Soda and Starch in Derry

A set menu on a Saturday night for twenty five quid? Winner winner (steak) dinner. The place is lovely, the staff are excellent, the food was delish and nice and affordable. With a table of fourteen we weren't waiting long at all, and the wee courtyard it's in is well worth a visit by itself. I'd happily recommend.

Such amazing food - the fish and charcoal grilled chicken was out of the world. Wonderful cocktails too! And lovely service and hospitality.

Way overpriced for what you get. If you order a whole fish, you end up with this tiny piece of fish for £26. It’s a joke. I couldn’t believe how small the fish was. It tasted great but a complete waste of money.

Stumbled upon S+S and popped in for an early dinner. Lovely setting in the craft village. The chowder to start was superb and we equally enjoyed the burger / flat iron steak - great value with the early bird deal. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

25 degree heat, sitting drinking a crisp cold Moretti in the gorgeous outdoor seating area and eating some of the nicest BBQ grilled food I've had in a while. Nothin better.

Ate here twice in last few weeks. Nice pleasant restaurant. ‘Sunday lunch’ was best I’ve had in town. Service very good. Will go back

Great dining experience. Friendly service and the food was delicious . The wine especially Furmint Pajzos Tokaj was excellent. 5 star all over.

Wasn't happy with soda & starch. We get a table no problem without a booking. The menus were not taken off of our table the entire time we were there. No one came to take our order, we had to talk over a desk. A long wait for food, and when it did come we were disappointed the seafood chowder was extremely acidic like vinegar which ruined the dish. Which was a shame as the seafood was plentiful and delicious. The staff were unattentive, they did not clear our table even though we had ordered dessert. They did remove the chowder from the bill but we were still disappointed with the staff.

Delicious meal this evening. My other half raved over his soup starter, followed by the burger. My tomato risotto was very tasty and we both indulged in the winter pudding with brandy sauce. Our first meal in the city did not disappoint.

Simply superb Goats Cheese (tart?), great wines to go with it too. Well done. Nice and friendly staff, despite a surprise large group arrival, well done.

Had a lovely lunch here today with my Mum. The set up outside is beautiful and in a great location within the town centre. Out door seating was good,not cramped very spacious. Service was great,staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely beautiful,I could not fault it. Pity I never got a picture of my food but I made sure to get a photo of my tasty Aperol Spritz,first time having one and it did not disappoint! I look forward to returning.

Beautiful location nestled in the craft village. We sat outside as it was a nice evening. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food was 1st class could not fault it portion sizes are perfect as the food is rich and seasoned well. Definitely worth a visit

Lovely surroundings in the outside feature on a balmy evening. Really good food, succulent steak and veg bake in particular. A bit pricey for our usual eating out budget so can't imagine when we could next partake of your delightful place... 😊

Limited menu, very expensive, lovely outside seating area, chicken wings on the specials is good value, lovely place to go for a drink, staff uniform is untidy but no reflection on the great service

Wonderful food, wonderful service, liked the music choice playing in the background. Only downside was my father talking about politics and football but I guess that was on us lol. Don't understand how some reviews are complaining about portion size, perfectly portioned and had me full for a day! 10/10.

Food was really lovely although would a appreciate a more defined lunch and evening menu rather than paying nearly 20 quid for a lunch which is a bit luxuriant. That said the fishcake starter (had as main with chips) and orange and almond cake for dessert was great. Staff were all really friendly and attentive and the space in the courtyard is really lovely. Unfortunately when we visited they were playing music you'd expect at a nightclub at 2 in the morning at really high volume whilst we ate lunch at 2.30 in the afternoon- sort the music for a better ambience. Good experience overall!

Good outdoor location. Nice food. Service was disorganised. Brought down the wrong drink but replaced it with no fuss. They brought out one half of my partner's order on its own. About 10 minutes later I got my food. About 5 minutes later my partner's side dish arrived, after she had finished her other dish. Different staff coming to our table each time. No one knew what was going on. Should be a basic thing to bring out both people's food at the same time. It wasn't even that busy.

Soda & Starch is located in the craft Village just off Shipquay Street in Derry the outside seating is very relaxed with a covered roof for outside dinning the menu is of high quality food and everything is made fresh to order the staff are very friendly and approachable at present it is advisable to book your table due to the current restrictions..well worth a visit

Visited Soda & Starch last night for the first time. Excellent food and service. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and not rushed. Nice bit of time between courses. Great food and great staff. Will definitely be back for sure.

Our first trip to Derry and thankfully we were recommended to visit this lovely restaurant. Loved the food, the staff and the service despite all the covid restrictions. I had the bbq monkfish and green salad. Absolutely loved it - probably the best fish dish I've had in an irish restaurant.

