Zizzi Cardiff St David's in Cardiff

We'd come to the st David's, Cardiff branch after a really positive experience at the Bridgend one. Apart from one great waiter, the service was really poor. We were seated without children's menu's (5 kids). After a further 10 mins we had to ask for the kids menu, and then a further 10 minutes we had to get up and ask for the crayons, then another 5 for basic drinks. The restaurant was only half full. There was zero hospitality, no smile, no apology for the wait. The waitress served us with a still face and was visibly irritated. Her manager seemed the same, flustered and irritated at basic requests. Appreciating how much it costs these days to take your family out, this is entirely unacceptable. We'll not be visiting Zizzis again. We understand this is a management issue (who they recruit and/or the attitude notes of staff on the floor).

Pan Fried Salmon & Pesto Risotto £17.25. Not a good experience. First of all we were unable to use our Tesco vouchers as there was an event on nearby. We stayed and both had the salmon risotto at full price. However, the salmon was slightly overcooked, the risotto was not particularly creamy as it had been described on the menu. The portion sizes were small (I am not a large eater) and were hurriedly put together. My portion had a few pea shoots on it as garnish and my friends had too many. Needless to stay we did not stick around for dessert. We did mention to the waiter and were given a free drink each so we had coffee.

Nice food in Zizzi, I like this place considering it's a chain, they're all pretty good

Poor service. Food took over half an hour to wait, and that was only after enquiring as to where our order was. Food very average and lukewarm. Part of our order was missing, had to prompt staff. Most staff were standing around on their phones, totally uninterested in customers. Very confusing ordering system, could have walked out without paying and no one would have taken any interest. Will stick to other Italian chain restaurants in future.

Went in for a lunch time meal on a Sunday, had wonderful fresh pasta and good pizza, served by Matt who was an exceptional host and made us feel very welcome, would definitely come again

Food was lovely. Plenty of choice. Server was helpful with allergies and using the app. Had Tesco clubcard partners vouchers to spend. Told staff this when we arrived. Same member of staff took our order. Omitted to tell us that they couldn't be used for the set meal. Discussed this when the bill arrived. Too late then. Would not stop me from going again, but the bill (apart from drinks) would have been covered by the vouchers, so was not expecting to pay the additional £23 and now have part used vouchers to use by May.

Great food, great options for allergies, always the best dairy free deserts! The waiter was really nice, and chatty and very helpful.

Nice lasagna, had a tea with it but was pipping hot so could not drink with my meal so beware of that. Staff were standing right next to our table all throughout the meal talking and staring in our direction, felt very awkward and I comfortable trying to eat, please address this and move the staff station

BAH HUMBUG! After a hectic shopping trip today my partner and I decided to stop in for some lunch. Shown to our seats and the atmosphere was very subdued. The waitress who served us was very pleasant. The food was nice but not memorable. Upon entering we were informed that no vouchers were being accepted over the Christmas period and it also turns out that over the Christmas period that Blue light discount has been stopped too. How very Christmassy of you Zizzi at a time of the year when a little discount could help some people through. Even though your website states that you do accept blue light🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Been sat here for 35 minutes... no service, no water, not even a how do you do. Staff on phones constantly, it's not even busy here, absolutely diabolical.

Excellent service, fresh and delicious foods

What a disappointing visit from start to finish. Due to an event in the Arena opposite the restaurant Zizzi weren’t accepting affiliate vouchers or parent offers. There was no mention of this when I booked a table the day before. Also due to the event they had taken the Classic pizza off the menu - as the chef would have to make two types of pizza dough…they eventually obliged in making me a rustica pizza but served on a plate (I refuse to eat off a chopping board). The dish arrived and I had to send it back, it was so thin and crispy and was more akin to a poppadom with toppings - I told them they shouldn’t call it a pizza. The chef’s excuse was that the garlic oil made it crispy…it was inedible. I ordered the Zucca salad instead which was ok but not great. The manager was very nice about it all so I will give them credit for that. This has put me off Zizzi for a very long time. Everything about it used to be so much better.

