A fantastic little cafe. We were looking for a nice breakfast before our flight home and Harlem didn’t disappoint. Though extremely busy all of the team were polite and helpful. Be prepared to wait for a table as people queue up the street to eat here. We had the Belfast bap and also a French toast to share as we couldn’t pass this one up after seeing it delivered to another table while we waited. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection even though it was extremely busy. Very impressed!!!! The lady who I believe was the manager/owner seemed to really love her job!!! Working in hospitality myself it was a pleasure to see as in this current climates it’s a tough gig! Would definitely recommend and return!!!!!!

Visited today, had to wait a while for a table but it was definitely worth it! Lovely upbeat, warm and friendly staff. I'm coeliac so always tricky eating out. Was reassured before ordering. I had fabulous fresh fish & chips, mushy peas and lovely tartare sauce. Partner had steak sandwich. Big silver pot of tea. So reasonably priced. Thank you.

Large, delicious portions. Well-equipped women's restroom! Very, very friendly! Fresh juices and delicious teas. We didn't have to wait long here either. And the Irish breakfast was very good! ☺️ And I thought the music fit the whole package perfectly!

We checked out of our hotel and found this recommendation. We were a minute away so ventured along . We waited a short time but the place was super busy on a weekday morning which we took as a great sign . Atmosphere was gorgeous , staff were excellent and the Irish breakfasts and coffee were exceptional . Everything was piping hot and super tasty . Service was a masterclass - delightfully genuine hospitality!! Can’t wait to return

We decided against breakfast in the hotel and ventured out to this iconic venue - a marvellous eatery, with a buzz, great service, great food, and great coffee. We had a range of food but my favourite was the avocado on toast - outstanding! Ditch the hotel breakfast next time, and dander to Harlem Cafe!

Great food in a lovely place. We went for Sunday breakfast. It was really delicious. There was a queue outside, which we had to join, even though we had made a reservation. Sadly, that's the price of being a good eaterie. It's not overly expensive and the service is very attentive. There's no pressure to leave quickly, the breakfast menu covers anything you might like and the portion size means you don't go hungry. A popular place, and deservedly so.

Had brunch today with our book club. We had a table booked and were at the front of the line, about to be seated, when a few more members of our group arrived. When they came to join us, a front staff member rudely told them there was no room. I clarified that we had a booking (we were getting seated as this happened). This created an unpleasant atmosphere. That said, the food was lovely, and the female staff members were a delight. The place was very busy, and the organisation of customers waiting for tables could be improved, as it created us and staff unnecessary stress and a negative experience.

Do not expect to be seated just because you have a reservation. We were booked in for 11:00, as it seemed were several other parties, but there were no tables available for any of us. We were all expected to wait by the door, whilst also rudely being told we were all in the servers' way. Half our party then had to wait outside. On several occasions we were lied to and told it would be "2 more minutes, we are cleaning a table now" whilst we could see that all tables were still full and none were being cleaned. It wasn't until 11:30 we were finally offered a table, and we were not served food until 12:00 (an hour after our initial booking). Upon receiving the bill, we asked for the 10% service charge to be removed given the wait, and when we went to pay the owner/manager asked "what was wrong with the service then?", and we replied "Well we weren't served food until an hour after our booking", and she simply quipped "oh well sorry, we're just so popular". Customers here are treated as an inconvenience, particularly if they have a booking, and the staff are very passive aggressive. Why accept bookings if you aren't going to seat them?

My friends and I had made a booking for 11am. Having arrived at 10.50am, we were only seated at 11.30am. Upon arrival, the entry was incredibly packed and we were chastised for “being in the way”, so half of our party had to wait outside. There was little acknowledgement of this fact and every ten minutes we were told “two more minutes”. After finally being seated, it then took another twenty five minutes to be served. Once our order was taken and the food delivered, we were not checked on once. The food itself was really good, but the atmosphere was certainly frosty. This is the second time we’ve experienced this issue with Harlem, and have flagged this issue previously and been told that it is because they are so popular and basically there is nothing they can do. Again, we were asked what our issue with the service was today and when we explained, they told us “it happens when we’re so busy”. Whilst the food is amazing, there are much better options when it comes to service.

