Meral's cafe bistro

Childs Hill, Barnet
12/08/2020: Customer Service was great and the portions were huge for the price I could not even finish, great food and juices !
02/08/2020: Always enjoy the food when I visit Meral's. They give generous helpings and its always delicious. Great staff too.

Fairfield, Croydon
05/09/2020: We hadn't been for a while and returned with friends last week. All of the food was, as ever, absolutely delicious. Friendly staff and a great evening overall. Highlight: gobi 65. Superb.

Cathedrals, Southwark

Riverside Vegetaria

Grove, Kingston upon Thames
31/08/2020: Went here on the last day of eat out to help out as we’re spending the bank holiday Monday in Kingston. Everywhere was packed but managed to squeeze in here and glad we did. Very reasonably priced and the food was tasty. Not a huge choice on the menu but what is there is good. I would recommend Masala Dosai and falafels with home made hummus are very good. Not entirely convinced social distancing is being fully carried out as felt a bit too busy in there. That would be my only gripe though.
27/08/2020: This was an utterly disappointing experience with probably the worst food I can ever remember being served at a restaurant. The service was not much better either, the owner/waiter had not heard of social distancing with his thumb planted in my daughters bowl of microwaved slop and frequently elbowing me as he lent over the table. The food was not prepared fresh, tasteless and poorly microwaved.

Open Kitchen

Haggerston, Hackney
29/08/2020: Where to startAttentive staff, great food and a lovely experience Starters of Arancini and prawns and burrata were simple and full of flavour.Mains were gnocchi and striploin. Both beautifully presented and tasty. All accompanied with a delicious Italian red, Brunito Rossi Toscana. This is part of Hackney College, bringing through trainee restaurant staff. Come on down for a great food experience
19/08/2020: Was really behind the philosophy of OKN1 and supporting student chefs. I thought they may be experimental with flavours or techniques - sometimes you can appreciate creativity over delivery - but this wasn’t interesting or tasty. The cauliflower dish lacked all flavour and the ‘roasted seasonal veg’ consisted of canned peas and courgette - watery and mushy.

The Gate Hammersmith

Hammersmith Broadway, Hammersmith and Fulham, 45-60£
12/04/2020: I've written a rave review of this restuarant before, but just wanted to add a note that although the second (and third) visit was just as good, the Islington branch is not the same at all. The food is good, but not up to the same standard, and it has no atmosphere at all. Unlike the Hammersmith branch, which is a lovely room, the Islington one is cold and bare and lacks any real feel. It was also very empty when we were there for lunch which made things worse.
30/03/2020: Unbelievable. Calling them selves best vegetarian restaurant and then only heating up their food (which you can clearly taste!!) is the biggest scam I've ever seen in the hospitality industry. As well they are treating their staff with the worst disrespect. No wonder no one stayed there longer than a couple of months. Get your focus and priorities straight which should be FRESH food and happy staff.

West End, City of London,Westminster
29/08/2020: Overall the food was bland and the burger burn. Its sad as I heard alot about this place but didn't meet my expectations.
27/08/2020: Came here with a friend for a late lunch.Very welcoming, friendly and polite staff, and moreover amazing food (I've been to Mildreds Kings Cross and Camden, but first time in the Soho branch).Everything was delicious; the mock duck was in particular fantastic. Even my carnivorous friend loved and it, and we would definitely be back!

Books for Cooks

Colville, Kensington and Chelsea

Royal Teas

Greenwich West, Greenwich

West End, City of London,Westminster
11/07/2020: If you’re ordering, make sure to add the aubergine to your wrap or salad box. I honestly eat here every time I’m in soho. The staff are so lovely and the manager Wassim always asks if you need anything additional. I remember when it was busy and I needed a drink of water and he threw me out a bottle. So kind.
23/06/2020: This place has really gone down hill. I have previously gone here before and the wraps and salads were delicious and fresh. Unfortunately, that seems to no longer be the case. The staff are very lacklustre in their approach to customers and would rather be outside smoking and texting on their phones. They also use the same gloves for the till and for handling your food which they drag across the counter surface with the pitta touching it directly. I'm not even sure if the gloves had been changed since the fag break. Disgusting. If you're vegan or vegetarian don't put your hopes on having your food not touch meat that's been on the counter previously. Additionally the wraps were cold, I threw the wrap straight into the bin without eating it I was so repulsed by the lack of hygiene I had witnessed. I would avoid this once great eatery.

The Garden Cafe

Bishop's, Lambeth
22/05/2020: Nice place to sit inside or outside, having cup of tea or coffee with sandwich or their sweet cakes- good customer service

Gallery Cafe

Bethnal Green North, Tower Hamlets

Hardcore Burger and Lobster

Aldersgate,Cheap, City of London,Westminster

The Larder

Mile End and Globe Town, Tower Hamlets, <20£
29/03/2020: We like The Larder. It's a good old fashioned veggie cafe - it's almost like stepping back into the Seventies. It's laid back, a little messy and awkward, and very amateurish. And that's part of the charm. The food is so-so. A little hit and miss. And communication is very poor. It's not clear on entertering what the set up is. Do you sit first, order first, or what? And what do you order? Where's the menu? Where's the greeting? Where's the help? If you know the place you know what to do, but if you don't then it's a little awkward, and nobody offers to help or even looks toward you and smiles. But the people are nice, and when you do work it out, it's OK. Food is OK rather than great. But whenever we're in the area we like to come here. We like to support veggie cafes, and also we like the relaxed vibe here.
