I had a bit of time to kill before my train left so I decided to get a drink whilst I waited. On platform 1 of Ely station is Locoespresso so I ordered a green tea which is something I drink regularly. The young lady who served me was very polite and friendly and was quick to serve me. I get the impression she does not drink green tea herself as she asked me if I would like milk or sugar in my tea. Does anyone else have these in their green tea? I may be in a minority?!?

With cafes on both platforms at the very busy Ely rail station it offers just what the traveller, mostly commuters, want. The coffee is good, service is rapid as it has to be, and the staff are friendly and remember their regulars so they know just what you want without even having to ask.

Newmarket Road
We pulled up Google maps to find a place near to where we were for a bite to eat and drink. For lunch I ordered the scallops absolutely amazed by that meal. Sensational, perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. Service from everyone there was excellent. What a find it was. I only post when a place has amazed me like this place.

The Yard, 35A Newnham StreetI like the concept of this place, nice and relaxed vibe. But when you get there you have no idea what to do or how to order. When I booked online I couldnt book for our group of 12 so I called as advised and they wouldnt take the booking over the phone (?) but said book online for 10 people and write in the notes its for 12. Which I did....when we got there the table was sat for 10 of us but really you could only sit about 8. So we all squeezed in with our dogs and figured out how to order food and drinks (which you have to do at separate areas so its all a bit of a faff). Sadly the food took well over an hour to arrive at the collection point, we checked 3 times to ensure our buzzer was working and we were absolutely starving.....there was a sign stating a wait of up to 45 mins but our wait time was silly.....place was busy-ish but by no means heaving. The food was all fine for everybody, some of the options were unavailable, but we all got fed in the end. I personally think its overpriced for what it is but we wanted a casual, sociable meeting space for family so all was well. We didnt want to wait around again for desserts so went elsewhere for coffee and ice creams. An OK experience but wouldnt go out of my way to visit again. Have to say the limited amount of staff were friendly though!

Station RdHad a very poor quality breakfast bap from Ely Food Station recently. The sausage was cheap poor quality. They put egg mayonnaise in the bap rather than a fried egg which was very strange and not a pleasant surprise at all. The Bap itself was cheap poor quality. It cost me £5.75 which I thought was expensive but was happy to pay if it was actually edible but this was terrible. Don’t waste your money here.
