Went to The Cutter Inn for New Year’s Eve dinner and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The food was amazing, the service was excellent and the atmosphere throughout the restaurant and pub were fantastic. Would highly recommend this venue for any occasion and will definitely be going back.

Lovely venue and lovely staff. The food let them down I’m afraid to say. The so called hand battered fish was off, the smell when cut gave it away, with only one mouth full my partner stopped, good job too, as he was so unwell after. My share dishes were over cooked, maybe heated from the night before which was New Year’s Eve. My partner doesn’t like to complain or make a fuss but it was so disappointing in such a lovely place. As I said, the staff were very nice and welcoming, it was sad that the food was such low quality.

Our works Xmas meal didn't live upto it's expectations. I had a turkey dinner which was a big letdown. The meat looked like a chopped and shaped joint not a full breast roast, it was rather tasteless and rubbery, the same for the stuffing and the veg were not much better. The crayfish tails starter salad was uninspiring to look at and somewhat lacking in quantity & taste. A colleague had a simple fish n chips where the battered fish was unbelievably tough, I didn't think that was possible. Although I had no intention of complaining, neither of us had eaten much which was noticed by the staff. We were offered alternatives but opted for a complimentary drink. I can't fault the staff but the food wasn't great, although in their defence I had eaten there before and the food had been excellent.

Have previously enjoyed our visits here but this time it was a disappointment. The staff were hard working and friendly and there was a lovely buzz about the place. However, one set of toilets was out of action. The cod was solid in the centre They ran out of my choice of drink It may just be that in the run up to Christmas they’d taken their eyes off the ball but my friends and I left disappointed.

We went for a meal at 4:15, they were out of the roast (the main thing we went for) and a bunch of other items. Service was slow, the staff were rude and sulky and clearly didn't want to be there. We were 5 minutes late for our booking and our table still wasn't ready when we arrived. Complete lack of preparation on their side and when we asked about the roast "it stops at different times every day"... erm ? Put that on the menu then? Or order enough? If you're planning on going for a roast for Sunday dinner...don't bother.

The Cutter hosted our 80 person sit-down wedding reception and we honestly couldn't find fault. We had exclusive use of the restaurant from the night before and to set up décor and table plan. We comfortably seated 80 and the staff were helpful during set up and made the tables look incredible. On the day, there was not a single hitch. Prosecco was available when people arrived, all questions were answered, everyone was seated seamlessly, and all our vendors said the Cutter were great to work with. The staff were attentive throughout the day, tables were served and cleared quickly, and they were fun and friendly throughout. Incredible service. The food was delicious (a choice of starters and roast dinner). I had garlic mushrooms and chicken, I could eat the mushrooms every day and not get bored. The kitchen catered to a variety of dietary restrictions and allergies and all the coeliacs had high praise for the roast. We ended the night with a disco and the room was quickly turned around into a dancefloor. Being in our 40s, and having started at midday, we only lasted til just gone 11 but it was a great craic. We were nervous a few months before as we maybe wanted a bit more hand holding, but it turns out they just knew exactly what they were doing! The weeks leading up to the wedding we spoke regularly to Kirsty and Chloe, they provided all the reassurance and advice we needed and made the process so seamless and easy. I don't plan on getting married again but if I was, I would do it here!

I’ve never used the restaurant side of the Cutter, but have been to the pub side a lot. I go mainly for the location, it’s lovely by the river. BUT I do wish they’d up their game a bit. Nothing ever feels or looks clean. Sticky, wobbly tables. Smelly, dirty toilets with broken toilet seats. Bar staff aren’t friendly…it misses the welcoming touch you’d want from a pub. The last thing I’d want is the cutter to be modernised, I love its old pub charm, but it needs a deep clean and some TLC!! Owners potentially getting complacent and over relying on the location to keep customers returning?

Inconsistent sums this place up. We visited here a month ago and had a really good lunch (on a Saturday) We returned for Sunday lunch at the weekend and it was not good. My daughter had the burger and it was as tough as a hockey puck! So had to wait for a replacement not ideal especially being diabetic and had already had her insulin. The roast beef had a tang to it and my whole plate was covered in gravy think it was primarily school when I last had gravy put on for me, perhaps done to warm the lest than hot meal? Yes they knocked the burger off the bill and offered free desserts, which we declined! If you can’t get a burger right you have major issues!

