Very unpleasant experience Service was really unwelcome and very unhappy. Food not really at the level aspected for a place of that level. To be noticed that also the table behind us was really unhappy with the service and made it clear to the server. It’s a shame as the place has a very good potential. Definitely not coming back or suggesting it to friends

I recently took my mother here for her 80th birthday and we were both extremely impressed. We arrived a little early (just before the dining room opened for dinner) but we were seated straight away and the service throughout was friendly and efficient. The food and wine were excellent and I especially liked the vegan options. We didn't stay at the hotel but the parts I saw looked lovely and well-maintained. I'm glad I chose this restaurant and would happily visit again for a special occasion.

A lovely Mother’s Day lunch! One of the nicest me and my family have had. Service was fantastic, Michelle was incredibly friendly!!! Truly a lovely day out

We had Sunday lunch here in a lovely room. The food was very good: a really nice French market table and a good selection of main courses and desserts; vegetarians are well catered for here. The service could have been more professional at times, especially as the restaurant was rather quiet. Overall we had a very pleasant experience.

We wanted to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and after reading a write up in a local magazine we decided to go to Hotel Du Vin for a sunday lunch. We arrived in good time and the lady (Manageress) showed us to a table she had on a black dress which was not clean, should have left then, there were only 2 tables occupied. My husband and I had the market table which was very good, Prawns in shells, smoked salmon amongst other things really good. We waited for the main roast beef after being asked if we like it pink or well done, my son and I asked for it pink hubby wanted it well done. Hubby liked his but our's was rare we sent it back twice, They bought mine out and I could not eat it, it was as tough as old boots. 3rd time lucky but it had so much gristle I could not eat it so bagged it up for the dog,by this time the veggies were stone cold and not replaced. My son had a very small desert which he said was nothing to write home about. The bill £101.80 was paid. NEVER AGAIN. I wish I had read the reviews here before going.

For our last night in York we booked for dinner at the Bistro du Vin anticipating a great experience to round off our stay. Things started well. The waiter asked if we had any food allergies and I told him I was allergic to shellfish. He took care to ensure that the dishes I ordered did not contain any. The food was wonderful.Full marks to the chef. Sadly the rest of the service was not. After our main course was delivered we were ignored. The restaurant was not busy (At most 3 other couples). More than 20 minutes after we would have expected to have our dishes cleared, we finally got some attention. We did not even have the option of expressing our disappointment by not tipping as a 10% food service charge was included in the bill! Not at all what we would have expected of a restaurant that is part of this group.

I appreciate we are coming out of lockdown and limited choice on the menuBut I think the service for one could have been better, we seemed to be slightly rushed.We were not offered drinks from the bar before we we where shown to seats and table.It was a lot of the little touches missing as well , like not been offered bread with the mussel starter.Choice of sauces to have with the steak Presentation of the main was poor as though it had just been slung on the platesSaying this the redeeming thing the rib eye was cooked to perfection Will we go back, probably not for a long while as there are other places to go and try in town

Reservé HDV porque soy un fanático de los edificios protegidos y cosas por el estilo, había escuchado cosas geniales sobre este hotel.Se le dio una habitación anexa (esto no se mencionó en ninguna parte del sitio web o al hacer la reserva) obviamente, esta habitación NO está en el edificio listado sino en un edificio adyacente, de estructura moderna. Muebles de pino suave, sin mini bar, muy decepcionante.Podríamos haber pagado la mitad del precio de HDV por una habitación sosa en otro lugar.Ofrecido una actualización (si queríamos pagar más) ?? ‍ ?? Vergonzoso. 10. 00 cargo por estacionamiento en el lugar también.No volveré. El nivel de la habitación es terrible por el precio pagado y la expectativa de alojarse en un edificio catalogado de grado II.

Been to Edinburgh HDV and was excellent so booked for York and was disappointed. Service and food average to say the least.