The food is absolutely lovely, although perhaps a tad expensive. However we waited just over half an hour to be seated for a table we had booked, and were simply told to wait and we’re busy during this time. There was no apology or updates to the massive crowd of people who also had reservations, instead we were rudely told to move by staff who were trying to serve coffees to those already sat. When we eventually sat down the food came out relatively quickly, but this was still over an hour after our initial reservation. The food and drinks were lovely but we were then very surprised to have a 10% service change added to our bill, despite the over half an hour wait for our booked table. Of course we asked for this to be removed and we would tip what we thought was acceptable given the weight. This is the second time my group of friends have tried Harlem, and both times resulted in a very long wait for a pre-booked table so I definitely would not recommend this place at peak times (weekends).

I loved this place, the ambience, pleasant staff and food quantity was worth the price 😁. I had their Luxurious Hot Chocolate which was creamy and chocolatey. Was thrilled to see the milk jug which came with my tea- milk poured straight from the Moo-Jug😅 I tried their Belfast Bap, the quantity was big , I couldn’t finish it all but was tasty . The onion and raisin sauce they used in it was flavourful . My boyfriend had their Bacon and cheese omelette served with sourdough bread. Felt it would be great to have some sauce or gravy to soak the dry side of the omelette which was otherwise great. Definitely going there again to try other dishes when I am in Belfast next.

FYI Top Tip if not been here before - if you go harlem for the first time, as a walk in and on your own, just stand by the please wait to be seated signed. Don't get confused when no one approachs you to ask if have a reservation or not and how many for the table, don't get confused if they call other people in the queue to table before you when they haven't spoken too you or them either. Don't ask questions or say sorry I was next in queue. Mostly, certainly don't try and explain when you are finally approached by the manager, that the waitress was quite abrupt when you said you were next in queue and you were just confused by the queuing process! If you do dare speak to the manager and waitress expect lots shoulder shrugging, oh well, I am one the nicest people in here, patronising explanation of the queuing system, and not my section anyway, we assumed you were with the other people. Oh and when you have been made to feel very uncomfortable and decide to get up leave and not eat there, expect the manager to do more shoulder shrugging and the waitress too say as you are leaving "if don't like it just leave and don't bring the atmosphere down" Good communication and just general friendless dont cost nothing

Could not recommend Harlem highly enough. I was snow bound for an extra day in Belfast on my own and noticed a little queue outside Harlem and thought I'd join it. What a great decision. Lots of people had bookings but the friendly barista assured us we would get a table. Probably only waited 20 mins or so (coming up to midday on a Sunday) such a lovely atmosphere with terrific artwork everywhere not in the least bit. When I said I was on my own a lovely, super friendly woman told me a table for one would soon be available and what a table it was. I went for fried breakfast, delicious and well priced. Plenty of people were there for boozy brunch but there were lots of families too. Tea served in vintage silver pots. Really good value and so welcoming. As a final note the ladies' loo with fresh flowers, real candle and vintage armchairs was a super cheap, cosy space that would rival any luxury venue. Next time I'm in Belfast I'll definitely book. Wasn't too try the amazing looking Belfast Bap. Thanks Harlem for giving a solo traveller a fantastic breakfast and warmly memorable experience. Harlem is next to the Ulster Hall and the new Rory Gallagher statue. You won't be disappointed.

Quirky and not to everyone's taste, but I like it. If you order a full fry, you can tell that the meat ingredients come from a butcher rather than a wholesaler and that other parts are made on site. I can't stand baked beans, so when I said no beans they automatically piled on the mushrooms without having to be asked. How many places still serve tea in silver teapots? The cow shaped milk jugs are a really fun touch too. It's a mix of so many styles, but somehow they manage to make them gel brilliantly.

Ah, Harlem Café in Belfast – like a 1950s diner, but with fewer poodle skirts and more craft coffee. The food? Decent enough to convince you that life’s not entirely pointless, and the staff? As cheery as a squirrel on a caffeine binge. The décor’s charmingly retro, like someone’s gran’s living room, only with less knitting. It’s the kind of place where you’re not sure if you’ve stepped into the past, or just into a quirky dream where the toast is always perfect. A delight, if you enjoy a bit of organised chaos with your eggs.