Very friendly staff, couldnt do enough for us. Told us about allergens as we had an allergy. We were early for our booking and they accomodated us. Great food and service couldn't fault our visit.

Went to zizzi's while shopping as usual,but the service and food not the usual standard. I ordered the Casareccia Delle Casa which was very dry&only had 3 tiny bits of chicken in it? Partner had the Herb Rolled Pork Belly which again very dry&hard&greasy potatoes. The service was very slow,but its wasn't that busy to be honest! Staff seemed to be talking amongst themselves rather than attending its customers! We wouldn't rush back to be honest

Had some lovely lunches with hubby in this restaurant. I do love the garlic bread with balsamic glaze as a starter. Simple and yet delicious. The king prawn linguine has been my main course for several occasions. While hubby favourite is lasagne. Sometimes, simplicity is the best.

I enjoyed my lunch at Zizzi today although the menu appears to have changed. The Classic Pizza's appear to have gone and the prices for Rustica Pizza's seem to have gone up slightly. I ordered the Pinoli Pizza today with Red Chilli's. I was given Riquito Pepper's not Red Chilli's. This has happened before. Despite Red Chilli's being very cheap this branch of Zizzi don't serve them but they won't tell you that. They'll just serve you something else. Riquito Pepper's are not spicy. I asked the staff for Jalapeños and fair play I was given a plate of them. The Pinoli Pizza was very tasty. The staff were rushed off there feet but were very friendly.

Lovely restaurant and great service for all of us, had kids colouring on the table also. Kids menu was a good selection. The only downfall was the kids starters didn't come out till after the mains which was weird

My boyfriend and I visited Zizzi for our anniversary, and unfortunately, our experience was marred by disappointing service. Despite the promising menu, the waitstaff seemed disinterested, avoiding eye contact and taking a considerable amount of time to attend to us in our corner table. Ordering through the phone added to the impersonal touch, and when the food arrived, they neglected to inquire about our preferences, leaving our pastas cheese-less. Additionally, I tried to use my uni days discount, but the waiters refused, citing an event in Cardiff. I would have appreciated being informed about this beforehand - when being seated, as the chaotic experience left us feeling frustrated and disappointed. It's unfortunate that such a special occasion was overshadowed by this issue.

Amazing food and service, the gentleman who served us was very attentive and checked up on us to ensure we had a good time. I had the margarita pizza with harisa chicken which was delicious. Would recommend to anyone looking to have a great time!

The food here is great and the service from ordering to food coming out was pretty quick. Just a couple of little niggles, the food for a small child could have been a little better presented. The spaghetti Bolognese for a 3 year old came with very long spaghetti and the ice cream came with a large spoon where a smaller one would have been more appropriate. Other than this everything else was spot on.

Soul bread was hard and felt stale. Also, ravioli was a disappointment. The cheese was not fresh. Plus, the sauce was like ready from the tin or packed box. Nothing authentic. Total disappointment

Arrived on a busy early Saturday evening without a reservation. Table found for us. The waiting staff was polite and efficient. Only after a quick meal before going to a gig. Opted for the fiery chicken pizza. Which was very tasty

Booked a table here several days before the date we wanted and at the time stated that we wanted to use Tesco Clubcard vouchers and asked for them to let us know if this was not possible on the relevant date. Received confirmation of the booking by email but when we arrived at the restaurant there was a sign stating that Clubcard vouchers could not be used on that day. We queried this with the waitress and she said they could not be used and so we asked to speak to the manager. He spoke to us and could see on his system that on booking we had mentioned this but he said that they don’t have time to deal with any requests or comments on booking and he completely refused to accept the vouchers. We were very unhappy with this and so walked out and went to Pizza Express upstairs who were happy to accept the vouchers on that date so we were happy to take our business elsewhere.

Had a terrible meal . The worst Italian meal I ever had. Paid good money for a poor evening.

