Zizzi - Cardiff in Cardiff

Bit of a barn being based in an old bank building , but the food, staff, and service are excellent. I particularly like their rustic pizzas and cannot eat a whole one so I generally cut it in half and take it home. Somewhat of an American tradition I found in the past year. I reckon for a fast food type place it's really jolly good. Better than most pizza places in Cardiff. Permanently closed. Being replaced by one of six by Nico.

Unfortunately no review..the air conditioning was so fierce it was like walking into an upright chiller..we left alongside another party.. completely messed our evening up as we had booked ❄️❄️❄️

Whilst I appreciated them freeing up a table on what was clearly a very busy evening...the whole barcode scanning, cannot ask a person about food choices, put us right off. Please keep it personal Alberto! We went to Pizza Express a couple of doors down. Exemplary service, a fraction of the price.

Den italienska restaurangen Zizzi ligger centalt i Cardiff. Restaurangen är ingen typisk Italiensk restaurang utan i en stor lokal som jag tycker är opersonlig eller i allafall ovanlig. Jag åt Spaghetti Bolognese och drack två glas vin därtill. Det var gott men framförallt billigt för Storbrittanien (28 Pund maj 2023). Servicen var okey.

Over priced and nothing special.

Was a quiet night so not much atmosphere, but would think it would be a lively place had it been busier. Food great, they make a good calamari, always the sign of a good restaurant. Portions very generous, bit too much for me, but rest of my party cleared their plates

We visited midweek in April 2023 and had booked a table online earlier that afternoon. When we arrived it was very quiet with less than a quarter of the table occupied. There didn't appear to be one reserved for us as the waiter allowed us to choose any table. Service was reasonable and our order arrived fairly quickly. We ordered a Rustica pizza each (a Sticky Pig and a Picante) with a soft drink each. The Sticky Pig was tasty but included cracking as one of its toppings. Some pieces were quite large but it was so hard that the crackling was inedible. I worried that I would crack a tooth so it had to be picked off the pizza and set aside. The Picante was tasty but a little wet. Towards the end of our meal the waiter asked if everything was okay so we mentioned the very hard crackling. He said "it's meant to be crispy" so we demonstrated that it wasn't "crispy" but rock hard. He just laughed and cleared the table: there was no apology at all. The bill came to almost £42, which isn't great value but on a par with other city centre restaurants. We would return but would choose more carefully next time!

Food and service were good. Atmosphere was marked down as there were too few people in the restaurant for there to be much atmosphere (middle of a Monday afternoon)

When you order a delivery you expect it to turn up. You don’t expect them to take your money, then when you call to find out where it is to find they are closed. You don’t expect to be told they delivered it to you when they didn’t.

Outstanding restaurant. The first time I ate at Zizzi, High Street, Cardiff in a long time. My visit was Monday 6th March 2023 at 3pm. The server was Marco. He helped with meal choice and ordering as one order from the free from Menu. Food was cooked fresh to order, generous toppings and spaced out. We will most definitely return.

Not the best customer facing staff, had to walk to the bar to get a table. When finally sat down in a relatively quiet restaurant (8 other people eating), we were presented menu's and started looking, when we were about to order, I presented the 'Taste' QR image and were informed that they won't accept it today, Sunday 26th March. I know full well you can't use it on Friday or Saturday, but valid at all other times. I asked why not today? Was informed it can't be used as there is an event going on, when I asked the male staff member what was going on, he replied "I don't know". I asked him to find out what was the event and why I can't use a Taste card in there. He wandered off, no interaction with any other staff and returned. " sorry we won't accept the Taste card. As I said before, there is an event going on" although he failed to say what event it was. If the restaurant sector is continually moaning about no shows, poor attendance etc etc, zizzi happily turned customers away from an establishment that was not even a quarter full. Why do you all moan? Suffice to say, off my list. Love to see Zizzi reply!

I've eaten here 3 times, twice with my mom. She loves eating here when she visits Wales because of the limoncello drink. I like the rustic pizzas and the vegan rainbow lasagne. Mom is a meat eater but also loves the vegan rainbow lasagne. The individual toilet cubicles with sinks are also nice with soap and handcream.

