West End, City of London,Westminster
13/04/2020: We were three and had four starters: the mushroom balls (porcini arancini, white truffle oil, porcini, chestnut mushroom risotto on porcini cream); the hazelnut dukkah (warm heirloom carrots, orange dressing, whipped tahini, soft herbs, pomegranate); the gyoza dumplings (shimeji mushrooms, chilli bean oil & tamara dip), the charred artichokes (with crostini and aioli); the mole frijoles, tomatillo salsa, greek style vegan 'cheese', corn chips and one main: the levant chicken kebabs served with Persian lime butterbeans, fennel, preserved lemon, spinach and whipped tahini.Plentiful and all succulent. All the starters we chose ranged in price between 5 and 6 GBP and the main was 12 GBP.Great competition to Farmacy which I place at the top because Famacy goes a step further understanding that processed white sugar is the most unhealthy ingredient one could put in desserts. Unfortunately, Milfred’s does use white processed sugar in their desserts. Hopefully they will change for the healthy option in the near future! However their starters and mains are incredibly delicious.

Fairfield, Croydon
21/09/2019: Booked this restaurant for dinner tonight. Called in advance to get a high chair for my 18 mth old son. They kept the chair ready but it had no safety belt. If we had put my son in it, he would have simply slid out and injured himself. My wife left to go home nearby to pick up our portable high chair. When I mentioned to the owner/waiter that this is not compliant and they should consider getting a new one, instead of apologising, he accused me of being unreasonable and talking to him rudely. We simply left the pathetic sod to his filthy restaurant and i walked out with my elderly mum. We have been there once, and other than the one type of Dosa they do well, the rest of the food is abysmal...stay away on grounds of the rude owner if nothing else.
02/08/2019: Having had a lovely lunch here we travelled for an hour to have Friday lunch in this restaurant. It was closed with no notice on the door to indicate why. I had checked their website before setting out so I was a bit annoyed. They may very well have had good reason but we were very disappointed.

Open Kitchen

Haggerston, Hackney
08/03/2020: this is a college restaurant staffed by trainees and studentssmall menu open kitchen all cooked fresh great open restaurant good servicewe had mushroom bourguignion with mash , chicken kiev poached egg and skin on chips really good and a couple of carafes of house wine would definitely go back reasonably priceda great find
06/03/2020: On what is becoming an annual event four of us who live In London meet a couple who come up to London from Cornwall for a few days. We are all long term friends so it is a catch up and we vary the location. Having read a review in a newspaper we decided to give this establishment a try. It proved to be perfect for us as it was not busy on the night we came. This is probably because it was a really horrible wet cold night and perhaps people are currently getting a little scared of going out. For us however it was great. the room is nicely appointed and attractive and you can see what you are going to get to eat being prepared in the "Open Kitchen".For starters four of us had the beetroot carpaccio and two had the leek and potato soup all of which tasted good. For main courses two had Chicken Kiev, two had grilled fish and two fish stew. All of these dishes also tasted very good and the side orders of hand cut chips were as good as any of us have ever had. It is a minor complaint that the plates could have been warmer. We also all enjoyed quite a lot of wine with our meal. It has to be taken on board that this is a training establishment and people are learning but all of the waiting staff were charming and friendly. It should be noted that payment is by card only. Our food was very reasonably priced. Our wine consumption did push up the bill but that can be managed and all in all it was a very good evening. We intend to visit again on a more clement night.

The Gate Hammersmith

Hammersmith Broadway, Hammersmith and Fulham, 45-60£
12/04/2020: I've written a rave review of this restuarant before, but just wanted to add a note that although the second (and third) visit was just as good, the Islington branch is not the same at all. The food is good, but not up to the same standard, and it has no atmosphere at all. Unlike the Hammersmith branch, which is a lovely room, the Islington one is cold and bare and lacks any real feel. It was also very empty when we were there for lunch which made things worse.
30/03/2020: Unbelievable. Calling them selves best vegetarian restaurant and then only heating up their food (which you can clearly taste!!) is the biggest scam I've ever seen in the hospitality industry. As well they are treating their staff with the worst disrespect. No wonder no one stayed there longer than a couple of months. Get your focus and priorities straight which should be FRESH food and happy staff.

Cathedrals, Southwark
31/10/2019: On the edge of Borough Market. Really interesting choice of handmade traditional pies. The Mowbray is stunning.

