Basil Spice Indian Restaurant in Basildon

I have been to many Indian restaurants, but this byfar was the best. In fact traveling back from my home this Friday, (Manchester) to Basildon & will definitely being going to this restaurant on Saturday. Adam & his team are first class. The food is beautiful 😍

7 of us came tonight to celebrate my wife's Birthday, great night, thanks to all, we will be back.

I have eaten in this Indian and it is amazing. We have just ordered takeaway. So we have spend just over £50 for 2 of us. Taken a hour and 15 mins to deliver. I do understand it’s a Saturday night and it’s busy. Trying to order our food was hard as there was so much break ground noise on their end. I got prawns puri for starter, was warm, the prawn was also over cooked and very rubbery. The taste was lovely and there was plenty of prawns so that was nice to see. My meal I wasn’t happy, my nan bread was really cold and not a lot of taste and my meal was cold. My curry came out of the pot still in the same shape as the pot where it was that cold. I can’t eat cold food, so I’ve had to microwave it. As I’m not waiting over a hour again for more food. I ordered onion salad and mint sauce which we paid for, didn’t receive no onion salad, he had chicken tikka starter which usually comes with yoghurt, no yoghurt (not sure if theirs does come with yoghurt) his food was also luke warm but he can eat it like that: he did really enjoy his food. There was plenty of meat in all our dishes which is nice to see and it did have alot of taste. Just gutted we had stuff missing and our food was cold. My curry was just a jelly blob and put me straight off it. Don’t think I will go for takeaway here anymore and other just go into the restaurant but I’m sure he will want to try it once more. Haven’t bothered calling the restaurant up to complain as ordering was hard enough

I have no words to describe the food. It was the most terrible indian food that I tried in my life and I tried from many restaurants and even homemade indian food. Really disappointed, it hurt my feelings and gut. I didn’t believed it can ever be that bad to make me cry. I’ll never come again.

The food was excellent, one of the best Indian meals we have had. The service was also excellent, very attentive and quick. It is a very clean restaurant, spacious and relaxing. We also found the background music very pleasant. Highly recommended. The staff are brilliant, we have been back many times now and the service is always excellent.

This restaurant is an absolute gem! My sister has been a regular for many years and always raves about it. We finally got to try it for ourselves when we visited her recently. We were warmly welcomed by all of the staff. Adam went out of his way to accommodate everyone’s tastes suggesting various dishes which were all delicious we all really enjoyed each dish. Will definitely return and hopefully enjoy one of the themed evenings which I hear are excellent. 5 stars from us!!

I visit the restaurant quite regularly, the food is always well cooked the menu is varied and lots of choice. The portion size more than adequate. The staff are polite and helpful. The restaurant is clean and tidy . The occasional theme night Is well staffed and food good quality. Give it a go

Food was ok but not special the naan was no better than the ones you get from Tesco. Certainly better options in Laindon.

Food was nice and was topped up as needed. However, the drinks were a big let down as the coke/ beer was flat.

Not a welcoming place at all. I have tried to book but they have said that they are fully booked, but within 5 minutes my wife had called and they have said that they are fairly quiet.

Had an absolutely amazing time celebrating sons 21st. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. On the night we went there was Bollywood dancers and diners were allowed to get up join them in a number of dance based activities. We finished of the night with a boogie that was brilliant. Would thoroughly recommend this for all occasions.

Nice ambience. Parking spaces available. We tried chicken tikka biryani, Chicken tikka naan - it was nice 🙂. Nuggets and fries - fries are thin and crispy but nuggets are only a few and don't taste good. Mango lussy was superb 😊😊. lemonade tasted like sprite with some ice cubes 🤮. Mojito was utter flop🙃🙃🙃🙃.

A great place, lovely staff, reasonably priced and delicious food. Made a lovely meal out with the family.

It was a fantastic night fabulous food and plenty of it everyone had a fantastic time they all loved the food as usual recommend this to everyone it was a birthday do for three, table decorations and balloons where lovely, all the kids enjoyed there food adam thankyou for a fantastic evening 😀

Didn't use restaurant, used takeaway service. Food nice. Was disappointed that I ordered and paid for pilau rice got plain white rice. Order and paid for 2 yogurt mint sauce only got 1. 2 out of 5 of the poppadoms were soft and greasy. I am not a person who would drive all the way back to complain about wrong order as most people wouldn't. Staff seemed friendly for the 3 mins I was in there x

Booked here for my Dad’s 70th Birthday and was very pleased pleasantly surprised. Adam was a great host right from the start, decorating our table with balloons and checking in on us throughout the evening, as well as all of the other tables. The food was great and the music/DJ after was an added bonus. My Dad had a great evening. Will definitely be back soon!