We were in the Capital for an evening watching Jimmy Carr. My fancied going to an Italian restaurant, so I booked a table on their website. Which was really easy to do. The restaurant was very crisp and clean, with plenty of seating. Pizzas are cooked in an authentic pizza oven. The bar had copies amounts of bottled wine. The staff were attentive during each course and regularly checked on everything to do with our visit. They were also friendly, welcoming, and professional. We even shared a laugh and smile. We both decided to have the 3 course set menu, which had a decent variety to choose from. For starters we both chose the King Prawn Spiedini. The prawns were succulent and cooked to perfection, the accompanying garlic sauce was delicious. For mains my wife chose the Spaghetti Chorizo Carbonara and I chose the Pan-fried Sea Bass. The Carbonara was rich, creamy, and plentiful. The bass was succulent, smoky, and had a lovely crispy skin with caramelisation. For dessert my wife had the Lemon Swirl Cheesecake and I had the Tiramisu. Both desserts were light, refreshing, and a perfect end to a perfect meal.

Arrived at 8:30pm. Restaurant not particularly busy, maybe half full. We stood in the doorway for a minute or two waiting to be shown to a table. I caught the eye of the young woman at the (empty) bar area, who quickly looked away and continued fiddling with some receipts. Another member of staff, taking an order at a table saw us, looked at the same young woman, expectantly, but she chose to ignore him too. At this point we decided to take our business elsewhere, Cardiff isn't exactly short of places to eat and I'd rather go to one where the staff actually care about the service they provide.

Wow what a great place to eat. The food was excellent and great value for money. But the icing on the cake was our waiter Matthew. From the moment we sat down we could not have asked for better service. What an asset he is to your Company. Thank you Barry and Caryl

We had to wait ages for our food (45 mins) without any heads up. When it eventually came out both meals were cold. The staff we very apologetic and took it back to heat them up. When they came back my partner’s pasta dish was pure stodge with no sauce/flavour. My pizza had just been badly made - cheese but no tomato sauce on one side, and tomato sauce but no cheese on the other. They agreed to refund my pizza. We then had to wait so long for the pudding (a slice of cheesecake - so no cooking required) that we gave up as by now we were so frustrated. The staff we dealt with were really lovely so kudos to them. This place needs more staff and better management.

Friendly staff and quick service. The calzone carne piccante was very nice. It was quite expensive though. Luckily I could use my Tesco Clubcard vouchers.

Came here with a friend as I had never tried Zizzi’s before! It was an overall good experience. The vibe was good and the food was also nice! I had the calzone and my friend had spaghetti bolognese. The dough of my calzone was amazing, it tasted like garlic bread but I wasn’t too fussed on the filling! It was quite bland considering. My friend seemed happy with her pasta too! We also had 2 mocktails which were really refreshing. I would recommend if you’re coming here as a group of 4+ that you book a table, especially on the weekend! Only because we saw some people get turned away. Lucky there was only 2 of us!

Great food and friendly staff, reasonably priced. My only fault is how long you have to wait at the door before someone will come and seat you.

Went here as our usual italian place was closed so googled a few and decided try this . Deffo not enough staff. Table app horrendous dont work so have to call to be served 2 people doing table service waa nice and trying there best ( to cope) but jst not working.miserable women behind the bar could have helped out instead of loitering looking miserable and watching .so orderd all my 3 course at same time .cheese garlic bread was awful sorry but worst i had literally no cheese could not taste it or see it jst like hard bread as example how bad it is ( dont laugh) i turned to my daufhterin law amd said whyvis it got branston pickle on tasted nothing like onion gsrlic bread more like branston dry awful chips worst i ever ever ate and i love all chips.tasteless dry .my mains waaaaay to hot to eat too much pasta compared to meatballs. Desert took way to long over 15 minutes for ice cream. Ceiling leaking going into a bucket couple leftvas waited to long to be served. Overall food worst i ate in long time desert nice took to long service too long .i have given 1 star for our waitress hannah who was polite efficent fast friendly and doing ten jobs will never return and i appreciate the italian way much more now .sorrt this is our personal expwrience

Came here tonight first time in a long time, greeted and sat to a table but that’s as far as the service went, resorted to ordering via QR code for mains to be over an hour later on a fairly quite Tuesday night. To top off the restaurant have decided they no longer accept taste card as they are one of the busier branches they don’t need too. Food was ok when it arrived.