Food was ok, reduced menu due to current Covid, it all just lacked something and cn't quite put my finger on on - probably won't try it again.

It was a Valentines day meal.. It was full without being crowded and with a buzz that was not noisy. Food was top notch with discrete service. Always worth returning to.

I don’t think I have had such bad service in a good hotel ever. The main course was okay, but massively over priced for 6 scampi at £16.95 . Our main course was not cleared for over 40mins since we had finished. We actually left before the plates were clear. We didn’t even get an apology after 3 other couples had either complained or walked out. Quite frankly it was a disgrace.

The cassoulet was shocking, an incinerated single small piece of duck, possibly, in baked beans, a piece of belly pork definitely added only at end of cooking, and a tough piece of sausage. Escargots without any discernible garlic butter. Wine and chicken dish and crepes forestière were ok. In addition a completely inebriated customer sat nearby, a regular apparently, made us all feel very uncomfortable. Such a shame, Mum's 91st birthday supper, and we made a mistake.

Alojarnos aquí decidimos comer aquí una noche también, y qué gran decisión. Tal comida sabrosa y cocinada a la perfección, excelente selección de vinos y licores. El personal era muy amable y atento, siempre dispuesto a ofrecer consejos sobre qué pedir. Nos quedaríamos y comer aquí de nuevo en un instante.

Comimos en el bistro como parte de nuestra cena, pan y desayuno. Genial ver que el restaurante ha tenido una renovación y nos sentamos en una cómoda banqueta.La elección del menú es variada y también hay un buen menú de precio fijo fijo. El menú infantil también tenía muchas opciones.El servicio fue excelente, muy amable y acogedor.Recomendaría el zapatero de pera, manzana y mora. ¡Perfecto para el otoño!

También un agradecimiento especial a Charley en la recepción, está totalmente adaptado a la hospitalidad, tiene una actitud encantadora y acogedora y se desvivió por ayudarnos. Nos encanta el hotel du vin, cada uno es único, pero conserva la sensación personal de un hotel boutique. Siempre bellamente decorado, limpio y muy cómodo, esta es nuestra 4ª estadística este año. . . . volveremos

The bad: the food is to salty, I heard other people complaining about this as well. Over priced food for what you get by a long way. Service charge should be an option and at the discretion of the customer not just included on the bill - not clear if it can be removed.The good: The building is lovely. The restaurant atmosphere is pleasant. Ample car parking. Bar area is nice. However, the good points don’t make up for the bad. The main thing about going out for a meal is the food and it just wasn’t good enough.

Mis amigos y yo visitamos para el almuerzo del domingo de Pascua. Éramos un grupo de 10 incluyendo 4 niños.No había nadie para darnos la bienvenida al llegar y, aunque el restaurante estaba casi vacío, tuvimos que volver al bar para pedir que nos sentaran. También había un olor peculiar en el área del bar, tal vez tenían problemas de drenaje.El servicio fue horrible. ¡Simplemente desagradable! Fue tan vergonzoso que estuviéramos recibiendo amigos durante la Pascua y tuvieron una larga distancia para viajar a casa después de la comida. Estuvimos allí por más de 3 horas, afortunadamente reservamos nuestra mesa a las 12:30, Dios sabe a qué hora nos habríamos podido escapar si nos hubiéramos sentado más tarde. ¡Aunque nos dimos cuenta de que a algunas fiestas les servían el plato principal al mismo tiempo que nosotros cuando estaban sentadas a las 13:30! ! !El servicio fue tan lento que la hija de 3 años de nuestras amigas se quedó dormida cuando se quedó tan sola junto a la espera de su comida.Simplemente no era correcto que nos dejaran esperando y esperando cuando teníamos niños pequeños en nuestro grupo. Se portaron muy bien pero tenían hambre y se aburrieron después de estar sentados durante casi 2 horas antes de que se sirviera el plato principal.La camarera principal era oficiosa y muy desagradable. Tuve que pedir amablemente que sirvieran nuestros platos principales o tendríamos que irnos.Cuando nos quejamos, intentaron justificar el servicio lento ya que el almuerzo del domingo es una “experiencia” de 4 horas. Aunque vivo muy cerca y solía visitar con frecuencia para tomar una copa, cenar y tomar el té de la tarde.Desde entonces, le he enviado un correo electrónico al hotel para informarles que existe una necesidad de reentrenamiento para el personal, pero el gerente general no ha respondido. Por favor gastar su dinero en otro lugar.

