The Mogul Restaurant in Derby

The mogul used to be our go to take away for an Indian l, having used them for several years with the exact same order . We ordered after a break of about 5 months but we were not prepared for the decline in not only taste but also quality! We shojld have known when they didn't include the usual poppadoms and pickles that something was up. The chips were dry and inedible, but more shocking was the poor quality of the curries, my chicken saag had ate ups rather than the usual meaty chunks amd my partners butter chicken had tje same- frozen maybe? The Keema naan was also a different colour and tastes off! Needless to say after years of loyalty we will no longer be ordering from them again! Has there being a new owner or something??

I've been coming to the Mogul for over 20 years, and my go-to place in town for a curry. It's been taken over recently and received an impressive refurbishment. Went tonight with the family and pleased to say it was a great experience. Service was good, portions were plentiful and the food was very good indeed. I've tried many others in town, but the Mogul is still king for me.

Worst curries I’ve ever tried - so much chilli , no sauce, just onions chilli and spice I couldn’t eat it ! Binned everything. Spoke to the manager and he just wasn’t interested- I asked for a refund- he just replied “ I can’t do anything - it’s been served “ The chef obviously cannot cook . Save your money and go elsewhere.

We had a lovely meal here. Staff were great and the decor inside is beautiful. BYOB is a touch as well. Thank you!

Nice restaurant freshly refurbished. New menu and prices. The old menu was far better. Informed could order from old menu which we did but was not the same, the food tasted different and less tasty. Standard of food has definitely reduced. Portion sizes have also reduced eg onions bhaji starter you now get 1 and a 1/2! Instead of two! Where the other half of the bhaji went I don’t know. Or who cut it! Normally we order starters main and sundries to share and I think this they no longer liked. Staff unfortunately not as friendly and have now stopped any NHS discount. The staff wasn’t rude but I felt uneasy. This used to be our “go to place” for over 15 years. We will not be returning back.

Four of us went to mogul 2 week after reopening very impressed with the referb and the meal was fantastic thank you to all who work there

not anywhere near as good as we've had in the past. not as rich and tasty. no poppadoms or mango chutney. smaller salad. not hot enough on arrival. rice was stiff and cold. Bombay potatoes were very bland. We have had this meal loads of times but it was disappointing this time. What a shame. I will have to think wether to carry on with you in the future as the standard has noticeably dropped. We have used you for years and this has left us a bit surprised and let down. It was average at best.

Fabulous food, great service, excellent atmosphere & surroundings and all at a great price. Would definetly recommend.

We were the first ones in this great curry house as it was opening as we were shooting to a jazz gig that night. Very considerate of our lack of time available. A spotless contemporary setting. Perfect 4 course meal and wonderful value for money. £15.99 per person for poppadums and chutney, onion bhajee and veg pakhora starters, dhansak and rogan josh mains, mushroom pilau, garlic naan and vanilla ice cream. Not at all oily. Delicate spicing. If you want it hotter it’s best to ask. BYOB so we brought a Argentinian Merlot. No corkage fee. What a generous and pleasing experience it all was. Would definitely visit again when next in Derby. Could not fault it.

It seems the owners have changed and probably the chef as what was once the best food in town, could only be described as bland and tepid. naan breads had no cheese, no flavour and were different very dry texture. meat was different portion and taste. chips were the same lovely chips just colder. such a shame

I ordered a mix grill with a vindaloo sauce and got veg curry. I called up and they said that there busy and will sort it out on the next order! I have ordered this before and it’s come correct, shame as it ruined my tea and ended up in the bin. Normally 5 star

Great food, packed with flavour and large chunks of chicken. As always.

Use regularly and always delivered early with excellent quality food but sadly this order disappointed. Arrived just on time. The rice was excellent as usual but sadly the Jalfrezi was poor. Lacking any taste and spice and the cheese naan was shocking. Over half was so burnt it wasn’t even edible. Deeply disappointed this time.

We ordered a meal almost 2 hours ago, no updates, no sign of a driver, no phone line to call as its constantly busy, we've been trying for a good while now. Because you have not updated uber eats, we can not do anything on their either, we've requested an update 3 times. We have also just ordered 2 curries, 2 rice, that is it. We're ensure if it's actually going to come up not? It's not a good level of service and I'd be very reluctant to order from here again. I understand totally it's a busy Saturday night, but just an update would be great.

Ordered Saag Paneer and Aloo Gobi for delivery. First time customer and I was highly surprised at how good it was. Exceptional taste. A very pleasant surprise to find this gem in Derby.

From the worst to the best: lamb chops - 2 x pieces that were very dry, chewy, no flavour - just hot but no salt or anything else, was unable to eat it, also had tiny bits of sharp bone. Chicken shashlik starter- good portion, comes with veg but very plain, not a pinch of salt. Poppadoms - ok, but had strong fishy taste. Nan and pilau rice - good. Chicken tikka masala - spot on, delicious. Arrived on time and good temperature to eat straight away.

