The best restaurants in East Retford East Bassetlaw East Midlands

Tried the whitehouses as new to area, I had sausage & mash or mush potatoes as it just melted into the onion gravy not great, my other half had hunters chicken with chips again the chips weren't the best and barely hot. We finished the meal and asked for desert menu that after 10 minutes didn't arrive at our table for some reason, we paid the bill and left not sure we will return.

It's not open until August so don't know if it was good or not

Visited for Chinese New Year, really nice little place.

Excellent vegetable chowmein, salt & pepper chicken and egg fried rice. Lovely service.

Did not have anything to eat. The pub is nice. We sat out side. A nice group of people came out side. They was from, Barnsley some X miners. Teased my daughter with snuff They was going to a foot ball match. Very nice people.

The Whitehouses pub is one of those establishments that you visit for convenience and not particularly because you're going to be given the finest fare or dining experience. Firstly when booking you will be lucky to get through on the phone, only to find on arrival that there are no reservations anyway as the pub was almost empty. Starters of soup were ordered. It was some sort of curried parsnip, but it did not feel particularly special. The bread in particular tasted doughy and cheap. The main meals were little better, with a burned lasagne and very little else in terms of fresh veg or chunky chips. The other mains of salmon looked ok, but it there was an overall feel all the food had been reheated and not served fresh. There are many other eateries in the area that do food much better and where service is more friendly.

Takeaway tonight was absolutely fabulous - we had a selection of starters, crispy duck, pork lettuce wraps, salt & pepper prawns, spring rolls and chicken satay. Each dish tasted sensational.

Busy afternoon slot. Only 2 tables free Friday lunchtime. Had halloumi burger, onion rings were very greasy. But burger was nice and filling. One glass had orange juice still on the side. And a portion of chips got forgotten. Staff were very smiley and friendly Chairs a little stained, bathroom clean.

This was so disappointing. Reasonable price of £6.50 for hot drink and cake. Although the coffee was ok the cake (we had a few of the cakes in our group) were not good quality and begrudgingly paid for them. Also the milkshakes were really poor.

Was excited to try as we’d heard good things about it. What a let down, really poor quality Indian food with very little taste. Part of the order missing which was blamed on the waitress even though we told the manager/chef that she’d taken the Irene down correctly so wasn’t her fault and then an extra £30 stuck on the bill for drinks that were not ours. Won’t be going back.

Place needs some TLC but fine for what we paid. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would probably not rush back though.

Would not recommend dining here very rude stuff. very rude manager Me and my family went h go for sunday lunch where we waited 1 hour for our food to arrive my wife who was five months pregnant did not get to finish your food. Because three members of staff that? . table was reserved. And our time was up what terrible service would not recommend this place. Did not get to finish our food it was so embarrassing

Unfortunately the thing that soured my experience most was the fundamental failure of the kitchen, dry, chewy and fetid chicken even coming with complimentary hairs. The atmosphere was mediocre at best and table service was the only positive.
