One of my 'go to' places for years and we were very underwhelmed. It'susually packed (especially on a Saturday night) and has a great vibe but there was no atmosphere. The menu wasn't great and the food was bland overall. Waiting staff mixed up drinks orders (there were only 3 of us) and one of the main courses. We won't be rushing back.

Visited Grant's tonight for dinner. 4 Boston beef consisting of two 4oz fillet steaks, champ pepper sauce and house gravy, and tobacco onions cooked perfectly. A very flavoursome beef stroganoff and I had the goats cheese starter and it was amazing,a sensation of flavours in your mouth. Sides of salt and chips and ordinary chips ordered and veg and another chip were complimentary. We then couldn't resist dessert even though we were quite full up. The crème brulé was to die for, perfect topping breaking to shreds when you knocked it with the spoon and under a smooth, creamy vanilla custard, served with strawberry and blueberry and a portion of fresh cream. A cheese cake and a sundae went down very well too. Our friendly waiter Ryan made sure everyone was happy with their food, had a friendly chat and kept the drinks flowing, what more could you want. Thank you for a lovely evening

Myself and my wife went for lunch, yesterday the 7th July. We both had the fish supper meal and found it to be the best we ever had. So many restaurants, hotel's,cafe and carry outs tell you it's Cold,so many times we have been disappointed so we vote with our feet and don't go back are order something else This was diffently Cod at it's best. We sat in the front of the cafe beside bakery, the girl who served us was excellent,so nice to see someone who are pleasent and professional, also noted a young guy servicing and he was also excellent. No doubt next time in Newry we will return and will have no hesitation in recommending The Shelbourne. Keep up the good work. Chris & Jackie Bleary Portadown S

The Woodworkers: Where Beer is Religion and Bartenders Are Saints. After a truly abysmal run-in with another pub-that-shall-not-be-named, we wandered into The Woodworkers hoping for a pint and a palate cleanse — and ended up having one of the best beer experiences of our lives. The place oozes cool without trying too hard: laid-back vibes, an excellent selection, and bartenders who actually like people (a shocking concept, apparently). We were curious about the beer tasting flight — and even though the official “beer experience” didn’t start until 16:00, we showed up fashionably early at 14:00 like eager beer nerds with no sense of time. Enter the bartender — That young woman is an absolute legend. Not only did she not roll her eyes or throw us out for daring to exist before beer o’clock, she straight-up went above and beyond. She served us a glorious tasting board with eight different beers, explaining each one with genuine enthusiasm and that effortless Belfast charm. She gave us more than we paid for, both in quality and kindness. By the end, we felt like we’d just taken a mini craft beer masterclass — and had a few good laughs along the way. This place gets it. Great beer, good people, zero attitude. Whether you’re a beer geek or just here for a good time, The Woodworkers delivers. And if you’re lucky enough to be served by that bartender — give her a raise and a medal. Or at least a thank-you pint. 10/10 would get accidentally tipsy here again.

My daughter and I stopped off here on our way back to Belfast to catch the ferry. Caroline was lovely, so welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious. I had salmon, mash and veg. My daughter had the chicken, which she said was tasty. Highly recommended

Decided to treat my 2 teenage grandchildren yesterday and got a shock when I paid the bill and discovered that I was charged £4.55 for a 330 ml coke and same for a fanta. Total of £9.10. When I disputed the price I was told by the gentleman at the bar that they were big ones. No one gave me the option for a small or large drink and I was left standing feeling inadequate and as though this is the norm. Speaking to several other parents they felt like myself that it was a rip off. Asked for an alternative for mushy peas with my fish and had to take vegetables as a side which left me having to pay an extra £3.95 for chips.I won't be back.
