We have been here a number of times and it’s always been ok, not Anoki or even Tandoori Nights standards but local so walkable. The chicken tikka was so dry it was inedible, they replaced it with shashlik but it had sauce in it which don’t like so only had a bit of it. Chips were also dry and tasteless, think they had sat under heat for a while. Tikka normally comes with salad but it didn’t. We asked for some but didn’t get any. The portion sizes seem to have shrunk, my husbands curry was only a 1/4 of the small dish and the rice was half the size of other places. The naan breads were good though. Our bill was 71.89 so we gave them £70 which they were not happy with and moaned about it! Thought this was more than fair for poor quality, small portions of food. Won’t go again.

Ordered a takeaway , 1 hour 20 mins was promised for delivery ! 2 hours later I’m still waiting ! Rang the restaurant to be told it will be with you in 10 minutes! And promised a phone call the following day!

Just called in to Bay Leaf on the off chance they had a table for us, on the way home after a night in the pub. We’ve recently had a couple of delicious takeout deliveries from them, because we’re not happy with the quality of Our local Indian restaurant in Shardlow anymore - (having been customers of theirs for years). At Bay Leaf my Husband had Lamb tikka sashlik, then a ‘chef special’ that had lamb meatballs in. I had a king prawn Karahi. All 3 dishes were cooked to perfection and of good quality produce, the staff were so friendly and helpful and the premises were spotless. Well done to all the staff for this little gem of a restaurant - you deserve every success!

Great little curry house, we have eaten in and had takeaway on many occasions and never been disappointed. The restaurant does get very loud, possibly some soft furnishings like curtains could dampen it but still a very enjoyable experience.

1st time ordering from here, I'll just say never again, should of stuck to my usual Mogal green lane.

We have travelled down from Newcastle for a festival and decided last minute to have a meal here. We got a table straight away, service was quick and very friendly. The food was amazing! Nicest Indian meal we have ever had to be honest. Moza was very friendly and helpful when we asked him about how the food was made he gave us some tips and ingredients on how to create it at home. Wish we lived closer so we could come again, 20/10 for food quality

Suraj was absolutely amazing. Kept the laughter going, service and food was absolutely amazing. Definitely will be visiting again. Great atmosphere all round.

Little gem, tucked away in a lovely location. The kind of food everyone needs to experience. Flavour’s actually dances on your tongue. Staff are so vibrant and can’t do enough to add to making the experience joyous.

Enjoyed another meal at the Bayleaf. The food is nice and the staff are very friendly, in particular Suraj, who looked after us well during our meal in the restaurant.

Eaten in the restaurant twice and the food has been amazing. Was served by Suraj both times and he was the friendliest, most knowledgeable, loveliest waiter I have ever met.

The food in this small restaurant is really good and you can tell you are dealing with people who know their Indian and Banglashi cuisine. The service is very helpful and friendly. The food takes some time to prepare and so took a little longer than we'd expect given that the restaurant wasn't busy. However it was worth the wait so we'd recomend it if you are not in a hurry.

First time dining here and we had a great time! The staff were great and kept us in entertained, it was busy with a lovely happy atmosphere and the food was beautiful too (which isn’t easy when we’re from Leeds and have some of the best curry restaurants in the UK to pick from). We both left happy and full and even better there were some pleasant sights to see too 😍 whilst we ate and laughed lol 😉 We’ll be back again soon, thank you 😊

A party of three on a first time visit. We found the staff attentive and knowledgeable, nothing was was too much trouble. The food was well presented and hot whilst flavoursome. We could not fault anything and will be returning.

Delicious food and fast service. One of the best curries I've had. Small inside so advisable to book and take your drink with you as not licensed.

Quite disappointed, ordered a butter chicken masala and a chicken tikka makhani and there was no difference between the two. There wasn’t much flavour apart from sweetness, no spices. I ordered cheese naan bet received what seemed like regular naan as there aren’t any cheese. It was my first time ordering and unfortunately wont be ordering again. Nothing worse then spending money on food which isn’t tasty

We were staying in an Airbnb and this restaurant came recommended by the landlord, and it was only just up the road! (It's non-licenced, but don't worry if you forget, pop into the Premier Shop in the same row of shops, really good selection!) It was a Saturday night but we decided last minute to go here so just turned up and hoped! They had lots of bookings coming in later but they were happy to find us a table. The food was lovely. Do have the popadoms and try their own, made-on-the-premises chutney - delicious 😋 Menu choice was good. Lots of favourites on there, but also some more unusual ones. As a lover of Asian food, my partner was delighted to see dishes not normally on offer in the UK! Our mains were great. Full of flavours, not stingy on the meat, hot-plate for the "curries" (hate the generic term as it doesn't give justice to the food). Staff were helpful, polite, friendly and efficient. All in all I can't say anything less than perfect!! If you want good food and good surroundings, definitely give Bay Leaf a try. You won't be disappointed.

Could not fault them, food was lovely and prices were fair. Bring your own alcohol. All in, a wonderful place to go for an Indian.

1st visit and won't be the last!!... an extremely friendly restaurant and from the 1st poppadom dip into the mango chutney, to mopping up the last bit of madras sauce on my plate, it was all excellent!! It came recommended to us by our friends and so glad they did!!

