Fred's Cantonese Restaurant in Bassetlaw

Having ordered a take away for a Friday Night, the food was very disappointing, not only did the pancake roll tasted off, so did the beef curry and chicken balls. But after 10 minutes my wife was violently sick, bringing up the entire meal. Will not be eating here again.

The food here for takeaway was disappointing. Too many corners cut over time make the food lacking. Duck and pancakes, leeknis provided when it should be spring onion. Beef sauce dish was watered down and lacked any flavour. Spring rolls are tasteless and the rice wasn't good. The meat portions are very good though.

Vouchers purchased for Christmas gifts 2023, Unfortunately 1 was mislaid so we contacted Fred's with all purchase details required, There response was they don't keep a record of vouchers used & there for cannot issue a replacement voucher. That's fine, My response to Fred's is KEEP YOUR VOUCHERS & KEEP YOUR MONEY I'M OUT X

Always a friendly greeting on the phone, no matter how busy. I love that when you collect your order , your greeted by a smile , aways asks how you are , always remembering your name. Very professional. Food always quick and delicious. Thank you

The food was incredibly dry and the ribs were burnt and full of fat. The woman on the front of house was so rude when tried to complain.

The food is average.The English waitress was lovely but the man was terrible not welcoming at all then a young girl had an allergic reaction to prawns which we had actually heard her ask for definitely no prawns but was given them the ambulance had to be called we could hear shouting and screaming from staff in the kitchen about this we were then left with no service whatsoever no apology for the shouting and terrible atmosphere only passed a £110 bill without so much as a thank you first and last time only hope they learn from what had happened as someone with allergies may not be so lucky next time!!!!!!

Freds is with out doubt the best Cantonese ive ever eaten from over the years there food is beyond excellent with quality service offering excellent quality food.

Wow, best Chinese food we have had from Retford! Amazing food - we had a takeaway. Spent £72 so had a few dishes to try - family Chinese night - would thoroughly recommend.

What a terrible visit ..it seemed like fred didn't want us there. Everyone couldn't believe IS attitude towards us . Not at friendly. In any way .the 2 girls that helped with drinks were fine .Will never return. Very over priced and the food wasn't great .we heard several other people saying how bad their meal was aswell .very disappointed with our visit

Food was just OK, arrived at significantly different times so by the time our rice came our chicken was cold. We were never offered a second drink with our meals. One of the staff was quite stressed and snappy, which didn't create the best atmosphere. Ordering felt slightly rushed, and we were spoken to shortly. A glass of coke was £4.80 so in hindsight, I'm glad the waiting service wasn't so great. Gentleman on the bar was friendly and smiling. Wouldn't return.

We went today and it was like eating in a fridge it was so cold we never tuck the coats of .I am booked for new year eve but will not be going. So disappointed when it was ower family get together 14 people and bill over £400 .so disappointed

Looks very expensive, but, seeing the food - it looked good to be fair, however so little in the way of vegetarian food, so if even one person is veggie, they won't be happy with the range. We just had a drink (£2.40 for a 'multipack - not be sold separately [the clue's in the wording]) and then left for an amazing Indian instead a few doors down the road. Nice Front of House staff, so service 4/5. Atmosphere may have been better if it wasn't so cold & draughty.

Ordered take out, had a pint while I waited, food came quick and was nice!

I went to have a meal with my fiancé a while ago, the drinks are lovely, the food is impeccable, most of the staff are nice. But we got talking to one particular waitress, quite large and she said she was only 15!? Her name was Ellie or Millie I didn’t quite catch it. We got talking and she told us that her boss takes the tips??? And that if we wanted to tip her we should either sneak it in her pocket or sneak it in her hands!! I was utterly shocked, the fact that the waitresses don’t get their tips is terrible, but saying that to a paying customer and then asking to sneak her money?! What!. Anyway, the food and drinks are great but I can’t give it higher than a 2 star because of the encounter I had with the waitress.

2 hours wait and our food never arrived. Rude staff

We waited over 2 hours for food- we ordered a set meal and sides. We got 5 sides and never got the set menu. After 2 hours we were told we can either cancel the set meal or wait for them to start cooking it. We said we would like to cancel. We got charged £60 for the drinks we had and over £70 for the 5 sides we ordered, when we decided to leave the staff were having a laugh about the situation and clearly pointing at us, since we questioned the bill. Most disrespectful and vile treatment we ever came across in a restaurant.

Went to use the website, all I got was pop ups and virus pages trying to scam me!!

Average. £126.00 for 4 of us. Very pricey, average food and slow service.

