Nando's - York Vangarde in York

Alice’s customer service was perfect, we order our food and Alice came over with our food 15mins later and the food was really nice. Half way through she came to check if we needed anything and then gave us ample time to sit and chat before politely asking if we wanted our plates taking away. Really nice, polite, professional and on the ball. So thank you Alice!

Our first visit to Nando’s in years and it was a pleasant surprise. That staff were friendly and friendly and efficient. We were seated quickly and everything explained. Staff even recommended specific food options which were great. We liked the option to order online with the choice to go up if preferred and once ordered, the food arrived quickly as it was prepared. All of the grilled chicken was well cooked and tasted great, the portions of chicken felt a little small but with the two sides (broccoli and mash) there was enough food. If there was one slight negative was that the macaroni cheese and chips sides were on the cool side but still tasted great. Someone (possibly a manager) also checked in that everything was okay and as with all the staff he was very friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely be going back soon and if all Nando’s are like this they’re onto a winner.

We came for lunch today with our 2 year old and unfortunately our little boy decided to have a bit of a toddler meltdown. We decided to cut our visit short and get take away boxes due to not wanting to ruin the other people's eating experiences. However James (I think a manager) was amazing! He reassured us that we didn't have to go, offered colouring books etc.. and was very understanding of toddler behaviour. We still chose to leave and he made us a bag with everything we would need to finish our meals later. We've never experienced anyone so kind and understanding in the restaurant industry and really want to show our appreciation. So thank you James, you really are one in a million and we hope to come back again soon.

It’s Nando’s, what’s more to say?!

It is very difficult to make instore order by mobile device as the mobile signal is too weak. I have to go to the entrance area to capture the mobile signal. But, the food is good.

We love Nando's. Whenever we are out and about, we look for one. This was a new one to visit, and it didn't disappoint. Thank you

First time at Nandos. Staff were friendly, informative, smart looking and helpful. Online ordering was straight forward and easy to use. Food was hot (as in temperature not spicy as I went for medium spice) and tasty. Tried a couple of sauces too which I found very yummy. Garlic one was just enough of fire for me but hubby said it would be too much for him as he doesn't do spicy...🤣

Been to this Nando’s twice now. Both times been greater by the same gentleman, (Tyler) he made our experience so pleasant. So kind, really lovely to speak to, he went through the menu with us so patiently explaining everything thoroughly to us. He is a great asset to the workplace. We really enjoyed our experience.

I went to this Nandos for my son’s birthday, when we arrived we were greeted by the manager and shown to our table. We sat on table 7 and it was dirty so we asked the manager if she could clean it, to which she looked at the table and walked off. It took 35 minutes for our starters to arrive on a Wednesday, then when I mentioned it to the manager she said ‘I’ll get it for you’. She then didn’t return for another 10 minutes, this manager is absolutely incompetent. I will not be returning to this restaurant due to the poor management thanks to Jolita.

Love this Nando’s as it’s out of town so tends not to be as busy as city centre ones. Nice open environment. Order by app and food arrives quickly. Friendly and helpful staff. Standard Nando’s menu which suits me as is good value with good sized portions.

Its like another ordinary nandos and if you like the food at nandos, then there won't be any issues. Only reason I have 4 stars was because there were some items that weren't available, bottled water was out of stock, ketchup was out of stock and some other sauces were not available or unable to locate. Other than that no real issues

Today we were served by a young gentleman called Henry, he was a great pleasure and made us feel very welcome. Will definitely return.

Went there for 50th birthday, me and wife, sat down, only to be told there's a 40min wait on chicken ! ¼ - ½ , So we ordered 2 starters, to fill in time, I wanted I warp my wife wanted ½ chicken Her's came out 1st then, she started eating didn't bring mine for another 10 min!!! 😡 (no apology either), Then when it turn up it had no spice yogurt in it, which made it dry " so I asked there's none in it"they said we have ran out!!! They didn't even tell me when ordering it, !!! Mangers not wasn't bothered, it like know one cares, ! Had a rubbish time,

First and last time. Size of the chicken is child hand size. Picked a knife from cup, 8 out of 9 dirty. Every cutlery in the cup cross contaminate.. disgusting. if you need good kp i will give you one.

Not been for a while, but went as nothing else north of York serving food on Sunday night. Queued on arrival but not a long wait (except big groups), staff pleasant - we were at table 1, not disturbed by cleaning station and easy to attract attention! Fair few things missing off menu - limited sides and no Sagres for example. App shows 1/4 chicken as leg and things - but one of us got breast which we hate, no choice is offered? Could have had crispier skin but still tasty. Also bit rushed - meals came 3 mins after nuts and drinks ordered as a starter. At the end, asked if we could change a note and waiter weirdly said they weren’t allowed to accept tips - never heard of this, used to be jar by the till?