It's our first time to eat here. Nice friendly atmosphere. Food was good.

We had a meal on 2nd Aug there between 4:30pm and 6pm. Really not impressed with the overall experience, especially the service. Not busy in there at all, 4/5 tables at the most the whole time we were there.. quiet enough for staff to be stood chatting. Food was average at best i.e cheese fondue was like packet white sauce, bland carbonara, prawn linguine and sea bass fillet. Chocolate brownie was a dry sponge, cheesecake was not set properly. During the 3 courses we were not checked on to even attempt to rectify any issues. We weren’t asked if we wanted any more drinks. Sat around waiting for the table to be cleared whilst staff stand around and chat. Hospitality is very up and down everywhere you go, not everyone is going to be satisfied. But when the restaurant was this quiet, there’s no excuse to miss the basics. This visit definitely was not worth the money.

A bit pricey and some of the food was very good, although beef ragu was tasteless and garlic bread covered in balsamic vinegar.

5/5 all round! We booked in advance and we were seated as soon as we arrived. The lady that took our order was very helpful and informative. Their mocktails were small but lovely. Starters and main courses were both fantastic! The service was fast - we weren't waiting around for long at all.

In 2023, you can't even get a pizza anymore. Zizzis is the worst place to get food on the street. You have to order online not with a person. I guess it's so Zizzi don't have any responsibility or something but it's just ridiculous you can't order with a person now. New menu means I can't eat any decent pizza. As a vegetarian with a nut allergy I can only get a boring margherita pizza. You can't edit the order online and the staff refuse to take your order in person especially if you have an allergy. All I need is for them to not add pine nuts to the pizza but they won't do that. I hate being told that I can eat pine nuts even with a nut allergy when I can't as literal doctors have told me. It's almost a near miss and reportable. It's a disgrace. How can they get it so wrong in 2023?! Has anyone at zizzis spoken to someone with an allergy just to see how it should be dealt with without embrassment or faff? It doesn't need to be this hard. Other restaurants understand and get it fine like nandos. What happened Zizzi? It used to be so good but it's genuinely the worst place to go in the street now. Main factor being that you can order with people in other restaurants and they don't discriminate against people with allergies. 0/5 stay away!!!

Food and drinks was not very good my classic pizza was awful in taste , the cold drinks were warm , the staff just looked miserable apart from one staff member so it made the atmosphere a bit quiet as the staff weren’t busy at all and there wasn’t much choice for people who don’t like certain foods and drinks and on menus they were falsely advertising things they don’t even have from the menu , the toilets were not very clean and not much water from the taps came out as well . In my opinion would not recommend and my family & I will not be coming here again

I went here today the food was absolutely lush and one of the waitresses me and my freind had was so lovely she was respectful and really helpful with what we should order not just that she was patient and just really kind definitely going to be eating there again!!

They refused to accept clubcard vouchers just because there’s a concert on nearby, which means they can take more money. Absolutely disgusting to make the rules up as they go along and let people down for pure greed! Nothing stated about this in their terms and conditions either. They’ve lost my custom. It’ll be reported to Tesco reward scheme also.

A comfortable restaurant in St David’s centre with air con - much needed in this warm weather. The allergy selector menu is very good and there is plenty of choice with those who have a gluten allergy. My gripe was having to use the Zizzi app to order anything. Why can’t staff take our orders these days? The food was excellent however as were the desserts. Have take a star off because of having to use the app and when paying online you HAVE to leave a tip. I am happy to leave a tip for good service but why should I leave a tip when it is self service and I am the one doing the ordering!

