Pizza Express in Cardiff

Food was cold. Had to warm it up in the oven. Very disappointed

pizza was not cut and all the cheese fell off the base leaving only tomato sauce.. base was chewy..

Delicious pizza and excellent customer support. Mr. Ania provided excellent customer service.

The mozzarella sticks were soggy, the muchrooms were just as bad! The meat balls were chewy

I enjoyed a really tasty New Year’s Day lunch here with my wife and young daughter, made really special thanks to great attentive service from Anh. Our 3 year old is a really fussy eater but with Anh’s help we were able to find a combination of dishes she really liked on the kids menu. The La Reine pizza as a Romana upgrade was great, while the chilli king prawns are a really nice starter. I’d thoroughly recommend using the Pizza Express app, which gave us over £30 in savings, making the meal excellent value.

The food was amazing, we had a three-course Christmas edition on that day, and it was great. The only thing is the waiting time between the food; it takes ages, although there was not much busy. We already finished the pizza, and waiting for the dessert to come in took more than 20 mins as far as I remembered. The food and service are okay, but I didn't enjoy the dine-in experience in this branch.

Kept on changing the delivery time which went from 06.45 to 07.50. When it did arrive the pizza was cold and overcooked, dough balls were also cold and hard. Never again

Visited for dinner before the Comedy club. The restaurant was really busy with pre-theatre diners. Although it was clear that the team were rushed off their feet, their cheery demeanour and friendly, efficient service made for a fantastic visit. The food was really fresh and delicious. Ańh and Steven both provided great service, thankyou 😊

My partner took me here for my birthday and the manager took us to our table and near enough through the menus on the table and walked off. Our waiter then came over, took our order with no smile or personality. My partner ordered a pizza and i ordered a calzone. Then our food arrived and my partner was really happy with his, whereas mine was stone cold. Told a member of staff and they gave me the option of either heating it up or cooking a fresh one. I obviously went for a fresh one. 25mins later the new one arrived and that was was stone cold as well!! I was really not happy, so I got the manager over and his option was to have my calzone to be a pizza. So I agreed. I waiting another 20mins for my food. It was finally nice and hot. As soon as I finished we asked for the bill. They only offered £2 off our bill!!! My partner was not happy at all and then in the end they took £10 off our bill and then left. We will never be going back there again. Really wasn't happy with the experience and ruined the evening to my birthday 😕

Absolutely lovely atmosphere! Our waitress Ilka and the manager Julianna went the extra mile. The drinks were perfectly prepared and food was fast to arrive. Definitely go again because of all the staff’s attentiveness 👍🏼.

I was short of time yesterday lunch time and in a small group, waiter helped to get us seated, pizzas were really good and service brilliant. Helped us with app with bill. Would definitely recommend and go back.

We had a very enjoyable meal out with Anh as our waitress. She did a superb job of reassuring us that nothing was too much effort, kept us well supplied with drinks and took us through how to download and make the most of the Pizza Express App. She made our dining experience a very happy one! Food was great too ;)

The tomato sauce on the pizza was unpleasantly sweet. I won't order from here again.

I attended for lunch as a family of 4. We all had pizza which were cold and very over priced. I have been a customer for years however the romana base is stretched so thin it is almost transparent. I realise the cost of everything has risen however I still want value for money. We paid £10 for dessert that was just a slice of cake and a portion of ice cream. My husband had a large bottle of larger that wasn’t cold so he wasn’t happy. We were all disappointed. I must say the waitress was lovely.

