Oh I miss this place so much! Can’t wait for this dreadful situation to improve and for HSS to reopen its doors. I’m longing for the Social Smash and a Mrs C’s coffee!

It was great to meet the new team member Eleri today. Eleri is a fluent Welsh speaker and gave a great welcome to us as we practiced our Welsh. Welcome to the social family Eleri. You have made a great start with the customers. The food at HSS was as usual great. Just looking forward to the evening coming up in March.

Beautiful atmosphere to watch the world go by in the wonderful town of Treorchy.Enjoyed the gorgeous HSS Eggs Royale served on a cornbread pancake with gorgeous salmon and two perfectly cooked poached eggs and nicely dressed in Jalapeno Hollandaise Sauce.This isn't my first visit as I am from the area. I will always return Perfect latte too I like this place a latte!@_travellingwelshman

Great little place, really pleasant friendly staff and atmosphere. Great decor and pics and the food was delicious, went for late breakfast deffinantly recommend.

Christmas Visit. Had brunch with the extended family in the week before Christmas. A wide range of food from vegan to the full Welsh was ordered. All served together, hot and delicious. Staff were really friendly, as usual. We love coming here are a family. It’s our special place to eat out!

As usual High Street Social never disappoints. Whether it be from the friendly faces of Jack, Lydia, Lynda and the rest of the team to the superb food cooked by Shannon and Sophie.This week we had specials on offer which included Stilton and Steak pie which was superb as well as the usual fayre for HSS. I should say that the term usual may be the norm for HSS but it is unusual to have such lovely food in a small valley town. There are other places within Treorchy with their own cuisine and offerings but none beats High Street Social.Beautiful food, good value for the quality of the food you get and superb service.

I visit most weeks with family or friends. Service is prompt and friendly. Food is very tasty and portions large. I usually end up chatting for ages with old school friends etc. Great place x

Visited this cafe based on its current reviews. It was not a disappointment and lived up to its feedback. I had the cafe special of slow cooked lamb shoulder Quesadilla, it was a generous portion and very tasty. Coffee and service good so no real complaints, parking was difficult, but probably worth the effort.

Had this vegan feast today, which was absolutely lush! I asked for the vegetarian breakfast but with avocado instead of egg and halloumi, was no issue at all. The butternut squash and cavolo nero kale were particularly amazing. I could eat it all over again. Thanks for making eating plant-based so easy!

We've been to HSC on a few occasions. The quality of food is always excellent and the staff are super friendly and happy to make any changes to your order if needed.I can vouch for the avocado and chorizo flatbread - delicious There are also options for veggies and vegans.

Had the Big Mike Burger and chips - omg one of the best burgers I've ever had - seriously Yum - great service. Defiantly worth going to if you are nearby - you won't be disappointed :-)

I love this restaurant, but you do have to be really patient. From ordering it took over 20 minutes before the food arrived, then it was tepid. It must have been a one off because i have frequented this place and never had the food at this temperature. The staff were really understanding about it, as i don't like to complain. Will go again.

The most amazing food I’ve ever had. Just such a great atmosphere and hosts. Truly remarkable. The coffee was exceptional, real depth of flavour and great presentation. Felt so welcomed and at home- the staff were so friendly and helpful, really went the extra mile to make sure I had everything I wanted. Would definitely recommend this as your next favourite coffee/food spot!

Had the social breakfast, it's not the cheapest but it was delicious and good quality, the staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble, will definitely be back.

This was my second time to eat at this place, the first time I put down to it being a busy period which is why my meal took an age to be cooked. However, on this occasion I had to wait 45 mins for egg on toast! I could hear several people all talking about the poor service and having to wait an exceptionally long time for food. One person even got up and walked out! Food is good quality, portion size is less than average, service is attrocious, prices are way too high. This is a cafe in the bottom half of Treorchy charging London prices. Needless to say I won't be returning. If you have PLENTY of time on your hands AND a large wallet then by all means eat herer, else give it a wide berth.

I've visited here 3 times and have never had a bad meal. The place is always spotless, staff are so friendly and make you feel at home and the food is beautiful. We've always had a perfect experience and great value for money. Chefs put a lot of care into the food and all locally sourced too. I would recommend the eggs benedict, pancakes and French toast.

