This was an exciting pub to visit, set in a glorious ancient building and having an old-school design! This is also welcoming through the Beach Bar imagery, classic signs are worthy and the counter is well-presented. I enjoyed some cheap Guinness and pool was so affordable and fun, me and my friend were blessed at two games in! The staff were friendly too, lighting is solid and cleanliness had been maintained.

Great little pub. Hasn’t changed in years which is brilliant. Actually the one thing that has changed is the beer - it’s a lot better kept these days. Had a great pint of landlord. Classic old pub highly recommend

Great 'local' atmosphere. Enjoyed 3 excellent pints of Landlord. First was a little cloudy, the bar staff made a point of coming across to offer to change it but as the taste was good and it had a good body I stuck with it. Pints 2 and 3 beautifully clear. Will certainly return when next visiting my son.

This is one of those increasingly rare pubs that has kept its historic interior without being painted a horrible sage green or grey colour. I don't think this pub has substantially changed in my lifetime and preserves a fantastic and genuine 30s interior. That's not to say it's shabby, but it's not had the horrendous Louis IV do-over that's ruined so many decent pubs. They've got genuine oak panelling, old fashioned bar stools, and a fire! The crowd that goes here is very friendly - you don't feel like you're invading their space and like a lot of Retford people are happy to chat. The beer is well kept and the pub obviously has good cellars. My only slight niggle is that I'd prefer a wider range of local ales. If they'd only expand their local ale range this would be my go-to pub in Retford. If you're a pub enthusiast or spending a few nights in Retford this is one to add to the list of decent pubs in the town. To the owners I'd say, please, please, please stay away from the Farrow and Ball and retain the ambience, because it's getting so much harder to find a genuine pub like this. From an atmosphere point of view if you like this vibe you'd also like the Black Boy in Retford and The Mallard in Worksop - all fabulous locals.

With its stone mullion windows you expect something “olde worldly” about the Turk’s Head, and that’s what you get. The interior of this pub doesn’t quite stretch to an ancient, rustic look but has a very pleasing decor of smart wooden panelling and all the expected ceiling beams. The central style bar is also all wood panelling and although all this wood might seem over the top, they get away with it - just. Yet if the style is old fashioned, the atmosphere is not, and I thought that the music being played was very good - but as it featured a lot of Scots bands (Gerry Cinnamon and Texas) I might be biased! The service was friendly and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. This is a really good pub.

Just popped in there for a swift one before going for a meal. Very friendly barmaid who you could have a laugh with. Well kept pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord. Could do with some new glasses for soft drinks though. Group of twenty somethings celebrating a birthday and knocking back Sambucas at 5.00pm. Very noisy indeed but not intimidating, they were just having a laugh. Would loved to have seen the state of them at midnight! Obviously not as cheap but more fun than the Wetherspoons just up the road.

What a dump this is now!!!. Used to be a fantastic pub - best in Retford. Real pub selling real ales but oh dear oh dear what has gone wrong? The person who runs it now used to run other pubs in Retford, all of them have closed down now, get the hint? It's now full of low-lifes and I wouldn't dream of going in there now, far too rough. Can't see this staying open much longer.

I visited this pub on a night out in Retford with some friends and this pub was one of the highlights of my night. Walking in, the pub has a classic, oldy worldy feel that a lot have lost, while still being clean and in perfect condition. The staff are lovely, and contribute to the friendly atmosphere very well. On top of all that, the prices are good and I would certainly recommend it for a pint!

Looking for a chance o hark back to what an old time boozer was all about? Then do try The Turk's Head in Retford. It has a distinctive ambiance that sets it aside from all other hostelries in the town. Timber panelled walls encase this quaint little bar that can hold a surprising number of people when it's in full flow. It makes no pretensions to be anything other than it was originally designed for, a snug warm and friendly little drinking establishment offering a fine ale for those inclined to sample a fine cask. Nikki the land lady has seen her efforts to reestablish The Turks to be once again a stopping place of choice for all ages. She offers a fine selection of Malt whiskey and got this old Jock's taste buds a tingle when he and the good lady decided to try the resurgence of gin! Again there is a wide selection including for those inclined, cocktails perhaps the only nod to modern day drinking! Regulars and visitors alike do not want this old time boozer to change or go, so please to help keep a little of the past alive in an ever changing modern world pay a visit if just for one. Enjoy.

Almost eight pounds for two glasses of lukewarm white wine so bad you wouldn't even cook with it. One was supposed to be Chardonnay, one a Pinot, both very unpleasant. Taken from a household fridge in the back room, yet nowhere near chilled. Is the fridge even turned on? The wine in Wetherspoon's, over the road, is better than this!
