First time in! I moved to Fareham Jan 23. Proper country pub - its got books which is always a sign of taste and what will suit. This will now be my local. My other locals are multi-screen 'blokerooms', or over-priced fakeries. I am happy to have found somewhere I can sit with the dog after a walk, have a read, or a bit of a chat, enjoy a couple of pints and then walk home. Will defo be doing a Sunday lunch in future. Thankyou.

When you want to escape the office or the house at a lunchtime or an evening the place to visit for a snack or something larger; The White Horse, Wallington. Today’s meal a delicious chicken, bacon and mayo jacket potato with salad prepared by Dan and washed down with an orange juice and lemonade. A lovely friendly environment. Kelly and Darren run a lovely establishment. If you haven’t yet visited, I’d recommend it.

I haven't eaten at the White Horse (yet). Went there for NYE. A fantastic soul band played and the atmosphere was brilliant. The staff are very friendly, as are the locals. I've been a few times and love the feel of the pub. It's always busy ( but not too packed) and very much a 'locals' pub so plenty of friendly customers. It's how a pub should be. I would definitely recommend a visit - a village feel and always welcoming.

Happy to see the pub revitalised and have had discussions with the new owners about the progress. However the transfer of the real ale from the covered barrels in the bar to the new cellar we warned would be a problem with the beer being too cold! Our visit today indeed proved our point, the beer was too cold. It should he about 14 degrees it was about ten! Also to impress customers a glowing reception would help. Unfortunately the young person serving us was suffering from a lack of personality, and spent the time between serving vaping! Pubs should not allow this practice as it is highly toxic, worse than cigarette smoke and cannot be appropriate for the attraction of families .

A group of six of us meet up occasionally for a meal. This time we chose The White Horse at Wallington. My wife and I were the first to arrive. I said to the man behind the bar that we had a reservation for six people to which he replied, "Sit wherever you like". As there was only one unoccupied table there which would take six people our choice was somewhat limited. The table was, unfortunately, lit by a compact fluorescent lamp which flickered throughout the whole evening. Fortunately none of us suffers from epilepsy. In due course the others arrived and we ordered drinks. I was doubly disappointed, firstly because there was no Appletiser and secondly my alternate choice, tonic water, only came in 125ml bottles which really are designed to go with a glass of gin. You need at least 200ml to go with a meal and I don't see why anyone should be forced to buy two bottles because the right size isn't stocked in the first place. Appletiser comes in a 275ml bottle. We were given menus. These seemed to offer less choice than we had seen on the internet but we were assured that they were the only menus available. We all found something to order. I avoided the steak as the only other time I had steak here I actually bent the fork trying to get it into the meat. However, that was at least 20 years ago so I would expect changes in that time. In all fairness the food was good. I settled for the steak pie and the meat in that was extremely tender and full of flavour. The pastry was nothing to write home about. I think everyone enjoyed their food and some could not manage to eat it all. Three of us had desserts. My lemon meringue pie was satisfactory but I did not eat all the pastry. The two others had pudding desserts (most desserts were puddings), not all of which were eaten. The non-dessert eaters asked for coffee, and this is where the title of this review comes in. One lady asked for black coffee with some hot milk on the side. The waitress came back with the statement that hot milk was not available. The lady's husband politely asked again. The waitress came back with a further message, the gist of which was that Hell was more likely to freeze over than we were to get some hot milk. What??? Is there another so called café/pub/restaurant in the country which can produce custard but not a little bit of hot milk for some coffee? We all felt this was a case, not of 'can't', but of 'damn well won't'. It's not as if they were busy. I didn't see anyone else actually eating while we were there. It's such a pity. The food was tasty and the service otherwise satisfactory. The overall cost was far less than we usually pay, but with an attitude such as the one we encountered we won't be going back.

We were sat outside The White Horse, and the umbrella took flight as it was quite breezy, thus smacking me in the face and breaking my glasses. It did leave a mark on my face also. Other customers saw what happened And concerned went straight to the manager. He came out, took the umbrella off my husband (who had picked it up from the road) and then placed it back and walked away!! He didn't ask if I was ok and when u told him my glasses were broken - no reaction. Other regulars had told me that apparently these umbrellas had done this before. I dread to think what would have happened if this had hit a child. He needs to get them secured for certain. Talk about caring for customers and customer service! Won't be going back there for sure!

So asked for Black Forest hot chocolate but they gave it to me without cream , when I asked for cream to which she said "you asked for black forest hot chocolate ", I said if you look in the picture it comes with cream. So she gave me cream, which ran out, and then she was going to give me that, so I asked for more cream as it was a tiny amount , so they she found some eventually then that ran out, so it was no where near what the picture looked like . So Costa either makes sure you have the supplies in, and your staff have the right attitude for the public because she clearly did not 👎

I went here for Sunday roast and was left a little disappointed. The staff were excellent throughout. The roast beef was good, I had the trio roast which was with beef, pork and chicken (the chicken and pork were over done), and considering you pay more for this, I expected a larger amount of meat, instead it was a normal amount of meat but divided up into three different types of meat. Then the veg arrived and we were given the same portion as they gave to single and couple customers (I know this because I was looking around at other tables) were given but we were sharing between 4 people! Sharing a veg portion for one person between 4 meant we didn’t get much each. This I found very disappointing.

The food was OK the coffee was not. Had a nice simple smoothie. The staff don't look happy to be there and just look fed up. Definitely not worth over £17!