Royal Teas

Greenwich West, Greenwich
18/03/2020: nice venue one member of staff was rude the other very nice , nt a very big menu especially for vegans

Riverside Vegetaria

Grove, Kingston upon Thames
23/02/2020: Lovely restaurant, food absolutely wonderful, the food was full of flavour , and plenty of choice and reasonably priced, will definitely be visiting again
21/02/2020: My ex partner and I have been coming to this wonderful restaurant for over 20 years. We've celebrated many an occasion here. It's a special place and it always feels like a treat to eat there. It's cozy in the winter months and absolutely stunning to sit by the open doors during the sunny weather. Watching boats and swans go by. The food has a Sri Lankan influence, serving both vegetarian and vegan options and gluten free too. Richie is always friendly and welcoming to us and everyone. Our favourite is their garlic mushrooms and the generous complimentary garlic bread. Both so tasty.I can't wait until we can return, hopefully this spring. If you want good healthy, tasty food in a beautiful setting, then make sure you pop in and give Riverside a try.Jane & Paul

Vanilla Black

Bread Street,Castle Baynard,Cordwainer,Dowgate,Farringdon Within,Farringdon Without,Queenhithe,Vintry,Walbrook, City of London,Westminster
10/03/2020: My boyfriend and I visited for dinner and opted for the 5 course vegan menu. The first two courses were extremely disappointing. The 2nd course literally clumps of flavoured ice on the plate, which were far too big to eat and impossible to cut, not to mention not particularly enjoyable to eat. The rest of the courses were much better, but still somewhat underwhelming considering the restaurant's reputation and the price tag. There are much better vegan/vegetarian restaurants to visit in London.
08/03/2020: Had the 5 course tasting menu . Actively disliked pretty much every dish. Went with a group of 4 friends ( all of whom eat out regularly and and love most things! ) Not one of us liked it. Most dishes cold ( ie fridge cold ) and dried out ( ie profiterole pastry ) no sense of freshness. The only thing I can say is that some combinations were original ie. mushroom fudge but having said that, it too was horrible. Be very surprised if they get any returning customers. Sadly the service was brusque too.

West End, City of London,Westminster
31/12/2019: I stopped to eat something on the fly in the center of soho and the place intrigued me I entered a lot about them and spoke their language to each other and they looked and laughed I think it will be the first and last time that I come here

Books for Cooks

Colville, Kensington and Chelsea
25/01/2020: Such a great selection and paradise for anybody who loves to cook! A cookbook for any desired cuisine!!

Hardcore Burger and Lobster

Aldersgate,Cheap, City of London,Westminster
14/10/2018: Came here for lunch as it was pretty empty so were hoping for a quick meal. The burgers we had were very good quality though it was let down by the lack of service as no-one was a around when we arrived so we seated ourselves and no-one was around when we needed to leave so left money on the table. I'd recommend the food they serve - just don't come here if you're in a rush.
21/12/2016: I heartily recommend this place: its location just a few yards from London Victoria mean that it is an ideal option alike for both casual commuters and area professionals having lunch or dinner. While I found the menu a little on the pricey side (yes, yes, I know, we're in the shadow of Belgravia here), I would say that the taste and impeccable service (for which they charge a 'cover charge') make up for your lighter pockets post filling your belly.

The Garden Cafe

Bishop's, Lambeth
22/05/2020: Nice place to sit inside or outside, having cup of tea or coffee with sandwich or their sweet cakes- good customer service
11/03/2020: I was expecting to get a sandwich and a cup of tea in a chain cafe. But passed the Garden Cafe and had the best soup of my life, the best bread with masses of butter. Even the tea was amazing. Real tea leaves and such a good taste. If you’re anywhere near you should pay a visit. Needless to say the staff were all excellent too. What a find!

The Larder

Mile End and Globe Town, Tower Hamlets, <20£
29/03/2020: We like The Larder. It's a good old fashioned veggie cafe - it's almost like stepping back into the Seventies. It's laid back, a little messy and awkward, and very amateurish. And that's part of the charm. The food is so-so. A little hit and miss. And communication is very poor. It's not clear on entertering what the set up is. Do you sit first, order first, or what? And what do you order? Where's the menu? Where's the greeting? Where's the help? If you know the place you know what to do, but if you don't then it's a little awkward, and nobody offers to help or even looks toward you and smiles. But the people are nice, and when you do work it out, it's OK. Food is OK rather than great. But whenever we're in the area we like to come here. We like to support veggie cafes, and also we like the relaxed vibe here.
No volveremos

Gallery Cafe

Bethnal Green North, Tower Hamlets
29/01/2020: Firstly, this cafe doesn't take cash only cards which as far as I am aware we have not yet become a cashless society! Secondly, we ordered a curry which took a long time to arrive but had to be returned as the potatoes were barely warm and hard. After another 15 minutes we received the second attempt. The potatoes (about four small potatoes cut into pieces) which were barely covered with a tiny amount of onion and spinach served on a piece of sough dough. There was a spoonful of yogurt on the side. The presentation of the dish was poor and at £8.50 (lunch menu) was very poor value to say the least. Have eaten at a great number of vegan restaurants before this one but I would not recommend it at all. Very disappointed.

Headstone South, Harrow
05/05/2020: I have been visiting this restaurant for a few years and have never been disappointed. Either eating its unbelievable value buffet by myself or having a take away for my family. I was born in India and the food reminds me of great Bombay street food and Bhel Poori houses. Very happy to keep coming back to Sakonis Harrow.
19/02/2020: Thank you throughly enjoyed my lunch yesterday (Tuesday). What lovely staff you have, always a welcome!