Very nice boutique 4 star hotel, within easy distance of town centre and train station. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The residents bar didn’t close and singing was allowed. Rooms were spotless and bathroom was excellent.

The French vegetable soup we had to start was tasteless however gluten free bread was available. The lamb main was better but the cod arrived encrusted in burnt sesame seeds, which made it inedible. The manageress was apologetic but we left and went home to eat instead.

we were very impressed with the service afforded to us by the reception staff and the restaurant staff, very helpful and friendly. Food excellent.

Great meal, what a lovely place for an evening meal, the staff were attentive and knowledgable, really enjoyed it.

Fui con mi pareja y otra familia un sábado por la noche y no tuvimos problemas para obtener una mesa en el día. . . . . El interior es encantador y muy bien hecho, el servicio también fue amable y atento, muy bien hecho allí. . . . La comida no era del mismo nivel aunque por desgracia. Encontramos el menú bastante limitado ya que no hay platos de pollo para ser vistos. Tenía setas en masa fermentada como entrante y, finalmente, por falta de elección para mi gusto, una hamburguesa como plato principal y no tenía ningún postre, ya que de nuevo nada me tentaba.

Visited when we came to the theatre. Rooms a little dark but nice . Comfy bed nice toiletries and towels. Nice nexpresso machine delicious coffee. For the tea lovers nice selection of teas . Fresh milk in the fridge. Mini bar with good selection of drinks . Nice basket with nuts chocolates etc. Breakfast reasonably priced and delicious. Will be back.

Very good food with a great ambiance, had sautéed mushrooms to start followed by moules, all cooked to perfection.

Staff were great, the place was very empty so no real ambiance though still very pleasant. The food was ok....fish and onion soups delicious, squid ink risotto just ok.

Just spent two fabulous nights at York HDV! Rooms everything we expected, bistro was excellent but most of all it was the staff who made our stay most memorable. All staff were brilliant but special thanks and mention to India & Jade - they always took the time to ask how our day had been and showed a genuine interest and they looked after us so well in the bistro - thank you ladies! We hope to visit again in the future.

The worst service and sub standard food that 6 friends and I have experienced in a very long time! We had to keep getting up and asking for basic services like having water as they kept forgetting, remind them to open and pour the champagne they just left in the bucket at the end of the table, etc. The french onion soup and mussels were completely tasteless, the scallops just awful and the list goes on!

Seven of us had a delicious meal, great choice if meat and fish dishes, and was fantastic! Cheeseboard was outstanding!

We have had mixed food on our stays at the HDV group so when we booked on an offer with a set menu included we were a little apprehensive however this food was superbly cooked.

Starter was excellent (French onion soup) Steak was served cold and sent back. I am fairly sure when represented the steak had just been heated up again which dried it out. Not impressed and will not return there. When we arrived denied all knowledge of our booking through Opentable.

This is the 4th or 5th time here. We stayed before getting the train to the Newcastle branch. Never disappoints. Always Comfy and clean. Recommend every time.

In true English character, the food is lovely and plentiful. Breakfast was always delicious and when we took out time for afternoon tea... the scones and clotted cream made us never want to leave.

great selection for continental and cooked breakfasts available and the eveing meals had two menus, the staff were very good and accomadating to our needs

Nice location for visiting sights in York, a five minute walk to the city walls. Room was spacious but really hot (above the kitchen?) so had to keep aircon on most of the time. The staircase outside is quite squeaky and so our room (Schloss....) was not ideal for light sleepers. The bed was comfortable but the paintwork in the bathroom and toilet was quite grubby. There was also partly used shampoo in the bathroom on arrival. The food was good but at dinner service was slow despite there only being a few guests eating- we had to ask for our plates to be cleared. We did enjoy our stay but this was mainly due to the location- however for the cost we would have expected more efficient service and a higher standard of finish within the room.

