Brilliant shop to come to great atmosphere

Let’s start : We booked this restaurant based on reviews, most of them good so we could not wait to try it, being ourselves fish and seafood lovers. Service: good and welcoming. Wine: a massively overpriced list of wine. Some good some very average and expensive. You won’t find a decent bottle for less than 30 quid Oysters: amazing Starters: we had tuna and octopus - good but the portions are small. Barely tasters. Mains: we ordered two ray wings and a monkfish: Monkfish - very average, not seasoned properly. Slightly overcooked. Okay. Rays - we had to call the manager over and ask her to smell the fish as one of them stunk of ammonia - my husband had to literally spit it out as it was unbearable to eat. The amazing thing in all of this is that they advertise freshly daily delivered fish when we saw kitchen staff getting it out of freezer bags - that explained the ammonia as the fish was definitely not fresh. Ammonia is used to preserve fish when it’s not fresh any longer. The manager gave us the unforgettable excuse that ammonia occurs naturally in fish - this is not the case at all, and unlikely for this lady, I had 2 experience fishermen at my table, coming straight from the Mediterraneans which, to the sound of that, they had a laugh. The other wing was good in fairness and the manager tried to make it up to us nicely by giving us the 2 mains and the sides for free. We appreciated the gesture. Overall- expensive and not great at all! Sorry. The reality is that we will never stamp a foot thru the door of this restaurant ever again. This is the unfortunate reality of messing up with a very expensive menu that does not deliver its promise. Good luck.

Hemos estado recibiendo nuestras cenas de pescado con papas fritas de los viernes de Marlow Rd durante 20 años. Excelente cada vez! Estamos muy mimados en SE 20, ya que hay varios chipspies excelentes, pero Marlow Rd siempre es nuestra primera opción.

The delivery driver was very friendly

Placed an order through Deliveroo. The food tasted not very nice at all. The lemon wedge was mouldy and bits of white and black mould was clearly visible, the mushy peas were stale and cold. The chips and fish tasted of off oil and the fish just fell apart soggy, This used to be a very nice place to get fish and chips from but their standards have gone down hill. Expensive as well. Not good quality or value for money.

The ultimate "colpo grosso" straight to Beckenham’s heart. Fresh fish and house-fried potatoes cooked in clean, tasty oil, and a really warm, down-to-earth vibe. We walked out super happy — or, as we say back home, with small white faces.

Didn’t rate it went there on recommendation and was very average in my opinion Iv been to loads of different places for fish and chips and this was definitely not one of the better ones Iv been to. I was disappointed the chips was hard and the fish batter was like Rock to hard and to thick would I go back not in a rush I wouldn’t. Very overrated unfortunately

When you order through Uber would be nice if they made the effort to wrap the packaging, always comes open even when cold outside.

This was a surprise find. I was actually on my way to a well known noodle restaurant when I came across this little beauty! Spent many happy hours at the OB in Cape town down at the V &A and having checked it was the same chain. I went in! For a Monday it was busy - yes they had an offer on - but I did notice that most people were eating the platters. Very friendly staff, very nice vibe, not too noisy but busy enough to make it enjoyable. Food came freshly cooked, really tasty and thoroughly enjoyable. I had the fried haddock and fries, with a side of grilled veg. Really good value for money and amazing. Would definitely would recommend!
