Very rushed service, felt like they just wanted the table back. Food very average for the price. Would definitely not return.

Very easy to book a table from a friendly waiter. Lovely greeting on arrival and there is a lift for people with mobility problems like myself. Excellent friendly, fun service. And the food was fresh and lovely. We will definitely be back next time we visit Derby.

We love the Royal Raj for several reasons, the flavours, the ambience and attentive staff. Last nights meal was no exception everything was so good and we all enjoyed the delicious food. The service from the kitchen is fast but not too quick that you have only just been seated! Today we put off our Sunday roast lamb as we were still feeling full after quite a feast! If you are looking for a great Indian restaurant just out of town with free parking then make a booking at The Royal Raj - you won’t be disappointed!

We hadn’t been to The Royal Raj for a few years, despite it being local, so we decided to go early evening last Saturday. Friendly and attentive staff. Also, they were knowledgable about which dishes were vegan (for me). The food was outstanding. Lovely, fresh ingredients and great flavour. I have just booked again for our son’s birthday. I had forgotten how good it is!

15 members of my family visited just after Christmas and everything was excellent, the staff were polite and friendly and the food was delicious. What more can I say!!

What a great way to enjoy Christmas Day lunch, fabulous choice of food, well cooked, presented and best of all very tasty and at a very good price, no worries of what people like/don't like just go along and enjoy the day with family with very good service from the staff.

Been visiting the Raj over the last 10years and it’s had its ups and downs in terms of consistent quality foods, never been bad but just sometimes would take a dip in quality and taste. Just visited with my family on a Sunday, and whatever the place is doing now needs to be sustained, absolutely delicious, best food I’ve had here in all the years visiting, curry’s deep in flavour and perfectly balanced, pops and pickles never been so fresh, naan bread soft fresh and packed with cheese with just the right garlic, rice just perfectly cooked and not too oily, chips (for kids) again perfectly cooked not too oily and tasted fantastic. Keep this up and there’s a lot less need to be visiting the curry houses in town.

We went for a birthday meal with friends, we did not tell the restaurant this but they spotted the birthday cards and gave a free drink a thoughtful touch. The food was brilliant as well, Naz who served us was attentive and helpful.

We had yet another superb meal at The Royal Raj in Allestree, Derby - they never let us down serving quality food and superb flavours, our compliments to the chefs. The service from all staff is impeccable particular reference made to a very special young man called WALEED. What a star he is, so polite with a cheeky grin that cheers anyone on a rainy evening! He is always ready to offer his super manners throughout our fabulous dining experiences. WALEED is a real credit to the restaurant and I am sure that he is valued by each and every member of staff. Well done The Royal Raj for a brilliant meal and thank you to WALEED for the icing on the cake!

This was our second visit to the Royal Raj and was as good as our first time there. The food was hot and very tasty served by pleasant staff. ( Naz our waiter- (love your sense of humour lol)). Highly recommended.

Called one Monday evening at 5:45pm when I felt that wifey and I needed something to lift our spirits. We were served immediately by pleasant, helpful staff and were given time and space to make our selection. There is an 'early bird' selection which is very tempting and value-for-money, but we opted for the main menu and were not dissappointed. The food was glorious and the service was first class.

We often visit, normally as a family in the early evening. The atmosphere is always relaxed and welcoming. Staff are extremely friendly and great with the kids. Food is tasty and consistently very good. Highly recommended.

We have visited this restaurant twice and each time we have had superb, flavourful food and great service. On our most recent visit, we were able to take advantage of the early diner special, which was excellent value. Our waiter was really helpful and the restaurant is clean, pleasant, and not too noisy. First time visiting the Royal Raj with friends. To be honest my expectations weren't high for whatever reason but I couldn't have been more wrong.

Came to the Raj for the first time last night with friends and we all thought it was great. Staff looked after us well and we all enjoyed the curries that we chose and all the accompanying rice's, nans etc.

For once the wife a I agreed on what was probably the best Indian meal we have ever had, the staff could not do enough for you, very friendly polite a very professional, the food I would give 10 out of 10 could not fault anything what a wonderful restaurant this is, please try you won't be disappointed. We've been before and the food is incredible but this time the service was really bad. We had missing drinks, wrong drinks, missing food and very long waiting times. Half the starters came out half an hour before the other half. The restaurant was busy but no more than you'd expect on a Saturday. Took 20 minutes to come and get the bill payment, well that's how long we waited before giving up and going to ask. No excuse, would think twice about going again.