Had a takeaway tonight, around 9pm. Spent £33.00 and guess what....you dont get complimentary prawn crackers.....the largest profit making item after rice......and I have to say, a mediocre meal.....not that good to be fair. Oh, and travelled 10 miles to get it ....won't be rushing back.

Food was good, it's let down by the atmosphere & ambience. It could so easily sorted if they only tried. We couldn't hear each other talk due to the big groups on other tables. If they put up some noise absorbing materials and section off an area it would work so much better. What's the point of going out of you can't hear what everyone else is saying?

We have only been here three times as we are not local. Some of our party travelled from Suffolk and it was well worth the trip. The food is excellent and the staff were lovely. We think this is the best chinese restaurant we have ever visited.

Unfortunately we will not be going here again. Although they had a 20 person party in we were made to wait1 and a half hours for food.Totally unacceptable the food was normal standard but the wait was too much..It was also very very loud. The 20 person party were well in drink and very noisy.When i booked we should have been told there was a big party in. The place was full with nowhere near enough staff we wont go again

Just home from a wonderful meal at Fred's. We had been recommended but it exceeded our expectations from the delightful service to the food and the ambiance. Being new to the area we had not yet found our 'regular Chinese restaurant' but we definitely have now! Can't fault it. High standards are so obviously expected from kitchen to front of house and they were met in every aspect from what we could see. Well worth a visit if you're dithering!

Not the cheapest restaurant in town but certainly the best Chinese in town, Excellent choice of food expertly served and prepared, in a spotlessly clean environment.

Never had a bad meal from here. Good for dining in also. It doesn't deliver but it's worth picking it up as I've had worse meals from others that do deliver

The waitress are lovely they take good care of you but the two old men and the lady are rude and don’t listen. They rush you and don’t give the girls their tips, the lady at the front needs to stop going on her phone and the two men are rude. The food is good however the service is horrible. Would not recommend going there. The place never looks clean and the girls look like they don’t want to work with the people but they are lovely to talk to.

Great Chinese, always been a gem. Lived in Sheffield for a number of years and the ones on London Road couldn’t beat this place. Only downside is they don’t deliver.

I lived in Hong Kong and travelled China. There were very few places that do food as well as Fred's. Its such a shame I get full, but I never waste a single crumb... So delicious.

Went here last night, at short notice, excellent food, great attentive service. First time here but won't be the last. Highly recommended. Soooo much better staff that Spencer's on the Square

Food very very good , staff, really friendly, but had to wait along time for our first drink , then we had to wait nobody came to take our order , we had to ask , food took about 45 minutes to come , but as soon as we finished they took plates away and replaced it with the bill really quickly , then it just seemed they wanted us out .

No accessible toilets, big disappointment. The food here is lovely and all the staff were too. The issue we had was the lack of accessible toilets and a tight squeeze through the restaurant in a wheelchair to find out that the doorway to the toilet was not even big enough to get a wheelchair in. It's very disappointing that no thought was given to wheelchair users and meant our meal was cut short to rush home for the toilet.

Lovely food as usual. All of us were very happy with our choices. Menu is too long for me to cope with so I tend to order the first thing I spot. Tables could do with being a bit bigger as well, but other than that the service was good and everyone else seemed happy too.

Very clean and modern restaurant. Plenty of parking on the street too. Food was got and very filling. We'll recommended.

We've visited Fred's several times and had great meals. On this occasion the service wasn't great even though it was pretty quiet, long time getting served, items missed that we had to chase up and the food wasn't up to the usual standard. A real shame as its usually spot on. Really put us off revisiting I'm afraid, especially for the price you pay.

Fantastic service and good quality of food, especially mussels in black bean yum yum. Just keep an eye on Keith, always served wrong food. Needs to retire asap. Katherine is brilliant on the take away service, David very cheeky, but experience is great, when describing food. Happy to have u open again😜🍺

Fabulous as always, only slight crumble. The duck now comes off the bone which made it dry.

Whilst the food is fabulous, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired,, I ordered spring roll, and it wasn't in the delivererd food. So where is the spring roll that I have paid for?

Booked a table here and as soon as we walked in we were overwhelmed by the smell of cannabis. Sat down at our table and smell was so off putting let alone the extortionate prices for their food. Needless to say we still not stay. We left before we even ordered.

The takeaway food is a cut above any other Chinese takeway in the area. Real quality.

Excellent meal at Fred's . Very fast service nice relaxed atmosphere and very friendly and efficient staff. Will definitely return. Also the coffee was lovely and hot nice end to meal with the addition of a few choc thanks to waitress 🙂
