Scones are amazing ! And lovely warmed up ! Love this wee place ! Very welcoming staff and a lovely cozy wee place to have a cuppa and catch your breath in between shopping lol

The haddock batter was soggy and oil loaded the chips were dry and wizened and Luke warm ! Clearly reheated from the night before ! Not cheap at over £20 either for two portions ! When I rang to complain and said re chips re heated the owner just said “ OK IF YOU SAY SO AND PUT THE PHONE DOWN “ appalling . DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS !!!! The worse fish and chips we have ever had ! He doesn’t deserve to be in business ! Most of ours went in the bin !!!

Ordered food 2 hours ago not ordering off these again my daughter is getting her tea at 21.49 she is in bed now very disappointed with the service they didn't even offer any discount on our tea would not recommend this chip shop .

Tuve que esperar detrás de alguien que había ordenado cocinar todas las hamburguesas del lugar. Esto parecía ser lo único que podía hacer el asistente, no me preguntaba qué quería ni ayuda alguna. Una vez que esperé la cantidad de tiempo que aparentemente tenía que esperar, el asistente consideró preguntarme a mí y CADA persona en la tienda lo que querían, y luego se fue a la parte trasera de la tienda para poner pescado en el que nadie tenía pidió - entonces ella regresó y consideró servirme. Ahora aquí es donde comienza la diversión y puedo perder a algunos de ustedes aquí, ya que todos ustedes pueden ser fanáticos de leer las paredes detrás del mostrador, pero yo no. Claramente, hay especiales para la hora del almuerzo y estos, como ahora sé, después de haberme dicho esto de manera bastante grosera, están en algún lugar de la pared posterior. En realidad, no sé por qué el asistente se estaba molestando conmigo por esto, ya que había pedido algo que estaba en el almuerzo especial, pero simplemente le repetí mi pedido y me cobró la misma cantidad pero sin explicarme los especiales y que yo sepa lo que son Encontré esto grosero y muy inútil. Si el asistente aquí no puede tener algún tipo de servicio al cliente, entonces no debería trabajar en la industria de servicios. Ah, y la comida tampoco era buena: chips poco cocidos cocinados en algo que no sabe bien y una salchicha que fue parte del aterrizaje del Día D. Vaya a esta comida para llevar de comida mediana y pruebe el servicio al cliente y las delicias gastronómicas, pero tenga cuidado.

Used to go here it used to be lovely. Not sure if they have new owners but went here the other night as my regular was closed, never ever again. Ended up binning most of it and going elsewhere. Forgot part of my order didn’t realise until I’d got home. Most of the chips were rock solid and tasted like they’d been left there for days, my son cried because they were so inedible. I don’t normally leave reviews but this ticked me off as I paid £18 for some of my food to be missing and the rest of it to taste horrific. Rated one would have rated minus if this was possible

We love this hotel for the wonderful location & the bedrooms – we stay a few times a year and always book a beautiful deluxe sea view room. This review is for the Lawn restaurant which has recently changed to a new menu - the website invited us to “Savour the finest Italian cuisine with a menu that marries the flavours of Italy with quality Scottish produce” - we love Italian cuisine so were really looking forward to this! Sadly it was a big disappointment – very far from the ‘finest cuisine’ they promised! The focaccia bread brought to us was burnt to a crisp and emitting a scorched smell, it was swiftly replaced but not much improved! The starters of arancini and mussels were just ok, the main course of pizza was totally inedible – it was burnt on the edges, sloppy and greasy in the middle. The restaurant manager came to apologise and kindly offered anything else from the menu but by this time we were so discouraged and fed up we thought it safest to leave it there. Really hope this restaurant is much improved in time for our next visit! Perhaps a change in the menu….if perhaps Italian cuisine is not the kitchen or chef’s forte?

Dropped in for a late breakfast on a Saturday morning, lucky to get a table as it was almost fully booked. Sat outside which was no problem as the weather was fine. Ordered the full breakfast and the wife had the poached eggs. Had a small but not unexpected wait for our food to arrive as they were extremely busy, but we were in no hurray. Always happy to support local businesses that produce good food with good service.

This cafe is overpriced, dry food and rude staff. Will never eat anything here again. Would not reccomend don’t waste your time or money.

We visited the Old Chippy on 19th April after a visit to Beamish (we traveled down from Scotland). It was our first visit and we found it by accident. What a very pleasant surprise. The owner and his wife were warm and friendly and the food was excellent and well-priced. All the food was cooked fresh and was very tasty. Thank you for a great experience.

Absolutely terrible!!!! Waste of food and the owner is an absolute disgrace! He hasn't got a clue, rude, and tries to charge you every penny he can!!! He didn't want to separate the cod with the chips because he didn't want to use another sheet of paper to wrap it. Hadock was undercooked and soggy. Chips soggy too, and the owner is really stingy with the salt and vinegar! Large chips, small cod, and medium haddock nearly £20 quid, definitely not worth it, and you get charged for the 10p bag! Cash only too!!! Joke of a place, last time ever! Never again!!!! F that!!!!

recent dinner there. great location and attractive room. staff very poorly trained and sloppy in their service. worst of all - the food. I got sick from the oysters that "had been brought up today from a local fisherman". the meal was cold, tasteless fish and chips and very overpriced. it was a struggle to get the staff to come to the table. probably the worst of all our Sky dinners.

My mum took my two kids today- she was in horror and panic when she couldn't find my three year old because he had wondered off with another family- and was only discovered in the main reception of the commonwealth pool. for your children's safety don't use this soft play. Such a disgrace my heart aches at all the horrific endings today could have had- absolute shame on this so called child friendly venue.
