Bouchard Restaurant Inn

St. Julians, Newport
26/02/2020: This visit was for a special occasion - my husband’s birthday dinner! We usually eat a mostly plant-based diet, but this was definitely a good place to have some filet mignon and duck breast. We were not disappointed! Both dishes - the filet with demi-glacé and duck coated with ground coffee in a brandy sauce - were tender, delicious, and exquisite. The perfect accompaniment for each was a colorful, beautifully-constructed and delicious “bouquet” of vegetables: flowerettes of butternut squash and mashed potatoes, a blossom of broccoli, and “leaves” made of slivered summer squash, caramelized onions and snap peas. We enjoyed a fabulous home-baked dinner roll while our wine breathed. Score the meal, and we saved room for their over-the-top chocolate mousse cake for dessert - the plate was adorned with birthday wishes in French, written in chocolate. Magnifique!
11/02/2020: Food is excellent and beautiful views the steak was cooked to perfection and wait staff was vey knowledgeable about the food

Joes

Oystermouth, Swansea
22/02/2020: Worth travelling to Wales for this ice cream. Delicious ice-cream. Staff are helpful and friendly. Brings back childhood memories
22/02/2020: The best ice cream on the planet and you never know you might just see a royal. We tend to stick with the vanilla as it’s so creamy and tasty and then you can add sprinkles and wafers and the like. We’ve been coming here for years and it’s never let us down although it can get very busy in the summer.

The Clink Restaurant

Adamsdown, Cardiff, 20-30£
17/03/2020: Really good food and we were served by Ian who was attentive and efficient. I had the duck starter followed by tortellini with radiccio, then a delicious chocolate mille feuille. My husband started with creamed spinach soup, then venison pie and orange and ginger sponge pudding.
15/03/2020: I have wanted to visit The Clink for some time, but booking isn’t easy when they are usually so full - Always a good sign ! The visit today for Sunday lunch didn’t disappoint one bit. We all had 3 courses and the Mocktail of the day. The soup and the crab starter was excellent, the chicken, fish and belly pork with a variety of vegetables was amazing and the cheeseboard was enough for 2. The portion sizes were generous and the vibe and service was perfect.

The Whitebrook Restaurant

Trellech United, Monmouthshire
09/03/2020: We stayed over for a night with dinner. Lovely place in a great setting - very relaxing. The staff could do enough for you. The check in time of 4pm did seem a little late though. The food was superb. Imaginative, thoughtful and well balanced. Saying that a few of the dishes could have been hotter - the halibut and ham dish was basically cold by the time it reached us. The wine flight with the menu was awesome. It played so well with the food - possibly one of the best food-flight matches I’ve had. Overall a great stay with happy full customers.
27/02/2020: This is a great choice restaurant for a considered and intensely flavoured menu. The foraged food that was added to the dishes did not dominate proceedings but added delightful accents. Although The Whitebrook is more than a little ‘off the beaten track’, it is well worth seeking out. Everything from the moment we arrived until we left made us feel welcome and looked after.

Butterflies Bar & Kitchen

Blaenavon, Torfaen
15/03/2020: A pure gem. My friends & I love to search out independent places to eat and drink. Having only recently discovered Butterflies we’ve already been back a number of times and every time we’ve been impressed! Dayne and his team always provide great service and consistently high quality, tasty food of epic proportions. Today we had the Sunday lunch experience which was delicious but we were defeated by the amount of food! See you again soon
12/03/2020: My first visit. The Sat-Nav took me through some convoluted route, and parking was not great. However, the quality of the dry aged steaks was excellent, combined with the friendly, informative, and efficient service made it a great first experience. As I was driving, I didn't sample one of my favourite beers (Butty Bach), so with that and the parking in mind, its a taxi next time - hopefully there will be many more next times.

The Brit Pub

Bryn and Cwmavon, Neath Port Talbot, 20-30£
24/02/2020: The Brit Pub is a great venue. Very good food and fantastic beer. I’ve not given it full marks as they do not serve children in the evening. (If find them quite tender). Can’t see this mentioned on their website. Turned up at 6pm with the family and felt a little embarrassed being turned away after all the good stuff I had said about the Brit. Now finding it very hard boycotting the place!
22/02/2020: Visited last Wednesday to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was quite busy and we were glad we had booked.

Servini's Snackbar

Cathays, Cardiff
15/03/2020: I was considering between four and five stars, but I only give four. 2 days before our visit we returned from a holiday in the Czech Republic, where the service was absolutely fabulous. And maybe it was a decisive moment, because apart from it we were satisfied with the breakfast as well as the friendly staff.
11/03/2020: Always a favourite of mine whenever in Cardiff. Eggs benedict my favourite. Best breakfast in Cardiff.Staff always smiling. Will be back again.👍👍

Shiraz Restaurant

Castle, Swansea, 20-30£
11/03/2020: My wife and I had an excellent meal here with great hospitality by Daniel the host combined with a unique atmosphere. I had the Dough yoghurt drink to start after which we tucked into the delicious Hummus and Flat Breads. My wife had the vegetarian option of Fried Vegetables with Basmati Rice and I chose the Koubideh Mix of Lamb and Chicken Kebabs and Basmati Rice. Mmm ! There was a mixed salad to share. We were too full to order desserts but the Turkish Coffee and Black Tea came with complimentary Baklawa.
11/03/2020: Amazing food! Reasonably priced! Staff were great! Lovely atmosphere! Would 100% recommend! Will be visiting again soon

Madame Fromage

Cathays, Cardiff
07/03/2020: Tapas platter and wine, ticked away in an arcade in Cardiff city centre ..... excellent quality and value for money .... recommended
24/02/2020: When we go somewhere i always take some time to jot down places with great reviews in hope that we will get a chance and some time to experience what i have read about. Madame Fromage is an absolute delight, very friendly and considerate staff. Great service and reasonable pricing for the sheer quality that is served before you. We shared a meat and cheese platter, salads, chutney, breads of many varieties and we were both fully satisfied when we finished. My wife had a gin based cocktail and i had a large glass of wine to supplement this festival of top produce. Food was presented beautifully with care and love. The experience in all was a wonderful way to anchor our day, well done.

Gwaelod y Garth Inn

Pentyrch, Cardiff, <20£
08/03/2020: Booked for an early Sunday lunch. We arrived a little early so were offered seating in the bar until the restaurant opened at 12. Our drinks were brought downstairs to us and around 12 we wandered back up to the restaurant. Our waitress was lovely. We both had beef sirloin which was really good! The roast potatoes were crispy and fluffy inside, a good array of fresh vegetables came in a dish for us to help ourselves along with a big jug of more gravy. Loved every morsel! I never manage to finish meals out but did this one. I just didn't want to stop eating it. Thank you Gwaelod Inn. Every time I have visited you have provided goid hospitality and great food and today was no exception.
03/03/2020: Considering we can see this pub across the River Taff from our bathroom window, we don't get over there as often as we would like. However, when we do make it over, Rob and the team offer consistently excellent service, a super range of beers, snacks for walkers, great meals for diners, and a jukebox which even has some Jake Thackery and John Prine on it! It's dog-friendly, has two big warm fire-places, and even has it's own Crafty Devil beer - "Ain't This Mountain High Enough?" - which is rather tasty. Book for Sunday lunch as it gets busy, and if you can, park somewhere else and walk over - the car park is small and the road very narrow.