The High St Social Smash has been my mainstay but really appreciated their veggie breakfast. Yummy and used imaginative ingredients which I appreciated like kale. Be hard pressed to find a better veggie breakfast in a place with beautiful decor and speedy and friendly service.

Had brekkie at HSS recently on a recommendation. The smashed avo was divine and the flavours were brill! The selection of food catering for vegetarians and people with allergies was also extensive. I adored the decor and the service was next to none- the staff were extremely polite, friendly and welcoming. A great ambience and location and it is an absolute tribute to not only Treorchy but the Rhondda as a whole- I particularly loved the pride flag! I would highly recommend this vibrant, inclusive cafe to anyone in South Wales.

What a warm welcome we received when visiting High Street Social twice on our trip home to Treorchy! The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly, the place was spotlessly clean and the food was outstanding!

We regularly pop in to HSS for lunch, they offer a varied menu and a specials board. The food is always good, the staff are friendly and very helpful. They serve good coffee and have a drinks license and a bar area. Evening opening would be good, we enjoyed the themed events, please restart them.

I was taken here for lunch by a friend. I had no idea of its existence, but it was a superb experience in a great local atmosphere. It was a very hot day but it was cool inside with the folding windows open, There was a simple and straightforward menu with a specials board, and all the food was made in-house to order with local produce where possible - absolutely no commercial food-service provider products! I had the ultimate cheese and ham toastie and my mate the faggots and peas. Mine was great and his faggots were the best I'd ever tasted! The owner came to speak to us and he has some interesting dining ventures and is passionate about food.

Called in for brunch today. Boiling hot outside, but comfortable inside with the big windows open. I had the quesadillas and he had the pork burger. Both really tasty and I couldn't finish all mine. He finished his, but then he's a bottomless pit to be honest. We were both too full for even a coffee - gutted, because they do a great flat white. Can't wait to go again!

We both had the lunch special - home cured corned beef, we changed the fried egg to poached and added mushrooms with no fuss or extra cost. The chef came out to ask if it was to our liking. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The vibe of the café is always so welcoming. I know that it's a place I can go on my own and still enjoy. Local produce is used as much as possible. The café is professionally run but it still retains its charm. A regular haunt which is always a pleasure

High Street Social has been a favourite of ours since it opened. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome regardless of whether you’re stopping for a meal or just a Mrs C coffee! This visit was for family brunch. The standards of food were high as always with the needs of my toddler granddaughter being met as well as my own food allergies. We all have our favourites on the regular menu and the weekly specials are great when you want to try something different. HSS is part of a thriving Treorchy community and high street. Definitely worth a visit!

I love to visit for a lazy, social breakfast - perfect poached eggs on toast and bacon all washed down with a Mrs C frothy coffee. Great atmosphere and friendly service.

We’ve been going to HSS, as a family, since it opened. The staff are friendly and welcoming and it’s still the best place in town to socialise and eat with family and friends.

Recently attended High street social with my mum on a Saturday morning. We were greeted with a smile and shown to a table. Our drinks order was taken promptly. My mum has allergies and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful with some great gluten free options. Staff were happy to make swaps and changes to the dishes. The food was delicious and a good price too. Throughout the staff were friendly, polite and happy to help. I now attend regularly even if it’s just for a coffee and cake.

Can't complain really. Food was good and a nice atmosphere. Will return soon to try another dish with the other half

Since my previous review a year ago the popularity of High Street Social has grown and so many locals and visitors enjoy the food the social atmoshere that it offers. It is a great place to meet for coffee with friends or to have lunch. A varied menu that is "very special" with delicious food. Staff are pleasant and helpful. It is also a venue that hosts events supporting the Community such as the "Annie Awards" promoting work of young women and girls and the "Social Strollers" on Wednesday mornings when people of all ages meet to walk around the valley to enjoy fresh air, socialise and keep fit.

