Decided to visit Sainsburys cafe for lunch as we were having some time in Ely. We were 3rd in the queue and gave our order after just a few minutes wait. The young man took our order for 2 meals and a child's meal very efficiently. He made 2 coffees and we sat down. Our food was delivered within 10 minutes. I enjoyed the All Day Breakfast, it was very good and the others cleared their plates! I consider that we had good value for money and would happily return.

Had a long wait, followed by one "all day breakfast" which had some quite impressive features such as a brace of sausages which looked like they had been shown some heat (lots of it) only on one side, A "fried" egg, probably cooked in some egg contraption which managed to defy all egg cooking laws of thermal dynamics in that the yolk was rock hard but had a considerable amount of snotty white, Half a raw tomato and a large flat slightly warm mushroom still sporting its original compost to show off its unwashed, natural state. On the other hand, the impossibly thin bacon was ok and the hash brown was the absolute highlight. 0/10, will never return

Myself and family were at Ely today and I have to say we were very disappointed. Not only was there not any soup which was on menu the cold drinks machine was out of action. The cake containers were all empty and my jacket potato was luke warm. The whole place seems to have lost its way and it’s such a shame as it surely wouldnt take much to improve things.

Popped in today to get some make up for a photoshoot. Met an amazing lady called Mel at the make up counter. She gave me advice o the best type for a photo shoot (Matt finish) and colour matched me. So honest and professional. I am so pleased with the outcome. Thanks Mel

On arrival to the resturant there was a long line of people waiting to be served. Only one person making coffees and taking orders, this was insufficient. I ordered an all day breakfast and a coffee. Coffee took 5 minutes to serve, there was no sugar in the sugar tray. On asking for sugar i was rudely told, by one of the kitchen girls, there was no sugar who then disappeared into the kitchen at haste. Breakfast arrived at my table 10mins later. It was at best ok, over cooked egg, bacon and beans. The breakfast is cheap at £5.75 buy still not worth the quality and rude service

Rude, unprofessional, unmature, untrained stuff with an anti-customer service and disgraceful and poor attitude. I can't even say how badly they treated me today only because I confronted weaker-minded employee about her rude and disgusting behaviour. You should be ashamed. I have never ever experienced anything like this before and I hope these people will bear the consequences of their wrongful actions.

Let me start this review by saying that I am in no way criticising the staff who work at the cafe counter. They are polite and helpful but I do think that they are working at a place with a management who preside over a poorly designed cafe where waiting times to be served are unreasonably slow. Lat Saturday I called in for a breakfast .It was about 10; 45 and the queue was at the cold counter where the sandwiches are, there were perhaps 5 people in front of us.If you had never visited before you have to wait till you get to the till to see what food is available;poor design feature number 1. I found a table and watched my wife's progress , or rather lack of it.Twenty minutes later she was served and after a further 10 -15 minutes our breakfast arrived. The food is of a decent quality , but the wait is ridiculous. The main culprit as far as I can see is the infernal coffee choice. It would be quicker to strip down a gearbox than serve 2 coffees. Why don't they follow Asda or Morrison's example and put the machines away from the till because the staff at Sainsbury's just press the buttons on the machine ,as a paying customer is perfectly capable of.The lay out and design is at fault because it bottlenecks at the till when one person is taking food orders and serving drinks ( as was the case when we had afternoon tea today )There also seems a disproportionate number of kitchen staff to staff who serve at the counter, particularly this afternoon.I watched a woman in the queue with four people in front of her and she waited 10 minutes before she was served : I can get through passport control in the same time at Stansted and that is saying something. Please sort out the layout and design, staff it properly and then people can enjoy great quality products, matched by efficient service.

This cafe is awful , I visit it at least once per month since saino’s opened , the most shocking thing about is the amount of menu items it’s always unable to do , due to running out of ingredients , but wait , it’s a supermarket ? , for example if you want a breakfast baguette , you’ll end up with a dry bap with a couple of microwaved sausages in , no butter , because they would of run out of baguettes , bacon and butter , fizzy drinks machine too out of order most the time , food all bland and microwaved . Cups often stained ,. Also the shop itself has a extremely rude woman on the deli counter , she has dark hair , she huffs when she sees you waiting to be served and makes it clear your putting her out by serving you , when I see her now , I don’t even bother with the deli counter , yet the woman with the red hair is extremely nice and friendly and deserves a pay rise. Also watch your receipt as a lot of thing on offer, still mark up at full price ,few recent examples Whisper half price M&ms share pouch half price Chewing gum multipack half price All still charged full

The food is sort of average supermarket (sometimes can go down to poor) but it can take AGES. I now always take my receipt (the till time is on it) and if the "fast food" is taking more than 1/2 hour its time to complain. It used to regularly take that long but it is now a little better. Staff are generally great but there just arent enough of them and they dont have the facilities.