Love their rustic pizzas. Too big for me to finish, so I generally eat half and take half home. This is an update for the branch in St David's 2 as of 13th June 2023. Poor service because there were not enough staff serving, i.e.only 3. They were rushed off their feet and didn't have the time to give full attention to the guests in there. My drinks took some time to arrive. They also had to service deliveroo people, which further delayed the service I received. As a result, my pizza was cold and had a more soggy and chewy base than usual, and despite complaining, I decided not to take advantage of the offer to cook another pizza. as It was so obvious there was not going to be any difference because it had already hung around because of the lack of staff and ut hD git busier. Very disappointing. I'd recommend the one in High Street over this one or another place as you can't move for pizza places in Cardiff. Pizza Express is a good one I also use as well as the Frywnes pizza in the market, who also have a wood fired oven, but there're plenty of others nearby. I will probably give this place a miss. Maybe they had a bad day, but they gave me one, too. Shame really as businesses are claiming they are struggling and don't seem to make any effort nowadays.

What a rip off lunch pizza beer and glass of wine £29.35 this was with a £15.00 gift card I had lunch today when entering the restaurant the staff (2) where sat outside they open the door for me i was the only customer eating as this was the same about 7 weeks ago the member of staff gave me the menu I did not see any staff wash there hands at the start of service, I ordered a pizza Margarita with chilli's was told this would be extra a glass of Peroni G/R and a glass of Malbec than i was told they would be no extra charge for the chilli, the pizza came to look nice BUT THE BASE WAS NICE BUT I MUST SAY THIS WAS ONE OF THE WORST PIZZA TOPPING I HAVE EVER HAD LESS THAN 1 TABLE SPOON OF TOMATO VERY LITTLE CHEESE THIS CHEF NEED RE TRAINING THE WAITRES WAS NICE AND SHE DID ASK IF A WAS HAPPY THE BEER WAS GREAT THE Malbec was old had been open MY REWIEW FOR THE 2ND TIME IS KEEP AWAY

Dreadful. The food was ok with regards to taste, but £16 for a main was insulting as it was no bigger than a starter. Had vouchers, but they weren't valid as there was an event in town (Disney on ice). Not sure of the relevance as to why the vouchers didn't apply. Never step foot in there again

I came here for a birthday meal after previously been a lover of Zizzis. I had a free meal as it was my birthday so that was a bonus, however wish I had booked elsewhere. The service from staff was excellent from the time we went in until we left . The place still has a nice atmosphere and was busy for a Saturday afternoon. The food however was awful, my meatballs tasted like packet stuffing balls, nothing like the tasty meaty meatballs they use to make. Although the sauce and pasta was ok the whole dish seemed like it was frozen and then microwaved quickly. Although my meal was free I would have rather bought a supermarket chilled meal which would have been tastier . However I couldn’t complain as it was free but definitely will not be going back ever. When the bill arrived they were going to charge me for it but then took the discount offer off but only when I pointed it out.

The lasagne was dry, used to be 10/10. All else good.

I hadn't visited this branch of Zizzi for a while so didn't know what to expect. I have to say everything was excellent. There was a nice greeting when I arrived and I was seated promptly. My Peroni then arrived very quickly with some free lovely twirly crisps. I ordered a classic pizza and it was excellent. Very tasty. I used the toilets during my visit and I have to say they are the nicest smelling toilets ever! This attention to detail in this Zizzi is very impressive. I'm looking forward to returning soon.

Food was nice, toast on the bruschettas was burnt. Staff were quite rude and slow service too. Toilets were grim, I have no idea what was in the sink but felt cleaner NOT to wash my hands.

