Popped in for cup of tea after nice walk on fen. Fruit scones had just come out of oven, so seemed rude not to try them. Absolutely delicious and good cup of tea to go with it. Swallows dipping overhead and Sparrows helping out with the crumbs, a lovely peaceful stop didn’t even mind the rain!

I had a bit of time to kill before my train left so I decided to get a drink whilst I waited. On platform 1 of Ely station is Locoespresso so I ordered a green tea which is something I drink regularly. The young lady who served me was very polite and friendly and was quick to serve me. I get the impression she does not drink green tea herself as she asked me if I would like milk or sugar in my tea. Does anyone else have these in their green tea? I may be in a minority?!?

The plant and pot selection is very good. Large section of both. All the plants are in excellent condition. New spring stock now being put out. The entrance tunnel is very uninviting and needs a rethink to make it look like you are going somewhere you want to go. You have to wait to be seated at the entrance. Lots of tables have reserved signs on for lunch 1230, 1300 and empty. We as a couple did seat at one for 1300. It was only 1100 but reminded about 1045 at the time. Service was OK but not overly friendly but did their job. The tea was very good but the sausage rolls were excellent nice and tasty with good pastry. Yes we will be back for the quality of the plants.

Visited on a Sunday morning with our family. Rather busy inside but managed to find a table after a short wait. Lots of dogs and people on laptops inside. Ordered our drinks, 1 tea, 2 coffees and 1 hot chocolate, unfortunately the chocolate was barely warm, which was disappointing. Toilet area clean enough.

Came in at 3:30 pm on a Saturday. It was not busy, and there were three staff. The place was a mess with empty on all the tables; the dishwasher was not working, so paper cups only, although there were piles of clean mugs. The cakes were being packed away. The upstairs was "closed for cleaning". It looked to me that the staff had decided to do the bare minimum, and from the other reviews, I think I was right.

Decided to visit Sainsburys cafe for lunch as we were having some time in Ely. We were 3rd in the queue and gave our order after just a few minutes wait. The young man took our order for 2 meals and a child's meal very efficiently. He made 2 coffees and we sat down. Our food was delivered within 10 minutes. I enjoyed the All Day Breakfast, it was very good and the others cleared their plates! I consider that we had good value for money and would happily return.

Called in here today with my husband around 2pm for lunch, sat at a table that had bits of food on it and dirty plates so got up and moved to a clean table as two had dirty pots on them, read on the menu you had to take note of your table number and go in the next room to order your food,a lady was serving customers at the counter it was a take away too,I asked for two vegetable soups, the lady said I think there is only one left,I will check, she checked with the kitchen who told her there was enough for two people,so I as pleased and ordered granary bread to come with it and our drinks, our drinks came with no spoons,so I got up to the cutlery tray and got them.A couple had come in and sat at the dirty table, they blew the crumbs off,it was still dirty,we waited a good 20 minutes for our soup,a young waitress brought it out to us,with the bread,no knife to spread the butter,so I got up again and went to the cutlery tray to get two, there wasn't any,I had to go into the other room to ask for some,I sat down, saw about a third of a bowl full of beige water with bits of green floating on the top,my husband was drinking his,it was like water,I tasted on spoonful and stood up with it and took it back,I told the lady on the counter I was not eating that it was dish water,I put the spoon in and showed her how it ran straight off,she asked if I wanted something else or a refund,I asked for a refund, went and sat down and ate my bread and cup of tea,the waitress had taken the dirty tables order and asked them if they wanted the pots clearing away, the customer's face was a picture,we finished our drinks, went back to the counter and was apologised to and was refunded the soup money, never been to Ely before won't put me off this town, but will not return to that cafe.
