Where do I start, firstly the staff were excellent and catered to everything, the food however was a complete disappointment, we had the Christmas menu, the starters were OK although the presentation of the calamari 3 pieces all stacked on a tiny dish?? The mains, we all ordered different, first the fish is coley, batter soggy and bland, not what I expected, the burgers was a ball of mince which fell apart and bland no subsidence to it, the vegetable lasagna, bought in very tasteless and dry, such a shame

Excellent restaurant. They have quite a short menu but don’t be put off by that: the quality of the food is way way above that of your average gastropub. Worth a journey for this. A few decent cask ales too. Parts of the pub (bar and snug) are dog-friendly but the restaurant is dog-free. Parking can be very difficult as the pub is on a residential street.

Pubs (and restaurants) has had a tsunami of challenges facing them since the 2008 credit crunch. Any small and or independent pub (or restaurant) that has survived these financial tsunami’s deserve all the support they can get. Unfortunately many of the said surviving pubs which survived the financial crisis of 2008 and still managed to provide good or even fair quality food, stumbled after the challenges presented after the tsunamis of the past 8 years, which included the pandemic. With that in mind it is always great to still stumble upon pubs that are still able to provide good quality food, especially at mire reasonable prices.

We chose the Wheatsheaf as the food has been good on other occasions, nice to have food freshly cooked rather than ‘chain pub’ offerings. We had two dietary requirements and I negotiated with Rosie during the week before. Rosie couldn’t have been more helpful and so it continued during the evening. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone really enjoyed their meals, the menu is varied and very reasonably priced. Thank you Rosie, you really are a star

Firstly, a disclaimer - I am fortunate to be a Titchfield resident & The Wheatsheaf is my “local”- so you might think my description & review are somewhat biased! This establishment is a genuine Free House owned by landlord Mark, assisted by a team of friendly staff. An excellent range of cask beers are on hand pump and a true convivial, conversational atmosphere in the bar that is devoid of fruit machines, large screen TV etc. Dogs are welcomed except in the dining room. Food is all freshly prepared in house without resort to the likes of Brake Brothers catering trucks delivering the kind of predictable pub-grub on offer at most managed/chain pubs where the microwave & deep fat drier reign supreme! Finally, a critique of my most recent meal from the main menu - a Tomahawk Steak (approx. 1 Kilo ) for two sharing. Verdict- Absolutely splendid! Cooked to perfection and presented with an offer to portion it at the table or let us divide it ourselves with an appropriate large knife to do so! Accompanied by chips, onion rings, mushrooms, tomatoes & dressed salad leaves left us suitably sated with no room for dessert!

We had a family lunch here, for 14. The service was really good and the whole team worked well together, nothing was too much trouble. There were a good choice of roast dinners which were excellent, one of our group had fish and chips and another had the veggie wellington, both enjoyed their meals. Chocolate cheesecake looked the best overall dessert with the figs coming second and bread/butter pudding third. Xmas pudding was a little disappointing. Although they were busy, we had great attention and there didn't appear to be any issues or stress. Highly recommended and great value for money.

Pleasant ambience with a warm welcome. The small plates starters were mixed. 4 small prawns with garlic were hugely overpriced. Amazingly they had run out of mushrooms. My hake was lovely but was served in a very bland watery sauce containing undercooked potatoes. The main course mussels looked rather good and apparently tasted so. Not cheap so no tip left.

Brought our son who is over from Oz for a roast and was completely underwhelmed by the roast. Undercooked roast potato two small plates of veg for 4 of us with just enough cauliflower cheese for one and a complete foul up of my wifes vegetarian dish. Thin gravy too!!!!! Puddings were ridiculously small. So many friends who live in the village recommended us but boy oh boy was this disappointing.

Went on a semi busy Easter Sunday with a large table. Food was definitely sub par, overly greasy fish on the fish and chips and chips were rubbish, roast potatoes were kept warm under a heat lamp and dried out, small portions of veg and gravy asked for more and got the tiniest boat, asked for more again and none came back. Service was the only thing that saved it being a one star, but food is the priority.

I'd like to give 4.5 stars and the only reason I'd knock off half a star is because the full dining room became a bit noisy as there aren't any soft furnishings to absorb sound. Nevertheless, we had a delicious Sunday roast there - the roast potatoes and parsnips were wonderfully seasoned and cooked, and Yorkshire puddings came with all meats (which I was pleased about as I had roast chicken!). We then had scrummy pud's to follow, despite being full already! The standard of food was really exceptional. The landlord gave us a warm welcome and all the staff were friendly and gave great service. We'd definitely go back.

We were regular customers over a period of 7 years but food quality started to become quite hit and miss. However the service has always been excellent. We decided to give it another try on Tuesday (Pie & mash) night but wished we hadn’t bothered! We decided to try a couple of small starters, my husband ordered calamari and I opted for mini Camembert/ chutney. These starters were not reflective of the price (£7.25 each) as when they arrived there was only 3 calamari rings and the Cheese was hard to find under the herb crust which was not mentioned on the menu. There was more chutney and one slice of baguette which tasted stale. The waitress was very professional and acknowledged our issue and agreed to take off our bill. Unfortunately things didn’t get much better as When my chicken & mushroom pie arrived which did look delicious turned out to be undercooked. The pie was nice and brown on top but raw underneath which was a real shame. The chicken also looked processed with very little taste. The mash and gravy was very tasty and the fish pie my husband had was also very good. I know hospitality currently has lots of obstacles due to increased costs but food quality is a must if they want returning customers. Again the service was excellent and Jess our waitress dealt with our issues promptly and this was reflected in our final bill.

This is on the Warsash side of the river. A great location though some might think a little difficult to visit by car. Following a small lane you park in the boatyard, if you give them your vehicle details, your parking is free. We visited early in the evening and it was very quiet, I can imagine it’s more busy during the summer months. There is plenty of outside seating that looks really nice with a river view. We only had a drink but it is light, airy & modern.

I went here for Sunday roast and was left a little disappointed. The staff were excellent throughout. The roast beef was good, I had the trio roast which was with beef, pork and chicken (the chicken and pork were over done), and considering you pay more for this, I expected a larger amount of meat, instead it was a normal amount of meat but divided up into three different types of meat. Then the veg arrived and we were given the same portion as they gave to single and couple customers (I know this because I was looking around at other tables) were given but we were sharing between 4 people! Sharing a veg portion for one person between 4 meant we didn’t get much each. This I found very disappointing.