The food was great and delicious however the service was not perfect. It was slow and I had to leave without taking the dessert I ordered with my kid meal

Great service, easy to use 'at table' ordering, food arrived quickly and was great. I took a bit of a chance with the vegan lasagne as I am not a vegan myself, but it was lovely. I messed up our dessert order but the guy sorted it out for us with no quibble - considering it wasnt their fault he needn't have done. Love the at table ordering, saves having to find a staff member if you are in a hurry or feeling rushed if you're not. Would definitely come back next time we are in Cardiff

Overpriced quickly made food. More of a trendy place than quality or value for money. Told to leave after 90 minutes as they had others coming.... Normally wouldn't mind but they didn't tell us before hand. Whacked a service charge on but refused to pay it as only managed to order 2 drinks in the whole time we were there. Not my cup of tea

Food was good, but the waitress dropped food that splattered over my white top, jeans and coat and my girlfriends cream coat. The two girls next to us. They did give us a free drink. But it took ages to get any acknowledgement that anything was wrong despite food being all over us. I won't go here again

We weren't going to leave a review, just never go back, but on reflection decided to leave one so the staff could take note, and improve so not to alienate more new customers, and so the owners can see what's going on in the restaurants....

Nice restaurant, nice food. The fact we can order and pay online is a plus special on these busier times during christmas. With only 1 hour lunch break , Service and food was on time and still had 20 minutes left of my lunch break. Really happy with this place and will deffo visit more often on office days.

We attended yesterday for a works Christmas meal and it was perfect. There were 13 of us in total and all the food and drinks were delicious. The service was fantastic and the staff were really lovely. We will definitely be back. Thank you

Absolutely awful. Do not waste your time and money here. Had starters which were tasteless and cold. And then waited an hour and a half for our mains. The staff kept walking past, didn’t know a thing. We were still hungry after ordering our starters and mains so we decided to get deserts. Which can I say, the hot chocolate salted caramel brownie. Was harder than the iceberg that the titanic. Overall this meal effected our mental health and made us broke. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

3rd time we’ve visited this Zizzi and by far our best visit. We had a bad experience at another place in the chain so was reluctant but due to other places being busy and going to an event we opted to go here instead. Good was good as always and a big shout out to our waitress Cathy who looked after us. Although she was busy she had the time to come over and speak with us and offered excellent service throughout so a big thank you from us! N & J

Me and my friend wanted to go out and celebrate a nice meal, was ready to drop ££££££££ (and did that night, elsewhere). We are metalheads and they took one look at us and judged us. The restaurant was empty, I saw space on the table booking system but was told they could not have us. What nonsense. I was wearing a black normal dress with heels, my friend in a jacket with black jeans. Pretentious, arrogant and very rude. Spend your money elsewhere because the staff here are rude, judgemental and snobby. Not a place for everyone - only go here if you want to pretend you are better than others like the staff do. What a shame because this used to be nice but apparently now you can only get a table if you meet their arbitrary standards. Absolute disgrace. Head office needs to come in and sort them out.

One of the dirties restaurants I’ve been to. Food was served wrong. Asked a member of staff to close the door as it was freezing, but wouldn’t. Bad experience. Won’t be returning.

We should have left when we had to brush food off the seats to sit down. The place was filthy, sticky seats, sticky tables, piles of food/dust/sweets under the table/window ledge. Stairs dirty. Staff, when we actually got to speak to them, were nice enough...

Food was lovely. We requested a window table when booking and this is where we sat. A bit of a wait for our mains but it was freshly cooked and the restaurant was busy. Very family friendly and a nice atmosphere, with helpful staff. Not...

We stood for over 10 minutes waiting before anyone came to us. Then, despite the restaurant having lots of empty tables and me and my friend saw free space on the booking software but they told us there was no room. Could have told us that before we were made to stand like lemons waiting for ages when we are hungry and we can't think of any reason for them refusing us apart from the fact we are alternative in appearance and they were being snobs. Terrible customer service and will never darken Zizzis door again - we were ready to spend good money on a nice meal too. No company who is snobby will get a penny from me. Shame on you Zizzi.

Food was great. Your standard Zizzi. Hot and fresh Italian! However, service left a lot to be desired. Took a while to be served and an age the get the bill especially if paying with clubcard vouchers.

Lunch time. Really enjoyed the meal. Good menu.

Freezing cold, door open. Chicken was processed, breaded & fried. Brocoli was cold. Table was dirty & bench coverings need replacing. A lot of money for a very low quality meal in an uncomfortable room.
