the staff were nice and impressively on it for such a busy restaurant, really impressive, can’t be an easy job. Not really sure what I expected in terms of the food, but not the wettest halloumi I’ve ever seen. Never seen halloumi wallow in its own crapulence before. Genuinely couldn’t face eating it. That said, again, the staff were brilliant and the place kept me comfortable and warm while I waited for my train.

Today I purchased 6 cheese straws from Cooplands in Driffield. These cheese straws were then carried home safely in amongst the rest of my shopping from various other shops this morning. When it came time for my sister to eat these cheese straws, she put 3 on her plate. She ate two of the 3 with no problem and then when she got to the third cheese straw she took two bites and let out a very loud “OW!” as she had bitten into something hard whilst chewing her cheese straw. She proceeded to spit out the mouthful of cheese straw she was chewing and looking at the mouthful on her plate to see if there was anything there. She gasped and said “Oh my god thats a stone” I said “don't be ridiculous theres no way” and then she picked it out of the chewed up mouthful of cheese straw and held out her hand and said “look A STONE” I couldn't believe my eyes , she was right it was a stone which she had bitten into whilst trying to enjoy her last cheese straw. Me and my sister, Jess, are appalled, horrified and disgusted that this has slipped past the quality checks. This stone could have seriously injured her teeth so thank god she realised and spat it out. This unfortunately puts an end to us purchasing baked goods at our local Cooplands. My sister is to quote her words “too traumatised to eat anything from Cooplands again”. I hope this gets picked up and reflected on and that it doesn’t happen to any other Cooplands customers. Many thanks.

Mothers day. So slow service, half an hour at least between starters and mains to desserts. Asked multiple times for items once for water and then again for the bill. Too many booked in at one time staff couldn't cope. Multiple familys turning up and tables not free for them. Food was lovely though so can't fault that.

Impresionante y subestimado.

If you have 4 legs, bark and wag your tail then you get the full attention of the barmaid. If you are a punter who wants to buy a beer then you have no chance. Unfortunately the 'lady' has more interest in dogs than serving customers. Come in woof woof have a dog treat, I had a rottweiler blah blah blah oh you want me to serve you a beer sorry wait a minute I'm doing something extremely important on my laptop. Avoid this place, do yourself a favour and go to the bar on the trainstation it's cheaper better beer and you won't have to listen to the pathetic woman blah blah blah about dogs

I booked afternoon tea here as a valentines gift for my wife. To be clear and fair here; I’m not a fan of afternoon tea at all - I think it’s a very expensive meal for what you usually get. But my wife loves it and I wanted to treat her as part of our long weekend in Yorkshire. This hotel is lovely from what we saw, it’s beautifully decorated, it’s very clean, and the staff are friendly, but our meal was very disappointing. We were the only people in the entire dining area which seemed a little odd, but at least we had privacy. Our choices of actual tea were made (English breakfast for me and gingerbread chai for my wife) and these were delicious. But, and it’s a very big But; the food was very disappointing. Salmon sandwiches and chicken sandwiches both a bit underwhelming but palatable, but a tiny croissant filled with a minuscule amount of ham and cheese and a pot of very cold ratatouille with 2 cubes of feta cheese on the top which was revolting and just weird! Then the desserts - some quite nice pastries but the highlight of any afternoon tea should be the scones and they were quite frankly terrible. The fruit scones were both absolutely rock hard on one side so slicing them was a joke because you just couldn’t get your knife past half way through! Definitely not fresh scones (possibly frozen and reheated?) Nobody asked us if we were enjoying our food and it wasn’t until I paid that I was able to point out our disappointment. I was told it would be passed back to the kitchen…. Would we go again? Definitely not for afternoon tea that’s for sure.