HSS never fails to impress! Had the Monte Cristo sarnie yesterday and oh boy, was it delicious! Loaded with Swiss cheese, turkey and carved ham, it filled me for the rest of the day (and I had to give some to my husband, it was a huge triple decker with chunky chips on the side). The staff were superb as always,nothing is too much trouble. Our little one loved one of the books the cafe has on hand, which is brilliant.

Very happy with the amount of gluten free options for offer at HSS! As a coeliac, I worry about eating out and hoping that restaurants will understand and acknowledge my illness. I would recommend HSS to anyone!

Me and my girlfriend visited for lunch today, great service from the young guy, very happy to help and kept FOH clean & tidy by himself and all the customers happy. The food was great hands down the best breakfast I’ve had! The sausages were so good, bacon was proper, eggs were cooked to perfection and the bread was to die for. My girlfriend had the fish finger sandwich which looked amazing! Good atmosphere too, only thing that could have been improved was my flat white. (And that’s just being really picky!) Great La Marzocco machine so coffee equipment is up to the job, just could have been executed better. Overall, a class location and we will be back! Diolch

I went here for dinner. The cocktails were great but the service was slow and the chicken burger was too big to even take a bite of. The appetisers were pleasant but the mains were below basic

I had the pleasure of yet another amazing brunch today conjured up by the chefs at HSS. The specials are exceptional and creative every single time I visit. Jack is a great asset to the place, he's attentive, professional and always cheerful! I'll let you into a secret.. Sometimes we visit just for the pleasure of seeing him :) I cannot stress how important it is to support local businesses and local people and HSS deserve our support. They are a cornerstone of the community in Treorchy and go above and beyond for local people and charities. If you are in Treorchy and you fancy a brunch you'll never forget please visit! Enjoy the local Two Dogs Coffee and best of all the food!

Visited recently with two fussy vegetarians in tow and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive, making sure their needs were catered for. I had a meat eater's breakfast which was absolutely delicious - quality ingredients, beautifully presented and not a trace of grease. I highly recommend a visit here, they do mouthwatering 'specials' on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Another lovely aspect of this business is the community spirit. Every Wednesday they lead a local group of walkers in the area and then head back to the cafe for a well earned coffee.

Brunch was superb, with plenty of choice, in such a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and I had a reserved window seat with visiting family. Highly recommended. Well done HSS.

The staff at High Street Social is so friendly and helpful! I had a lovely chat today with one of the ladies on the staff, Cath, who praised me for breastfeeding my daughter in public. It is such a rare occurrence someone does that and it made me feel really comfortable and welcome. Well done to your whole team, you're doing a fab job! Great food, great staff, I would recommend you to anyone, especially fellow mums!

A great breakfast with some friends and colleagues from Men Shed Treorchy. Staff here are very helpful and always happy to severe. Would recommend the breakfast here it's possible the best in the area

This cafe serves excellent food and coffee with very friendly staff and a good community feel. It is also licensed should you which to have a glass of beer, wine or gin with your lunch.

Great for snacks, a meal or just a coffee, staff are always pleasant, prices are reasonable, the only downside is that when its busy it tends to get very noisy.

Been here many times and food is always excellent (Welsh Rarebit a favourite) and the service friendly. Most recent visit was for Valentines Day and it was superb and reasonably priced (£27pp for 3 excellent courses and a cocktail). Can’t fault the place

I have written one review before of this innovative cafe, since then I have eaten there more than a dozen times. The quality of the food here is truly wonderful, the menu is so much more than you might expect locally. I certainly enjoyed the best roast dinner there and their themed evenings have always been both delightful and delicious. The burgers here are beefy, full of flavour and complemented by some zesty accompaniments. Today the Cawl was exceptional as was the coconut and passion fruit sponge, so light yet still buttery and full of flavour with a not over-sweet buttercream and passion fruit topping. YUMMM.

We had been to High Street Social some time ago, and decided to give it another try, as we were in the area.

I recently celebrated my birthday at High Street Social with a group friends, we visited on the pizza night. The service was excellent and the staff were super friendly and helpful. I could not fault the food, between us we ordered everything on the menu and it was all delicious. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. I would highly recommend visiting this cafe especially during the evening as it was an intimate and cosy experience.