I was seated in a section that wasn’t visible to staff, lots of tables hadn’t been cleared so obviously I’d come in after a very busy period, I ordered my pizza and it did take awhile to arrive, unfortunately it was dried looking, hard egg on it and wasn’t hot, nothing like the lovely juicy pizzas I’d enjoyed over the years of eating out at various locations of this chain. I beckoned the waiter and told him that it was dry and not hot so he whisked it away and returned a few minutes later with the same one but heated up, hence it was even more tough and dry!…asked how this one was I was a bit upset and told him it was frankly horrid as it was the original heated up!…two members of staff then asked me if they could make me a fresh one but I declined, it trusting a third disaster..meanwhile My large glass of red wine and side salad had been served to me but I hadn’t touched the salad and had only sipped a small amount of the wine, I had water that I had to ask for previously, they were busy in the main room so it had taken ages to arrive..so, having declined another pizza attempt I offered to pay for my wine and salad, the servers, very kindly, told me that what I had was complimentary and apologised for the pizza. If restaurants are overstretched or short staffed, surely they shouldn’t seat punters if they can’t cope ? So beware, All eateries in a well known chain are not always necessarily as good as each other .

My friend and I were looking for somewhere to have lunch. We saw the pizza and soft drink offer and wanted to try it. A nice waitress sat us, another took our order while ensuring we had a good time. The only slightly upsetting thing was the "Romana" option. It cost a bit more for the crispy thin, and it was mostly just soggy in the middle. Otherwise, it was all very tasty. Decided to stay for dessert which was a nice ending.

Came down spontaneously as we saw their deal online (order pizza from classic menu and get another for £1). Anh took care of us outside as the sun was shining and she couldn’t do enough for us. Even gave me a blanket when it was getting chillier later on in the evening. If we signed in via the QR code on the table it took us to the app and we received free dough balls, on top of the pizza deal! It was really special, and such a great offer to get people in during the quieter season! Thank you so much anh we loved it so much and can’t wait to come again!

Good food and great service by Anh. My husband and I sat outside as we had our dogs and Anh offered us blankets on what was a chilly early September evening. We were all catered for including a bowl of water for the dogs. Will come again.

Fast friendly service. Our waitress Anh couldn't do enough for us. So lovely and helpful. Food was served quickly and was delicious.

The restaurant was very busy as it was the summer holidays and I knew my children with autism would struggle. The staff were really accommodating and opened the outside area for us to sit where my daughter would be more comfortable. Service was gast and all the staff were polite and helpful. Food was expensive but was worth it to have a dining experience my children could deal with and I could relax.

Food was great. Desserts were fantastic and the service we had was brilliant. The lady looking after us Anh could not do enough for us. She was brilliant. Would highly recommend and will be going back. It’s now my favourite Pizza Express.

Used to be our go-to place before seeing a show. Not anymore. Slow service, flat drinks, reduced dough balls starter, mean Caesar Salad with chicken and no croutons. Pizza arrived cold and dough “sticks?”if had been cooked properly/heated before arrived flabby and cold. Couldn’t get the attention of anybody but the manager who was working his behind off whilst everybody else was on go-slow. It was a very warm day and doors were open which was not enough to cool the place or warm customers. No air-con. Tables outside were being attacked by seagulls because they weren’t being cleared quickly enough. Don’t waste your hard-earned dough here! Somebody should mystery-shop Cheltenham and then Cardiff Bay. The difference is quite something. This is a very poor example of a Pizza Express.

Food ideas certainly tasty and staff attentive but price is a little over the top compared with independent restaurants - hence the four stars not five.

Brought my cousin and her husband here because they were craving pizza. Anne, our server was amazing! She was really friendly and really nice. She made us feel really well looked after! The tall chap with the glasses and beard was really nice too but I didn't get his name. Thanks for a fab time!

So we arrived in the bay on sunday 9th june, we had pre booked a table, food was really nice, on our last night in the bay we booked a table, we arrived a little early due to the weather, we sat down and the waiter came over and took our order, he has to be one of the best waiters ive known, he stood and had a chat about the area and where we had travelled from, he came over and checked on us, he was just brilliant, the food came out in a nice amount of time, so good, we left him a tip i believe his name was Duncan,

Jess was very friendly and helpful gave good recommendations on vegan menu and good recommendation on bear very helpful

We usually enjoy Pizza Express but this one was a little disappointing. Even though the restaurant looked pretty quiet, it took a while to be seated and then even more time to take our order. Food was good but the size of the pizzas and plates mean that the tables for two feel a bit cramped. Not cheap at nearly £60 for doughballs, two pizzas and two soft drinks.

