Big Catch in Bromley

A lovely local restaurant for fish and more. They are attentive to food allergy issues. Thank you! Unfortunately, this restaurant no longer is as attentive to food allergies and intolerances. After eating there frequently for a couple of years (almost on a weekly basis) the same meal, something has changed that affects me significantly. The worst part is when there is unwillingness to accept responsibility and investigate the reasons for the effect leaving me no option but to stop eating at the restaurant.

Excellent service and the food is delicious! Honest, simple and very well done!

Went in tonight after work had 2 large cod with chips and to say we was disappointed would be an understatement the cod was very small for a large and was very oily/greasy and the chips again for a large you expected more and if it wasn’t for salt and vinegar on them they would have tasteless. £28 for these 2 meals and most of it ended up in the bin . Won’t be going back again

Always enjoy my (all too infrequent) trips to The Big Catch: their fish and chips is exemplary and the lime cheesecake a sweet treat afterwards. Soula and her staff always provide top-class service, too. The best restaurant in Beckenham.

This place takes humble fish 'n chips to another level. I'm not usually one for English classics, but the fish and chips from Big Catch have completely changed my mind—proving that even simple classics can be extraordinary. The freshness of the ingredients, coupled with their unique twist on the meal, is simply outstanding. The staff were incredibly friendly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the cleanliness of the place really stood out. It’s a real shame that it’s so far from where I live because I’d be there much more often if I could. Big Catch feels like a high-end spot, but without the hefty price tag. I can't recommend it enough—it's a special place that everyone should try. Absolutely love it ❤️

Visited this lovely little fish restaurant for a romantic meal with my husband for our anniversary. We have been coming for a few years now and I can honestly say The Big Catch never ceases to exceed expectations. A cosy atmosphere that manages to tick both contemporary and traditional boxes with a real family feel. Quality food, generous portions, great selection, served hot and promptly ❤️🥂 another wonderful celebration enjoyed at our favourite restaurant ❤️

I Have been coming to Big Catch for a number of years for the quality food and the warm welcome from the owners and staff. The fish is always of an exceptionally high standard and prepared beautifully. Batter is perfect and the chips are sweet and crispy. This is not just a fish restaurant but a place where regulars and newcomers are welcomed as though you are part of the family. Great place, great atmosphere and great food.

My husband and I enjoyed a truly delightful Saturday evening for our wedding anniversary. It’s not our first visit to this authentic and really quite lovely fish restaurant in Beckenham, as always completely managed to exceed expectations. Polite, professional and welcoming staff, relaxed and comfortable ambience, waiting staff really went the extra mile to ensure our dining experience was one to remember ❤️🥂. Meal was served promptly, piping hot and nicely presented. Great size portions, excellent value for money. Would particularly recommend the battered cod, they really do right get this absolutely spot on! Light crispy batter absolutely delicious 10/10 all round. Another fantastic evening celebration at the Big Catch. Very much looking forward to our next visit.

Interior full of mismatched clutter. It felt like we were eating in a charity shop. Loud music blaring out. Slow service. Expensive Small piece of cod and Heinz ketchup bottle filled with cheap catering sauce. Tartare sauce also tasted poor. Nice bread selection and tea was OK. Avoid.

Just went to this place and i won’t be returning I know fish and chips are expensive these days and im happy to pay but when i takes 40 minutes to get it ready as they forgot my order the size looks like a kids meal and the quality is terrible. Such a shame

Lovely afternoon party of 8 on a Thursday 5.30ish..food was good, but I guess staff were stressed and it took a while to get served and attended to. But overall food was delicious 😋

Chips are nice but their large portion is like a small portion compared to other chippy's in the area.... The price of a large should reflect just that..... A LARGE portion of chips...