I spent many of my teenage years in Carpo's as my best mate's dad ran it, I have been trying for a few weeks to get to the HSS to try it out - last week I discovered that they close on a Tuesday (my fail number one).

By chance I found this café, and so pleased I did. Egg Benedict worthy of 5* Hotel - and indeed, better than some I've had in 5* Hotels. Good coffee. Cakes look tempting. Staff very welcoming, friendly, and efficient. If you are in the vicinity, be sure to come in...you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

Love this place, something different for our town. Smart enough for a special occasion or family celebration, without having to go to Cardiff, yet down to earth and community-oriented every day. Would recommend this for a relaxing breakfast or lunch to someone’s golden wedding anniversary party !

This place should be excellent with local food and creative chefs. I do not know what is going wrong here but every time I visit I'm annoyed and disappointed. None of the food is local, its shipped from a commercial food company in Carmarthenshire which is disappointing. The menu reads as both bizarre and absolute madness at times. If you want a giggle please read the specials board as working out what kind of brain puts these food combinations together is a source of entertainment in my house. The serve is slow and incompetent and they have the cheek to use coffee from Bristol while selling bags of the local coffee. I'm sure patrons are confused by this. One saving grace is Jack the waiter who is a star, otherwise its overpriced and mediocre at best.

Been here a couple of times and enjoyed the food. A lot of different things on the menu to choose from. I loved the sound of granny’s cawl with with chunky bread and salt butter but went for the eggs benedict as I hadn’t tried that before and it was good. A good selection of locally brewed beer and cider too. Good experience fair play.

Too hot to cook on Sunday so we popped down the road for brunch. Had delicious pancakes with bacon and strawberries and my husband had a ham and cheese toastie, washed down with an iced latté. Admired the artwork and appreciated the playlist. All in all a nice little hour.

I’ve been to this cafe on several occasions and at different times of day and evening. My old home town has got this gem that has become the hub of the community. I love a Mrs C frothy coffee - named after the previous owners of this once valleys brachi Cafe Mrs Capannini; a lovely lady I might add.

This was our 4th visit to High Street Social :-) Fantastic Tapas, Gin Cocktails and Atmosphere (live music was an added attraction - very good guitarist & good voice) We will definitely be going again :-)

What a little gem. We attended for an engagement party with friends. The place is small but really welcoming. Loved the recipe books on the shelves.

My favourite place for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. The best place to try a new cocktail or an unfamiliar concoction. It has the best atmosphere from breakfast and throughout. I know I can always meet up with the girls or take the family any time of day and be welcomed by the amazing staff here, they really make the experience even more special! I can sit in and have a long catch up with a close friend or I can pop in on my way somewhere to pick up a takeaway Mrs C☺️ This is literally the perfect place for any occasion and for any bunch of people, it really is an asset to Treorchy’s High Street (and the food is so aesthetically pleasing it’s almost certain that I will take a photo of what I order every time I go here)! Cant wait to visit again soon! ❤️

We visited this evening for the Easter Feast. We had an absolutely brilliant time, sumptuous food, and amazing professional and friendly staff. And the gin and whisky at the speakeasy was a tremendous bonus. And with a portrait of Annie Powell, Britain’s first female communist mayor, on the Wall, this is definitely one of our favourite dens. Thank you once again, keep up the good work, and we look forward to a return visit soon.

I was visiting from Norfolk and went for a family meal. Food was amazing, all the courses were great but the Steak was the highlight. They went above and beyond to make sure that we were all happy with the meal. We all thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend. Great service and friendly atmosphere.

Went along last Sunday and had one of the Specials - a breakfast bap with really nice Welsh bacon, sausage, black pudding and egg (over easy - the way I asked for it) and a Mrs C’s coffee. A friend had the Social Smash with avocado and poached egg. Quality is high and the atmosphere is very friendly with lots of customers chatting across the tables.

Called in today and tried their new cakes. It was a marbled caramel cake and absolutely gorgeous.

I remember visiting this Cafe as a child. Now I visit as an adult. Breakfast pancakes are absolutely fabulous - warm, rich and sweet. Washed down with a traditional 'Mrs C' - what's not to like? Friendly, warm and inclusive- I love it here. In fact I may just pop up next Saturday morning.