Had a takeaway from here. Food ok'ish nothing great. The curry's are to thick its more like a paste.

nams and korma and lamb was especially good and lovely and yet the chicken biryani was very spicy and we will be returning this week

We have been have a few times now and there is a reason we keep coming back to eat in. Brilliant food, surprisingly good cocktails (Ask for a Jordan special!) and lovely staff. Thanks to Shish for looking after us as always 😁

Just gross!! Tasteless slopp, staff at the bar are rude & heard them slagging off a young woman that was dressed up, gave dirty looks when I asked for a drink, if you don’t like your job or ppl then leave

Basil spice is my favourite restaurant to eat from and although I usually order take away for convenience it is so much better to eat in their beautiful restaurant with their lovely friendly staff. A massive thank you to Adam, his wife and all their amazing staff and cooks for hosting a simply outstanding evening for 140 people the other night as a thank you to us. When in truth it is us who should be saying thank you for the many years of delicious food but also the things you guys do as you go above and beyond for us all at different times. During Covid you not only gave me helium for my daughters balloons but added many more free to make it even more special! You provided free food for the hospital staff and have done so when an accident stopped many people leaving the road outside your restaurant for a long period and you couldn’t leave them hungry. My favourite dishes are the masala chips which are so delicious I eat way too many, the tikka wrap which has a secret sauce and is bursting with flavour in a delicious Naan, and the chicken tikka masala with its creamy taste and succulent chicken. I have always ordered from here as their food is a cut above the rest and service which can’t be matched. Thank you again Adam and to your family and staff for always providing the best Indian meal always maintaining quality food. Also many thanks for the gratitude and thanks you give back to customers like myself by hosting a free thank you meal like you did Thursday! It was the perfect evening and the Elvis entertainment was brilliant. We had the best time thank you so much! I look forward to many more meals I will enjoy from Basil Spice!

What a lovely friendly restaurant. The food is amazing. The decor and ambiance is fantastic and Adam and all of his staff treat you as though you are members of their own family. Once you've been you will return again and again and again

Had my partners 50th last year(2022) & again for his 51st this year. Food was excellent, service was brilliant. Would highly recommended xx 2024........brilliant night again here. Adam and team are so humble and generous. Been eating in and getting takeaways here since 2020......Love this place xx

Have been to this restaurant many times. The food is amazing as well as the service. Staff and owners always remember you by name, not many places give you that kind of service. The owner Adam and his family do lots for the community. They often drop food off at the hospital and did this through lockdown. If you have a special occasion, his wife does lovely balloons. I would definitely recommend that if you have never been, you must give it a try and you will then be hooked like I am.

The food here is always spot on, if a dish doesn’t suit for some reason they are always happy to tweak it to your liking, many of the dishes are inspired by the owners family recipes, their tandoori chef is fab. The staff are a great bunch, always so helpful and friendly but the best part about this place is the owners. Adam and his wife are such fantastic people who do so much for others , both in the community and further afield. We first decided to try the restaurant because we’d seen some lovely things they had done for people during lockdown and felt we wanted to support a local business like that, the bonus for us was we found a restaurant that has now become a firm favourite and got to know some genuinely good people, In this day and age that’s a rare find.

I ordered and collected different kinds of Naan recently ( Plain Naan, Peshawri naan, Garlic Naan, Tandori Roti) from this place. I have to say it was complete waste of money. They definitly need to change their Naan Bai (Naan person). Unequal spread, tasteless, when slightly get cold, you can tell the difference it may not be fresh. It might sound ok to those who do not know much about Asian foods, but my expereince is extremely poor. I can not tell about other foods as I did not order but yes I will not recommend any bread or Naan from this resturant.

Eaten here many times - never disappointed with quality and freshness of food. Service is good and friendly. Not rushed away and allowed to take our time. Very good value - so good we use the delivery service also would highly recommend.

Ordered 2 currys, they were like tap water with a bit of seasoning, rice was water and tasteless also, food was inedible, won't order again, the WORST curry I have ever had

Had my 40th and my nephews 21st there on 16th December and was such a wonderful night food was lively cocktails amazing all staff friendly and welcoming can't wait to go there again even made sure everyone could get home amazing service

Visiting family from Bristol (and desperate to order a good quality takeaway after the last one I ordered was pretty dire). I selected this Indian as the reviews were good. I was not disappointed but rather thoroughly impressed beyond expectations! Excellent quality food and top notch customer service and delivery. Couldn't have asked for more. Thanks for a wonderful meal.

Had a takeaway and was lovely mushroom rice and dhanzak was gorgeous

Chicken korma was full of water and had tip water into sink off my plate 🤢. Not impressed

We had 13 family eat and dance the night away. Omg the food was some of the best Curry I have tasted and at a good price. The personal attention and friendly service was perfect plus and the music was great. Myself and my wife are visiting from Australia and our night at Basil Spice has made another great memory. Arrived early but were seated immediately with the manager Adam having his private table made ready for us. Follow the guidance on the menu and if it says a dish is "spicy" , it will be.

