Went in for lunch- menu was very limited due to them closing over the 12th week. Got food which was lovely and a latte, finished my coffee and went back to order another but was told 'No sorry, I can't make one as the station was been cleaned as they were packing up now...' the station was not being cleaned at that time but just felt like they couldn't be asked and that I was one of those annoying customers who had overstayed their welcome. Not a bad place but disappointing on the day in question 7th July 2023.

Friday lunch treat in the City of Belfast means getting out and about to new cafes and restaurants that you haven't tried before. Near the City centre and the Victoria Square Shopping Centre is Cafe Carberry where me and a friend decided to get a good quality lunch for Friday. We both went for chicken wraps toasted with all the trimmings and a side of chips and tea and mocha to drink. The food was of good quality and the wraps were bountiful in size, the service was pretty quick and there is nothing better than a good hot drink on a cold windy day in February. Otherall its a nice little place and the location is good as it sits almost inbetween the City Centre and Lanyon Central Station which makes ideally located in the areas of St Georges Market and the Victoria Square Shopping Centre, so its almost impossible to miss if you travel by train to the city centre.

My partner and I meet most Mondays & Fridays for lunch, I would like to think that we have visited most the majority of the cafes in the city centre at some point. Just over a month ago we happened to stumble Upon this little gem, we've been back about 14 times since. In my opinion its in my top 5 place in Belfast to get an amazing cappuccino and hearty hot or cold lunch. So Why I hear you ask.... well where do I start? Ok so... THE COFFEE, H ere you don't get half a cup of frothy milk and hardly any coffee like Starbucks or Nero, @ Cafe Carberry Its a cup of smooth creamy perfection and never over heated to the point where you feel the need to spit it back into the cup because its burnt the of your throat. NEXT THE FOOD, everyday there are two soups or Hot special's to choose from that have been freshly made, numerous salads and other mouth watering items which iv'e not tried but have seen been dropped off at other tables. ( which I intend to try lol ) THE SERVICE, its speedy and pleasant the staff are always chirpy, polite and have a welcoming smile on there face they all actually seem to enjoy there job. THE ATOMASPHERE, There is always food music playing in the busy background while the café itself has been decorated in a tasteful and up to date manner. Will definitely be returning to this little gem of a coffee house. If you haven't been GO you're missing out.

First visit back today to an establishment I haven't visited in over a year. Really looked forward to rekindling memories of a great breakfast, cheerful staff, mellow tunes to start the day and a warm atmosphere to make it all worthwhile. So, what happened? What went well? Plenty of space in which to sit, with those fantastic big leather sofas situated near the doors, though in times past I have struggled to get a seat after 7am, and so I wonder what's happened to the past, regular clientele? Reasonable selection of soft drinks, juices, and of course there is plenty of space in a wide aisle in which to enter and exit the cafe. Also, one lady serving today actually looked like she was enjoying her day. Customers do tend to like seeing happy workers; it encourages our repeat patronage! Even better if? Crikey, where to start!... Decor is dark and gloomy; don't go by the web pics on T.A. It's like an existentialist attempt at persistent low mood in an eaterie, and really dampens the energy of the place. It's frankly dull. Bad service is another new concern at this cafe. Polish lady cleaning up spilled milk from the floor upon my arrival. Her red-haired companion, looking miserable as can be, after hearing my own "good morning, how are you?" greeting and then roundly ignoring me, states to Polish counterpart.."there's a customer." Polish lady advises she is mopping up and will be just a moment. Ginger haired misery repeats "there's a customer", before retreating to kitchen preparation area and peering round the door at me to continue her glower. Does she ingest lemons as a hobby? Next comes the huffing, puffing Polish lady smiling nervously and asking what I'd like. I order porridge and a large cooked breakfast for my colleague. I want my porridge made with milk. I also note the Polish lady's accent and state how nice it is to hear another exotic accent. Again I'm ignored and her gaze is averted. Shyness? I was paying a compliment...learn to accept these dear! Humans tend to notice differences and uniqueness. Is this some weird sort of staff training in the highest standards of ignorance that Cafe Carberry now has going for its people? The place was dead FGS; the least your people can do is raise a flipping smile and at least pretend they'd like us to stay and spend more cash. Food shows up to my lovely, comfy leather sofa, all served by the one remaining smiling, charming young lady who actually looks like she gives a damn. The porridge is made with water, and I suspect, microwaved. Not happy about that. I have to start work in 15 minutes. Large breakfast is something fit for a titmouse; it was, in fact, a mini breakfast. 2 messed up orders and 2 very unhappy professionals, one visiting, one resident, who then went straight to our office and told everyone how rubbish the place had become. In summary, lousy/no welcome to the joint, atrocious customer service skills, (especially the flame haired female with a face like a dropped meat pie); shockingly bad staff attitudes towards the Polish(?) colleague, unresponsive/uncooperative Polish (?) colleague (is she actually a robot?); god-awful porridge, non existent listening and confirmatory skills; no checks made to determine if we actually enjoyed the food/place/atmosphere; no exit thanks or wishes. Won't ever be back, which is a shame as it was always my breakfast port of call whenever I was in town on business.

I approached with trepidation when I realised there was only 1 customer toilet for everyone including both sexes, disabled and baby changing. The place was grotty with the water in the toilet bowl filled right up to the brim, a wet floor, and large volumes of urine lying around the edge of the toilet and oozing from under the seat. I sincerely hope that there is a different, cleaner toilet for staff use. If I return, I will visit the toilet before I order food and if it is still unclean I won't be ordering or returning. There is no need for this mess.

The cafe is busy and well positioned as it is right in the middle if Belfast's legal quarter and therefore frequented by lawyers, staff etc. This is why it has a steady stream of customers on a daily basis. It is, however, nothing special at all. Belfast city centre has a wealth of cafes and eateries to choose from, many of which are far superior in terms of food, service and price! Which is why I am highly surprised at the rather over-enthusiastic reviews. Service in Cafe Carberry is basic and prices are on the expensive side. Average at best.

Just had a coffee here as I was going for an early dinner, the coffee was grand and the food looks nice. The staff are very friendly and there were at least 4 on duty whilst we were in. It was not overly busy just one or two other tables occupied whilst we were in. All was fine until I used the toilet, the toilet floor was extremely dirty and my feet were sticking to it, but the toilet itself was okay but not clean looking either. Due to the amount of staff on duty I don't think it would have been to hard for one of them to have taken a mop and bucket and cleaned the floor. I always judge the standard off a restaurant by how clean they keep there toilets and this turned my stomach! This place needs a regular toilet check done, no excuse in this day and age for dirty toilets.

Have been here a few times for lunch, their menu is really varied and the staff are lovely. It is a little bit pricey for lunch but the portions are big and you will be filled for the rest of the day!