It was early evening daylight when we arrived, but as the light faded it was difficult to read the menu or to actually see our meals. The food was good and well prepared, but there was too much on the plate. Not being able to see it and not being able to finish it rather spoiled the experience. No complaints about the staff or the quality of the food.

The service in the restaurant was excellent and the food okay. I was disappointed by the the limited selection of gluten free food.

We booked for four people at the restaurant for Saturday lunch prior to going to the Races.

We were 5 friends who wanted to celebrate a birthday and were extremely dissatisfied with the tea we were presented with. We are all local and have always liked the Hotel du Vin, the bars and outside spaces are lovely.

Was staying at the hotel for a wedding anniversary trip to York. Hotel great, dinner not so much.

It’s rather quiet and very limited menu. It’s was all received well by the three of us but nothing to give the wow factor. Overall it’s decent but not fantastic

Pasamos una noche maravillosa, el servicio y la comida era de primera categoría! Tuve la ensalada con un trozo de salmón escalfado, era divino! Mi marido y mi hija tenía el filete! Los postres eran preciosas y de nuevo no pude quejar del servicio! Me preguntaba cómo nuestra comida era por dos personas y si necesitábamos cualquier cosa! El personal era excelente y muy atento! ! Que viven en la calle y uso para frecuentar el restaurante mucho cuando abrió, pero debido a dos comidas no estar a la par de que había sido dándole un perderse! Sin duda tienen algo cambiado, ya que el ambiente, la comida y el personal, fue simplemente excelente! Gracias por una noche maravillosa y volveremos! ! !

Metimos en una cena y realmente lo disfruté. El menú tenía una buena selección, así que no sienta la necesidad de ir a la carta, y las raciones eran decentes. Tuve algo de diversión explorando la extensa lista de vinos y tenía 3 vinos diferentes. El personal era amable y bien informado sobre sus vinos, lo cual contribuyó a mi visita en solitario. Esta fue mi primera vez en un hotel/Bistro du Vin y sin duda regresaría - incluso con amigos!

My wife and I stayed for two nights and the stay and welcoming was incredible. All staff are very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The suite we stayed in was spacious and well fitted out to a very high standard. My first time at a du vin hotel and would definitely stay there or any of there hotels again. We dined at the restaurant and the food was incredible (Chateaubriand for 2). Again the staff were sensational with us and made our stay that even more special. So I thank you guys for this and will look forward to seeing you again. All in all a wonderful and relaxing experience. Lee and Jo from Cheshire.

we had evening meal and breakfast .plenty of choice on both occasions ,all very well cooked and presented and service was brilliant

We stayed for 2 nights in the Chapel Down room and it was stunning! The room was large and beautifully decorated. Large superking bed, quality furniture, large tv, chairs with footstools. Nespresso machine was a fab addition, also had kettle and nice selection of teas, biscuits etc. Mini bar was also well stocked.

We had the four course Sunday lunch with a nice bottle of wine. Slight issue with service initially but all went well quite quickly. The soup was very good, the Continental Table, with antipasti, lots of seafood, vegetarian dishes etc was great. All four of us had different main courses and desserts and we were all very impressed. A good deal for the price, would definitely go again.

Took a city break in York and stayed here. Lovely room and bathroom, (high quality shower!) very clean, and friendly staff without them being overbearing. Will 100% be staying here again

We came with family and everyone enjoyed everything, Nephew said his steak was perfect, Niece loved the burger, no one left anything, but.... Husband and I had the bouillabaisse and instead of it being a soup, it was very thick, you couldn't even call it a stew, it hardly had any liquid at all. We still ate it and it was perfectly nice but not quite what we were expecting. We didn't have desert as we were quite full but the family did and didn't leave anything so I think I can say they enjoyed every bit.