Booked on a Saturday evening for a family birthday. Staff very attentive when we arrived. Nice decor and atmosphere, very busy. Drinks order taken and delivered. Staff very busy. Poppadoms arrived but sadly the pickles took another 10 minutes. Mains arrived with the exception of one. This took another 20 minutes to arrive which meant the rest of the party had nearly finished their meals before he could start. The meal was sadly average. Half a small bowl of mediocre curry. Not unpleasant but average. My 5 pieces of chicken were tasty but not special. The general consensus was average. Went to pay, the chap behind the counter was busy but not any comment on did we enjoy our evening, was the meal ok or even a thank you. After a bill for £300 I did expect something. The place was very busy, so I assume our experience was unusual. Will not be returning.

Booked a table for the early diner menu on a Friday evening. Arrived at 5.30 and was met by Amir who took our coats and asked which table we preferred. He was extremely welcoming and explained the menu as we had not eaten here before, The food looked delicious when it arrived and the taste didn't disappoint. We ordered a bottle of Merlot which we didn't realise until we received the bill that it was actually a bottle of Malbec which was more expensive. However it was very good so we didn't point this out to Amir as we had had a very nice evening. Thanks to all staff who were exceptional.

I visited the Royal Raj with family for a meal following such a busy week. The service and food was exceptional. I tried the the chicken tikka from the clay oven and my wife the tandoori salmon we were well impressed it was so tasty. I've been many times with the wife and little one, but what's impressed me coming this evening alone us ta I wasn't rushed along it's been a nice steady evening, watch a film on my phone whilst enjoying a fantastic curry. Service was amazing.

Heart warming people introducing you to one of the best places for Indian food. You can have what spice you want and what brilliant food you want if it’s not up to your standards then you can’t get them to take it back but that’s never happened in my history of coming here. Are you going to come? As I recommend coming here if your looking for a cool relaxed environment with luxurious food.

I can honestly say this is one of the best restaurants I have ever visited in my 50 years. Inviting, modern, crisp white table cloths, sparkling glasses,cutlery, crockery. The food is esquisite, good portions, authentic flavours...😋 Will visit again soon, highly recommended.

Not much to look at from the outside, but this is an outstanding Indian restaurant. The staff are very friendly and happy to offer advice and recommendations which is really good. There are also happy to incorporate vegetarian option on most dishes. The food was very good, well presented and extremely tasty. We will be back to this little Gem of a restaurant in the future.

Despite lots of good reviews, we were disappointed with our food. It was unbelievable oily. Ghee or oil it was floating in it. Lots of filler of onions. Rather disappointing.

I've been a regular to the Royal Raj for over 25 years, I have to say every meal is excellent. Freddy and the team do really make you feel welcome, their service is excellent and the food 'what can I say' top class, it seems to get better every time!

Disappointed with the delivery service and how our complaint was handled. The food arrived and was lukewarm. We called the restaurant to tell them. Apparently there were a couple of other deliveries made before ours which is ‘possibly’ the cause for the lukewarm food. At the price we pay for the hot food I don’t expect to have to heat it up before I eat it. The offer of a partial refund or a discount on future orders would have been good enough but wasn’t offered. I won’t be rushing back unfortunately. The food is good when it’s hot.

ordered a family meal take away. We found this restaurant and feel it's one of the areas best, but unfortunately feel let down tonight. The meal was watery, the nan breads were overdone and to cap it all, the discount of 20% indicated on their website was not taken into account when payment was made. The taste was good but perhaps need to look elsewhere for our next take away!

We visited this restaurant for an “early diner meal” . One can order two courses from a reasonable choice menu for only £12.50 if you order before 6.45pm.

This is our local curry house and regularly use their takeaway service.

Had a takeaway from here have always been pleased but last couple of times it has been poor . Took one hour and forty five minutes to arrive and when it did the food was cold . Popadoms were all crushed . Very disappointed and won’t be using again .

Title says it all really. Staff were great, very, very attentive. The building itself inside was spot on. It was just the food for me that let it down. It just wasn’t as fresh as I’d expected. Indian restaurants have improved vastly for me over the last 10 years with noticeable fresh ingredients. This one just needs to catch up a bit.

Had a 1st take-away from the Raj on a snowy cold night when many businesses weren't open let alone delivering in horribly snowy, icy and cold conditions. All the curry dishes we had were great, lots of good quality tasting meat and the Saag Aloo was a delight. Of real note were the SO fresh tasting and scrumptious pickles with the popadoms. Best Indian take-away in a very long time, can't wait for the next one
