Flagstaff Lodge Bistro in Newry and Mourne

Staying in the Newry area and decided to have a meal here. Staff were lovely, food excellent. The restaurant itself is comfortable, lovely. There is also a nice terrace overlooking some of the countryside, unfortunately the weather wasn't conducive to sitting outdoors. Lovely restaurant, lovely staff.

Very nice bar at the Flagstaff. Waiter was very nice. Good 2 course meal. Steak well cooked and trifle delicious. Nice for a coffee afterwards too. Good location. Decent price. Nice place to eat.

There was a group of 15 of us and the food was very tasty in general . We had booked a set menu however a few in our party did not want the main courses offered so asked quietly if they could change the dish to a simple fish and chip or curry, the girl had to ask manageress who came to the table and was rather rude about the whole situation she made us feel very uncomfortable she did change the dish for us reluctantly but every time she came near the table it was tense. The other issue we had was the bar staff were too attentive I.e. they were trying to lift glasses etc before we were finished (just too much). We all did enjoy our food however some of us would be hesitant to return.

Absolutely fantastic. Not a single thing to possibly complain about. Given that food in restaurants lately seems to be decidedly average, the Flagstaff sets itself apart. It is absolutely amazing. The quality of the food, the portions and the service is top class. The location is great if you're in Newry/Carlingford/Omeath or the surrounding areas. The ambience is also great. Would highly recommend. The dinner was so good we had to go for desert which was equally as impressive.

We dined here this Sunday as we do visit this establishment regularly and as usual, it's 1000% best food and service available. The staff, layout, service and food are always the best. I absolutely love this place. Even better for those who love their grub.

Had a very rude waitress tonight. A dark haired lady at the door who I asked one of the others her name. Mary was very unpolite.the food was gorgeous credit to the chefs and drinks were very fast. I would have give 4:5 stars only for the woman Mary who “greeted”‘us at door. She did not smile once

Went there for some lunch last Saturday with some family members and its was great. All the staff were so friendly and attentive especially ? Kayla (young lady with long platted hair) COVID rules were in place which was reassuring. The menu was varied with lots of choices for all. Service was swift even though they had a wedding taking place. The homemade chips were amazing - they should ditch the fries. The lasagne was the only let down - a bit dry and didi not appear layered was served more like a cottage pie with pasta on top - We did mention it the the waitress and without question this was taken off of bill which was not the purpose of saying it but a very nice gesture. All in all a really good experience and will definitely be back. Many thanks

Amazing service once again, we ordered the spicy chicken wings with a blue cheese sauce for starters, then had chicken stir fry and beef stir fry omg so much on our plates and lots of meat had to leave room for dessert which was pavlova, all the food we ordered was so tasty and presented so well. This is a great place to stay. From the moment you arrive until you leave the staff are second to none. Very comfortable rooms & breakfast is cooked to order & tasty. Had dinner in the bar & that was really good too. Very accessible to town centre for shopping. Louise on the reception desk is so helpful. We will be back next year for a wedding & I am delighted to be staying here again. Thanks

We booked a room here for the night, and so glad we did as our birthday meal was booked here too, firstly the room was a wow factor, very clean, very spacious and the bed was very big too, we then went down that evening and had a wonderful meal, the menu had lots to choose from, 3 of us had steak which was amazing the staff was so busy but were very good and made sure we were all OK

Nous nous sommes arrêtés lors de notre Road Trip Irlandais avec nos amis pour manger le midi . Le service est impeccable le personnel est souriant , nous avons choisis des tagliatelles aux fruits de mer et poissons , et des darnes de saumon grillées avec légumes . La cuisine est généreuse et vraiment d'un très bon niveau , faite avec des produits frais ,le tout accompagné par une bière local .... juste top. Si vous passez dans la région arrêtez vous !

Well we waited 40mins for a table, but didn't mind as our food was amazing, plenty of it, I had a lovely spicy beef stir fry with noodles n rice n chips omg very tasty, the service was first class too. Will be back again

We stopped in here for a quick bite to eat after a long weekend. The staff were very accommodating and in fact told us they had only started serving and there was a lot of people in so it might be a bit of a wait for the food. The order was in fact out quite quick and the food was brilliant. The staff were very attentive and friendly too.

If you are in the area you must try Flagstaff lodge bistro, the food is excellent and very big portions. Try the steak sandwich and homemade deserts

My wife and I visited recently and we were both very pleased with the standard of the meal and the service - both of which were excellent and served in a beautiful dining area.

Went to the Flagstaff lodge for tea with a friend who was visiting from England. Haven't been for a while but have always had great food and service. This outing was no different. The food was to die for and served beautifully and portion sizes were very good for the price. Our waitress was fantastic and made sure we were well looked after without being too "In your face". A fantastic member of the team. Planning another visit this week with another friend I enjoyed it that much. Well done everyone in the team.