What a shame, a real shame, but Zizzi's seems to be a victim of the staffing crisis in hospitality. We arrived at three, ordered before 3.30, and had to leave having not had our mains over an hour later - despite asking for them at the same time as the starters. Apparently, they only had two chefs on, hence the delay, oh, and other tables too. Luckily, those two chefs managed to churn out pizza after pizza for those smart enough to order delivery. The manager comped us the starters (which was good of him) but really we were disappointed with an experience that should have been better than that. You choose a trusted chain like Zizzi's in the hope that there will be good standards of service and quality of food. In this case, the service was so poor we didn't get to taste the food. If you are going to prioritise collection/delivery orders, then just close for table service - or give the customers a head's up that you are going to be super slow. I've eaten at many a Zizzi's and never had anything close to this level of experience. I sincerely hope this is not indicative of a general decline.

Very bad service today and every meal was wrong at some level won’t ever use again even put £10 on my bill for a team tip lmao so bad

Me and my boyfriend stopped by to get something to eat but the service was so slow we had to just stick with drinks. I work in hospitality so am understanding when times are tough but this was honestly like waiting for hell to freeze over. The worst part is that they got the drink order completely wrong and gave an alcoholic drink to a non drinker! We weren't aware until after the bill came...Waitress gave some sass when we said we weren't staying for food which put us off coming back even more. This is such a shame as its where we had our first date but I highly doubt we will ever return!

Me and my friends came here for his birthday and we waited almost half an hour to be seated which is a joke!the food was terrible pizza was undercooked the drinks tasted flat they ignored my request for some ketchup and we waited more than 45 minutes for our food and the place was empty and it was very unhygienic the toilets were filthy looked like they’d never been cleaned i was very disappointed as the food on the menu looked lovely!I would highest unrecommended this place for food!!!

Starter was really nice, but after waiting half an hour for my lasagne, they brought half empty plate. They need to reconsider the way how they serve food and what plates to use. Looked to me like chef run out of ingredients.

The service was slow and very poor. Food went to wrong table so had to re cook. Walking past people waiting to be seated. Ran out of food at 6pm!! Was hoping for a quick meal . No 2 hrs !

My expectations were pretty low walking into this place as compared to the rest of Cardiff which was overflowing in places, it could generously be described as half-full. Food took over 40 minutes to be prepped which is laughable considering how simple the menu is. We were told by service staff that certain vouchers we had were valid only to be told by management upon paying that they weren't which caused an enormous scene. Any Manager with half a brain would have honoured what their staff had said but whoever was leading on 28/1/23 chose difficulty over a simple life. The food was average at best. I was roped in here for a family meal and was only reminded why I hadn't visited a Zizzi's in over 10 years. Cardiff has no shortage of great independent Italian restaurants; put your money towards them and let the incompetent, bland mediocrity of Zizzi's fade into obscurity and liquidation like so many of their ilk.

Couldn't believe how down hill this place has gone. An Italian restaurant with no lasagne at 6pm was unexceptabke The meal we choose instead was not freshly cooked and was nothing like described on the menu. Cold chips cold veg. And the chicken escalope "which it actually was" was tasteless . They didn't have the dessert we asked for which was a simple affogato in fact the best part of the whole experience was leaving. Will never visit this restaurant again Poor show guys

Was looking forward to meeting friends for new year catch up and chose Zizzi to eat. It was disappointing that although the staff knew a member of party had yet to arrive, they proceeded to serve our food which resulted in 3 of our party eating very slowly snd the 4th meal being placed under the grill. We were unable to eat our meal together. It would have been good customers service to wait for our party to be complete or to enquire when we wished the food to be prepared. Our cappuccino’s had to be replaced due to being cold. They were unable to accept our voucher even though they confirmed it was live due to their being ‘no button’ on the computer. We was dining at Zizzi St David’s centre, Cardiff.

Service was great. Got one of the meals incorrect. Other than that, an enjoyable experience.