I love the brunch choices here at HSS, pancakes, Social smash and eggs Benedict a great addition to the high street. Coffee is great, too. The dinners are also inventive and stand-out from the rest of the dining out scene in the upper Rhondda.

This superb place is perfect for brunch, lunch, evening meal or just a coffee and catch up. The food is stunning and the variety great with new things popping up on the specials board weekly. I’m a regular visitor here and always have a warm welcome from every member of staff. In addition to various lunch time visits I’ve been lucky enough to dine there with friends on a few evenings often with a singer/comedian which makes for a great local night out! So in a nutshell this place is fantastic and well worth a visit if you’ve not yet had chance! I can’t recommend it enough! Big thanks to Cath, Geraint and each member of staff working there - I’ll be back very soon!

Our first experience of high street social and it didn't disappoint.

On arrival we were greeted by a traditional bag piper. Such a lovely thing to do. The atmosphere was amazing. The haggis was brought in escorted by the piper and it was a sight to behold. The food was outstanding. This is a really special place and the staff are always attentive and lovely. It's rare that you get the ambience and food spot on and High Street Social does this brilliantly. Well worth a visit and highly recommend. Already looking forward to next years burns night. Well done to you all. X

Attended here last night for their Burns Night celebration and it really was one the best nights I’ve had. We were welcomed outside by the bagpipes which was so wonderful. The food really spoke for itself and was amazing. They have managed to capture a community spirt you rarely find these days. The staff are so knowledgable and are the best around. My one worry is that by other people reading these fantastic reviews it becomes even more popular and we won’t get a table in the future and I’m sorry I’m not 100% sure I want to share it with everyone just yet.

What a hidden gem!..This place is a must to visit...The staff welcome you like royality and are friendly and professional. Menu choices resemble a classy London Restaurant. Exquisite meals are scrumptiously presented..giving temptation to take a photo before eating!..A privilege to encounter top class dining at a remarkably low cost in picturesque surroundings. Each visit offers further menu choices.. so guaranteed to "tickle your tastebuds". Highly addictive following an initial visit!!

Took a friend for lunch as I have visited on serveral occasions. Fantastic food as always. Myself and friend has the steak sandwich on the specials board which was absolutely fantastic. Also enjoyed a latte the best one I've ever had and slice of the chocolate orange cake which was divine. All served with a friendy welcome from all staff and especially Sarah . Will be back soon. Great value for money for the quality of food and your getting something a little more special than most normal cafe/ coffee shops.

Really enjoyed our Pie night, the corned beef pie was delicious, pastry was the right amount of flaky, though I was a tad dissapointed that my friends ended up with a tray rather than a slice, they ventured for the game pie which looked fantastic. Washed down with a lovely Shwmae But local beer.

We often visit HSS with friends and family sometimes for a Mrs C coffee, sometimes for a lunchtime treat always enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the meals have all been wonderful. We are booked in for one of the upcoming themed evenings with friends which are always fun and a little different. A great local venue well worth a visit

Excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our brunch for a friend’s birthday. We booked and emailed ahead as we had one vegan one gluten free and a vegetarian ha . Nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing. The staff politely laughed when we said we would be coming every week. Fab. Thanks again

We went here for the special Christmas Burger menu, and were not disappointed in the slightest. I had high expectations having eaten here before and also because of the great reviews others have given this place.

For me, one of things I really enjoy at High Street Social is the great coffee - whether an old school Mrs C or, my favourite, a skinny flat white - using great beans, Welsh milk and Rhondda water.

Another Fantastic dining experience in this little treasure of a restaurant. The food,service and entertainment provided were absolutely top drawer and made for a wonderful Year End. Can’t wait to return

Have visited here and will definitely come again soon. A great atmosphere with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Most importantly the food was great, I had the Beef Special. I travelled all the way from Cardiff and the journey was worth it, definitely puts Treorchy on the map!

