. We have been going into the Alex for years and under 2 previous landlords. Like many old fashioned City Pubs it was going slowly nowhere except downhill into Pub oblivion. Then Ralph and Anna took it on, it got a lick of paint, a refocus on quality and a huge dollop of old fashioned hard work. The 2 of them know Beer and how to keep it and the customers well settled and happy together. There is no hot food (except on speciality days), cobs, Pork Pie and the best Scotch Eggs going. There is just a simple focus on doing a few things but doing them all rather well. Even the Crisps, Nuts and soft drinks tend to be high end quality products.I should warn you it is near the Station and Ralph has a taste for Trains, which is confined to 1 bar ! Last year it was Derby CAMRA pub of the year and is now busily re invigorating itself to be so again next year !

On entering the bar there was a bad smell ,whether or not it was from the clientele or the premises still unsure ,the beer is O.K though ,so if your into real ales and don't mind mixing with train enthusiast , ( there's the front end of a Deltic diesel in the car park ,whats all that about ? ) and not put off by strange odours ,you would probably enjoy the pub.

This friendly pub has an excellent range of beer that is well-kept. Just round the corner from the renowned Brunswick the Alexandra Hotel offers a choice between what would once have been a public bar, full of railway memorabilia, and a comfortable well-decorated lounge bar. My visit to the latter was enhanced by the sight of a rabbit, behind a fenced off area, playing football. This was not some drunken delusion and I kid you not. Whether the indoor rabbit is a permanent feature, I do not know. I do know that this pub is well worth a visit. Visit on a Monday and you eve get the Tynemill card offer of one free beer for every eight drank after only seven.

Dreamboat Stars was excellent. Could have done without the question and answer session, and a bit more singing, especially some older musicals.

There was only one poor girl serving everyone but she did a good job. The roll we had was tasteless with hardly any filling, no butter or sauce/mayonnaise but the bread was good. No salt and pepper a
