The best restaurants serving Italian food in Wales

Would have been nice to go to if they had updated their location on maps. Drove half an hour to be greeted with a closed and empty place that hadn’t opened in months

Pizza didn't really have much flavour, the tomato base was almost non existent, and the grease levels were extremely unpalatable. Very disappointing, this isn't even close to what pizza should be like, and I won't be back.

Very good food and great service.

Came to Cardiff today, first time in over a year, we had our obligatory visit to Giovannis. My daughters had the cheese croquettes, spaghetti bolognaise, my partner had the Arrabbiata extra spicy and I had the home made lasagne. Cannot fault this place. Excellence service and the food is outstanding. If you like home made Italian food this is the place

Seated straight away although we hadn't booked. Served within 5mins. Checked to make sure everything was OK and if we wanted anything. Easy payment system.

Celebramos el cumpleaños de mi pareja reservando una mesa para el viernes temprano por la noche en este conocido restaurante de Swansea que lleva 30 años. Nos recibió el personal de espera que nos ofreció una buena mesa junto a la ventana con vistas al puerto deportivo. Había una pizarra de especialidades diarias, que incluía varios platos de pescado, además de un menú establecido que ofrecía platos tradicionales de pasta y carne. Mi compañera eligió la lubina, que había quedado impresionada con anterioridad, mientras que yo elegí del menú nocturno de dos platos que cuesta 20 libras esterlinas, cóctel de gambas y suplemento Manzo 4 libras, (roulade de ternera cocinado en una rica salsa de tomate) junto con patatas salteadas. La lubina era grande y se cocinó perfectamente y era tan bueno como la primera vez que mi pareja lo había comido. Mi cóctel de gambas tenía abundantes gambas con una agradable mezcla de ensaladas. El plato Manzo fue excepcional y disfruté mucho de la rica salsa de tomate que venía servida. Terminamos con los desiertos de Crème brûlée y Affogato que redondearon las cosas muy bien. Los licores de limoncello se proporcionaron de forma gratuita, que fue un toque encantador. ¿Entonces volveremos? Sí, definitivamente y bastante pronto después de la gran experiencia que tuvimos comiendo aquí.

Had a table booked for the evening. Within 4 mins, WaiterA took our drinks order. Great. 1 minute later, WaiterB approached to take our food order, but we weren’t ready as we were still waiting for our drinks. 15 mins later, we had to get the attention of WaiterC to place our food order. Around 30 mins later, we noticed a couple at a separate table, who arrived after us, had already finished their starter and were munching on their mains. Meanwhile, another couple, who arrived even later, were enjoying their starter. Throughout the evening, various waiters were offering parmesan cheese and pepper to other tables without the diners needing to ask. Eventually we got the attention of WaiterD and asked him about our order. WaiterD returned shortly after to confirm our order. After a whole 1 hour from entering the restaurant, our starter finally arrived, but the calamari was rubbery. 15 mins later, our mains arrived, and I ordered a glass of Rioja. However, we had to flag down WaiterC for parmesan cheese and pepper, which other tables had been offered without prompting. WaiterC brought pepper, while WaiterE brought parmesan. We then got the attention of WaiterF to order more drinks and inquire about the Rioja. She sorted it out quickly and efficiently, standing out amidst the otherwise poor service. When we asked WaiterC for the bill, WaiterB brought it and processed the payment. However, 2 mins later, WaiterB returned to inform us he had undercharged us by £1, which was laughably ridiculous and comical at that point. Aside from WaiterF, the service was terrible. Altogether, we had 6 waiters. Maybe the restaurant will be better served if waiters worked their own section/tables as opposed to it being a free for all. If we ever go back, we can only hope the experience improves.

I visited this place several years ago with my daughter who was 8 at the time. The owner asked what she was dong at school. She mention that she was learn ing the cello. He produced a violin which he said he had recently acquired at a jumble sale and gave it her to try. She could not play it so he asked if she minded if he tried. What happened then I will never forget. He played that violin to concert violinist standards, absolutely amazing. The food is great but the violin playing is just superb. I hear it is closed temporarily as he has had a hip operation. I wish him a full recovery and my sincere thanks for what he did on the very special visit all those years ago!

What an amazing find, fantastic little Italian restaurant, really friendly staff, absolutely divine food, a wonderful experience from start to finish! Thanks for making our valentine's evening special.

Have just returned from a wonderful meal at La Calabria. A warm welcome, friendly waitress and amazing food. We have visited here previously a couple of years ago and it was even better than we remembered. Decent portion sizes, reasonable value. All in a 3 course meal for 2 under £70! We will definitely return next time we are in the area!

Well I've been going here a couple of years on and off. I like the ruby chocolate but on this day, a Sunday there were only 2 cakes. A blonde and a chocolate cake both looked very unhapitising so we walked out. There are only ever those 2 cakes, nothing nice. We wasn't spoken too either. Needless to say we went to Costa, plenty of choice there and it was rammed. Won't bother again. Disappointing visit.

We visited this restaurant last night. We arrived and had the jovial waiter. We placed our order for the food and for the wine and a non alcoholic beer. The starter arrived lots of Olives but no balsamic vinegar. The starters went and then came the main meal, still no wine or drinks arrived. Then another waitress asked if we would like a drink and we said we had ordered wine, I will chase it, it still never came. Then the waiter came over asking if we would like to order some drinks, we said we had he said what and we said no 8 for the wine, we were told it was out of stock, so we had another choice. The res wine eventually arrived cold. The steak was not cooked how I had asked, covered in a gravy and I asked for a steak knife and the waiter just changed one knife for another the same. I did ask the waiter what was the gravy and he had no idea

During our stay kids ate free which made a helpful difference with the price. The food was pretty good, amazing but pretty good. We tried pasta and pizzas and both were enjoyable. The portions were all really good and we all left full! Would be happy to eat here again.

Enjoyed a solo trip here with my dogs. The fererro rocher sundae was delicious, service was good, will definitely be back.