Having visited the flagstaff on a visit to see a friend I wasn’t disappointed I’m a manager in a restaurant so service is key and I can’t say a bad word the two ladies that looked after us but in particular the young girl was wonderful she was smiling and helpful without being overbearing the food was also lovely will definitely return in my next visit my only thing was that the tips are split I would have rather it have gone to the young girl who really was excellent I may try and poach her to Yorkshire !

Restaurant was busy with two waitresses. Food was fine, if not as good as previous visits, e.g. chicken dish was supposed to come with bacon but didn't, asparagus overcooked (not in season) and potato undercooked. However service was not good, e.g. we were not offered water or asked if we wanted a second drink, one serviette was given to our table for two, no one asked if our meal was okay and my dessert was not as described on the menu. The waitresses didn't seem to care about the customers and we weren't the only table affected.

Its like an annual event we were 32 years married on Friday and booked the flagstaff lodge for dinner .we wernt disappointed absoulty fab both food and service .

We recently moved to the area and decided to give the Flagstaff Lodge a go and since then it has become our firm favourite. The burger is delicious and served with peppercorn sauce. The roast beef is also a favourite of ours and is always great. Portion sizes are very generous (I have to stop myself from ordering the pulled pork spring rolls as a starter because I can never finish my main when I do) and the service is friendly and professional. We have always had a first class experience. Well done!

Huge room, very comfortable, with WiFi, flat screen TV. Fantastic dinner menu a bar full of customers. Breakfast individually made for each guest. Room rate was very good too

Had a family birthday meal in the last few days. Two of my party had a vegetarian option, something which they seldom have. Very positive reaction. Service a little slow but very courteous when food was served.

Hands that do dishes, that are as soft as your face... Mild green, fairy liquid! Nb... Best burgers evaaaaaaarrrrr

Love the golf club food. Lots of variety and if ur vegeratarian there are a few meals to select from. Some of the staff cpuld be more friendlier though. Would recommend

Thought we would enjoy a nice Sunday dinner but should of known from the ignorant older staff that this was not going to be the case. There are probably as many staff as there are tables to be served so in reality you would think you would be served in an attentive manner but no the height of ignorance. 40 minutes for a roast beef dinner that has been cooked since 7am and a fish pasta dish. The roast was so bland tasted like something out of a nursing home. Bar staff are rude and Ill fitting uniforms on all the staff surely take a little pride in your appearance?!

Booked last minute for weekend .staff all really friendly .beautiful hotel and rooms very spacious. Breakfast was great .

I must say what a hidden gem the food and staff are excellent we stayed for three nights Gary the owner is a gentleman.we will be back in the near future

We stopped off at the Flagstaff recently, on a local's recommendation and it did not disappoint. The menu was varied, the food was hot and tasty, the portions were generous and the price was reasonable. The waiting staff were all very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this to others.

Went for a pre wedding date night to the golf. It's definitely more a family based restaurant. Brilliant menu for all! Large portions and food was of a high standard. Would love to go back to try out the Sunday carvery!

Reasonable range of food on offer, decent kids menu, food was fine. Only ate here because we were staying in the hotel.

Were away in Dublin all day and hungry, couldn't think of where to go on way back up road and decided to try this place as I'd heard good reports. All very comfortable surroundings and atmosphere with a reasonable selection on the menu. Quite a few people in eating or coming in to eat suprisingly so mid-week. Seem to serve all-day which is a great thing rather than not serving until 630 onward as some places do.

Extremely nice welcome in arrival. Got a room with view overlooking fields and hills. Rooms have been recently renovated. Contemporary, elegant, spacious, spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable beds, great shower. Bar staff great too. In fact all staff excellent., welcoming and friendly . The food was also excellent ..the steak was outstanding and I really wanted the recipe of the sauce mushrooms were in . Breakfast also great ..

A comida é boa - O bacalhau é bom. O restaurante tem um ar pitoresco. O tempo de atendimento deixa a desejar - não acompanha a qualidade dos pratos. 15 minutos para servir uma cerveja (a meio de uma refeição) e mais 15 minutos para servir 3 cafés... É muito.

Was at the flagstaff lodge on Thursday night & the food was beautiful as always.Had relative's home from America who love fish & chips & they said it was the best fish they had here.lovely starters & desert.highly recommend.

The staff was super friendly, food was awesome. The fish is different than Newfoundland fish but good. The fries are chunky and the soups are pureed a little different than what we are use to.

Faboulous food and service was excellent . Great entertainment on the night with a band called friends.