Absolutely the best curry house in Derby let alone Chelleston. These guys work tirelessly to bring you the best dishes. Small restaurant can be booked but no alcohol is served on site although happy for you to bring your own. (off-licence next door)

Decent meal but not as good as when we last ate there 8 months ago (not sure if chef has changed or something?)

This has most probably been the worse meal I've ever had!!! The Daal was watery, the rice was not cooked properly, madras was watery and not spicy enough the Malayan was generally horrible and the naan bread was cold and the samosas were anemic. The only good thing was poppadoms. I wont be using this place again!!!!

This has to be one of the worst curry houses ever. We ordered half tandoori chicken. Garlic chicken. Lamb rogan josh. Mushroom rice keema nan and garlic nan. How dissapointed can we be. Well to start we had to ring to complain about the state of the nans. Both were cold the size of a side plate and torn to shreds. The chips looked as if they had been fried 3 or for times before. The main was also luke warm. They sent us a fresh meal. This was worse if there was any way that could happen. Again the chips looked as if the oil they were fried in was old and dirty. As you will see in the pictures they was not fit to eat. The nans were both over cooked and crispy. The tandoori chicken was tasteless. The leg had little to no meat on it and looked liked the thigh had be shaved off. The garlic chicken had the appearance of process chicken from a.packet and half the taste. Then came the rogan josh. To start with the carton as you will see was swimming in oil to the point it was around a 5th off the container. The lamb was tough and grisley and had no taste of the sauce it was served in. The rice was not mushroom rice as anyone would expect it to be and was overcooked to the point it was claggy on the roof of my mouth. This was the first time we have used this takeaway and will not be doing so again. I would highly recommend going further down the road to its competition and sample their food. We have always had great tasting food from there however their nans do need attention also but the food is delicious. Avoid this takeaway at all costs. If there was lower rating than 1 star i would opt for that.

Ordered a takeaway from here and it took over 2 hours to arrive. We rang the restaurant over 10 times and they answered and hung up 3 times and only actually answered the phone twice. The first time the man was so rude. The food eventually arrived and all of the food was cold. Probably the worst takeaway curry I’ve had in a long time.

Visited on 30/12 - hadn’t booked but this is a small restaurant so probably would advise booking, as we waited till 8:45pm for a table Lovely food and good service Bring your own alcoholic drinks - there is a shop next door

Ordered take away on a Friday night at approximately 8.30. Notifications said it would be delivered within a 20 minute window around 30 mins or so afterwards. The food came in this window and was a very hot temperature (this is good). Tasty curries, packed with flavours. Hot crispy chips and fluffy rice on the side. Great choice taking a punt on Bay Leaf and looking forward to the next order being as delicious.

My first ever visit to Bay Leaf. There was a group of 4 of us. The whole ambience of the venue was outstanding. You were made to feel very welcome and the cleanliness was first class. Now moving on to the menu. It has to be one of the most extensive that I have ever come across as it choices caters for all tastes and varying age groups. I was spoilt for choice. The quality of the food was excellent and I will definitely be returning on many occasions in the future. First class service with friendly staff. Thank you for a superb night.

Lovely friendly service, crisp white linen on the tables, superb food. It’s a BYO affair so come armed with some Cobra (available next door). Recommended.

Poor service, disgusting staff and attitude

Can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place before! Lamb melts in the mouth & curries very flavoursome 2nd order & was just as good as first my only moan would be the chips are awful & don’t match the quality of the food but the rest of the meal made up for it :)

We used this establishment for takeaway food through the covid lockdown times. Having been impressed by the quality of the food, it was time to try a sit down meal. As expected, the food was great. However the attitude of the staff was possibly the worst I have encounted in a restaurant for quite some time. With no drinks license we took our own, but were chastised for bringing our own tonic for our gin and told we couldn't bring our own soft drinks. OK, but please speak with more respect, we are not children. The air conditioning was on full and causing us to feel uncomfortable. However a polite requested to adjust it, was met with attitude, as if they just didn't care or even bothered. We will probably stick with takeaways and forget any sit downs as the waiters attitudes just stunk.

Ordered two dishes from this place, trying them for 1st time. Dishes were too sweet even after mention to make them spicy.. not authentic indian dishes at all. Expected better.. hence only 1 star...

My first experience of Bay Leaf tonight and they didn't let me down. The food was delivered hot and very fresh, it was delicious and £6 cheaper than my usual takeaway. Well done!

Outstanding food and customer service. Food is always delicious from Bay Leaf. That’s why we keep returning. Last night they mixed up our takeaway order, we received someone else’s order. Phoned to notify them and the correct order was with us 15 minutes later. Both delivery driver and restaurant staff were apologetic and very helpful. This level of customer service fantastic. Everyone makes mistakes. What mattered is how they rectified their error.

We have had a number of takeaways since they opened which have been really tasty. However the most recent once had a small piece of chicken in the vegetarian masala sauce, so we won’t be using them again.

This has been our go to place for Indian takeaways since they opened and until New Years Eve 2020 we have ben delighted with the quality of the food. However a small piece of chicken was found in the masala sauce which had been ordered for a vegetarian, who then could not eat this. We will now be looking for an alternative Indian takeaway as we feel this cross contamination is unacceptable and should never have happened.

Absolutely fantastic. Moved to the area in July and failed to find a decent curry house. Life is now complete. Good menu and excellent food.