The food was lovely however the service was genuinely awful. This cafe was recommended on google so we tried it. Upon entering we were barely greeted and a staff member then just waved us on without as much as a hello. He walked way ahead and set cutlery on the table and walked away again before we even got to the table - without speaking a word or so much as a hello to us. The staff taking our orders were decent however it then took 20 25 minutes just for us to get our coffees while a bigger group who just came in got their coffees a few minutes later and again once the staff came over with them they barely spoke, and again when they served our food. They snatched our empty plates without speaking again, and not once did any member ask if the food was nice/ anything wrong. As servers ourselves, we were genuinely so disappointed and disgusted with the service. Staff was not attentive at all, rude and dismissive, we felt quite ignored and unwelcomed the entire time we were there. Such a shame because the food was nice but the service was so terrible we will never be returning - A simple greeting or smile couldve easily changed this review.

I had the full Irish breakfast and my friend had scrambled eggs & mushrooms on toast. We could not find one fault or piece of developmental feedback. It was absolutely delicious. Every inch of the place was spotless. The owner moves around the restaurant with a great aplomb and her customer service skills are top notch. Some friends had been to this place on Friday morning when it was relatively quiet. They suggested we go again on Saturday as they had liked it so much but agreed we would not wait if there was a queue. So we were very pleasantly surprised when we went in shortly after 10 on a Saturday to find that there was no queue for tables at all. The five of us were seated quickly at a quirky glass topped table, underneath which was a display of shells and starfish - very quirky. The restaurant quickly got very busy and by the time we left there was a huge queue. The staff appeared very busy but were always apologetic and we were not in a hurry. We started with cocktails - bloody Marys for some, a bucks fizz for me. I had poached eggs on sourdough and asked for a sausage too - when it arrived it was about 4 times the size I was expecting. But was very tasty, as were the poached eggs which were poached to perfection. We also had teas and coffees and more drinks during the meal. All of us were very happy with our food choices, but the portions were huge. We had a great time here and will definitely come back next time we are in Belfast. I have seen some reviews mentioning loud music, this was not an issue during our visit. The staff were amazing and friendly and the whole ambience was lovely.

I rarely leave reviews, but the appalling treatment my group and I received at Harlem has left me no choice. We booked a table for 8 people in advance for 11:00 AM, which I thought would guarantee a smooth and welcoming experience, especially given how important it is for restaurants to manage bookings with professionalism and courtesy. Unfortunately, nothing could have prepared us for the disgraceful level of service we encountered. Upon arrival, we were met with an unbelievably long queue—something I could somewhat understand for walk-ins, but as we had a booking, we expected to be seated without delay. After standing outside in the freezing cold for over 30 minutes, we were finally forced to ask twice about our reservation. After 35 minutes of waiting outside in a queue that had not moved, we were still not seated—had my sister not gone inside and insisted we be seated, I suspect we still wouldn’t have had a table. When we were finally seated, we were met by an owner who clearly had no understanding of hospitality. The hostility and lack of professionalism she displayed were nothing short of shocking. We were treated as though we were a nuisance, despite having a booking for 8 people, and were about to bring in a considerable amount of business for the restaurant. The owner's tone was dismissive, and rather than apologise for the delay, she made excuses, offering nothing but condescension. To make matters worse, after we had been seated and were in the process of ordering, the same owner had the audacity to ask us to leave—after we had waited in the cold for over half an hour! I cannot begin to fathom how a business can operate with such blatant disregard for customers. This, alongside several other customers complaining about long wait times despite having made reservations, highlighted an overall systemic issue in managing bookings. As a 20-week pregnant woman, standing for such an extended period in the cold was not only physically uncomfortable but downright unreasonable. I booked a table precisely to avoid such a situation, and no customer should ever have to go through what we did. As someone who also owns businesses in hospitality and retail, I can confidently say that if there was ever an issue in my establishment, I would immediately apologise, keep my customers informed, and ensure they were treated with respect. Clearly, that is a concept lost on the owner of Harlem. My recommendation to Harlem is clear: either stop accepting bookings if you are unable to honour them, or—at the very least—implement a proper system where tables are allocated within specific timeframes, as any reputable restaurant in the city does. And a simple gesture like a smile and a warm greeting wouldn’t hurt either, especially considering that your customers are the ones funding your business. In short, my experience at Harlem was disastrous, and I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone. Customer service is key in this industry, and Harlem’s blatant disregard for its customers is unforgivable.

