Viceroy Derby in Derby

I normally do not write reviews, but in this case I wanted to! Excellent dinner with an Indian colleague at the Viceroy! The chicken was as tender as it can be, the spices perfect, the green chillies a hit and Jay and the other staff looked after our every need. Would definitely come here again.

Attended for my nephews 30th so we were in a large group, but all of our food came out together, all hot and absolutely delicious! Menu clearly states which dishes have dairy in which is always helpful for me. Jay was brilliant! He took the large order without a fuss and ensured we all had what we needed.

We had a lovely 4 course meal at the Viceroy. All the dishes were scrummy and flavoursome! The staff were extremely professional and welcoming. In particular Jay who ensured we had a brillant dining experience on our visit. We would definitely come back here and would highly recommend to others! The Bryers :D

We had a lovely meal out at the viceroy, the best curry we have had in a long time. The food was 10/10 and Jay was so accommodating to our party and really went the extra mile to look after us and make sure we had everything we needed, will most definitely be returning, and recommending! X

Never, never order from here direct. Place an order at 6.30 it's now 8 30 and still no food. We love this place to eat in but, it cannot be that difficult to deliver an order within 2 hours. I will never order again for delivery

Food was good but the ladies loo are exceptional poor. If you like clean loos with working flushes, I would not recommend

Previously they provide good food and services but I think chef change noore food tasty and previously they use to give papodam and chutney as complementary but now they stopped doing that as well. I recommend don't go there better find some other restaurants for food. I think management got changed and chef also changed.

Delivery is a Joke. I ordered from here a few months back and had the worst experience. It was over 1 hour 45 minutes late and arrived stone cold. I must have called 6 times to chase, and was told each time it will be 15 minutes. Half an hour went by, and I called again. To be told the same thing. "Another 15 minutes". This went on for almost 2 hours. I gave them the benefit of the Doubt, and decided to order from here again this evening. Suprise suprise, it happend again... I even pre ordered at 18:30 to ensure it arrived on time. At 20:40 I had still not received the order. They just LIE and tell you the drivers on their way. Don't bother ordering online, there are plenty other Indians that will deliver you a curry in a reasonable time. Scroll past, there an absolute joke.

Hands down the best Indian restaurant in Derby, tried several others but nothing compares.

Ordered through just eat as a regular customer. First of all 2 hours to get the food. Everything was freezing cold. Rang for a refund and all they wanted to offer was bring the food again.. haha like I will let you spit in my food.. no thanks. Just wanted my full £40 refund and never come to you again Stick with Mahmood and go to Shalimar

I ordered food to be delivered through a well known delivery service online. The arrival of the food was timely. The food was tasty but the only reason it got 4 stars is that is was not very hot and my expectation was that it needed to be warmer as it arrived.

All round lovely place, the food is beautifully cooked, the front of house staff are lovely but the issue I had tonight is I asked three times does a certain dish contain nuts? which was responded with a "no, we don't handle nuts in this restaurant" whilst I started eating this chef's special, I started to feel like I was getting an allergic reaction. I then asked the waiter again, does this definitely not contain any nuts? Which he said no. So I started to dig in more into my meal. He then came back 5 minutes later and said I'm sorry but this dish contains cashew nuts. At that point I panicked and my brother had to rush me to the hospital. I am going to assume, There must of been a miscommunication between the chefs and front of house staff. I feel this needs to be looked into more, as both front of house and back of house should know the vital information if certain dishes may contain a common food allergy. Luckily I'm alright now. But if that was someone else it could have been a lot worse! We came here for my Dad's 60th birthday and I feel like it's been ruined unfortunately. Careful with this place if you have allergies!

The best tikka masala we have ever had! Stopped in the restaurant for a late dinner and the food did not disappoint. The service was amazing from all the staff and the pricing of the meals was great!

The garlic chicken curry is exquisite, the chicken full of flavour that I enjoyed in each bite. Would definitely recommend coming here and ask for the curry desi style of which was accommodated by the lovely welcoming staff at this restaurant. Also this is the first Indian resteraunt which I have been to that had more than 3 different sauces for the poppadoms as we were given 7 different ones which complimented each other.. Would recommend for all parties to attend!

In my opinion, by far the nicest Indian restaurant in Derby. The food doesn't just taste of spice and nothing else - you can taste the individual ingredients without any overbearing the others. The price is more than reasonable and although I have only used their takeaway service, the inside of the restaurant looks very nice and well taken care of.

We ate here on recommendation of our hotel and it didn’t disappoint. The curries were amazing, served with yoghurt/cuc as standard and the side dishes were also outstanding (mushroom / cauli bajis). We were so impressed by the whole experience we decided to return for another meal on the second night of our stay in Derby - where Eddie took care of us admirably. Highly recommended; around £30 each.

They were busy with a part upstairs but the female toilets and male toilets were filthy. Food was OK but not like a birmingham balti. Visited Derby branch!

Overall, Viceroy provided a memorable dining experience with great food, wonderful service, and a fantastic atmosphere. Always visit this place when we are in Derby. Food is excellent.

Take aways are always hit and miss - they seem to care more about the money than the quality of the food. The curry and rice arrived cold, naan was over done and the chips were barely cooked. There has been multiple occasions where they have forgotten an item from our order. We’ve been a loyal customer for over 1 year - tonight was the last time we will be ordering from there.