It was our 26th anniversary and thought have a takeaway....no better place to go to.....have used so many times....never have we been disappointed.....food was absolutely amazing as always....thank you

First time visiting basil spice and what can I say the owner is amazing a real gentleman with amazing hospitality skills. We was well looked after from the moment we walked in. Food was amazing and we tried some new dishes which were well delivered by the staff we was served by both Michelle’s they have great customer service skills. This may be our new regular

Staff were very friendly and helpful and booking for 15 people for a late night dinner was made super easy. We had pre ordered our food and once the party had all arrived they started to bring out the food in a timely manner. They were very organised and the food was amazing. A very easy and enjoyable experience.

Food and service was very poor it seems to have gone down hill and thay don’t do the deal no more so no cheaper than eny other local Indian

I attended here for dinner with my daughter 09/06/23, it’s my second time dining in and it did not fail to please. The staff there always go above and beyond to smell you feel welcome and at home. The food is second to none, with the most amazing cocktails you’ve ever tasted. This is without a doubt the best Indian around, and I have certainly traveled for them. If I was to give a suggestion, it would be to put spice levels next to a curry, I think I found my limit last night lol, but thank you for the yogurt (nice touch as always). Looking forward to attending some events there soon. Stay happy guys and girls, we’ll meet again… Lisa

I have called to book a table for their Thursday 2 for 1 offer. They have told me that they don't do that offer but 5 minutes later my wife had called them to ask for the same offer they have said that no problem at all and booked a table... They should not be pick and choose..

My son ate there on Saturday evening (13th May) and was very unwell following his visit. I complained and the manager looked into my complaint quickly. Apparently there was a sickness bug in the area

We have sat down and eaten in the past very nice haven't used for a while had a takeaway last night I found bland no flavours wife was up most of the night stomach cramps following a hole day in work as an hair dresser on the toilet not nice. like these rest of the Indian restaurants in Basildon we won't be using again I'd rather get in the car and go wickford ( Marco Polo @ pink garlic ) worth the inconvenience thx

Got recommended by a family member but really awful taste and quality of food. I think the food does not come near to Indian taste. I think the chef needs to under go some training for Indian cooking. People are paying money for real Indian food not for fake dishes.

The food is excellent here and you always get a warm welcome from Adam and his team. My wife is a vegetarian and likes that they always use fresh ingredients in the meals. Top venue.

Service was not good this time around, waiting a long time to get ordered drinks to our table at one stage had to collect drinks ourselves. Food was OK but didn't blow our minds

I recently just moved into the area and can honestly say me and all my family all said this food is by far the best best Indian we have ever had! Tried Basil Spice for the first time tonight, AMAZINGLY tasty food!!!! I can’t wait to go back again…also the restaurant is beautiful and the customer service was spectacular.

All I’m saying OMGGGG. This place is hidden gem. Very chilled out with absolutely delicious food. Staff so sweet and friendly humble. Very very spacious clean restaurant. Massive bar with variety of delicious cocktails. Manger was so humble. Kids friendly. They gave toys to our kids.

Huge thanks to everyone at basil for the service and food today , we always stick with them for any birthday party as they know how to provide the service . The food never disappoints either . My new favourite from them is the tandoori chicken jalfryzi.

Absolutely love this restaurant! All the staff can’t do enough for you and always cook our meals perfectly! The waitress Claire and waiter Jordan are always polite and pop over for a quick chat in between working. Lovely interior, Great Atmosphere, Fantastic food, Good prices. Wouldn’t go anywhere else for an Indian.

Working in the area from Manchester, this curry house is great, quick and attentive service from friendly staff, great tasting food and good value for money.

Although not particularly local Basil Spice was came to mind when thinking about an Indian, however the last two visits have disappointed. Chicken in the Jalfrezi and Shashlik was dry and hard, no check back on the food so we could raise the issue easily, just an apology for the food when we received the bill. Basil Spice, you can and should do better than this!

Had a great night here with friends on New Year’s Eve, the food was really tasty and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. It was a great atmosphere, with good entertainment.

Good to see it open on the 25th for people who fancy something different.....however when I called to order a take they said they could not cook what I wanted? ....when I called back to reorder something else after some thought they did not seem to understand that i just wanted to order a take away?....more intrest seemed to be given to the party going on in the background ....shame as the owner i met 2 months ago was very accommadating .

Came to basil and spice for a work meal, I feel the food was really nice, good quality with lovely flavours. The hosts and staff did really well making sure the evening ran smoothly, and they also had enjoyable entertainment for the evening.

We have always used Basil Spice but the take-away we received this evening was terrible. Not only had the size of the dishes shrunk by a third, the food was extremely bland and luke warm - we had to reheat it all. This will be the last time we order from there.
