My husband & I always stay in The Red Lion Hotel in Fareham when we visit local family. We always find it easy to book a room for our stay either direct through the hotel reception or via Booking.com. We have previously either stayed in a business double room in The Stables as that has a shower or the room directly behind reception with a low level bath & over shower. These rooms have been suitable for my health needs. We have always been welcomed with a smile from the member of staff on reception. This visit was for our BIL'S funeral. We booked a room & breakfast deal direct through the hotel which was an accessible room with walk in shower which we have never stayed in. It was at the time of booking a cheaper option rather than the business double room in The Stables. Sadly we wasn't treated at reception with our usual happy smiling face which we found surprising, especially as we have always received a very warm welcome on all of our other previous visits. Our room was very spacious, which was helpful as I use a walking stick. The room decor was as always up to date, clean, tidy & inviting. We had the usual tea, coffee & kettle etc. We found it very hard to fit the large kettle under the bathroom tap to fill it upto make a hot drink. Maybe consider giving guests a slightly smaller kettle to make this simple task more easier? We found we didn't have enough milk sachets to cover our coffee's etc, so I had to ask reception for more, which they happily supplied. We found that the bathroom sink tap never ran cold. It was either luke warm or warm, even though there was a 'beware of hot water' sticker above the sink. We enjoyed our room except for two things. The bedroom door is far to heavy to open for a disabled person like myself, let alone a person in a wheelchair. The door opens outwards & a wheelchair user will seriously struggle to open the door, although it is an accessible room! The wet room floor was filthy black with usage. It needs a really good scrub, not just a mopping. I have always owned a wet room & they have to be cleaned deeply after every use or they do stain black. As we were visiting to attend our BIL'S funeral, we didn't have the energy to ask to move room after unpacking but we won't book into that room, 66, in future visits to The Red Lion Hotel, Fareham. We will pay more & stay in the business room in The Stables. Over all, our stay was nice but it could have been better. On a very positive note though, our daily breakfasts over our 2 day stay & evening meal were amazing & extremely good value, large portions & plenty of choice etc. Compliments to the chef, kitchen staff & restaurant staff. Thank you all & see you soon. Mr & Mrs Robinson 17/11/2024 to 19/11/2024.

This is on the Warsash side of the river. A great location though some might think a little difficult to visit by car. Following a small lane you park in the boatyard, if you give them your vehicle details, your parking is free. We visited early in the evening and it was very quiet, I can imagine it’s more busy during the summer months. There is plenty of outside seating that looks really nice with a river view. We only had a drink but it is light, airy & modern.

Where do I start, firstly the staff were excellent and catered to everything, the food however was a complete disappointment, we had the Christmas menu, the starters were OK although the presentation of the calamari 3 pieces all stacked on a tiny dish?? The mains, we all ordered different, first the fish is coley, batter soggy and bland, not what I expected, the burgers was a ball of mince which fell apart and bland no subsidence to it, the vegetable lasagna, bought in very tasteless and dry, such a shame

Very disappointed, had booked a meal out with our son and his girlfriend which we were all looking forward to. On arrival we waited about 5 minutes before anyone came to book us in. The couple in front of us were given a table for 6 by the door. our table wasn't ready but wouldn't be long. The couple then got up to leave as they had been told the waiting time for food is an hour, on hearing this we also decided to leave. The staff did apologise saying that there were only 2 waiting staff and 2 kitchen staff on and they had a big party in. Surely you would know what bookings you have and get the staffing situation sorted. When we last came here we were in a fairly large party and the food wasn't of a good standard. We thought we would give it another go but sadly I'm not sure we would come back.

Had a weekend here as a gift stayed two nights from 6th December 24 . From the minute we arrived everything was lovely the way we were treated at reception to breakfast and even a meal in the restaurant on Saturday night all staff were so friendly polite and nothing was too much trouble for them . We stayed in the stable rooms (no 71) and although not fantastic and a bit basic everything you needed was there and the room was immaculately clean and really nice bathroom and such a comfortable bed it just needed a few little extras to make it perfect!! I’ve stayed in some pretty amazing hotels in my time but for the price this couldn’t be beaten!!! A 9 out of 10 for the room but a 10/10 for the staff they are a credit to you !!!

17th Nov 12:47. Receipt ID 1731847673646 I had generally given up on visits to Salt Cafe, due to being either denied indoor seating for wife and self or being offered the most unappealing spot when other better positions are empty with no reserved signage. It's as if they want to leave all the best slots for later at the expense of the actual customers who are keeping them in business. The veranda tables were mostly empty with reserved signs but never used during our 30 minutes on site. We both feel the experience was not welcoming and the service was slow and unengaging, I will not give them a 5th opportunity.

My Wife booked an afternoon tea online for a 80th birthday but it was cancelled by text on morning a couple of hours prior to the booking, have taken prepaid payment including tip and as yet not committed to refunding any money. Landline number is not working. Owner has spoken to us and claims electric company has cut them off. Still no confirmation of refund.

Not great today. Feel something has changed. Placed order of hot food, baguette and cake. and still no drinks after half an hour. Hot food, well lukewarm food came out after half an hour, still no drinks or cake. As we were finishing our hot food waitor came and told us coffee machine broken so no coffee., told to go inside for refund.10 mins later my tea came out.then we had to ask for the cake as the person had been sat with nothing to eat. Very disappointed today as has been great in the past.

I went here for Sunday roast and was left a little disappointed. The staff were excellent throughout. The roast beef was good, I had the trio roast which was with beef, pork and chicken (the chicken and pork were over done), and considering you pay more for this, I expected a larger amount of meat, instead it was a normal amount of meat but divided up into three different types of meat. Then the veg arrived and we were given the same portion as they gave to single and couple customers (I know this because I was looking around at other tables) were given but we were sharing between 4 people! Sharing a veg portion for one person between 4 meant we didn’t get much each. This I found very disappointing.

Went here today for afternoon tea with a friend. Absolutely delicious food (four types of sandwiches, lemon and blueberry cake, tiffin, brownie, bread pudding and scone with cream and jam). Service was attentive but left us to chat in peace as well. We were able to sit in the booth, which was great for a good natter. We'll definitely be back!

The food was OK the coffee was not. Had a nice simple smoothie. The staff don't look happy to be there and just look fed up. Definitely not worth over £17!