I took a group of sixteen people here last night, the food was excellent! good portions, a large variety to choose from the menu, all food was served together and everyones piping hot. The service from all staff was excellent, I would fully recommend this place to anyone, just top notch in my book, we will all definitely go again. Thank you to all at The Viceroy Midland Road Derby

After a slight misunderstanding from one of the waiters on whether or not the Summer Sizzlers were dine-in or takeaway, this was immediately sorted out by the manager and from then on we had great service. The seafood sizzler was AMAZING! And excellent value for £35 between two people for 6 or 7 types of fish/seafood, naan, chips, salad and curry sauce. There was a good atmosphere as there was decent a number of diners for a Monday night. We'll be back very soon!

Ordered a curry for delivery for the second time, and once again it did not disappoint. Ordered poppadoms with 5 pickles, Chicken Chettinadi, Goan King Prawn Curry, Pilau Rice, and two different Naan Breads. Delivery time was about one hour which was reasonable considering the order was placed at peak evening time. The food was hot, superb, very tasty and plentiful. Will definitely be ordering again.

Came here after Download festival for the ninth year in a row. Absolutely amazing food and great welcome. Fantastic service and great visit all round .Will be back again next year.

Rohan was our waiter and was attentive to our every request. Food was quickly sent to our table, and we was never left thirsty for a drink. We dined for the 4 courses for £20 and I highly recommend as the portion's are perfect and light. Will be back very soon thanks for a great evening.

Had a fantastic evening here with my family. Food was brilliant, just like desi home cooking! Jay took care of us the whole evening, and was great.

Been going for over 15 years regular customer takeaway and restaurant. ordered my usual tikka masala takeaway tonight and was like dish water . . very disappointing to be told to deal with it through just eat after compaining it was no where near your usual high standard after spending thousands of pounds through your business through the years i wont be returning very disappointed this is how you treat a loyal regular customer

The food was excellent and served well.

Not many people eating in, but then again it was a weekday! Food excellent and tasty. Service was very good and nothing was too much trouble re waiting for our order and a free bottle of wine as special offers night. Would definitely visit again. Also do not be put off from the exterior...inside stylish.

A welcoming atmosphere and attentive service. Lovely and unusual papadum dips. Tasty starters. Unfortunately, the mains left us feeling dehydrated and out-of-sorts. Our mains were all sauce based and tasted of too much MSG.

The food is wonderful, absolutely no quibles there. However, when we visited the service was absolutely shocking. We actually laughed about it later because it was like being in an episode of Fawlty Towers. I counted two waiters and the owner/manager Ali (Fawlty?). Getting attention was difficult, drinks were missed, we were given prawn curry instead of the duck we ordered though Ali poked it around a bit with a fork and insisted it was duck. It wasn't. They took the prawn curries away and came back with duck after the rest of the part had finished their meal. We asked for the bill twice and nothing arrived so we headed for the door and finally got, you guessed it, someone elses bill! The poor waiter who was passing got it in the neck from Ali for all this but he wasn't involved at all! More parallels with Fawlty Towers :) The final nail in the coffin was when Ali (or was it Basil?) insisted we were all nice people except one of the party who he had taken a dislike to. The really weird thing about all this is that we visited six months ago and the experience was a perfect night out. Never again, there are many other great Indian restaurants nearby.

Ordered delivery 2 hours ago and it’s still not here. Instead fed a load of lies when called the restaurant multiple times.

Our waiter, Jay, was great, helpful, informative, and attentive without being obtrusive. He didn't hover but noticed if we needed drinks or anything else. The food was served in good time and was lovely. The portion sizes were good, We couldn't finish it all. Jay asked if we wanted take away trays, which he bought to the table, then put the meals in them. We will definitely go back to try other dishes.

5 of us came on Saturday was greeted with big smiles which is always nice to see. Can’t fault the staff or the chefs food was absolutely delicious and the customer service was even better especially Jay! Viceroy, Derby has been around for years and it still delivers. Thanks to Jay and the team who provided a first class service with knowledge of the menu. You cannot beat quality food matched with a great service.

Truly an awesome evening spent at the famous Viceroy restaurant on Midland road with my family ! We had booked and got a lovely welcome and we were ushered to our reserved table by Eddy . The restaurant was full and buzzing and it a great atmosphere especially on Mothers Day with a vibe for mothers being treated out . The Mothers Day special Menu was just perfect and as promised my mother ate for free !!! The quality of food and portions were simply out of this world…fresh, tasty and well presented. Used to love this place always good food and friendly service. Took the Mrs and the boys on Mother’s Day and even though we booked in advance it felt like they just couldn’t be bothered and treated us like an inconvenience. I asked if we could have the £20 ahead set menu that is advertised as available every day to be told but not on Mother’s Day - I asked why not as it was advertised as available every day and was shouted sternly in front of the whole restaurant that it’s not available with any other offer - bearing in mind I hadn’t asked for any other offer. As it was Mother’s Day I bit my lip and we ordered of the standard menu - the food was served reasonably quickly and efficiently and was good quality however we had to wait ages for the bill and didn’t even get so much as a goodbye as we left. Food good service gone downhill unfortunately as I used to rate this place highly. Makes me wonder if there has been a change of management- probably won’t return based on this visit ☹️