Have ate here quite a few times now and never fails, food is always delicious and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Myself and 5 others members of my family choose the Flagstaff Lodge because of the choice of food on the menu. My mum is coeliac and only eats gluten free food and the Selection was fantastic. This venue was also central for others in my family to meet. Being first to arrive,there was another very large crowd in for lunch and the lady on the reception was very friendly and sorted a table in a quiet corner for when the others arrived. The service was exceptional and the attention was excellent throughout. We were not forced to leave and we sat for over 2 hours having time as a family. We could not fault the lovely busy hotel on any points

Ordered chicken curry and was very salty, I couldn't eat it and when I asked for another one to be made without salt, I was told that was the way it came and it was their best selling dish! I was disappointed and won't be back in a hurry.

Recently refurbished to a very nice standard, staffed by really friendly people, serving good quality food at reasonable prices, good choice of beers and ales and with a stunning view across the hills and countryside.

Stopped by today with a few friends for Sunday lunch, place was packed with a great atmosphere and quality food loved it had the roast beef on the carvery with all the trimming mates went with the chicken wife took the salmon all very happy. Not easy to get parked and we were lucky as they ran out off beef around 4 lots of happy well fed costumers will certainly be back

We go to the Flagstaff Lodge on a regular basis, because it simply is unbeatable,, from Sunday Carvery to Lunchtime meals, the food is terrific and you never have a bad meal here, Amazing chefs and helpful staff. Not to be missed.

I was with my work colleagues for my leaving do in December in the bar the food was first class the staff especially a young lad called Ryan c he was most helpful I have been here quite a few times and everytime Ryan c makes a big effort to assist us

Had a steak sandwich and it was top notch. High end bar food at the restaurant with portions for the hungry customer

Everything was excellent especially dinner and service. The management were always on hand to ensure guests were enjoying the whole experience

Had wedding in Flagstaff lodge last week from the start the magament and staff were on there toes hats off to them everything went brilliant the food was top class with the staff coming back to see if anyone wanted 2nds great day out.

Staff are very friendly, the whole area is very clean and sharp looking , food is excellent, you won't be disappointed. The restaurant is very Spacious and seems to be a good turn over of people , so food is very fresh.

I ahve visited this restaurant for both social and business events. It is one of the most polpular restaurants among locals; so much so, that many people from far afield was now view it as their local.

Visited with family members, whilst it was extremely busy we didn't have to wait very long to be served.. Nicest Sunday lunch that I have had in years... Would definitely recommend...

Just wanted to thank and highlight that during our recent 5 night stay here, Gary and Caroline really exceeded the level of hospitality to us whilst there. We travel a lot and live in London, so we've become what we thought was acustomed to a high level of service! WRONG, these guys just illustrated how poor everywhere else treats Joe Public!.

I am, sorry I was a regular in restaurant and bar for food for the last number of years,

We went two weeks ago for a nice meal as we had herd that it was a great place . We booked a table for 8 pm , at 8 50pm none had yet to come and with our meal . i approached a waitress and asked would it be ready . We were told a few minutes . 10 minutes later i approached another waitress who said it would be out soon . When i clarified that i was very unhappy she replied well it will be . Further discussion brought "the comment its comming are you staying or going ". i Complained to her about how she treated us and to the Owner behind the bar who rang me and offered a voucher in the post . I am still waiting !!!!!!! I wont be back

Had a nice meal here this evening.Food was good and staff friendly and attentive.Chicken goujons would be better if they included a dip.Christmas decorations are awesome.Only problem was lack of heating,i was cold throught the meal.However we will return in the future but will wait until weather is warmer!

By far the best restaurant in Newry always 1st class food and service. The golf club burger is the best I've ever had.

We went out for a family meal and the staff was really nice and the food came out quickly but we were very disappointed in the food ! Simply BLAND! We had pan fried chicken, a burger and roast beef . And soup for starters ! The soup was not nice at all . The burger was your ordinary run of the mill burger ! And the pan fried chicken was basically bland meat with some really strong tasting mushroom sauce on top ! Overall , the food was a HUGE let down . I would never come back . Maybe just for drinks . Oh, the fries were tasty :)

We had our dog and realised literally nowhere in newry is dog friendly so we ate in courtyard (basically a smoking area but luckily nobody was smoking there). They wee quite happy to accommodate this. Huge portions even for lunch specials £9. Downsides = lamb slightly overdone, champ was simply mash, garlic potatoes were not flavoury enough.

Newry is just over the border from the Republic in Northern Ireland, and this place is right off the motorway so an easy exit. Lots of free parking as well. We were there at the start of a Saturday lunch: the food was freshly prepared, served at table hot, and multiple TVs had various matches on. They were very attentive to my wife's coeliac needs in pointing out and adapting the food to be gluten-free. It was obviously a popular spot with the locals and families. We had a small problem upon leaving with lager louts in the car park who were trying to drag race on the exceedingly steep parking area, but otherwise enjoyed our stop on the road to Belfast.

Fabulous Sunday carvery with great service! Really nice atmosphere and a great place to have a drink. Beautiful new rooms to stay overnight in a great location for access to Dublin or Belfast. Would highly recommend!