Ate as a family of four on a Thursday night at 5. We booked online and glad we did as it was very busy. The service was excellent. The lady who served us was friendly and efficient, and the man who brought out our pizzas was a character. Ordered calamari, Pollo Milanese, lemon and herb Chicken wings, gf burnt ends pizza, classico Florentine, la reine and a romagno, side of halloumi bites. We also had dessert. All food was excellent quality and served in an appropriate time. Chatted to who I think was the manager on the way out and even used some of my Italian with him which was lovely! Again, he was very friendly. Would definitely return.

Unfortunately not a good experience. When the waitress was taking my order she kept trying to change my decision and saying that what I was trying to order ‘wasn’t her favourite’ and that I should ‘try something different’. Just a bit weird I thought. She was trying to persuade me to order a different pizza. When the food arrived my partner ordered another drink. We seen the waitress disappear to the drinks area but then obviously got distracted and forgot about us as she continued to serve other customers and clear plates from different tables. About 20 minutes went by and the drink didn’t arrive so we had to ask another server for it- which he kindly did. At this point I was already feeling disappointed in the experience but unfortunately things got worse. I was almost finished my pizza when I unfortunately found a long dark hair mixed in with the toppings of my pizza. This truely put me off and I couldn’t finish my meal. P.S the waitress had green hair

I don’t know who the delivery guy gave my food to but it was never delivered. The app says it was but I never received it. Not even a single call.

The pizza was great. It’s just the portion that is not enough for the price. Overall amazing staff very welcoming and amazing food.

I went here for lunch against my instincts but with my wife's, as usual spot on. Service could have been better, waiter staff seemed more interested in themselves than the customer. Just IMO. The food was better than I expected. Compliments to the lady chef who did not seem to get much attention. Will we come back? -- this is not the most fun place (Cardiff) in the world. Poor service It took 20minutes to get the waiting staff’s attention to order drinks and another 15 minutes to get the drinks. Lack of organisation in the waiting staff and the person who looked like the front of house manager was disinterested. Shame because having a business in this location must be a gold mine. Squandered opportunity!

Just popped in for a quick lunch and our waitress, Courtney, was brilliant and super helpful. She definitely brightened up our lunch time.

Very poor customer service from entering to leaving. When we arrived the member of staff was abrupt, we were sat down and after 15 minutes of waiting I had to ask if someone could serve us, drinks were slow coming to the table, starter was very poor value for money. Pizzas were lovely. Paying the bill was a nightmare. Very disappointed and not what we have been used to in the past.

The service by the young lady was good the 3 Asian boys making the food made me and my friend uncomfortable by looking and laughing We went for a quite neal after a long day at work only to put a large group right behind our table who clearly don’t have table manners or respect for other dinners these wear older people overall not a enjoyable evening .

Went into the restaurant for a meal before work and it was fab, my order was taken within minutes of being sat down. My drinks arrived within 2 minutes and I had my food within 10. Service and atmosphere was very relaxing and kind. Plus food is fantastic as always.

Last night me and my wife went here for a date night and we were left feeling like we had to leave a review for Anh, our waitress for the night. She was so lovely, kind, speedy and attentive that she made our whole experience so much more enjoyable! She's a credit to the restaurant and we'll definitely be coming back again :)

We went as a family with the posters on the door saying 'VIP' referencing a good price for food, well that was wrong. £77 for 3 soft drink, 3 pizza and two garlic bread was expensive. Then came the drink, server holding the glasses inside the rims and then dumping them on the table. Food followed which was limited on taste and two of the pizza looked as though they were on a cheese diet as we needed a microscope to see it. Overall, a poor expereince which I would stay away. It wasnt full and there was enough staff, if honest, you can do better with Zizzi if it is pizza you want or other better locations in the Bay.

