It was in 1979 as a 18yr old I and the youth of the day use to call into this wonderful propper café. The days of Anti pasti the punk band of derby who use to hang out on old derby Market place along with all the other people who use to call and eat or just drink the really good coffee and tea that use to be served here . I became homeless at around 20 yrs of age and every Thursday for reasons I'm still not sure of I use to always call into the Acropolis for either breakfast or a really hearty afternoon meal . It is such a shame to hear that the place has closed down. Another sad blow to derby I am sad to say . I can honestly say that the my memories of the place and the staff who worked there is one of gratefulness. The place literally kept me alive at a very dark period of my life . The food was brilliant and plentiful. Not sure if anyone who owned the place back then or who worked there back in the late 70s will read this but the Acropolis cafe saved my life . Sounds a bit odd I know but trust me to be able to have a lovely hot meal at affordable prices and a hot drink saved my life . Thank you all at Acropolis. That café has always always and will always hold a special place in my Heart 💙 . Such a loss . Thank you Barry . Xx

This is situated in the market place in Derby. We sat outside for a morning coffee and relaxed, taking in the view. It's the first time we'd visited. The had a menu full of reasonably priced food which several people were enjoying whilst we were there.

Ok breakfast but others preferred based on our experiences over our weekend break. Other reviews suggest we might just have visited on an unrepresentative day.

The Acropolis is one of those places that I just keep going back to. Whether it's a hearty "Full English", a propper cottage pie or just coffee & cake it's always great. Whenever someone says let go for Breckie at the Acropolis, it's always meet with smiles & an increase in speed, so forget the big boys, stick local & buy British, your tummy will thank you for it :D

On a day out in Derby we got take away tea and hot chocolate so we could eat our own packed lunch in the square opposite the cafe. Really friendly and helpful staff who made our orders exactly as we asked. Good prices too. Lots of choice of meals, which looked interesting, I will come back to eat here another time, lots of choice for vegetarians.

Ignore the tatty ambience, this is the best cooked and best value home style cooking I've eaten in a long time - what you get for your money is sensational. Cut-with-a-fork and melt in the mouth braised steak in rich gravy came with mash, carrots, peas and cabbage that had even this cabbage hater shovelling it in, and a friend's lasagna came with salad, chips, and veg - all for £ 12.20. We couldn't finish our lunch but that's no reflection at all on the cooking.

My wife & I had the Full English Breakfast here twice over the weekend as it's handy for the Premier Inn across the road. A bit of a time warp when you go in as the decor is a little dated, but to me that's part of the charm of the place. A great breakfast was served on both occasions & was nice to see that they do pensioners lunches for a fiver !!!

This very friendly basic café serves traditional food with a smile. The portions are generous, the quality is good (no greasy chips here!) and the value for money exceptional. I had the pensioners breakfast of sausage, 2 bacon, egg, beans, mushrooms (real, not canned!) toast and coffee for £4.99 and it came with a pudding of sponge and custard! We went back for lunch and had a very nice home-made quiche, fresh salad and chips plus pudding plus coffee, again for £4.99. We will definitely go back.

Okay, the decor is out of date and in need of a refurb, you will end up smelling of fried food BUT you really cannot complain at £1.50 for a breakfast cob if ordered before 11.30 - that includes 2 fillings and the cob is really big! Staff are friendly and will bring your order to your table. Would recommend for cheap meal

Called in for breakfast at the Acropilis cafe during our stay in Derby, place is clean but badly in need of an update as it looks very hungry 80's, breakfast was ok apart from the poor quality sausages that let it down. Didn't return during our stay as there are much better breakfasts available in the city centre that only cost a little bit more but are far better quality. On the plus side the staff were very friendly.

Called in on bank hol mond ay. It was quite busy. Coffee served in standard cup but was quite nice. U go up to the counter to order. The lady was pleasant. There seems to be a good selection of pensioner meals and reasonable for £5.50 it could maybe do with a revamp on well worn seats but for us it served our purpose well. Would go back.

This Derby cafe on the market place is in the Cathedral Quarter. The food is home cooked to order and the portions huge. Very tasty and quite an extensive menu to suit most peoples tastes. I wouldn't dare tackle a big breakfast. What is really amazing is what is on offer for senior citizens; a smaller portion of the main meals, bread and butter, pudding and a cup of tea all for £4.99 - amazing. The staff are very friendly and will accommodate your choices to the best of their ability. Don't be put off by the appearance of the place, it is clean but with some tired furnishings. If you want a substantial meal at a very reasonable price this is the place to go, forget about the chain restaurants and support individuality and independent retailers.

My husband and I called in to the Acropilis one morning for a cooked breakfast and although the staff are pleasent enough and the breakfasts are huge the whole place needs a complete overall and the fried bread i requested with my breakfast tasted awful and I had to leave and I fell it must have been the oil it was cooked in and then a couple of tables down th male owner was doing an interview for staff which i felt a little embarresed for the lady being interviewed and we also felt awkward.

I go here often as it's lovely and quiet and the food is very nice. It has one tiny toilet near the seats which isn't the best but the café has been there for years and years and years. It's value for money and they have the best chips and sausage cobs.

I visit this cafe fairly regularly. Food average, convenient within the town centre.Non-expensive food, though not if you're 'into' healthy eating. A little bit concerned about the hygiene. Often cold especially in winter. Could do with maintenance within the toilets, have complained but nothing ever gets done about it.However it remains very popular with the Derby residents! Suits many people who haven't get a lot to spend on meals out.

Cafe is clean but unfortunately it is living in the past, school type counter serving area and table and chairs which have seen better day's not inviting at all. But after saying that the cafe was quite busy so it must be doing somthing right. The breakfast was not the worst I have had, it looked and tasted okay, it was cooked/served as your ordered it rather than the food sitting in dishes and it was a very reasonable price. Service from staff was pleasent and okay with tables cleared in good time.

With a view of Derby's central Market Square, in the optimistically titled "Cathedral Quarter", visitors will be surprised to find such good value grub. The same family have run it since 1976 and they're obviously in it for the long haul attracting the repeat customers in there when we visited. There is an extensive range of cooked to order food on the specials menu including all day breakfasts, as demanded by cafe culture in England. These breakfasts please both in quality and quantity and the vegetarian breakfast is an epic repast of monumental proportions, featuring sausages, eggs, hash browns, tomatoes, fried bread etc to set you up for the day.

Visited last night on a whim and had a bit of a wait because the place was full. Once seated the staff were very attentive ensuring our drinks came quickly and clearing our plates. Each time with a smile and checking we were happy. There was a huge choice of dishes and they were kept well stocked. There's nothing worse than wanting a particular dish for it to have run out and not restocked and that didn't happen. There is no shortage of what I would call the premium dishes, such as lamb and king prawns and everything was high quality. We have visited several times and despite eating many dishes, I still haven't managed to try half of them. Place seems very well run with plenty of staff all working hard.

Surprised there aren't more reviews for this 'proper' cafe. Lots of simple, but filling choices - the usuals on toast, chip cobs, sandwiches, full meals etc - for excellent value prices. Fed 2 hungry kids and myself with drinks with change from £10 - try and do that elsewhere! Service was efficient, food arrived quickly. It tasted great and with good portion sizes. Just what was required!