As I said I live just down the High Street and the delicious smell of freshly cooked Fish&Chips often pervades my senses whilst on my roof terrace. Tonight I succumbed and had the most wonderful Haddock and chips. Crispy batter as requested chips as good as they come. Only grumble I asked for curry sauce ( a must ) and found a mushy peas when I got home. Great nosh on my doorstep

We love the Big Catch in Beckenham and go all the time. The food is great, the people who work there are lovely, friendly and so welcoming, the place is clean, loads of dishes to choose from, great atmosphere and the portions are decent. The swordfish is bliss with its homemade sauce which such care and attention has gone into. We can't recommend it enough.

Very expensive in my opinion and I do not like the way you have to spend £12 to be able to use a card . Overall good but I know the fish mongers they get their fish from and its average fish at best so the high price isnt really warranted . I think its because its Beckenham why they charge so much .

It was the first time visiting the restaurant and won’t be the last. Staff were brilliant, very kind and attentive. We couldn’t fault the food. The cod batter crisp and not too oily, chips cooked perfectly and portion size spot on. Already looking forward to trying other things on the menu!

I’ve lived in Beckenham for over 20 years, and I can truly say that this restaurant serves the best food in town. The menu is surprisingly varied. I prefer to eat fish, and it’s always fresh and perfectly cooked. The fish soup is a must for a starter. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is always spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money too.

Never fails to impress, most amazing veggie options. Aside from THE BEST CHIPS IN LONDON. We enjoyed a beautifully presented side salad, crispy onion rings with sweet chilli dip, and really delicious and varied selection of grilled veg. My husband also tucked into fresh battered cod with all the trimmings. As always friendly and professional service, second to none and vibrant atmosphere. Once again thoroughly enjoyed romantic meal for two ❤️😊

Good hearty food, had a full English breakfast followed up by bread and butter pudding, simply the best, I cannot recommend enough.

A lovely restaurant, with ample seating for diners. Our meal consisted of a cod with chips and a rock with chips. The batter on the fish was light and of the right thickness to enable the full flavour of both fishes to be enjoyed and appreciated. And the chips were lightly oiled and cooked to perfection. This was our first meal at the Big Catch, and we will be returning! Thanks to all the staff for making this a really enjoyable meal out.

I have no idea how delicious their food is. I haven't been served for 10 mins waiting. Two ladies arrived much later than me were served immediately. What am I invisible?

Brilliant delicious fish and chips meal

We were looking forward to eating here as we had heard good reviews but unfortunately they didn't live up to expectations. We ordered starters, 3 if us ordered the scallops. When they arrived 2 of the plates had 3 scallops, and one only had 2. When we questioned this the chef said it was because they were bigger - they weren't. None were particularly big in size for the price of the starter. The lady who was serving us was so embarrassed she offered us a free drink on the house. Overall we thought for what we got it was overpriced. I must say that the lady serving us was very nice. Unfortunately later that night, the 3 of us that had scallops were all ill with upset stomachs. We wont be going back again.

We've been here a few times. Previously enjoyed the food and vibe. Particularly like the waitress with the sharp grey hair style. However, watch out for the waitress with the short brown bob hair style. Heaven forbid you move before ordering to a table not in the main pathway of the restaurant as you get told off! But at the same time being told you're not being told off. Why waste your money to stay and to be treated like that? We didn't and had a much better time elsewhere in Beckenham.

V nice little place to sample a variety of sea food. Relatively empty on Tuesday evening. The servers were fantastic and kindhearted too. We would love to return and eat here again.

We really enjoyed our lunch there today, fish pie was especially great. If you improve the lighting during the day I'm sure you will attract more clients, a few bright white led bulbs would make a huge difference.

Always warm friendly service. Always amazing when there is only two of us: fresh, hot & crispy F&C. Even take away. Once in a larger group (6) food not so crisp. Great restaurant and as a result, open for takeaway F&C later than any of the other chip shops in Bromley/Beckenham. 👍🏾

A wonderful meal at the Big Catch. Great fish and chips, but so much more than that, this is a wonderful fish restaurant. The owner is a lovely lady, very kind and engages with her customers, many of whom are regulars.

Amazing food at great prices, staff are always friendly and welcoming

The fish and chips were booked in good time but the order was still late. Worse, as we discovered when we opened the packaging, it wasn't the right order. The gluten-free batter (not what we had ordered) was unappealing and the chips mediocre. Absolutely not worth the money. We've used Big Catch in the past and the order has been fine but after this fiasco we won't be using them again.