We preordered our meal due to our large group, they changed the menu before we entered and proceeded to blame us for their obvious mistake, my friend struggles with change and thanks to their lack of care she had to deal with a change in her meal and was very upset, not acceptable, on top of that the waitress was rude and clearly frustrated, as someone who has worked in hospitality for a while I was appalled by her insensitivity towards our table and rushed us in our orders

The worst family meal ever. We all agreed. It was cold, (delivered by push bike). It was undercooked and tasted awful. Seriously, don’t waste your money. Get a sandwich. It will be hotter and fresher! Oh and it cost £70.00.

What an amazing place to come to was busy as there was a concert on but the service and food was absolutely amazing our host a little Vietnam lady was absolutely amazing I didn’t catch her name but fair play absolutely brilliant place I definitely highly recommend to go there again also they take cash and card and that’s brilliant

We visited Pizza Express at this Cardiff Branch with family. It's a very busy place but it's managed very well. The services and staff are very geared up . Very effective and efficient. What I was much impressed is how they handle services for allergies. We were asked about our allergies and were seated immediately. Soon after placing the order, food arrived straight away. I have dinned at so many outlets but never experienced this effective and efficient service. The lady who served us was Pascha, who was friendly, caring, efficient and very welcoming. Wish all Pizza Express maintain the same level service. We had dough balls and pizza .

I loved this Pizza right in the heart of Cardiff… the dessert was really outstanding. The service, magnificent! I would certainly go back when in town…

The setting: We visited at 4pm in the afternoon when the restaurant was less than a quarter full. On arrival we were asked to wait while the staff member wandered off to talk to someone. When he returned he directed us to our table before handing us off to a different waiter. The new waiter was friendly, helpful and attentive until such time that he was pulled from our table to do multiple other task that included cleaning windows, unpacking stock, taking out rubbish etc, all while at least 5 other team members and numerous supervisors/managers stood/sat around doing nothing. This trend continued for the remainder of our time in the restaurant as the staff largely seemed more interested in chatting to someone that they all seemed to know who was sitting across from us. The bad points: - We were informed that a large number of the menu items were currently not available (there were too many items to list here). - Even when not ordering any of the above items we were later informed that the kitchen had also run out of the Garlic Prawns that I had ordered and that there was no mixed grains for my salad. - Lazy staff and managers that even with an almost empty restaurant were not attentive in any way. - Empty starter dishes that we moved to the edge of the table to show that they were finished were seen and ignored by 5 separate members of staff to the point that when our mains were served the waiter (not our original attentive one I must add) tried to place our mains actually on top of the empty dishes. He only realised this was not acceptable when my wife said 'don't you think that those plates need to be cleaned away'. - Although ordering a pizza we were not provided with a pizza knife and no one bothered to check how our food was. - After finishing our mains it took 20+ minutes for our plates to be cleaned away and even then we were not asked if we wanted desserts or the bill so we ended up just paying via the app and walking out. - The price of the food seems to be higher than other pizza expresses while the service level is worst than poor. - Supervisors and managers appearing to do absolutely nothing to ensure that their staff are servicing their customers. The only good point: - One single hard working waiter that was friendly and attentive before appearing to be forced to do everyone else's work while they just stood around. Should someone serving food to customers really be cleanin windows and taking rubbish (boxes etc) out of the restaurant? He is a credit to Pizza Express and should really look for a job somewhere that appreciates him. The summary: We ended up spending £75 pound for 2 people on food that was mediocre and all we ended up with is a bad taste in our mouths of Pizza Express restaurants. Advice: Avoid this overpriced poor service Pizza Express and head into the centre of Cardiff, the High street to their other restaurant that was far better than this the last time we visited it.

Couldn’t believe how long our meal took today. Not for the first time either. I wouldn’t have minded if I didn’t have my grandchildren with me. Shocking. The staff are lovely, but something needs sorting somewhere. This is why I stick to Quill+ quote( Thackerays)....

This is undoubtedly the worst restaurant in Cardiff Bay , the staff are unfriendly, service is poor , even when the restaurant is empty they are turning people away, everything is to much trouble for them , this is the second time this has happened...