Honestly the worst experience I've had in a restaurant in Belfast. They have no system of checking who has a booking or not. Stood outside for fifteen minutes waiting to get in and had to eventually push through to let them know we had a booking. When we were eventually sat down and had ordered they then made us move to another table. Sat for over 40 minutes with no food or service for more drinks. Had to flag down a staff member and then it took another 15 minutes to get out food. The food was bland and not worth the wait at all. Would not recommend!

We came as a family of five without a reservation, willing to wait and fully understanding that people with reservations would be prioritized. However, even after 40 minutes of waiting, several groups who arrived after us were seated first. The owner apologized 3 times but still nothing changed. When a family of five who arrived much later was about to be seated at the table we’d been waiting for, I approached the waiter to remind her that we were next. She told me they had a reservation and refused to give us the table—even though we had been waiting longer. Only when that family graciously intervened and insisted we were first and they didn’t have a booking, did the waiter give us the table. Later, when I ordered tap water, the waiter misheard it as "butter," which was understandable. But when I clarified, she started correcting my accent in a way that felt dismissive and unnecessary. While the interior is nice, the service left us feeling as if we weren’t valued. Sadly, we couldn’t shake the feeling that the treatment we received may have been influenced by our foreign background. This experience left us very disappointed and they still charged us an extra 10% service fee because we were more than 3 people.

Best brunch in Belfast! Staff great, not just large portions but great tasting food. Love the interior decor too. Nice to have somewhere that isn't your usual stripped back Scandi look.

The Croque Madame was delicious. Liked the atmosphere in here a lot as well. We were hoping to get back and try their lunch menu as well, but ran out of time before we were able to come back.

We waited about 1.5 hours, but it was totally worth it! We ordered the Vegan Breakfast with added poached eggs, and everything was absolutely delicious. The place has a gorgeous vibe, and the service was amazing. Thank you to the entire team!

Found this little diamond of a place on our first morning of a three day stay. So good we came back every single day for breakfast because it is simply fantastic. Friendly, unobtrusive but efficient service from the lads and lasses who work there and some lovely food (portions are huge so make sure you're hungry!!!). They only do evening meals at weekends so can't comment on anything but their breakfast menu. I wish you were near where I live because you'd get sick of seeing me, lol.

Dog friendly. Harlem is a beautiful spot in Belfast. We stopped in for brunch on a weekend and were pleasantly surprised. All the staff were lovely and couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome and we'll looked after.

Beautiful, quirky interior. Staff were very pleasant. The opening hours seemed to be a bit inconsistent (potential customers were being told that it's closed in the evening contradictory to their listed opening hours). Their food was OK. Great vibes.

Fantastic little brunch spot, this was my third visit to Harlem over the years and it didn’t disappoint😄 great atmosphere, the staff are brilliant and the food is delicious. It gets very busy so I would always advise to book! Gorgeous vibe and the decor is quirky and unique! The owner (sorry I didn’t catch her name) is lovely, really in touch with her customers and comes round to check how everything is! Will definitely be returning on my next trip to Belfast💚

Waited 40 minutes for a table. Got seated in front of entrance right beside the please wait here sign. Was not the most comfortable dining experience. Food didn’t come as ordered. Was offered no condiments for my meal. Made to feel like second rate customer.

A cafe in the center of Belfast. The inside of the store is very stylish. Ordered an Irish breakfast. The portions are plentiful, the sausages are crispy, and the unique Irish soda bread is also very delicious. There was so much tea that I couldn't drink it all.

Everything was so good! Had never though of a bacon and Brie omelette before but the combo is amazing. The croque madam is so tasty. Coffee wasn’t my favorite but definitely wasn’t bad. Overall I would definitely come again.

Went for a pre show meal before the comedy night, was great. Couldn't fault it, especially the range of craft beers available :)
