The best restaurants serving Indian food in East of England

We have been going to Montaz since it opened with family, friends, for great occasions and just for fun. It has always been our favourite Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant in the Cambridge area. We also think that it is one of the best in England and this is not just my opinion but that of many friends from London who compare it to the best that the capital city offers. We had not eaten at Montaz for a while (we had done take away) and it was great to be there, to discuss the dishes, plan a great meal and enjoy the atmosphere. This was a new menu and so we went to town experimenting with these new dishes. We started with a special Lamb's Liver Somosas. Don't be put off, they were brilliant and fragrant with tamarind sauce and chutney. The Chicory Chat was delicious and refreshing. The main courses were suberb. The Tandoori Guinea Fowl was tender, crisp outside and full of great tandoor flavours. The Talapia Fish with Green Beans was in a rich unctuous sauce and melted in your mouth. Duck Chilli Korai was just one of the best Korai dishes that I have ever had with tender duck morsels with a great depth of flavours. The Paneer Makhani had such a great buttery, tomato sauce. I adore mushroms but the Mushroom Hara Pyaz was out of this world with the mushrooms, peppers and onions making a perfect mushroom dish. Yes, a great meal.

This is without a doubt the best Indian in the area by far! Having moved to Hitchin from London where there are many great Indian restaurants/takeaways, we were so happy to find one that exceeds them all. Every dish we order is fantastic. The Saag Aloo is one of the best ever, as is the King Prawn Puri. The Chicken Khjana is out of this world as is the Mango Delight. Please try it for yourself you will definitely not be disappointed. The food was delicious, served on hot plates. The staff were attentive and polite. The restaurant is beautifully clean. A very pleasing touch was that the table was cleaned between courses! Would highly recommend.

Food is good. However there are too many covers for the staff to cope with, so you can be waiting almost an hour just to have your order taken, then another hour for food to arrive. End of meal takeaways had to be prepared by our own party and clearing away by the staff resulted in excess food being tipped back on our table, not by accident. The restaurant would benefit from having less tables, so that people aren’t crammed in like sardines, and so that food arrives in a timely way. The fire escape even has seating in front of it. It is a shame, as the food is pretty good. They need more staff, with more experience. They need to focus on a quality customer experience, instead of the maximum number of covers. Please, please also stop insisting on shaking everyone’s hand in the restaurant, multiple times. You are shaking hands with over 40 people, which poses a considerable health and hygiene risk to customers. Sadly we won’t be back.

Great place staff and food all good

Food was very delicious and services was 10 out of 10. They recently won Award best restaurant in Hertfordshire.They deserve it. Highly recommended

Just had a meal here for my partners birthday it was the first time sitting in as we normally takeaway and it was absolutely beautiful, cooked really well, good portions & really friendly staff, would highly recommend & would definitely go back!! Thank you :)

I had never tried Chandini before but friends had recommended it & I can see why. The food was full of flavour and had that freshly prepared feeling. I would have given them 5 stars if there had been more king prawns in the biriyani - I think I only counted 4. However, everything was enjoyable and certainly a cut above the other takeways in Sawbridgeworth.

Saturday night is obviously popular here. We met up to celebrate my mum's birthday, as they had been here previously with friends and enjoyed it very much. We were not disappointed! The food was great, juicy and full of spices. The waiters were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. It was a great night.

Thoroughly enjoyed the takeaway I ordered on Friday 14th March. All dishes were top quality and the staff were very friendly when I picked the food up. Order was produced bang on time. Will definitely return.
