The food was OK the coffee was not. Had a nice simple smoothie. The staff don't look happy to be there and just look fed up. Definitely not worth over £17!

The food was ok but the service was terrible. The customer service assistant did not attempt any rapport and was surly and miserable. I won't be returning.

Nice to have your drinks and food brought to you after ordering and people were friendly. Food was lovely and fresh and did not have to wait long.

Lovely clean cafe, excellent and friendly service. Food was delicious and well priced for portion size. No loud music so that you can actually talk to each other. A well hidden gem just off the main shopping drag.

Coffee tasted burnt and bitter 0/10. Cafe was filthy and I would question the hygiene!! Owner should also keep rascist opinions to himself. Disgusting

Foul burnt coffee, tasted like the machine hadn’t been cleaned out after previous customers’ drinks; I would ordinarily have ordered another to give benefit of the doubt but the atmosphere the owner was creating made me just want to get out. Won’t be returning.

We went prior to the festival I ordered the breakfast burrito and a mango and passionfruit milkshake. The burrito was delicious and hot. I said to the man serving indeed a drink to quench my thirst and he suggested the mango and passionfruit milkshake. I will be going back just for the milkshake. Delicious food , lovely and clean even the toilet was spotless. The staff were very helpful

No compassion! We went to O'briens to get some lunch when we saw a panting dog left outside in the sun tied to a lamp post. We went in to ask for some tap water and were refused! We were told very abruptly that the dog is always left out there. We didn't ask why we just wanted some tap water for the dog who was clearly panting and paws burning up in the sun. No kindness whatsoever and we were looked at as if we were fools for being concerned for the little guy. Didn't bother staying in to eat as clearly we weren't welcomed and was interrogated as to why we just wanted some water. We waited couple minutes yes. But may it be for a human or a dog we just asked for some water. The fact that we couldn't get that, what sort of place does that make you. On such a hot day. It took 3 of you to gather around us and tell us no. The manner in which the manager and employees did this was dismissive as was the comment to report to animal welfare. No concern at all.

We were visiting Portsmouth to celebrate my husband's birthday. After checking out of our appartment we drove to Southsea to see the sea! It started to rain and we got soaked!so the obvious thing to do was to walk into town and get something hot to eat and drink! I had the jacket potato with cheese and beans, with chai latte, hubby and daughter had toastie paninis. All delicious, lets hear it for the independant cafes and restaurants, and give them our support, they are superior to the big chains!

Lock down for the second time. But the take away coffee at O’Brien’s remains the way to cheer up your day.

This gem of a local cafe serves up tasty and reasonably priced food ranging from jacket potatoes to homemade wraps and salads. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, coffee were generously sized. Social distancing rules sensibly observed, would recommend to anyone, family friendly. Food served efficiently and staff were lovely!

Drinks here are OK but the service is awful. Staff do not welcome you or even smile whilst serving you. No thank you’s or anything, very rude. Will not be returning. I was also given dairy milk instead of soya.

I make no apology for writing a further review for this privately run cafe. In these present difficult times, O’Briens have been open for several weeks under strictly controlled conditions. They are providing take away hot drinks , toasted items and cakes and are a bright spot in an area where all the chain catering outlets are closed. We have called on several occasions, the coffee and hot chocolate are good, and we have witnessed a steady demand. Well done.

My friend and I came across this place after our usual haunt was closed. We ordered brunch/late breakfast and wasn't disappointed. We both had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast, delicious. Service was quick and the place was very clean. Will definitely be returning

Went here for breakfast. We walked in and were not really acknowledged. We sat down and no one came to our table and offered us a menu. It was only when we stood up ourselves to view the menu on the wall that the staff then proceeded to offer a menu for us to view. No complaints with the food, just didnt like the service, not friendly or welcoming so won't be returning.

We were delighted to find this coffee shop in Southsea as until a couple of years ago we regularly had coffee at O’Briens in Eastleigh. Loved this place, loved the relaxed atmosphere and artwork. Very good coffee and excellent pancakes.

Very pleasant staff but a decidedly average coffee shop & restaurant for the heart of Southsea. Quiet and arguably relaxing but lacks atmosphere and my vegetarian burrito could have done with something, a garnish maybe..?

My Wife booked an afternoon tea online for a 80th birthday but it was cancelled by text on morning a couple of hours prior to the booking, have taken prepaid payment including tip and as yet not committed to refunding any money. Landline number is not working. Owner has spoken to us and claims electric company has cut them off. Still no confirmation of refund.

I went here for Sunday roast and was left a little disappointed. The staff were excellent throughout. The roast beef was good, I had the trio roast which was with beef, pork and chicken (the chicken and pork were over done), and considering you pay more for this, I expected a larger amount of meat, instead it was a normal amount of meat but divided up into three different types of meat. Then the veg arrived and we were given the same portion as they gave to single and couple customers (I know this because I was looking around at other tables) were given but we were sharing between 4 people! Sharing a veg portion for one person between 4 meant we didn’t get much each. This I found very disappointing.

So asked for Black Forest hot chocolate but they gave it to me without cream , when I asked for cream to which she said "you asked for black forest hot chocolate ", I said if you look in the picture it comes with cream. So she gave me cream, which ran out, and then she was going to give me that, so I asked for more cream as it was a tiny amount , so they she found some eventually then that ran out, so it was no where near what the picture looked like . So Costa either makes sure you have the supplies in, and your staff have the right attitude for the public because she clearly did not 👎

Pubs (and restaurants) has had a tsunami of challenges facing them since the 2008 credit crunch. Any small and or independent pub (or restaurant) that has survived these financial tsunami’s deserve all the support they can get. Unfortunately many of the said surviving pubs which survived the financial crisis of 2008 and still managed to provide good or even fair quality food, stumbled after the challenges presented after the tsunamis of the past 8 years, which included the pandemic. With that in mind it is always great to still stumble upon pubs that are still able to provide good quality food, especially at mire reasonable prices.

This is on the Warsash side of the river. A great location though some might think a little difficult to visit by car. Following a small lane you park in the boatyard, if you give them your vehicle details, your parking is free. We visited early in the evening and it was very quiet, I can imagine it’s more busy during the summer months. There is plenty of outside seating that looks really nice with a river view. We only had a drink but it is light, airy & modern.