Beyond amazing! Clean, tidy and the staff were brilliant. Best cod and chips and mushy peas I have ever eaten. The home made curry sauce was perfection. Gotta have curry sauce on your chips, would be rude not too.... Will DEFINITELY be going back!

I had fish and chips today - for the first time in many months. I came to The Big Catch, Beckenham, where I have not been for even longer. The meal was superb!! I rated it 4 out of 5, only on the basis that nowhere is perfect, but if I had been able to rate it 4.99, I would have done so!!! The best fish and chips I have ever had!! I will be coming again soon, to be sure!!!

Awful - witnessed waiter bring someone's leftover plate of chips from restaurant area and man who was serving in takeaway part threw the old chips back into the fryer! Will never come here again. Cooking area looked messy and unclean also. Savaloy sausage was cold and hard as if it had been left out for days.

We hadn't been here since before covid and we were really disappointed. To start, the menu has changed and the prices are much higher. One of the starters, sardines, were undercooked so really hard to get the spine out. We had a shared fish platter for main and most of it was overcooked and hard to bite into and yet somehow the calamari was undercooked inside the overcooked breadcrumbs. The whitebait were like mini bullets. It used to be a great restaurant that was middle range in price, now its like its competing with the higher priced restaurants but the quality just isn't the same. Very disappointing

13 April 2023. This is my second time in this shop. The fish I just had was good - exactly the reason why I came back, but the service I received this evening was bad. The lady at the counter (facing the customers) taking take-away orders and dispatching customer orders was not nice. I could sense how people treat me, and I, definitely, could feel from the moment I ordered my drinks (5:45pm) to the time I was telling this staff not to give me too much chips, down to when I was asking for serviettes (5:54pm) that I was treated rudely and mean! Her voice intonations, her facial expression and her gestures showed that she was not happy to answer my questions about the drinks, and me wondering if I got serviettes in my paper bag- the reason why I asked (I only got one thin piece, by the way). This attitude of staff towards me - a Big Catch customer was unacceptable! I will never waste my time writing my review here if my experience was very delightful. I do not recommend this shop and I will never come back again.

My local chippy. Always good food and excellent friendly staff. Fish is frequently cooked to order which gives me a chance to have a Peroni while I'm waiting. Highly recommend 10 out of 10.

Went for dinner last night. Prompt service, good atmosphere and the food was amazing. They have more to offer- not your bog standard fish&chips and the drinks were great too . Our waitress (Dana) was so friendly and attentive- would highly recommend.

The restaurant serves more than fish and chips, wine and beer menu, share platters with tiger prawns...cod bites...food delicious. Family friendly....There is a takeaway shop as well if you dont want to sit . Staff warm and friendly good service.

The Big Catch really is a cut above the rest. My husband and I have dined here many times and always revive such a warm welcome from the waitress. Great vibe and ambiance, friendly, efficient staff and the most AMAZING fish and chips in London. Great menu choices that put a contemporary twist on many traditional favourite fish dishes. Whole heartedly recommend 10/10 😊 always a fabulous night out!

I have seriously never tasted fish soup that comes close to the Big Catches home made recipe! Had a marvellous evening with family and friends, in the most warm and welcoming environment. Service excellent and the most delicious food. I had grilled rock as a main, which was cooked to absolute perfection. Will definitely return.

Really unpleasant customer service at the counter while collecting the order. Staff was very impatient and rude answering questions and made personal remarks which was very unprofessional.

Lovely local restaurant with a cosy atmosphere and cool displays. The cod fish and chips were of excellent quality and fresh. Not to mention the cheesecake that we ordered and the Panna cotta raspberry ice cream. The cheesecake was surprisingly light and soft. Very divine. Prices were reasonable and the staff were very lovely.