So, my family and I went out for lunch today. It was just okay, nothing to write home about. What concerned me was the way this manager (though it's hard to call her that given her lack of management skills) got moody because we were missing sides. Her attitude towards the two support workers was awful; it was utterly appalling. She even had the gall to complain about them, mentioning something about an NHS card, which they usually have but didn't have on them, and something about wanting to see a paycheck, despite it being obvious they were at work since they came in to support people. What business is it of hers to see their paychecks anyway? I found her rude, unapproachable, and clearly in need of further training based on how she treated those people. My gripe is with staff sitting around on their phones. If they're on a break, that's fair enough, but they should make it obvious by putting on a jacket or something to indicate they're not working or go to the staff room. I felt this looked very unprofessional, and judging by other reviews, it seems to be a recurring issue. On the bright side, my chicken wrap was very nice.

£100 for 4 meals and soft drinks but still have to pay for perinaise. Nando's is becoming more and more of a rip off.

Early Sunday evening was busy with 15 minute wait for a table. Shame it was next to the cleaning station (avoid table 1 if you can). Turnover was brisk, so much so that the glasses and silverware were still hot out of the dish washer. Food was as you'd expect from Nando's and the staff were friendly and cheerful. Another successful visit to Nando's overall.

I ordered the Beanie pita, rice and chips. I think they counted the rice, as for the chips they were definitely hand counted. My Beanie salad disappeared at the bottom of my pita bread. My wife ordered the chicken salad. Well that’s what we thought it was. The chicken shrunk on the grill, in fact it should have been cooked chicken medium spice. They cooked the chicken and then poured the sauce over it on a plate. Which doesn’t go with salad. The chicken should have been infused in the sauce. So we asked politely for another one. Waste of time, it came back looking the same but sliced up. The staff were very friendly. Too many short cuts looking to make profits. They need to pop in to their Birstall or the White Rose branch to see how to satisfy their customers.

Had to ask the waiter three times to clean out table as kept missing bits of food left by previous occupants. My wife ordered a quarter chick portion and when it came it’s was a tiny chicken leg. My wings were bigger. The waiter came over to ask if everything was alright with our food and I said not really. The chicken portion was tiny and not a quarter of a chicken. He agreed but said there wasn’t anything he could do about it. And left it at that. What’s the point of asking the staff to ask if customers are happy with there food if you are not going to do anything about it if it’s not right? Very poor. Won’t be going again.

I visit this nandos quite often and the food is always good, don’t normally leave reviews but just wanted to give a special mention to the waiter Matthew who is always so attentive, polite and friendly:)

Poor lass on her first day on the till evidently struggling, meanwhile the manager on duty walking around doing nothing. The queue was huge, there was loads of food on the pass waiting to go out and he's strolling around like it's beneath him. The whole place felt chaotic and without rhythm.

My daughter and me visited Nandos Vangarde tonight. After a long day at work it was lovely to sit in a great restaurant with a great atmosphere. All the staff had smiles on their faces and a special mention to Tyler our host who made sure we had everything we needed with a beaming smile on his face. It was a pleasure to eat at this Nandos we were welcomed and felt incredibly relaxed, not rushed at all like some restaurants make you feel. We left happy after lovely freshly cooked hot food. Thank you all, we needed that. And especially Tyler our host with a big smile.

when we arrived to this place we were told that there was a 30 MINUTE WAIT in selected items of the menu which had been taken off online, so we agreed that it was fine and we would wait the 30 MINUTES tops. we were then seated and placed our order online selecting the available items so we could avoid long wait. our starter and drinks had came which were fine. it then proceeded to a 50 MINUTES WAIT we had even got up and asked where our food was as there were 3 tables that had already got there food and they had arrived 15 minutes after we had ordered. they had all got there food even tho we had been sat and ordered before them. after confronting the manager about this she tried talking a load of sh*t to my boyfriend about why it was such a wait. so i decided to get involved which then began us to start rowing and said i don’t need to talk to her rudely. i told her that it was not her in the position or that it was her money or her meal she was having. i told her that the items we had selected were not the ones that had been removed off the menu so how could it possibly be such a long wait?!

Good flavours but average portion sizes, seat yourself and order yourself, i prefer table service, my preference

I’ve visited this Nando’s quite a lot and often there’s a young man named Tyler who serves us in some capacity and he’s so helpful and friendly. The food is always fab… especially the Rainbow Salad. Another wonderful visit with my daughter today. Thank you.

Veggie options were pretty much off the menu, and when the food eventually did arrive it was luke warm. The restaurant was also incredibly cold every time someone opened the door. Friendly staff but incredibly slow service.

usually have a great experience in any nandos. but this one left me and my partner waiting almost an hour for our food which then arrived cold. promptly "replaced" but just felt heated up.