We are a Welsh/Aussie family from Australia who visited family in Wales over Xmas/New Year. We enjoyed a fabulous brunch at the High Street Social. We loved the decor and modern feel of the cafe which reminded us of cafes in Perth and Sydney where we live/have lived. The food was very tasty and right sized portions. The eggs Benedict didn’t look huge but it was more than sufficient. The Social Burger was huge and the oozy mozzarella cheese in breadcrumbs which was part of the burger was a warm stringy delight. The pancakes with bacon as an extra with maple syrup went down well with our 13 year old son. And last of all the smashed avocado with feta, pesto and poached eggs was absolutely delicious. I think that the prices for what we had were also great value, especially considering all the food is prepared fresh in the kitchen rather than pre-made meals brought in and microwaved. There was a great relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the cafe. The owners even allowed my 18 year old daughter to play some laid back Australian music over their sound system via Spotify. What more could you want?

High Street Social is a hidden gem in the “Valleys”.

I eat here at least a couple of times a month, the food is delicious and cooked while you wait , the staff are very friendly and will always accommodate your needs. The themed nights are good fun and well attended. Would highly recommend a visit if you're in treorchy.

When ever I get home to the Rhondda I pop into High St Social. It is a much needed addition offering great food, wine and beer and attentive staff. It is fast becoming a focal point and cultural hub,promoting local artistic talent. I cant fault it and I am sure that there will be many venues seeking to replicate what High St Social offers

I make a point to head to high street social for breakfast every time I am visiting family in Treorchy. The food is always excellent, the staff are friendly and most importantly for me the coffee is great!

I’m a regular customer with family and friends and can’t speak highly enough of this place. There’s always a warm welcome, a varied menu that caters for all tastes and a genuine sense of community. Whether I’ve been stopping for a quick coffee, or spending a long, relaxed afternoon over a meal and a few bottles of bubbly, I’ve never come away disappointed. Such a delight to have somewhere different to go to in the Rhondda.

Difficult to comprehend how anyone can genuinely comment negatively on this place. It has fundamentally and fantastically transformed the eating-out and coffee drinking scene in Treorchy and brought it into the 21st Century. It attracts visitors from far and wide and its outstanding reputation is growing and spreading by the day. The owners are particularly adventurous in the choice and variety of food and drink on offer. The decor is novel and interesting.The food is always excellently prepared and I, for one, believe it to be reasonably priced. The selection and quality of the coffee and other drinks are first-class. The staff are always friendly, full of chat and welcoming. They are all young locals. In fact, it is the policy of the owners to recruit staff locally. They are committed too not only to making the place a success but to help the community as a whole in many other ways, such as fund-raising evenings for good or charitable causes. Their decision to open and run such a special establishment here is to be applauded and admired. Not just well done but superbly well done I say. Eithriadol o dda!

My favourite eatery in Treorchy.

Absolutely adore coming here to eat, chat and generally have a lovely time. Pancakes with blueberries, bacon, syrup and natural yoghurt were our choice this time along with a pot of tea. Service was excellent as usual, polite and friendly. The table was well equipped with condiments, cutlery, glasses and chilled bottled water. The pancakes were very filling but not too heavy. Always so impressed with the quality and portion size. Great to see art work hung relevant to the community and reflecting some of the projects HSS have been involved in. Another plus is that we always see friends there...including the odd blast from the past! Love it x

The food, as always, was excellent and the service was perfect. The staff are always polite and smiling even when the place is packed. Nothing is too much trouble for any of them. My soup will keep me full until tomorrow, my grandson had to ask for half his toastie to be wrapped to take home and my mate's club sandwich was enough for 2. Everything is freshly made exactly to your liking. Three meals, a coffee and apple juice for just over £20-very good value in my opinion. It's great to have such a delightful place to go in Treorci. Well done HSS. Fabulous food, friendly staff and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Over Xmas my friends and I enjoyed top quality food in a cosy bistro in the evening and a lively daytime cafe experience. Treorchy is lucky to have such a versatile facility on our doorstep.

I love this cafe/restaurant. We always enjoy our time there. Food is always very good, wine very reasonable and the atmosphere and friendship shared with other customers and staff is fantastic.

We booked a table for our family to have Brunch at High Street Social on Christmas Eve . I’m so glad we did as it was packed out at 11am with lovely understated Christmas music and a warm atmosphere.