We had a wonderful eating experience this evening at the Big Catch. We ordered cod and chips with mushy peas. It was clearly very fresh and the batter was thin and very crispy! By far the best fish and chips we have ever tasted. We dined inside the restaurant as we prefer this to take away. The service was outstanding and we loved the friendly staff and Cosy atmosphere. No doubt we will be returning very soon!

Went there sometime ago,then again last week.Still at the good standard as before, Proper fish n chips! You can taste the quality! No shortage of tartar sauce and not a fiddly plastic packet in sight. Bit short on the capers tho and girls said sausage tasted better than it looked, Not masses of chips on the plates but pretty sure wouldn't have been a problem asking for a few more. Overall really good service and food to match.Left a tip 👍 often forgotten by the card people. Was fairly busy by 6 when we left Recommended by ME

The chips I was served were undercooked and absolutely saturated in oil, I squeezed one and the oil literally ran out of it like a sponge. So disappointing as this was meant to be a treat as it's not cheap. They were so bad they went straight in the bin, had to wash my hands 3 times to get the oil off.

I have been going to the Big Catch in Beckenham for years now. The food is always very, very good, however the waiting staff service which was always good is now poor. Seems to be two waitresses always on duty, the older waitress is always so cheerful and helpful,I would employ her anytime in my business is a real asset to the Big Catch, the other waitress for the last three visits is miserable and gives you the impression that she doesn't really want to be their!!, I haven't seen her smile for ages now and her welcoming skills are not good either. The prices are not cheap in the Big Catch although the food is always fresh and very nice. The waitressesing staff should be friendly and attentive at this cost, its a shame that the experience is let down by the waiting staff I may have to look at spending my hard earned money at another eaterie in Beckenham, so many to choose from these days from now on. I know the owner and I will mention next time I bump into her in Beckenham. This is the only reason I have scored the Big Catch so low. My advise is if the waitress doesn't really enjoy her job go and get yourself retrained to an alternative career, you may be happier in your work and start to smile and greet customers in a professional way.

I have done take away and dine in multiple times at Big Catch, their take away is superb value, and dining in is a fantastic experience. Food is fresh, well fried, and fairly priced. I prefer Big Catch over Fish! Kitchen in Borough market. Love their batter, the smell of deep frying in peanut oil, and their friendly and kind staff.

We come to big catch nearly every Friday for years and never disappointed! It has the best fish and chips - always very fresh and tasty. The place is so clean and it has the best service. The staff here are lovely, they are very friendly and kind - especially the Romanian lady, with a big smile on her face no matter how busy she is. We always feel welcomed here. Unfortunately moving out of Beckenham and will miss big catch!! :(

After a lovely time at the cinema watching the new Downton Abbey film in Beckenham we decided to walk along for a meal at The Big Catch. Well we are so glad we did. Absolutely faultless, really nice people work here. The staff were very jolly and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food…… well I’m dribbling thinking about it. I can honestly say 10/10. A really nice experience and we will 100% return. Thank you all at the Big Catch 👍

On a recent visit to the resturant, we received great service, the food was lovely and also reasonably priced.

The staff here really care about pleasing you - although just two of us, we were offered the alternative of a four place table - and are consistently friendly and keen to ensure you have a good time. Having had a late lunch I went straight into the spicy fish cakes and chips, washed down with a bottle of Fuller's 'London Pride'. It was delightful to contrast the flavoursome fish cakes with the big hand-cut chips. Everything was piping hot and properly cooked. I look forward to coming back for a more extended meal.

My cousins treated me to a meal at one of their favourite local restaurant, The Big Catch. Reasonable priced items, friendly staff and good portion sizes. I had the Thai Fish Cakes and Fish and Chips. Will definitely visit again.

i tried this place last year for takeaway food chips were hard and not nice i thought they might have improved but they have not chips again were left overs hard and burnt not worth the money please do yourself a favour dont waste your money on this establishment . very dissapointed . not good for takeaway food

This is our go to restaurant and takeaways for fish and chips in Beckenham. The fish is always fresh and the chips are a generous portion. The breaded scampi is excellent. The two ladies who serve are so friendly and welcoming!
