The Royal Raj in Derby

We came to you on Christmas Day. We got there earlier than booked in, due to our circumstances and we were happy to grab a drink and wait at the bar. OMG... what an amazing Christmas Day this was. Our food was amazing and out of this world! Well done to the staff, nothing was too much trouble. And..... Christmas Pudding to complete our day. A BIG thank you to the Royal Raj for making our Christmas Day A....ma....zing!

Immense takeaway! Sublime flavours and timing impeccable. Highly recommend. My wife and I ordered medium hot dishes and weren’t left disappointed. Delicious succulent meat with a kick that left a satisfying taste in the mouth.

100% consistently amazing tandoori chicken, best I’ve ever tasted anywhere.. travelled and been lots of tandoori spots, this one is genuinely the best!! The Raj Allestree is a long standing authentic restaurant with great staff and high quality food. Over 20 years in Allestree serving high standard Indian cuisine.. we really appreciate your efforts, long may it continue.

I do recommend this restaurant but sadly on this occasion it wasn't to my satisfaction so I'm giving takeaways a rest.

Reviewing on delivery. Used around half a dozen times now for delivery. Service is exceptional, food always hot and delivered by a proper dapper bloke with a smile as big as the sun. He always brings a smile to my face, top man. Food is exceptional as well, going through the menu and a distinct difference with the dishes, unlike many other places that use the same base sauce and screw the dish up with unnecessary spices. A total joy to eat. Highly recommend The Royal Raj. Well done team. 10/10

These guys get better and better. The standard of the food and prices is by far the best in Derby. I’ve tried pretty much every well known restaurant and was brought up eating curries in the 80’s when the full moon and the palace were worth visiting Normanton for for a food night out. Keep doing what you do and fly the flag for Allestree. Faultless , thanks guys

Went tonight with my friends for a dinner date and omg what an amazing service and food we had. 🥘 From their delicious hot cheese naan 🫓 to their scrumptious biryani & beautiful tandoori prawns 🍤 everything was so on point 🤌🤌🤌 Highly recommend this place xx

Love this restaurant in the centre of Park Farm Shopping Centre, really delicious food cooked to perfection, great vegetarian options as well, the mushroom Korma was mouth-watering! They also do takeaways. Free car parking in park farm shopping centre, though time restricted to 2 hours I think, but check first, as I walked there so didn’t use it.

always steady - good food and service

Tandoori salmon was wet and miserable. Not eaten. The rice was full of green beans. Yuck. The special tandoori was cold, and dry and tough. Will not order again.

Great food clean place gd atmosphere

the Chips were like cheap microwave chips, the boiled rice was boiled rice, the naan was very nice all 3 items are over priced and poor value, the Chicken and the Jalfrezi were outstanding and priced fine so 50/50 which is a shame as the Chicken Jalfrezi was as good as any I have had I will happily use again but not with the extras hopefully and review that can help you improve the extra's both in price and quality as the rest was outstanding

Can’t express enough our satisfaction great service delicious piping hot food and a great atmosphere we arrived a bit late for early bird special but they still allowed us to use the offer a great experience for our daughter first experience of a proper Indian restaurant

I’m a bit baffled by the reviews on here. Just ordered a takeaway and it was AWFUL. Dry, pink, flavourless chicken when I ordered a chicken tikka clay oven. It was inedible. Ordered a chicken biriyani that was dry and lacked flavour. Just awful. I’d post a pic but Google reviews doesn’t seem to allow it. Service was prompt and delivery on time so no quibbles there. Hate to post this as it’s my local curry house and I believe in supporting local businesses but I won’t be back.

Delicious food, cooked to order. Paneer balti and tikka masala. Polite personal service by one waiter. The second, the head waiter came over to check how we were and put his hands on our poppadoms and starters. He patted them down. It's slightly odd.

The food was good. However we ordered vegetarian and one of the dishes delivered was the meat version and a person had eaten some before realising that it was mince meat and not just a sauce with he paneer cheese. Not impressed. Phoned to complain and the original order was sent out. However there was no compensation for the mix up. Not greatly impressed.

**First and last time ordering from here** Ordered the vegetable samosa, chicken garlic tikka, chicken korma, lamb bhuna, pilau rice and a garlic naan. Near enough £40! The vegetable samosas appeared to be straight out of a freezer not too disimilar to Iceland's I imagine. No complaints about garlic tikka. Chicken korma was extremely bland, lamb bhuna was dry, tough and lacking in flavour. Pilau rice could have done with a bit more cooking. Finally the naan was ok nothing special. Overall very disappointed for the amount spent. I shall be reverting back to my usual takeaway of choice 'Mount Everest Ghurka'.

Our first time trying the takeaway food from this restaurant, I don't normally leave a review however spending over £30 for rice, nan bread and 2 curry's isn't cheap for takeaway. We were very disappointed with taste and quality, the lamb dish was nice however the chicken dish was over cooked, the chichen was dry and hard, the rice was undercooked and garlic in the nan bread was very bitter given a weird taste. Sorry for the not so good review.

To say the food was bland would be overly kind. I genuinely believe I could purchase a better Biryani from Iceland frozen foods. My colleague ordered something completely different which again had a bland, watery sauce overly filled with red food dye. I seriously believe all dishes were pre prepared and reheated.

Honestly the best food I’ve had in a long time , the meat was beautiful and so was the flavours and sauce big portions on rice and meat within the curry couldn’t recommend anymore .

Worst korma ever ordered , half the curry was water, had to drain the water out. Watered down with no flavour. Terrible.

Very easy to book a table from a friendly waiter. Lovely greeting on arrival and there is a lift for people with mobility problems like myself. Excellent friendly, fun service. And the food was fresh and lovely. We will definitely be back next time we visit Derby.

Just picked up a takeaway and have been overcharged. Given the previous review I have tried to send a message through their website to tell them about their false advertising but it won't go through

Takeout ordered. Overcharged. Food order short. Staff rude when queried shortfall and hung up phone whilst still talking.

Possibly the worst take away ever. I asked and paid extra for a Pea Pillau rice but just got a plain rice. The Prawn Madras was like soup and the Prawns were shrimps. I have never had a problem eating in, probably they are reluctant to serve rubbish food where you can complain but never again will I be having a take away😩

We love the Royal Raj for several reasons, the flavours, the ambience and attentive staff. Last nights meal was no exception everything was so good and we all enjoyed the delicious food. The service from the kitchen is fast but not too quick that you have only just been seated! Today we put off our Sunday roast lamb as we were still feeling full after quite a feast! If you are looking for a great Indian restaurant just out of town with free parking then make a booking at The Royal Raj - you won’t be disappointed!

Back again after a long time and we had a great meal. Super food and really well looked after once again by the staff. Would definitely recommend. First visit last night for dinner with my friends. Food was really good and we all enjoyed the curries that we had and enjoyed the whole experience. Fair to say we will be back.