I headed down to @nandosuk before watching Dune 2 (which was insane btw) and think I’ve found the new Nando’s hack (unfortunately, I didn’t capture the final stage). However, I will give you my order below, so you can give it a whirl yourself! 4 piri piri thighs in smoky churasco spice Chips in piri piri spice Garlic bread Halloumi fries Perinaise Now slap the perinaise on the bottom bun and sweet chilli on the top and just mash the 2 thighs and halloumi inside and you’re onto winner! 🏆

Food was terrible, I would even say uncooked. I ran home to the toilet that evening having done a number two in my trousers.

Came in on a Saturday night and got seated pretty quickly, good service, and food came quickly. Only downside is that there's a breeze nearer the windows, so we are always cold whenever we are sat there.

Minimal staff interaction due to an app to order. Chicken good I am told but vegetarian an insult. Hardly any food on plate minus the wrap, hard overcooked meat sub I could see meal ready piled up on the pass waiting to be served. Mine was cold, must have been ready ages as I would go so far as to say just about chilled. Extra £1 for 2 spoons on mac cheese, managed to chew through replacement for cold brocoli that was under cooked. Paid £15 for the food, 1st and last time. My tip went to my daughter when got us cutlery and polished it with a napkin for us. But the chicken is good I am told.

Disappointed to come for lunch to be out of stock of beer, Coke, Diet Coke, Ice, no ice cream with the dessert that comes with ice cream & still to be charged the same price. Staff as always were great & the food ordered as always good quality. You really shouldn’t run out of basics

10/2. Waiting 40 minutes for 1 pitta and 1 burger. The excuse from the manager about a problem with the gas “ seriously? A business like Nando’s???? Bad service, bad management from the kitchen and not even an apology!!! Fuming 😡

It's our go to Nandos. We have always liked it. Good food and friendly staff which makes it worth the journey. Oh and there's a big MandS next door which keeps the other half happy.

Haven't been in a Nandos in 10 years and this week I ended up trying 2, 1 in Birstall and this one at Vanguard York. Night & day different experience with really poor customer service and sub par food. Staff just didn't seem to care and could hardly bother to engage. While we were there we saw someone choke on some food & vomit and a child fall and end up with a bleeding head - neither table saw any attempt from the staff to help even after it was highlighted by other customers. Despite not having much to do and not really helping anyone ( you get your own drinks & cutlery so not like they are tied up much ) we saw our food sit on the hot plate area for almost 5 minutes before someone brought it to the table. Had to ask for missing starter and glasses for the drinks we ordered after some of the starters arrived and mains took 30min to arrive. Having had a great lunch and good service experience at what was at the time a busier Nandos in Birstall we won't be coming here again!

came to nandos last night they only had about 3 items available on the menu everything else was out of stock. ordered half a chicken with some sides. the chicken was so dry i couldnt finish it i dont know wether it had been cooked and then left out? was up ill all night with food poisioning symptoms. really bad. i have been so ill with stomach cramps and other rather nasty symptoms that i wont mention here. just a heads up if the chicken dosent look right dont eat it. they didnt seem to care at all last night food was just left there on the counter bit while the staff chatted instead of seving the food just awful

Always enjoy going to Nando’s, however the service here is often slow. Even when I order ahead of time to collect, the promise time is never met.. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Food has always been great.

Nando's at Vangarde is very relaxed, the selection of food is spicy (if you like that) but it has selection which are not spicy. Staff are very help full and make your stay very welcome. Pricing is very reasonable but you must remember it mainly chicking dishes (healthy eating) if you like this sort of food it's the ideal place for you.

Nandos monks Cross york is excellent.

Manager Chris is unbelievably arrogant , rude , unprofessional and clearly out of his depth within his management roll. If a customer politely informs you that two starters never arrived and a main meal is inedible perhaps the best way to approach the situation is not by leaving us waiting 25 minutes for a solution and then opening the conversation with an extremely rude “right what do you want me to do about it”. Is it not obvious what the reasonable solution is to 1 not receiving 2 items we paid for and 2 receiving an inedible meal? An attitude isn’t it. Seems like you need acouple of courses in customer service then perhaps work your way up to management in the distant future.

Great chicken, really nice boneless chicken thighs, medium hot sauce is nice, for someone that is not a fan of spicy food it is really hot.

We had never been to a Nandos, and probably never will again! Yes it was half term and was busy, however the food was nondescript, flavourless and boring!! The staff were overwhelmed but they should have been managed better and the Manager should have reigned in the kids [whose parents where queueing for a table] that were racing around the restaurant, climbing on chairs and on the dividers between tables! It was a glorified McDonalds!

It's nandos. Like Ronseal it does exactly what it says on the tin. Always nice atmosphere and great polite and helpful staff. The place is always kept nice and clean as well.