Had a meal at ZIzi’s High Street last week. It was a terrible experience and I will not be going back. Service was awful. The girl serving was incredibly miserable and other staff ignored us. I had to physically go and find someone to ask for pepper and Parmesan for my pasta. By the time they brought this my food was cold. Took ages to even get drinks served. The starters were awful and food generally tasteless. When I complained to staff they smirked and walked away. I was so annoyed by this I asked to speak to the manager. She did apologise and gave us free drinks but by then the evening had been ruined. Don’t waist your money go somewhere else. I usually like ZIzi’s but this restaurant gives the chain a bad name.

Very disappointed with the whole experience. The venue was very cold but positively scorching when compared to the welcome and service from the staff! Main points of note: 1. Venue was freezing cold 2. Staff were unfriendly, no interaction apart from the business of ordering/paying. We asked if they could take a picture of us and were refused. 3. Food was mediocre (the side dish of the loaded fries with bolognaise and mozzarella was delicious and the garlic bread too) the pasta dish was bland and the sauce reminded us of a tin of mushroom soup with no seasoning. 4. We had to source our own cutlery from another table 5. No one offered us any condiments 6. No one asked if the food was ok 7. When we went to pay we were only then told it was a cashless venue 8. When taking our money she then offered to take our photo, too little too late. We will definitely not be returning.

Went there on Monday after having visited bute Park for the Christmas lights. It wasn't crowded at all. We were seen immediately and our orders were taken immediately. Had prawn linguine, which was delicious.

Really great service food was good

A shame our experience was so disappointing , as pre pandemic we had some nice meals here. I have never left a negative review, but I echo everything the previous reviewer said regarding atmosphere, food and service. I could list the things that went wrong but needless to say we wouldn’t be returning. When settling the bill we noticed we had been charged for two bottles of wine. We had only received one and this had been offered as a gesture of good will because of issues with the food order! I haven’t given one star, despite being tempted. The young staff were trying their best , just appeared inexperienced and lacking direction or coordination from more senior staff.

Ive been here before and had good service, but this wasn't the case last week. Service was terrible, we waited an hour and a half for our main couse and only half of what we ordered was available as they run out. It was a half empty restaraunt so not about staffing. Just ver poor organisation. Will be a long time before i go back here.

Very poor meal out with work. Very little Xmas atmosphere. Loud & echoing room. Very little Xmas decs. Staff were very good, polite & friendly but they looked badly organised & chaotic. Felt like we were in a school canteen. Pre ordered food before event & they didn’t have our choices! Food we had was bland, poor quality & my dessert was actually still frozen in centre. Will never visit again & I’ll warn my friends, family & colleagues

Food was really good to be fair! Only thing that let it down was the wait time for food

This is absolutely unbelievable. We were a group of 18and we came all at 7:40pm we did not get a single starter by 9 pm which was awfully. Despite of that the main didn't come by another half an houwer which was sub par at best. There was a table with around the same number of people next to us and despite their food came first they were here before us and they had to wait equally long. I do not recommend Zizzi. Especially for big groups. Maybe for sample number is ok.

This place sucked so bad! My wife, my daughter, and I ordered food at 5:30, it took 20 minutes to bring our first drink and an hour before they brought out second. The food took even longer: and was incorrect twice for the starter and once the the main. We couldn't even be bothered staying for dessert. This is so ridiculous for a Tuesday evening, especially as the offer wasn't even full. Normally, in 2 hours, we could have polished off 5 drinks but they just wouldn't/ couldn't bring them. It was unbelievable. Two other groups left early, and annoyed. There are so many good places to eat in Cardiff, you should definitely avoid this one.

We had a lovely evening, an amazing waitress welcomed us and managed the restaurant extremely well. The food came very quickly and was delicious and exceptional value.