Had dinner there tonight with the family. The service was great and the food was delicious. We ordered a shared starter for the table. I ordered the burger. It was one of the best burgers I enjoyed in a long time. My wife ordered the Lemon Salmon and was equally delicious. The kids burgers were big and quality beef. Definitely worth a visit.

A coworker and I walked here for dinner from the City Hotel. It isn't far and we walked along part of the wall and through the diamond on the way. We were seated quickly without a reservation and our drink orders taken. My coworker had the turkey and ham while I had the burger and chips. Both were quite nice. For dessert I had the Derry mess and he had the apple, rhubarb crumble with cream. It was a pleasant meal. The have a covered outdoor seating area but that wasn't used the chilly evening we visited.

Good quality food. Location is quite cosy making it magical during Christmas period. Portions a bit smaller than expected, but overall good experience.

Great spot at the craft Village in the center of the city, we came here for a works BBQ burgers ribs chips and side salads layed on for us witch was fantastic Friendly staff looked after us, nice heated seating outside with over head canopy. Will definitely call again

The outdoor service is atrocious too. Servers disappear when needed, seems to be no allocation of servers to sections. No eye contact. Portions are too small, over priced. The wee restaurant before was much better. Won't be back. 10'er for that.

Excellent all around. Loved this accidental find, from the food to the outdoor seating and ambiance at lunch which included a gorgeous local band for the few hours. The food was incredibly balanced and tasty. Everything is totally organic, beautifully presented and locally sourced. As a former L.A. (USA) food critic...Highly Recommend.

For a rest between one visit and another, it is worth it. You feel pampered.

We came across this restaurant by chance which offers a covered terrace (sometimes useful in Ireland). What a pleasant surprise on our plates, especially if you opt for the side salad rather than the chips. Lots of flavors and originality with optimal value for money! You will not be disappointed.

My 80 year old sister in law, and brother in law had a meal last week,, the waitress asked if they would like some water,,, they said they would,, she also askd if they would like a wee side order of chips,,, although having enough potatoes on their plates,, they thought it only polite to say yes,, thinking they were being offered complimentary!!,, they didn't eat all the chips,,, when they went to pay the bill,, it came to £50.00,,,they were horrified,, as week before they only paid around £35.00,,for two courses and a few drinks,,, when they checked the bill, they were charged for a bottle of sparkling water,, not tap water as they thought,, and charged for extra portion of chips that they didn't really want,,, they felt very disappointed, and a bit vulnerable,, please treat our pensioners with respect, and explain when asking, if they want tap water (free) or fizzy£2.50 same with extra sides, make sure you give them a price when asking if they would like extras,, our pensioners don't have a lot of money,, let's not overcharge or exploit them please.

Service is terrible here. Menu limited. Overpriced. Portions are a joke. Robbery.

Was a very nice restaurant when it first opened but sadly no longer. Average food, poor value and atrocious service. Staff is complacent and does not take complaints at all seriously. The management has a lot to learn about customer service. Such a shame that the restaurant fails to capitalise on its ideal location.

Deeeelicious food and cosy atmosphere at Soda and Starch. My salmon was amazing, fresh, perfectly cooked. Ticked it off as one of my fave restaurants. Sited in the craft village, it is off a courtyard so you can also eat outside in a lovely area which is off the busy main road.

Very poor service, slow, no one sure what table had ordered what on what table. Staff not helpful

A dissapointment that the service was so slow that it detracted from the good food. The staff did not know where they were serving the food and did not seem to use the table numbers resulting in a 40 minute wait from the point of ordering food to the point in receiving. All this when it was not busy was very frustrating.

Catch of the day & chips was quite good, and the portions were larger than expected.

Very good good price. WE DO NOT SERVE TYPICAL DISHES.

Service was great staff very friendly last Saturday and I did speak to staff however I was very disappointed with the portion of venison only 3 tiny pieces. I had been looking foward to this after babysitting.Asked waitress for fresh cream and not ice cream to go with dessert.Ice cream arrived! When I tried the gin it tasted very funny so when I had looked at the bottle of tonic it was soda water! Suppose you can't get it right all the time.😏

We ate tonight in this amazing, quaint, relaxed & popular restaurant. It has indoor & outdoor seating, hidden away in the delicacy of the Craft Village. We had both starter & main course, fish & mushroom were the two choices of starter, followed by a burger & fish main course. Sumptuous to say the least, not to mention the staff. They were above and beyond, friendly, down to earth and above all wanted our experience of their restaurant to be outstanding. What can i say? RESULT! We will be back for sure. Campbell 19/10/18 ♡