Went to the restaurant here in mid December 2017. Expected it to be busy on a Friday night but far...

I was looking forward to an evening off cookng over Christmas and the Hotel du Vin, on the Mount in York, seemed a good choice. The hotel is small but interesting with intimate rooms to sit and relax and also a beautiful conservatory. The bistro restaurant is attractive and has a comfy feel with the wine bottles adorning one wall. But it didn't feel particularly festive. We were shown to a table and given the menu. The wine waiter approached too soon while we were choosing our mains, he was keen but not very friendly . This was true of all the staff,they looked like they needed a rest and could not really be bothered. There was a restaurant manager who was working the staying guests but he didn't bother to speak to us , no good evening or how were your meals. Disappointing customer care all round except for the waiter who served the cheese who acted like his colleagues should have. Now the food , good in parts but did not live up to serving with such an extensive wine list. We all felt it lacked finishing touches. The crab cake was huge and off putting, should be split into two and also served with a few leaves. The beef bourguignon was one piece of dry tough meat in a drab looking sauce with some kind of unknown vegetable and the venison game pie was a really uninspiring colour. None of it was well cooked so we felt it was the chefs night off!

The second time I've eaten at a HdV recently, andyet again disappointed with the food. How do they get AA rosettes? Much better options in town.

We only stayed a night but it was a lovely cosy hotel. Lots of very interesting little rooms.staff were very attentive and knowledgeable about York and the hotel itself.very comfy beds.

Por último vine aquí hace 3 años y pensé que sería bueno tener un rápido almuerzo de Navidad con mi personal. Llegamos y tuvimos que oscilan en torno a en la recepción. Nadie vino. Ya eran las 12:45 pm. Finalmente seguido otra pareja que también estaban esperando en una habitación bien ventilada, lejos de la principal, el cual fue totalmente bistro vacía. Si el primer escrutinio impresiones entonces no era un buen comienzo. Solo estábamos 2 mesas en todo el bistro? ? ?

Called at the Du Vin Hotel on the mount in York on Wednesday 6th Dec 2017 for pre meal drinks, we were on our way to the Fabulous Italian restaurant across the road Valentinos. Our friends arrived first and had their drinks started before we got there, R had a bottle of Moretti lager J had a glass of white wine, when we arrived the barman was just leaving the bar so we had a wait of about 5 mins before we ordered our drinks I also ordered a bottle of Moretti and my wife had a glass of prosecco. When we finished our first round I asked our friends if they wanted the same again, I said my beer had been served warm so I was going to have wine, R asked if I could get him a cold beer. I asked the barman if he had a cold beer as the first beers had been served warm, he did find one at the back of the fridge making the excuse that the fridge had been restocked just 15 mins before, now I am no expert on how to stock fridges but it is obvious to me that the beers should be rotated so the cold ones are at the front. The barman seemed completely disinterested in the fact that he had not done his job properly and gave the impression that he would rather be somewhere else indeed anywhere else. The bar was pretty quiet (not surprisingly ) no festive music ( no music at all) just 2 guys having a drink with some free snacks, I think they were hotel guests. No snacks were offered in our direction. We often like to have drinks in hotel bars as you normally get well served drinks at all be it slightly higher prices.when we picked up out tab we thought it was expensive even by hotel standards, just short of £42 for warm beer and service without a smile. We went on to have a great meal across the road for just over £100 including a couple of cold Italian beers, Moretti by coincidence a bottle of wine and 2 courses for 4 people. I don’t think we will be calling at the Du Vin again. I am writing this on Sunday after looking at our bar bill again and guess what, 2 drinks had been missed off by the disinterested barman.