Booked here as our favourite Italian in the area Bellini’s was shut. Have to say, disappointed. Took and age to be met at the door to be seated then quite some time before someone took our order. I had belly of pork which at £17 was quite frankly poor. One, less than 1 cm thick slither piece of pork with undercooked carrots (I like them al dente but these were bordering raw). Clearly been sat somewhere for a while as they were dry on top. It then took an age again to get deserts and more drinks having to ask 2 different people 4 times for the drinks. When they finally came, we got two lots. Finally, requested bill then 15 minutes from then till someone took payment. Communication here poor and customers in the restaurant itself seem to play second fiddle the the constant stream of deliveroo drivers. I think that is some of the problem as we’ve experienced elsewhere. Too much emphasis put on the delivery. When you consider the pandemic years and no customers, some places seem to have forgotten how to serve and be attentive to their guests. All in all, I would rate it average. 5/10 at best. Food was OK, but taking everything into account, I would not come back here anytime soon. I would emphasise this was St David’s Zizzi as there are 2 in Cardiff.

Great, student discount on unidays is good

Good and fast service but the one server was bad at juggling everything and never checked on me once and took ages for me to catch her eye. Then she went off to do other tasks when I asked for the cheque. Otherwise food was good. Nice portions. And tasty. Probably wouldn’t back purely due to service unfortunately.

Ate in the Cardiff Bay restaurant. Italian food. Nice location, staff were friendly and efficient. Ordered via the qr code (Table service is also available). Food came really quickly and was very tasty. Reasonable prices too. Went on a Friday night, worth booking as it got quite busy.

Visited on a week day evening, restaurant didn’t look very clean and there were crumbs on the chairs when we sat down. The whole restaurant and toilets are in serious need of refurbishment. No complaints about the food, this was served promptly and all meals...

Good experience on Sunday evening. Staff was friendly. We had one pizza with missing toppings but once announced by us, it was quickly corrected and without trouble. Vegan lasagna was ok, pizzas were better to our taste.

Second time we've been here in the last few weeks. The first time service was slow but they seemed short staffed for how busy the restaurant was. So this time when friends said they wanted to go we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Again service was slow, drink order was over 20 minutes. The servers didnt clear the plates before the mains arrived. Our mains the 2 kids meals and one adults arrived , then 10 minutes later another pizza arrived and then after that we were told the two other pizzas had been taken to the wrong table and so would be even longer. The server offered a round of drinks on the house but only got 2 people drinks. Two of our party took the kids to the fair and had to ask for the bill on the way out because the servers wouldn't make eye contact. When the bill came, the drinks had been added to it. The manager kindly removed the addition drinks and a couple more but for us it was too little too late. We won't return

Visited Zizzi’s as part of a big group of people. Pre-ordered food to help due to the size of our group. It took 40 minutes to get drinks to the table and we were not offered any refills throughout the duration of our meal/ time...

Excellent service, amazing food, great atmosphere

Lovely experience. We visited Thursday early evening so quiet but made to feel very much a part of the "family" by our absolutely delightful waitress. Food was fabulous. Fresh, tasty and served promptly. Pity we aren't local as would absolutely return.

Basic lasagne with no salad or garlic bread included. Plus side, service very good.

We had a lovely meal – the food was excellent and I had a giggle with my friends. But there was zero atmosphere. Hardly any customers, no music - just felt like an empty school canteen. The real issue was the staff. They could not have tried harder to get us to leave as soon as possible. Main courses were brought out while starters were still being eaten, plates cleared away while people were still eating. We felt really hurried. They brought me the wrong meal so had to wait for a replacement to be cooked (did get an apology glass of prosecco – nice touch). But this delayed things and when we tried to order dessert we were just told the kitchen was closed and then presented with the card machine to pay. Overall it just felt a bit depressing, and the staff quite clearly just wanted to go home. Maybe don’t accept late bookings (we sat down at 8.30pm) if staff aren’t willing to give them the time to enjoy their experience.

Went for lunch and very busy (due to concerts going on in the area). managed to get a table and ordered through the app. drink service was a little slow but seemed understaffed/very busy. Tried to use my student discount and wasn't able to due to the concerts going on, which was okay but could've saved some money! food was good and came fairly quickly considering the busy-ness

We ate on St Mary's street. Right by Cardiff Castle. Location - awesome. Staff-awesome, food-awesome. We ate dinner here, twice, lunch once and one day stopped for wine in the afternoon and sat outside. Nice variety of food!