Went here for dinner after bowling as the busses to town had stopped. The restaurant was advertised as closing at 10pm and we walked in at 8:45pm and were treated as if we had walked in 5 minutes before close. The servers treated us horribly and my date was made uncomfortable after being glared at by our waitress while trying to eat. The food was good standard as expected but would rather walk in the cold to the other Nandos restaurant in town rather than risk running into that waitress again.

Went up to Order our food and explained I had Coeliac Disease and my sons girlfriend had a Nut Allergy the girl immediately said she would get a manager to take our order with us having allergies in the party. Manager arrived over and took our order with great care. Meal was excellent and all the staff were so friendly. Will definitely visit again! Thank you so much!

My girlfriend is coeliac and made the waitress aware at outset, the waitress said to inform them at the counter when we placed an order. My girlfriend asked if it was OK to have the rice and the server said "I think so", she then asked if that's a yes or a no and the response was "it should be ok". She then asked if it was ok to order the holumi to which she got a sarcastic reply of "its dairy" which we're fully aware of but its all about the preparation and cross contamination issues. This is not good enough, eating food which is not prepared in the correct manner can make people quite ill if they are coeliac. Very poor, couldn't be bothered attitude shone through here! Having said that the other staff were lovely, efficient and the tables were all very clean, food was good and prices reasonable. Such a shame one person ruins the experience.

Great Portuguese inspired restaurant, nice atmosphere and super friendly staff who were very efficient, their lemon and herb chicken is really tasty ..what's not to like.. excellent..!! 😋👍

Lunchtime visit. 2 of 3 of us are neurodiverse. So very sensitive to bad/unusual versions of familiar foods. No need to worry, this was awesome! Chikin was lovely, fries hot and fresh. Sunset burger messy and sublime. Fast service after app order. Best nandos ever 🔥

If you like chicken with flavour, it's great. If you don't, it's not for you 😝 Met my sister for a bite and a natter. Good service, good food. Can't get a cuppa tea though 😯 Oh, and it's a faff if you've got dietary issues - whilst the staff will willingly help you, the menus tell you little and it's not clear. 2 service points deduction for that!

We have been going to nandos for years and have always loved it but this time was made more special by the new manager (we found out) called Michelle. She was just brilliant and was working as hard as all the other staff, wiping tables and delivering food to tables as well as being behind the counter taking orders! She was very friendly and welcoming. Thank you Michelle for making our date night so special. We'll be back of course!!!

Went in late to try and get a meal after a late finish at work and expected to be turned away but was pleasantly surprised that the host Grace rallied around and found out what was still available from the chef and helped with the menu etc. Made my evening much more pleasant... No cooking late at night!

Beautiful, genuine caring staff ❤️ Fresh and tender chicken 🐔 😋 😍 Me and my 9 year old love coming here now it's our best Nandos 👌 Everything is perfect. Glasses, cutlery and tables are clean. No sticky tables here 😌 The only tiny little flaw for me personally is abit more spice and sauce needed for the extra spicy chicken 🐔 😋 Thank you to each and every lovely member of staff there. Not often you go somewhere and find all the staff with exceptional customer service and always greeted with a genuine smile. 💙💚❤️

I’ve been to this Nandos a few times …. First few visits last year were ok but not a great one earlier this year , tried again today …. The place was empty , the service was average, looked like the manager was cooking ? The corn was ‘old’ , just don’t re serve cobs , they taste tough ! The pittas were cold ? Odd I’d say … just not as fab as in the past …

Queuing time is ridiculous. This is because the wait for food is also ridiculously long. The result is that the tables are occupied for longer than they should be. All this is a result that Nandos are trying to do too much - restaurant service, take away and deliver pick ups. After a long wait the food was as good as usual. Toilets were mingling, the toilet roll dispenser in the ladies and the toilet seat was broken in 2 halves. It feels so bad that there should be a sink outside the toilet to wash your hands again after you've touched the door handle.

Been to Nandos all my life always liked the food and their consistency but this particular one the food arrived luke warm than hot like it was cooked 30min ago. We were warned the food will take 30min to arrive because of how busy they were but not warned about it arriving cold.

This visit was on a quiet day so I had the pick of seats. Good service and tasty food. I was well looked after by the staff too

One of the best nandos I have eaten in, friendly helpful staff that always make you aware of the waiting time for a table and food as you enter. Food is fantastic in terms of quality and quantity.

Having never been anywhere near a Nando’s restaurant before this was an unexpected surprise. My wife and I were warmly greeted by a young man by the name of Tyler. I can only say this young man was pleasant, extremely helpful and a real credit to the company. Upon discovering we were new to the Nando experience, he took time to explain the menu, our options and how to order. He noticed that our drinks hadn’t been delivered and took it upon himself to chase them up. He offered us a free starter on the house as new customers. I can’t speak highly enough of the excellent customer service we received from this delightful young man. This may have been our first ever visit, it certainly won’t be our last.