I'm surprised to read the other reviews, never had a problem here, I guess staff could be slightly more accommodating and abit more passion into the food. But hey, it's sainsburys cafe not a boutique. Foods always fine, standard but also very reasonably priced. Never had any problems

We popped in at the end of a long journey during which we got lost in the middle of the Fens. We were all hungry, so we decided to eat in the cafe. Big mistake! It was very busy, so it was understandable there a long wait - I didn't mind that. I DID mind having to sit at a filthy table covered in ketchup, and having to ask a passing server if he'd mind cleaning it, which he did a few minutes later. I then overheard the staff dealing with another customer's complaint and mutter to her colleague "oh, for god's sake", which seemed quite appalling and unprofessional to me. Our meals finally arrived (and again, I didn't mind the long wait, as the restaurant was packed) but no cutlery came with our meal. My husband went to ask the server for some, and was to told to help himself - but the cutlery tray was empty. No a single clean knife, fork or spoon anywhere. So my husband asked the man again, and he was told they were "just being washed". TWENTY MINUTES LATER WE WERE STILL WAITING! My husband had asked three or four times, the server was starting to get a bit surly, and our food was STONE COLD. Astonishing! I then overheard (again) the other staff member say that the cutlery had just come out the dishwasher but was "too hot" - which was more than could be said for our meals by this point. We ate our cold food and left in a hurry. On our way out, we saw someone had been sick all over the floor, and the staff's method of cleaning it was to put a chair over the top. We won't be going back...

Staff are always friendly, yes you might have to wait a while to be served but the staff work as quick as you can. Food wise- it's good value for money and the meals are wholesome and well cooked. Ignore the idiots who post on here complaining about the supermarket, this is the café!

8.30am..popped in for supplies...got to the tills..only two out of about twelve were open (fairly normal for Ely Sainsburys) . I went over to the two staff standing chatting by the auto tills to ask if they could open another till and was addressed in a pretty rude manner by both of them and told to use the autotills...I did..as I felt it would be easier than arguing with idiots! I hate autotills..they always fail..and to be honest, why the hell should I use them! If Sainburys expect me to do their work for them then they should PAY me! Tesco for me next time..a bit further..but they always have more staffed tills open.

Was with my Girlfriend and Mum doing a weekly shop also looking around the 25% discount clothes, we decided to have time out. There was a queue but the staff were quick. Had a sausage baguette it tasted good, only floor was we found a very small piece of metal in the baguette which was a concern should we have swallowed it. I alerted the cafe manager who didn’t hesitate to give me refund and aplogies

We have been to other Sainsbury's stores café and had the steak and ale pie and the jacket potato before and they have been perfect and very tasty, in every one we've tried. So as we were at Ely we decided to go in and have the same again. Oh dear, what a waste of money. The steak and ale pie was very dry, the meat was overcooked and the gravy inside dried up, The jacket potato was very poor, it was only warm and skin was soft like it'd just been standing. Nothing like we've had at other stores. The cleaner was complaining to a customer she knew nearby to our table about how she'd been told off that morning, that didn't seem very appropriate for other customers to hear either. It wasn't very busy, like other Sainsbury's cafes we've been to either, so I guess that says it all.

Quite a few tables, but they are fairly small with not a lot of elbow room. The cool cabinet for sandwiches was out of action, so there was only a small selection of sandwiches and toasties. The prices are good though, most are a fiver or less. Ask for a sandwich, you get a sandwich - no salad, no coleslaw, no crisps, no extras on your plate like several other places we have visited. The coffee was rather tasty at a good price.

Good cafe here where there's no trimmings but what is described is what you get , but it is delivered in good time and guality is good . meals are excellent value with good portions . Daily specials are particularly good . Nearly all meals around £5 so no complaints . If your shopping and want a meal you won't be disappointed .

Staff were standing talking when the floor was badly in need of a good sweeping, and tables piled up with dirty trays etc. We were ignored whilst we waited for service, then met with little more than a grunt from the scruffy looking girl who served us. Food no more than mediocre at best. Maybe we hit at a bad time, but there is no excuse for such filthy surroundings whilst staff watch on and do nothing. Last visit we wii ever make to Ely cafe

Scrambled eggs on toast I expected nice food here, garden centre cafes tend to serve nice food, however the Eggs were cooked in the microwave, rubbery and tasteless, it’s not difficult so scramble an egg in a pan now is it.

We visited 3 Nov. Good Coffe & lovely service from 2 young ladies , but spoilt by rude & sarcastic service from a middle aged bleach blonde lady who thought my daughters allergies & concerns were irrelevant. My daughter had a reaction & queried the contents of the product with the lady who was rude & dismissed her concern & sarcastically asked if she wanted an ambulance! A simple query that was appallingly dealt with. Not good enough, do better.

Had a lovely meal, tasty hot food, well presented. Very good service, polite, friendly and even double checked everything was ok as one of us left some fish so they came to check it was ok. Highly recommend.