We didn't book as we had just arrived in the area, the guy in charge of sitting people, managed to squeeze us in which was very kind of him. Food was mediocre, but the price wasn't to bad so weighed itself out. Service was again mediocre, until I got Charlottes attention, who then kindly looked after us fully. I want to again highlight that Charlotte did not stop the whole time we were there, she was very efficient without being told what to do or looking for praise for doing so. She wore her mask correctly, was very professional, she cleaned every table as soon as people left, and even managed to make her customers smile, she deserves this recognition. 4 stars as food wasn't the best

On arrival to zizzi Cardiff was greeted straightaway by the stuff I was shown to the table with a new speedy all the system means I can go onto my phone order my food and drink and get it quick Drink arrived in 2 min...

Where do I start! There wet 6 of us. Picked Zizzis as it was recommended! When we arrived at the restaurant it took the Manager a good while before she acknowledged our presence! We were sat at the back of the restaurant near the kitchen and some random chairs! Bizarre! The waiter took our order but the first thing we requested was not available! He took our order but had to come back and check it twice! The starters came out and were quite nice! No complaints there! How many staff does it take a clear a table? They cleared up when they couldn't fit the mains on the table! Mains were mixed! Linguine with no taste! Chicken milenese not the best! Sea bass dry! Chips were not the best! Manager completely oblivious to anything going on in the restaurant which did not fill us with confidence! Lost of staff walking round but not really doing much! I'm guessing there was a shift change! Manager on site very poor! Manager following on was left in a difficult situation which he dealt with very well! We won't visit again

Visited on Sunday evening to be told that they do not have any pasta! An Italian restaurant without any pasta, unreal. Needless to say we left but unfortunately we where directed to the nearest Zizi which was even worse.

Food was good but service was terrible. No communication, empty plates on tables for ages and unsatisfied people looking around everywhere. Such a shame for such a nice restaurant.

Used to love going here, untill they took away the fondo famiglia dipping cheese. If your a cheese lover and love dipping the bread in then you life has ended. Pizzas are ok but pizzas are pizzas . It’s the starters that count in this place. And that starter was the best.

Waited nearly 2hrs for food. Couldn't wait anymore with two young children. Asked to get the food packed up to go and they had not included a vegetarian pizzs for a vegetarian but a meat one, this place is very hit and miss.

Lovely staff, good pizza, clean restaurant in perfect spot

Horrendous experience from start to finish - of which the finish ended up being straight after drinks!Was asked on arrival of any allergies, advised gluten free but no GF menu provided. When asked was told none available and so given a 30+ page spreadsheet to 'cross reference' the menu. Informed the waiter that there is a specific GF menu online - was therefore advised to view the menu online!Wait staff clearly didn't want to be there, slow service, disinterested.We went to order a starter and told they'd run out, chose another only to be told they'd run out of that too. No prior warning that certain items were unavailable. At this point we decided to leave - we were still charged for our drinks, no offer of compensation.Whilst we were there the couple on the table next to us had to send their chicken pizza back as it arrived with no chicken on. This left the other person to eat their food alone, which was then finished by the time the pizza came back - if was evident that chicken had just been added to the original pizza and put back into the oven as it was then burnt.Would never go back to this restaurant.

Really poor service today I'm afraid. Firstly we were put in a dark corner where the light didn't work which was bad enough for my wife but almost impossible for myself who is partially sighted. There were many other tables available- surely this dark table should be used as a last resort. Then when our starters came there' was only one ish despite, upon ordering, my wife clearly stating "we will both have . . ." Perhaps the server should repeat the order to make sure he's got everything as many other places do. When our mains came the dirty plates from our starters were left on the table and we were not offered condiments. Instead we had to find our server to ask for them. The same had to happen when we wanted another drink only this time our server was nowhere to be seen so a different gentleman brought us our drinks. He also cleared our growing stack of dirty plates/glasses. Finally, when we came to pay the bill, our original server turned up with just the card machine - no offer of viewing the bill to make sure all was correct. Not your usual standards. I hope this was just a blip! Having said all that, the standard of the food was great.