We love the hotel du vin , the people are great and it’s a lovely location but I am afraid to say that the standard of the food lets it down. We recently had a bar meal ,a chicken salad .it had to be sent back because there were more bones than chicken. We went again for dinner and took a friend. He ordered a rib eye which at 27.50 should be perfect , it was underdone and cold . I asked for a salmon dish with chips, it was off the menu and a favour to me so I acknowledge the service , but the delivery and cooking was appalling

Wonderful dining experience, with great ambiance, food, wine and service. Highly recommend. 3-course evening menu was £30.95,but worth every penny.

The restaurant and bars are situated in a different building to the guests accommodation so this seems inconvenient in the winter and cold weather. No spa but good sized room. Restaurant is good but not particularly good value.

We'd previously had a poor experience at this hotel but our complaints had been very well handled by the management so we gave it another try a year later.On this occasion we had a great time. Three generations of the family went for the Sunday lunch four course menu and found it to be good value and excellent quality. We all chose tomato soup to start, followed by the rather novel experience of the market table buffet. We then had steak, salmon and sweetcorn and courgette fritters as our mains and profiteroles, Creme brûlée and apple tart with calvados ice cream for pudding. All the staff were lovely and we'd definitely go again.

After bad experiences in the past we had a long period of not going to Hotel du Vin.However decided to give it another go and what a change so we went twice in short order.Food quality unrecognisable since previous visits - nice presentation, high quality and beautifully cooked. Service superb with knowledgeable, helpful and professional attentive ( but not over so) staff.

Bar and dinning very poor, steak over cooked brought back on same plate with chips now awful my partner had finished what a bad state of affairs from a place that chArges plenty for poor service and food

We visited here on Friday night and were warmly welcomed by all the staff. Before the meal we stopped at the bar and ordered 2 cocktails, one of which wasn't on the menu however the bar tender offered to make it. When we went through the service was great and the food was well presented and tasty. We had the lamb shank and the venison both between £17-£19 and we ordered a couple of sides £4 each. I would recommend both dishes. If you wanted to try something else there was a good choice and they also have a fixed price menu 2 courses for £19 or 3 for £22.

Stayed here with my boyfriend just for one night. The room was quite small but very very cosy, comfortable, modern, clean and lovely! For sure will be stay here in our future trips. Thank you very much, guys!

Have used HdV for years either to stay or eat or both. This was definitely the most disappointing. Ate in the bistro...new menu that week...nobody seemed to know much about the dishes including the manager. Staff seemed really inexperienced and knew nothing about wine despite the fact that HdV specialises in wines! The actual new dish we tried...the Iberico haggis dish was very disappointing...tiny piece of haggis with a nice but not special lump of pig in a jus...not impressed for £9! The Bourguignon was way to rich for me tho that was my choice so my mistake. The Bouilllabaise was equally disappointing tho it waa described as the HdV take on a classic...different fish basically on a tomato puree base....not great and poor vfm. Come on HdV you can do better!

From the moment we were greeted on arrival, to when we left, the service was friendly and courteous. The food was delicious and the ambience was great. Would thoroughly recommend.

We have visited the bistro for Sunday Brunch in the past which has always been great. However, our most recent visit for dinner was awful. Small, tasteless portions with some of the ingredients missing. The service was also poor - even had to ask for the complimentary prosecco. Not a great experience!

Visited this Bistro for our anniversary! Sadly the ambience was not borne out by the food or service. Unfortunately these type of establishments no longer have chefs. They simply have kitchen staff who warm the food because it is sent to them readily prepared and portioned by their suppliers. Thus they are unable to meet individual requirements or preferences! The starter my wife had was a duck egg on a wooden platter - the egg was shell-less and sat in a whole in the board which meant, once broken, the whole egg fell through the hole and all over the table! The waiter simply didn't know what to do! My shrimp starters still had their rear tract in each of them! I chose Ribeye stake on the basis that this can sometimes be fatty but is usually very tasty. Unfortunately there was so much fat it was 50% inedible! My wife's Sea bass was no better than that which can be got in Strada etc. The manager was reluctant to speak with us but did offer 'free' desserts! Sadly the event had been ruined by this time and nothing could compensate. The overall cost led one to believe this might be 'fine-dining' - it most certainly IS NOT! Would never go again. I would not even begin to compare this establishment against those such as the fine and superior 'Meltons'.