Nice enough looking place by the water, reasonable drink selection. Unfortunately the food wasn't very good. Started off with having lipstick on my fork. I know lipstick is notorious for not coming off in a dishwasher, but surely should have been seen when laying the table. Starters - kids haloumi fries - they're bought in. Calamari, looked bought in frozen. Korean fried chicken, chicken dry as camel hoof, with a slimy, soggy covering of some kind of half-fried flour. Sauce on the side. Looked a mess, tasted worse. Mains - kids fish and chips, that was good. Kids beef burger, same. Steak and ale pie - standard, bought in pie. Drinks Aperol Spritz - thrown together, and not in the correct proportion. Not even stirred. Beer - choice of three ales. They were good. Service was friendly enough. Overall, nice venue - very budget food and not very budget prices. I'd go again for drinks, but wouldn't order food.

Set menu price was not on the bill, additional 30 minutes to get a manager to rectify. Overall food was ok, when it finally arrived, atmosphere was ok, was terrible!! Server claimed party of 30 upstairs causing delay but surely the pub knew they were coming and could have staffed appropriately.

Change your chef! Was violently ill on Saturday after eating here. Chicken shawarma… tahini sauce had no tahini, garlic or lemon as per menu. Asked for more and told to bring my plate back in. Not served on mid Eastern bread but on a greasy Indian style nan. I suspect it was either the soft hardly pickled pickles or chicken that made me sick. Only ate half as chicken also too dry. **TOURIST TRAP** Great location which has the potential to be a lovely spot. However this location is severely let down by its food and drink offerings. There is no wonder the staff do not come around and ensure everything is “ok” with your food. Drink prices I can accept for the location. However what cannot be accepted is the quality and cost of the food. £18 for a fish and chips with what looked to be an inner sole flash fried and some raw chips. I have sympathies to the young staff who are left to man this pub on what was a quiet Monday lunchtime, so not even a busy period can be blamed. I would steer well clear of this and find other offerings in the town. Resisting the need for a nice location. I hope this review spurs the management on to make improvements as opposed to cashing in on their location on the front. It has the potential to be a real draw for Ely.

Beautiful location by the river side but unfortunately the food we ordered can only be described as poor. The triple cooked chips were basic oven style chips slightly undercooked and the curry sauce was watery and tasteless. The meze board was poor also .. a handful of olives with a toasted pita bread a spoonful of houmus and some cold mushrooms not in anyway pickled … such a shame we didn’t read the reviews before we went but fortunate not to have paid the expensive price of a main course . We have been here years ago and came back because we had a good experience back then. Things have changed. Prices up food quality rock bottom. My wife order pie with mash which should have come with seasonable veg. The seasonable veg turned out to be cooked cabbage (in June). The pie was nothing to write home about and as good as those you buy in a supermarket. I ordered the Mexican buttermilk chicken burger which the menu said included avocado. I received 2 bits of battered deep fried chicken in a bun. Looking for the avocado I discovered a thin layer of guacamole which was so thin you couldn’t taste it and a few other small leaves of salad. There was absolutely nothing Mexican about this burger and quite frankly, a chicken burger from McDonalds would have tasted better. The fries were fried that had not gone off just yet but should have been replaced. I am normally not somebody to quickly leave bad reviews but this was so bad that I justified the effort. Very poor experience,

We celebrated the graduation of one of our children, an event repeated last year and Kirsty and staff didn't disappoint with a lovely dinner for 15. Given the late evening request, not unlike last year, the Cutter Inn & staff executed a perfect evening! All of our meal selections were very delicious, excellently prepared, appropriately portioned, and abundant. We were seated in the large dining room near the river and that made for a wonderful view. Kirsty and her staff were very attentive, courteous, expeditious in serving and a delight. The Filet/Ribeye were perfectly prepared, the desserts such as the salted chocolate caramel brownie, apple crumble, and especially the sticky toffee pudding, were spot on. One of our guests is a culinary chef and she stated the meals were excellently prepared and superbly delicious. I’ve eaten at the bar, restaurant and come here for drinks all on different occasions. The pub is one of the easiest pubs to access from the south side of the city. It has off road parking with 20 spaces or so. On the the occasion that the parking is full, there is limited parking on the roads near by ( depending on the time of day ) The venue is adaptable in food options available to you either with a higher end restaurant or just good pub grub.

