Fabulous fish and chips. Light crispy batter. Best fish and chips

Has this place changed management or something? Trying to order and they don't understand me. The phone rings for about 5-8 minutes before anyone answers. Everytime we walk past the shop looks closed.

Wow!!!!! Not had jm fish and chips for years. Tonight I had fish bites, chips and curry sauce. The fish was to die for and the chips were perfect. Delivered early and piping hot. Delivery driver was so nice ,polite and respectful to my property. He was a Very happy man 😊 Thankyou I will be recommending you for sure. Love Dawnie and merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 xxxxx

Good hot food. Staff need to ask customers if they want food open or wrapped. Our meals all came in separate wrapped parcels.

Arrived 30 minutes after opening time but no lights on in the restaurant. Staff were there cooking, and they quickly turned on the lights, but no heating . Orders were quickly taken, and the food produced to a good standard. I formed the opinion that they don't get many restaurant visitors mid week.

We moved to the area a while ago and we have struggled to find good fish and chips. Delighted to report the struggle is over! Ordered for collection and all was ready on time. The fish was excellent with wonderfully crispy batter and the chips were delish. The best thing was the lack of grease which we hadn't been able to find til now. JM's is worth the small extra distance and will now be our regular chippy :) Edit: Although JM's has now changed hands this is still a wonderful chip shop with wonderfully crispy batter and yummy chips. I have to add that the mushy peas are the best for miles :). If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Lovely new people make this the best chippy in Retford in my opinion.

20+ minutes wait for chips, no queue. Frozen chips, tasteless and reheated.

Called here twice to purchase fish and chips (dine in)each time it was a Saturday including this w/e closed at 1.00pm no one in sight. Notice on pavement indicating they were open, opening time and closing times on window but the doors are locked. Three OAPs wet tired hungry and in need of a hot drink not a nice experience. Avoid go to Kennys.

Would definitely recommend. The price is reasonable, the meal deals are very good value, and it's all cooked fresh. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Had take away cod chips peas food was very good, but of a wait, however it was cooked fresh. Just need a bit of organisation. Would go back again though . Portion size good and price wad reasonable

Excellent freshly cooked fish and chips , huge portion , too much for me to manage . Friendly staff , can’t comment on atmosphere as empty but for us perhaps because it’s a bit out of the Main Street .

Not awful, but most likely wouldn’t go again. Ordered a kebab with pitta and the pitta turned out to have mould on it, called to complain to which they sent a driver to drive 4 miles to deliver a single pitta which they probably could’ve just refunded but driver is a legend for coming all that way for a pitta bread, did have to wait a while so ate it on its own, delicious pitta, was cold by the time it got here though lol. Would’ve rated lower if it wasn’t for the replacement. Chips were good, however the kebab was pure oil and grease.

Just had fish and chips from here there are the best in retford used to have some from here every Friday when I worked on kings park in the 90s they was very good then and are still good today very good price as we’ll keep up the good work

We were in desperate need of somewhere to eat after visiting the Theatre for a look round - probably 7.30 ish. So, right next to the carpark we found this little fish & chip restaurant. Brilliant food, great coffee, brilliant young woman serving us. Priced just right. We were the only ones in the restaurant side - hence a medium 'atmosphere ' rating, otherwise a great place. Clean, welcoming, and grand food.

I live in the US and these kind people have delivered fish and chips to my Mum and Dad every week now for over a year. I just heard they are retiring. Makes me sad and happy at the same time.

Probably the worst chips I've ever tasted think they must of been in the frier 2 seconds. The pie crust was rock hard too. Such a shame there normally good.

Used to take them an age to deliver but is now on a par with other take always. The food is lovely, the large cod is enough for two and the chips are properly cooked. Always a reliable go to for fish and chips!

The fish was full of grease not nice at all.

ordered on just eat, i understand there is a lack of delivery drivers so i won’t put 1star. I waited an hour for my delivery, i called 10 minutes before it arrived and asked if it had been sent- they said ‘no it is just cooking now’. It came stone cold, and unfortunately none of the meal had any flavour, definitely wouldn’t come again 😞

Takeaway: Visited JM's as we were passing through the town centre. I had quite high hopes for this restaurant as it comes up as being a top rated one in the area, now I will say it is a decent place for your fish and chips craving but I wouldn't say the best. I had a few reservations that would make me hesitant visiting again. 1) There doesn't appear to be a "meal deal for one" on any of the menus, this wasn't an issue as I was purchasing for my partner and I, however if she didn't want the standard meal but I did there did not appear to be any way to fullfil this. The only options were for 2, 3 or 4 people to get any form of manageable portions instead of having to purchase large chips, fish and sides separately which from a quick calculation appeared to be 20% more expensive than a simple half the "meal for 2" 2) The service was a bit "off" perhaps they were having a bad shift but they only appeared to want customers in the restaurant, not wanting takeaway and as a result, only using the takeaway service for quick cadh. Our order was taken without much of a word, cash was given and we were asked "do you want change" which would have been about £8 from the £20 I had given... That would have been a 40% tip. 3) Got home, opened up to find the fish had been smashed into the box with quite a soggy batter due to excess oil. However the fish itself was quite nice. Good points: 1) Better gravy than West Carr road (voted Retford's best) 2) Quite cheap in comparison to others in the town center 3) Offers inside dining

Food tasted old very expensive too but worth money at all

We ordered some food from here last night, turned up with half a portion of chips, no sausage and the peas looked disgusting. We called up to ask about what was going to be done about the lack of food in our order, we were told that the owner/manager would be dropping the rest off "soon" after 2 hours we'd given up with the idea of getting the rest of it. Today we've come outside and they'd left the rest of the order on a bench outside our house but nobody had knocked, rung the doorbell or called us. Would not reccomend, very poor service really.

The fish was dry and the chips were under cooked, it was the worst I have ever had from here.

This is in our opinion the best fish and chip shop and definitely the longest serving. Fabulous little find with a restaurant at the side for anyone wanting to eat in The fish is out of this world and we have tried others but we are always comparing it to JM's. Polite and friendly staff and during covid they have provided an excellent service too. Well done and thank you

Fish was large and really nice but the chips are horrible soggy undercooked and cold the garlic toast was also soggy and cold. I would order the fish again but nothing else. No idea on restaurant service

I ordered online for the first time which I found very quick and easy to use. They were quick to acknowledge my order and allotted a time in which to pick up. When I arrived to pick up my order I only had to wait a few minutes for it. The food was absolutely delicious as always. I tried a chicken and mushroom pizza for the first time which was really nice. I highly recommend this place, very clean and highly efficient.