I would not recommend Hotel du Vin in York to anyone! Absolutely disatrous anniversary event! These venues no longer have chefs - simply kitchen staff - as the food is delivered ready prepared by their suppliers! This means of course that no invdividual tastes can be catered for! My prawns still had their rear tract in them and my wife's duck egg had no support and thus it vanished through the hole in the wooden plate all over the table! The mains were no better (but much more expensive) than Cote, Cafe Rouge etc., The manager didn't want confrontation so offered us free desserts ! Sadly the event was already ruined! Fine dining it is not!

We were staying close by and the Bistro looked like an attractive proposition but sadly it didn't come up to expectations. We were invited to sit inside the Bistro but the air-conditioning was way too cold so we opted to sit in the courtyard at the rear. A great opportunity has been missed there to make this a very attractive area but it lacked any atmosphere and felt like an afterthought. We moved to sit outside at the front of the building which was much more pleasant. The food was ok but not stunning and it took several attempts to get the order correct. The couple sitting at the table close by were experiencing similar difficulties. It brought to mind a classic comedy show about an hotel in the West Country that used to be on TV that was run by Basil!!

Went to the restaurant for our wedding anniversary as we stayed in York. Welcomed and asked where we wanted to sit (although busy). Waitress took time to chat and discuss wine and food, especially specials and her recommendations. Food and wine selection was excellent and service exceptional. Would recommend and certainly will head back there next time we are n York.

Very welcoming staff and great table with lovely atmosphere. The wine was great. Unfortunately, the food was below par and we had to send 2 starters back. Cheese board was very good. Would return for drinks and coffee but not food.

Booked for 3 nights on business. First impressions were good. Staff and bedroom lovely. Dinner surprisingly bad. Rotting salad leaves. Rest of salad looked bland, past its sell by date and had no taste. How could they serve cold fatty pancetta? Surely it's supposed to be served warm. Breakfast was as bad. Fruit salad been sitting around for days. Overpriced. I cancelled breakfast for day 2 and 3. Go to premier inn just down the road!

I have dined here for Sunday lunch many times in the past and it has been amazing. I had not visited for a while and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the standards have really slipped. The buffet choice had very limited choice and was somewhat pitiful. We had to ask the staff to replenish it. The main couse was just OK, although my fish portion was tiny. The roast vegetables were black, dry and hard and couldn't be picked up with a fork. This was not what one would expect from the HDV. Sorry but I won't be in a hurry to return.

After several lovely meals here I was bitterly disappointed after our recent visit. We were treating my brother in law who was celebrating his 60th birthday. From the start the service wasn't great. The wine waiter lacked any sense of humour even though we ordered 2 bottles of wine totalling over £80. We were not offered any bread at the table. My starter which was £8 consisted of 3 small bits of beetroot, a leaf the size of a clover leaf with two bits of stale bread. I ordered the rack of lamb for £29 for three lamb cutlets to arrive. When challenged about the rack of lamb they said it wasn't " A rack of lamb but rack of lamb" what's the difference. In all fairness they did bring me 3 more lamb cutlets but really they need to explain this better on the menu. They over charged us a starter and the added a £28 service charged which we refused to pay. So disappointed to have spent nearly £300 on meal for four people and get this lack of service. Will not be visiting this resturant again!!!!

Enjoyed a birthday meal here a week ago. Yet another lovely meal. Service is always good, waiters attentive (but not overly so) and friendly into the bargain!Good menu. Food served promptly.Only drawback is the wine. Although of good quality, it is very expensive, and an aperitif at the bar prior to your meal might possibly require a bank loan. Still, I suppose you get what you pay for as the surroundings are very pleasant and bar service good.