Place is like a weathetspoons in a scenic location . Tatty, naff decor. Food poor. Our waitress was good though, apologised profusely about the 40 minute wait for food to arrive and attentive but bit of a disappointment

My mother, husband and I visited the Cutter Inn in Ely on Sunday for Sunday lunch. On arrival the staff were very friendly and we were advised that we had a table allocated upstairs. We have been seated upstairs before several times over the years and all had previously been fine. On this occasion, it felt like everyone seated upstairs was an after thought. The tables hadn't been set in the same way as they had been downstairs as we walked through. We were seated at our table and asked if we would like some water for the table. We replied, yes please but also asked for sparkling as well as tap water. That lady never came back to us, but another waitress arrived with the tap water. I asked about the sparkling water and she said she didn't know about it and would have to go and ask. We gave her the drinks orders for my mum and husband and off she went. She came back with a large bottle of sparkling water and so I asked her to change it for a small one. Off she went again down the stairs and came back with a small bottle. We asked for menus so off she went again downstairs to get the menus (you get the drift of this farce), it was as if they were just unprepared for us sitting upstairs, even though we had booked well in advance. They eventually came to take our food order. The food came. My husband and mother's food was fine as they had ordered other dishes from the a la carte menu whereas I had chosen the roast beef Sunday lunch. When it arrived the meal look insipid, no colour whatsoever on the roast potatoes or roast parsnips, they were both still hard, the roast beef had the most peculiar taste and the gravy was as weak as water. This is the worst Sunday lunch I have ever had to be honest and really not up to standard. The whole experience was shambolic to say the least. I will not be having Sunday lunch at the Cutter again, which is a shame, as we have been many times over many years and never had any problems. The service was just dreadful.

Arriving at the location and having the cathedral insight makes you hopeful for a lovely experience, however entering the tavern you instantly notice a lack in atmosphere. Once seated the smell of urine starts to become noticeable however at this point you already feel as if you're past the point of leaving so begin to decide what to eat, with the menu looking promising. Due to having poor network within the location I had to order at the bar as the online ordering wouldn't work for me, this though wasn't too bad as the staff were friendly and helpful. As a collective my table order 3 x mix grills and one sauce and mash with a large Yorkshire putting along with a side of cheesy garlic break and some onion ring after a night of drinking leaving us rather hunger and wanting any food simply edible which most would think is a easy task. Once the food arrived though disappoint didn't take long to set in as the food was some of the worst food I have had the please of eating. The chicken was clearly frozen and dryer than the cardboard box it probably arrived in, all steaks where over cooked bland and clearly a cheap cut of meat even the simple things couldn't be done properly as the peas where undercooked. At this point you'd like to think all of that was the worse part however it's now time to talk about the sausage like seriously how can you call it a Cumberland sausage as you can properly find more pork within the veggie menu honestly disappointed would never go back as it a shame to go to such a lovely village and be let down by the simple things. Avoid avoid avoid

The Yard has got to be one of the best additions to Ely. It has a really lovely relaxing vibe about it. The team is always so friendly and attentive, too. We quite often pop in for coffee. We've enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner on many occasions. The menu has a good selection for everyone to enjoy. It's been really good to see The Yard evolve from when it first opened. The addition of roller doors has made it a great place to escape bad weather. The Nordic Pods are fabulous. We were lucky enough to book a pod for Boxing Day. They are warm, comfortable and so cosy on a cold day. The Yard hosts plenty of events and themed evenings. We especially like the silent speed quiz on Wednesdays. Well done to at The Yard for creating such a wonderful place that is enjoyed by all in the community.