Terrible, chips soggy and under cooked. Chicken like rubber and completely tasteless. Omelette wasnt great either. Burnt underneath and again chicken thats at-least a week old. Average rice! 70% of our order has gone in the bin. Not sure where the high rating is coming from but it sure aint us.

Spot on as usual - Both curries seemed more watery than normal but can't complain. Never had a bad meal from The Mogul.

Deliverer was polite and made sure i had a good hold of the bag before letting go as it was a big order. Food is delicious, we've not ordered any Indian food in a while and had forgotten how filling they could be.

What can I say this Indian restaurant is by far the best food in Derby it's has the best taste I have ever had in Indian food please give it a go you will not be disappointed as its great

Best Indian iv had in a long time

Very disappointing, we've ended up binning it and ordered at another place. Naan breads rock hard very salty, Lamb bhuna no spice, bland tasteless, Chapati rock hard Even the poppadom dips were bland. So disappointing as it used to be brilliant but its resembled a smart price curry

Although it was really quiet I can't fault this place. The food was excellent and the portions were generous - too generous in fact. I was quite full after the starter! The service was also great.

I know it is a restaurant, but I order all my Indian takeaways from here. I have only eaten inside a few times, but that was a very long time ago, so I cannot really comment on the table service. In regards to the food, I find it to be very good, most things I have tried have been delicious. The takeaway reduction, plus the collection discount is very attractive and that is what I do everytime. There are plenty of options for Indian food in Derby, but if you live in the centre, this place has the perfect balance of quality/value. I would recommend.

Delivery time was changed twice and food was not hot.

Very impressed with quality and consistency of our curries. Also got plenty of meat in it too. Naan was delish.

We have been going to the Mogul restaurant for nearly 30yrs . We called in on 3/10/24 , We had not been in for a while but as per normal we were given such a warm welcome from Bobby and his staff . As per normal we had pops and pickles for starters and as this restaurant does the best Tandoori in the land I had the set meal mix grill and sal had paneer main along with G/T nan and a plain Nan and a beautiful curry sauce. If you are looking for Quality food and excellent restaurant experience then please do try this place as you will not be disappointed. The menu is very varied and you will find something to your taste. A massive thank you to Bobby for looking after us and making our visit as it always is a special night in a very special restaurant. I was in Derby on business and ventured away from the hotel restaurant for something more tasty. After roaming a dystopian derby city centre, we stumbled on an empty Mogul restaurant. This may be due to the euro football championship that night and England playing. I'm glad we found Mogul restaurant lovely food and attentive service.

Great food but they didn't deliver everything

As always what a fabulous Indian with such a great variety. We love the spice and they can accommodate. Literally they can burn if you like, but don't be afraid they have many authentic dishes for everyone. There is no other place like this in the Midlands. Thank You x

I've been eating here for many years but have not been in since last summer. Nothing's changed, still outstanding service and even more outstanding food. The prices are good, the portions are plentiful, and the mogul remains my choice of Indian restaurant when in the city centre. Quite simply, the best old-school curry house in the city. Thanks, Bobby and the team, for another fantastic experience.

Food good and delivered well before initial delivery time, however very disappointing as some of the items ordered were missing.

Absolutely amazing!! Can’t rate this restaurant highly enough, all the food was fresh and hot. Everyone enjoyed all the dishes and couldn’t complain about a single thing.

A really fantastic place to order great food from. We have ordered many times and tried a fair bit of food they have to offer. I've never had a dish I didn't enjoy and never wait too long before placing the next order. Portions are a great size and always leave you enough for the next day. I would recommend Mogul to anyone who wishes to try and enjoy an authentic and expertly prepared meal!

Never had a bad takeaway order from here. Consistently good food, really tasty and full of flavour, always piping hot when it comes and really generous portion sizes! Impressed every time, highly recommend. The chefs specials are the stand outs.

The pathia was very mild no spice as stated just tasted like a tomato curry. And the naan rather underwhelming. Really dissapointed as last time we ate here it was lovely

Happened to be in the area and went to this restaurant based on the reviews and it didn’t disappoint. The food is excellent. I’m very boring, but I love a creamy curry and had the korma, and it’s the best one I’ve had in a long time. (Not watery and tasteless like in some places) my partner had the murgi masala and said it was really good. Lovely soft naans. (One garlic and one keema) will definitely visit again

This was a take away order. Website said 60 minutes (like normal), but actually took 2 hours, Chased up with a phone call at 1.40 and told sorry very busy. The meal was nice but no thought of knocking a few bob off or a discount off the next order. Come on guy's, up ya game and when your busy, think about all your customers!
