Butterflies Bar & Kitchen

Blaenavon, Torfaen
12/10/2020: We had Sunday lunch here and it was delicious. Very generous portion sizes and the meat was slow cooked and so tasty. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. All COVID precautions were in place and the atmosphere was great. A cosy bar area and suitable for families. We will definitely be returning soon to try out the normal menu. Thank you!
03/10/2020: My friend and I visited last night and we can't wait to go back! Although we're in the middle of a pandemic and there's so many restrictions in place it actually felt like a normal dining experience. The best experience we've had since before lockdown. There are precautions in place for our safety but they weren't overbearing. We had the lamb kofte and prawns for starters. Both were so tasty and portions were good. Then for the main we had the lamb and mint pie and el don burger. The portions were very generous. The lamb was so tender and the gravy was the best I've ever had! The burger was so juicy and thick. We was extra greedy and ordered 3 sides; onion rings, dirty fries and garlic bread with cheese and caramelised onion. Again all three were amazing. Unfortunately we was too full to finish it all never mind a desert, maybe next time! The staff were very friendly and welcoming too, nothing was too much trouble for them. We'll definitely be returning!

Da Mara

Penylan, Cardiff, <20£
16/09/2020: I've not had a chance to eat here so the rating is purely regarding not getting tables I booked.First time I booked they had double booked me and didnt have the table. We had friends over from Essex. Very embarrassing.Recently i booked 4 weeks ahead for my wedding anniversary in October and received an email cancelling the booking without reason or even a phone call to offer me alternatives. Perhaps I'll never get to taste the food that looks delicious or taste a bottle of Chianti to compliment my succulent steak or gaze lovingly into my wife's eyes over a candle lit table on our anniversary. Perhaps 3rd time lucky? I doubt it
02/09/2020: This review is long- overdue but my husband and I ate here last year and we hope to return again. I recall we both had pizzas which were lovely and huge. The restaurant was super busy that night so service was a little slow and I had to chase up our order a few times- however it was worth it when it came and the atmosphere was good and lively. The decor is also really nice and has a stron Italian vibe,

Joes

Oystermouth, Swansea
26/09/2020: The fact that there were always queues of people at Joes says how good the ice cream is. Absolutely delicious!
23/09/2020: Only stayed 4 days in Swansea (after a 14 year absence) and we managed to eat ice cream in the Mumbles and Swansea branch - sadly these days only takeaway. Even better than remembered!

Shiraz Restaurant

Castle, Swansea, 20-30£
06/09/2020: We arrived in Wales mid Saturday evening, hungry and needing food. Shiraz had a table available; what was going to be a quick bite turned into a warm, friendly, quite lengthy visit. The food is delicious, piping hot flat bread, delicately prepared falafel, tabbouleh and hummus, creamy rice stuffed aubergine and royal rice pilaf with cashews and walnuts (they misunderstood can't eat peanuts for can't eat pistachios, no matter). The chef brought out several little desserts on the house for everyone to enjoy with their after dinner drink and explained to me how to prepare his delicate, tasty rice. Overall a fun and delicious experience. Tables not brilliantly spaced, but serving staff wore masks. Clean, pleasant toilets. Door opened at intervals to refresh the air. What a treat to start our holiday with.
02/09/2020: I went with my two daughters ages 12 and 15. We had Persian stews and salmon with rice. Very generous portions. Recommend the humus and bread. Staff treated like welcoming to your home. Nice experience. Go with time, rather than for a fast meal.

Salkaara

Llandaff North, Cardiff
02/10/2020: We booked in advance and I'm glad we did as I think we would have struggled to get a table. We had the obligatory poppadoms and dips which were home made and you could tell. We opted for a shared set menu so that we could try a few dishes. We had an exquisite starter of lamb, scallops and sauces. The presentation was beautiful too. We had a selection of main courses, the lentils were so good, the lamb curry full of flavour, and the chicken was so tender. This food also came with rice and naan bread. You could order more but to be honest we were pretty full by this stage. But there is always room for dessert which was delicious too. The customer service was amazing too, everyone was so polite and lovely.
25/09/2020: Ordered take away. Incredibly slow. Over an hour late and won't answer the phone. Food is good but I wouldn't advise a take away.

The Goytre Arms

Goetre Fawr, Monmouthshire
16/08/2020: My husband and myself had Sunday lunch today, what a difference to the last time we visited. It is so clean and such a lovely feel to the place . My husband had the pork which was so tasty and I had the turkey. There were ample portions in fact I thought to much for myself , the gravy was so delicious and 4 veg plus best Yorkshire puddings I've tasted for a long time also parsnips which many places don't do those. Didn't have room for a dessert but my hubby had another one of the very nice cold Guinness. Hope it's not too long before our next visit
16/08/2020: Had Sunday lunch at the goytra arms pub and was very disappointed it’s seem to be frozen veg that they served you and not fresh there was a tangy taste to everything on the plate vegetables they served was cold and the beef was awful really not bother and waste your money £12.50 wasted in our apotion never again

Gower Seafood Hut

Oystermouth, Swansea
28/09/2020: As a lover of seafood I was delighted to see the Seafood Hut and loved the popcorn cockles with aioli, whilst my husband, not a fishlover thoroughly enjoyed the plaice goujons with tartare sauce. The accompanying golden sliced fried potatoes were excellent. All cooked to order and eaten sitting in the sun on the slipway. Very friendly service, everything yummy. Could have eaten some of everything, such care was taken.
21/09/2020: Lovely freshly cooked takeaway sea food. Just order, there may be a wait because it’s popular, but you can wander off and come back. Eat on the prom. Friendly staff who try hard. Overall a great place.

Viva Brazil

Cathays, Cardiff, 20-30£
18/10/2020: Visited on Friday for ‘date night’ and was impressed with the safety measures in place and the new way of working. The two ladies who attended to our table were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us. An excellent experience.
13/10/2020: COVID procedures in place made our lunch visit feel very safe indeed. Waiting staff were helpful and efficient in serving sides of our choice, drinks and bringing all the different meat options to our table. The restaurant felt spacious but still had a good atmosphere. I preferred this visit to a previous experience in ‘normal’ times!