Came here with my mum when she helped me move house. We spent over 7 hours talking, dining and drinking. Staff were absolutely brilliant, friendly and efficient, but not helicopter waiters. Soup was a little too salty, as was the halloumi and aubergine stew... but the food was of fantastic value and the market table was fresh and delicious! The portion sizes were HUGE and a real treat. Drinks were perfect, with a large selection of delicate teas. Gin and tonics were absolutely perfect. The visit was simply amazing, with great food. Yes, it's a little pricier than a Sunday roast up your local pub, but well worth the few extra pounds for great food and excellent service and atmosphere. My mum and I have never felt so comfortable and we had a very long catch up after a few months apart. Our visit was definitely the definition of a lazy Sunday (despite moving madness) and well worth it.

A group of us went for afternoon tea to celebrate a friend starting new job. It started ok there was a variety of savoury treats though what was supposed to be an egg filled brioche sub was a curled up finger sandwich, and a very chewy mini bagel but apart from that all good. It took us a little while to sort out who had who's tea, as what they said it was definitely wasn't. And then the mini cakes came out, which we thought was a little odd as usually the warmed scones with a mixture of jams, butter and clotted cream should be out next.When the scones arrived not only were they cold, but tiny, hard as bricks and still raw in the middle, one type of jam and no butter. My friend complained that they were inedible and were told they would replace them. What returned were three extra scones still of the same quality (there were 9 of us). As an apology they did offer us a round of drinks but as we had just drank a vat of tea, only a few obliged.After this point it was very difficult to get the attention of the several managers and waiters so we could pay and leave.

Not living in the uk anymore were were recommended this restaurant to meet up with friends. We opted for the 'special' menu, to try and keep the cost down. It was dreadful. If we been on our own I would have sent my whole meal back. The menu was very limited, presentation disgraceful, quantity, minimal. Certainly not an experience I would like to repeat.. Not only that, the cost of wine was exorbitant.

I have previously given an excellent review of the Sunday brunch experience at hotel du vin York, but I cannot do so for this visit. On a positive the farmers table was excellent and well stocked with very fresh food. The restaurant is also very beautiful with regards to decor. Unfortunately the main course I had (and others in our group) which was the beef was dreadful, fatty and tough. The food was also served cold. The service was poor with the waiter and waitress showing little interest in our overall dinning experience, I would go as far as saying that it felt like we were an inconvenience. We were significantly undercharged when presented with the bill and when we pointed this out there was no appreciation, thanks or apology. Sadly we will not revisit and will not recommend to others. This is additionally disappointing as we had a great experience on out first visit.

We have been coming to this restaurant for several years but this Sunday will be the last ever visit. To say the restaurant has gone downhill over the past year or so is an understatement.Firstly the waiting staff, all 5 or 6 of them wandering around but careful not to once come to ask if the food was ok or would we like a top up of drinks. We had to ask for the wine list which would normally be given with the food menu, then ask again for someone to bring the wine, ask for bread with the soup,which by the way was very tasty, ask for condiments with the meal. Each time was met with blank stares from the waiting staff? There must have only been 10 other diners in at peak time on a Sunday so that tells you something is wrong.We were asked how we wanted the roast beef to which we responded pink but it was brought well done. To top it all off the final cheese board, supposed to be accompanied by chutney wasn't. I asked for some and was given a dish of soaked raisins! Thought they must be having a laugh so once again called the waitress who returned it to the kitchen and came back 5 minutes later to tell me they have tomato chutney if I want it. To be honest I couldnt be bothered waiting any longer and did without.If we were looking for this level of service we could have gone to a regular cafe and paid a tenner and not be disappointed.

Location superb, restaurant lovely, pleasant service, food fine. Fixed price menu good value but choices limited.