We arrived on time for our booking and were quickly seated. The host was friendly enough. There were only 4 other tables occupied. We ordered from the kids and main menu. Unfortunately standard items weren’t available including bolognaise which meant limited options for the kids. Our waiter didn’t seem to be particularly au fait with the menu and we had to repeat things several times. The drinks order took ages to arrive despite the restaurant being half empty. It was t even particularly complicated as the kids were all drinking tap water. We were given another tables food and the staff didn’t seem to know which table was which. It was then taken away and given straight to the other table even though it had sat on our table. Given the current situation I’m not sure I’d have been happy to eat it. We were then given yet another tables food and had to review our order with the waiter again. When our order did arrive the kids only had half their starters - no vegetable crudités turned up and our mains were missing a kids pizza and an adults main pasta dish. Eventually this turned up clearly having been hastily cooked but the prawn pasta was clearly underdone with half raw prawns. A vegetarian pizza turned up with a piece of pepperoni on it. When pointed out the waiter just said “oh right”. No apology or recompense offered. My mother in law asked twice for salad dressing which never arrived. We were then tried to be given someone else’s carbonara. We then ordered ice cream for the kids but it took so long to arrive and we had to leave to get to an event we had to scrap desserts. Clearly the kitchen staff were not able to cope despite the restaurant being practically empty and the floor staff were poorly trained and disinterested. Incredibly disappointing all round.

Struggled to book a table for a Tuesday lunchtime. said no space online and noone answered the phone. Called a few hours later and was finally able to book. The person who answered the phone couldn't take bookings and I was passed over to a supervisor (why else would I be calling?) Arrived and we were the only table there. Must have been the servers first day as he was very nervous. No probs taking our drinks and then food order. But then a different server came over and asked if we had ordered starters. We said yes, he said ok and seemed very confused. finally asked us what we had ordered and we repeated our starter order. All was fine again up until the mains arrived. For a table of 4 only 3 meals arrived. We asked about the missing meal and were told it hadn't been put through the till. The chef cooked it very quickly which was great but it was slightly undercooked. They comped it off the bill. The server should have double checked our whole order when they were confused about the starters. The new member of staff should have been helped more and had someone oversee them taking the order. For being the only table in the restaurant, it wasn't really acceptable.

A good standard Italian Eatley place to eat in Cardiff .There is a choice of 3 out outlets .we visit whenever we visit our relatives in Cardiff and Newport Wales .

Absolutely fantastic food, very warm and welcoming host, efficient service, only little slight is they forgot to give us the complimentary pasta crisps but overall that didn't spoil our experience in the slightest

All staff members are extremely accommodating, and happy to help at all times. No random table visits when your mouth is full of pasta or pizza. Always get a great service here! The food is always amazing, nothing bad to say about Zizzi

Food was OK best part it caters for gluten free but actually not that much choice compared to other italians. Apparently no walk ins but the place was dead. Expensive for half a peroni just under £5. My seating was dirty and full of I think sugar. Not somewhere I would rush back to

Well done to all the staff at Zizzi’s for excellent food, great service and a meal served quickly and at a good price. We arrived into Cardiff later than planned so did not have much time before the Erasure concert but the staff were really helpful in getting us seated and our order taken very quicklySome pasta crisps and our drinks were soon served and The food came very shortly after. Everything we had was tasty, well presented and in good sized portions. The staff were friendly and seemed to enjoy their work. The Atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and we felt very at easePrices were reasonable

Me and my husband was visiting Cardiff we decided to have a meal before returning home, we made an excellent choice, from entering the restaurant to leaving everything was fantastic,

The food was good however..Was ignored at the door for quite a while Had to ask more than twice for complementary pasta crisps to be brought overA side didn't come and there wasn't a staff member available to ask - when asked they just took it off the bill (as they should as it never came) as we had finished our mains by thenDessert - orders were taken, server came back to say one was not available - that's fine. Ordered the same as my partner. One came with extras we didn't order, server was unable to answer why, and the extras were charged as extra on the bill, despite stating we never ordered them. That was taken off the bill.. Luckily I paid for my the meal using clubcard vouchers but wouldn't go back as the service was so poor. No compensation re. items taken off the bill etc. I would almost excuse these continuous mistakes if it was busy, however, we were the only ones left at the end of the night and things still went wrong.
